Avatar Contest: A contest between individuals' avatars--organized by a user and the winner is determine by polling users in the forum.
REMEMBER: The ideal forums to conduct avatar contests are either the Chatterbox or the Avatar Talk subforum (under the Gaia Community Discussion forum.
1. Create your contest thread. I recommend also making a title that indicates that you are looking for entries.
Remember to lay down a set of rules and give plenty of information. This includes entry fees (if any), prize information, etc.

2. When you get people who want to participate in the contest, right click on the avatar and save it to your computer. (You can't use the avatar URLs directly because if the user changes, the image in the contest would change) You'll need these for later.

3. When you have enough participants in the contest, edit your post. You can fix the title to say that you are making the poll and not accepting anymore entries.

4. Open another browser window and go to www.tinypic.com (used here), www.photobucket.com, or any other image hosting site and upload the file for the avatar.

You can copy the code out of the third block (since it already has the IMG code) so all you have to do is post it in the thread.

Paste all of the image codes for the entrants in the post.

5. Then you want to do is edit the first post again in order to add the poll and avatars.

To add the other names, look to the right and click on the "Add Option" button.

Repeat this until you add in all the names.

Also, change the title to show that the contest is running.

When you have the poll options and the avatars in place, hit the "Submit" button. When you check your post, it will now have a poll, as well as the avatars in the thread.
6. Keep an eye on the voting--when it's complete, you can close the contest and divy out the prizes. ^_^
