2016.
After several years of secret government animal testing, a team of scientists discovered a certain chemical compound that oddly affected the animals. They seemed to grow more human-like with each passing day, but the changes decreased and eventually faded away after the experimented animals where put into isolation from the humans.

After deciding the animals were safe, the leader of the government scientists, a one Dr. Markus Fuller, released the captives back to where they'd been found: a large forest encircling a small village.

Unfortunately, the test subjects weren't safe, and whenever one would get near a human, a camper or a hiker or whomever, the chemical would jump start, causing the animal to grow and transform.
They would turn human themselves...
Even though the villagers shunned them as freaks and outcasts, they all lived a fairly nice exsistance in their home forest.

2020.
The government has learned about the human-animal hybrids, and, after punishing Dr. Fuller for not testing them before release, have sent out specially-trained agents to retrieve and/or erase the mistakes.
Be prepared to defend yourself, human or not...

We'll start in the forest peacefully before we introduce the agents. Some (or all) of the animals will know each other from the start. How could they not when they all lived in the same place?

Rules

Play nice now, kids.
--No Godmoding, power-playing, etc. Annoying.
--No bashing, flaming, or the like of someone's character. In OOC format, anyway. It's fine if your character doesn't like another.
--Tell me if you're going to be gone for a while. Try not to leave someone hanging if you do leave.
--If you want to quit, don't just leave, tell me. If you're gone for more than ten days without an excuse, you'll be blacklisted and your character will be taken over (by me) then killed.
Help keep down the clutter.
--No stretching the page, or quoting anything off the first page.
--No posting characters. They will be deleted and you will not be able to join.
--No posting before being accepted. The posts will be deleted and you will not be able to join.
--Limit is two characters per player.
--Title the PM Don't fear... <-- It's there in white.
--Highlight the whole post to find the code word for the bottom of the PM.

--Follow it. Haven't read it? Then go do that!
--No cybering or make-out sessions in the middle of the thread. You will be black-listed.
--Violence is the same: PG-13 or lower. No spilling your or someone else's guts vivedly on the floor.

--I only reserve animals slots and they only stay reserved for a WEEK. Seven days, no more.

If your character is killed, you may create another, but they must be human. I will STOP allowing animals once the story really gets moving.

This is a long-term roleplay. If you can't handle that but you still would like to join, be the one that dies. Please! Or if you get tired later on, PM and say, "Please kill me." It's not a big deal.

o1. There will be no powers, only the ability to temporarily morph into your animal form.
o2. Only real animals, but get creative! There shouldn't be any close 'cousins' on the list, unless you really like them. Ex. Coyotes. I WILL ASK.
o3. There will only be TWO of each animal. No more. They do NOT have to be one of each gender.
o4. At least one person will have to die for the story to work; the rest will be captured later on. Tell me in your PM if you're going to be captured or killed. (I'll keep a list, so don't try to fool me later.)

Opening
We are now open!

The small fire crackled and popped within the makeshift fire pit.
As the sun sunk below the far-off mountain tops, a soft sigh drifted through the air. KC sat poking at the fire with a long stick, trying to get the fire to grow. As she sat quietly waiting for someone to come back to the camp, she stared at the sky, spotting the first star of the night. She shut her eyes and made a quick wish, the same wish she made every night: for them to turn back into animals, permenantly.
Just as she opened her eyes, a rustle came from the bushes off to her right. Donny emerged through the trees and she asked, "Why didn't you fly back?"
"Didn't feel like it today."
"You always 'feel like it'. What'd you see?"
"Hunters. Bird season just opened."
"Oh," KC said with a chuckle. "I guess there's some advantage to this human thing..."

Erebus let his eyes slide over the trees, night vision allowing him to see all that moved in the dark. He stood behind one of the thicker trunks, mostly hiding him from view. All the black that he wore helped too.

He suddenly moved with quick, accurate speed, springing down and snapping the neck of a rabbit that had been hiding in a brush. He hmm'd, looking at his work. His acute ears stayed tuned for any sounds as he walked back through the trees stealthily to a little camp he'd made for himself. He quickly prepared the meat for eating, downing the whole thing before curling up to sleep, dreams of being a lion flicking through his brain.

"Yeah, right, 'advanage'. You can't tell me you like these new bodies."
"Well, no, but-"
"No, don't try to rationalize it! Just say what it is: 'Those damn humans screwed us over, and now there's nothing we can do about it!' Yeah, that makes more sense. I'm so glad you said it!" Donny was now on his feet, yelling loudly. He didn't do this often, but it helped cool him down when he got overloaded.
"Hey, don't get snippy with me!" KC screamed back, standing over him angrily. "I'm not the one who changed us! Yelling at me isn't gonna help anything! And you know what? You're not the only one who was changed, either!" As if on que, her wolf ears twitched and flattened against her head.
Looking indignant rather pissed, Donny glared at her and turned on his heel, stomped back off through the forest.
Standing for another minute or so, KC sighed dejectedly and fell back onto the log that was serving as a bench near the fire. She knew he'd be ok, but she didn't like him going off on his own with his mental capabilities clouded by anger. He might get hurt, or worse. Still, KC did nothing but sat, waiting for him to come back.

Erebus suddenly jolted awake, golden eyes sliding over towards the direction from which he'd heard footsteps. He quickly was in a crouch, moving over to hide behind a tree, acute eyes searching the darkness for the source of the footsteps. He saw a figure approaching, at a slightly angry pace, it seemed. Erebus quirked an eyebrow just a bit, curious gaze following the figure. It increasingly got too close for comfort and Erebus switched to his preferred form, springing out and landing on all fours, retractable claws out, a snarl in his throat in warning.

Donny jumped back slightly out of surprise, but then straightened. He found he wasn't in the mood to be consorting with other animals.
"Oh, shut up. You don't know how luck you've got it, lion."
