This forest held many memories. Within its musky scented boundaries, Taigi roamed for the duration of his younger years. But now, all grown, his horn more prominent and full of purity and pride and his legs elongated, the stallion returned to the one place he was quite sure that he deserted when he set off on his 'quest'.
Why was he here once more, in this boring, overly-explored plot of land that he must've scouted all over at least twice? The answer was simple. A single, compelling force, somewhat like an unspoken promise drew him back.
Tai couldn't help the smile that pulled up the corners of his mouth as he pushed aside a wall of bramble with his horn and the hum of rushing water clogged his ears. It was serene, the peace almost overwhelming. His green eyes, dulled not by age, subconsciously searched the area. For what? An old friend, perhaps.
But it was empty. Nothing here but the vast array of wildlife and undisturbed calm. His ebony lids slid over his eyes, eyebrows perked in disappointment. The moment Taigi felt this dismay, a flush of that feeling reflected on himself. After all, he couldn't possibly expect her to be here once more, waiting. He left this forest, this life, and nearly all of its inhabitants behind. How selfish it was to think them patiently awaiting his return.
Black hooves tread the frozen ground, sheeted with a light snow, and brought him to the pond's mucky edge. And there he stood, tuning out every little sound one by one until he could hear only the waterfall, the ripples and crashes it emitted where it touched the lively mass.

The wind bit at her freshly washed hair as she stumbled out on the edge behind the large waterfall. It's spray was somewhat like ice piercing her sides as she made her way out into the open. Now fully grown her shortly cropped hair fell against her neck and and her somewhat larger bangs against her cheeks. She had taken on her mothers appearance when it came to her hair, the bandanna and the skulls on her backside. The Materials things probably to do with something in her subconscious wanting to be like her or perhaps another reason. For now she just liked the way it looked.
Her palish complexion was uniquely hers in her family and it made it somewhat harder to see her in this kind of weather. The snow made her blend into the background and when she was young, she used to use it to her advantage to sneak up on her younger brother and father frequently.
She had since forgotten why she came back to this place so much but simply said it was because she enjoy the serenity that came with the area. But she knew that wasn't why, there was another reason, she just couldn't get her mind to grasp it.
As she glimpsed at the pool of water that gathered at the bottom of the falls, anothers reflection was present. Her gaze came up suddenly to meet the owner which happened to be standing not far from where she was walking. She greeted him with a warm smile that reached her icy blue eyes. "Hello!"

Taigi was like a statue. He could neither feel the chills upon the wind or sounds outside the waterfall's. Like a sculpture placed within a fountain at a fancy home, quite really. His eyes stared blankly into the white haze at the liquid's collision spot, nonblinking. His ears were, naturally, clogged with the repetitive and never ending churning.
But there was a familiar sound that disturbed his stance a little. The sound was very slight and muffled, as if he was submerged in the minor lake rather than stationed in front of it. The noise was, after all, noise, though. His ears perked up without him thinking it, to further interpret the sound that was no longer there.
It was replaced by another now. Light thudding, clear to his "now-free-of-cotton" ears, grew closer. Footsteps. The implanting and removal of hooves to and from the ground. And then there was the intricate crunch of snow. Another horse was present.
And it wasn't just any horse, either. Taigi turned around, the motion stiff as if this were his first motion after centuries of standstill, to face calm eyes, fading blue in color. She was older, her black bangs now rested at both sides of her face and her mane was cropped almost to a foal's length, but she was her. Tai felt many emotions pass and leave his expression in a moment's time as he looked, nonresponsively, at his old friend.
"Nevara.."

Nevara's ears swirved forward and she lifted her head so that her bangs slide to the side of her face, giving her a better look a black and clouded stallion before her. This male seemed to know her, but how? Her eyes looked deeply into his as she tilted her head to side. Thinking. Remembering.
A scene flicked in her memory of her foulhood, of this stallion as a colt. With the same bright light green eyes. Taigi. He was so much bigger than he used to be with his wild monocrome colored hair. His horn and lion type tail had grown to suit his muscular structure. He was definitely handsome.
"Oh My.... Tai!" She closed the remaining distance between her and her long lost friend and and smiled happily, her pale eyes bright with excitement. "I didn't think i'd see you again.. " She put her muzzle softly against his neck and nuzzled him lightly before pulling away. "Vhat have you been up to since I last saw you?"

He exhaled the breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. She remembers. A soft smile stretched into a bright grin when she spoke, and he felt a blush, invisible to anyone else due to his dark complexion, creeping into his cheeks as she nuzzled him.
This was not what he bargained for upon his return. There were several options he'd considered and each would leave him with naught but heartache, but now, as he looked at his long-lost friend, he felt a sweet mixture of emotion filling in the cracks in his heart that he didn't know were there. A rush of ecstasy hit him to see her well and happy, happy to accept him as a friend after all this time.
"Oh, you know, I've been around." He flashed her another grin before beginning an in-depth description of his wanderings, "I've traveled since I'd grown older to give my father impression enough upon my responsibility. And it's wonderful, Nevvy, the world is amazing out there.."
For a moment, his expression became distant, as he went back to the world where he was running free, unconfined by bunches of bramble and invisible boundaries from the outer rims of a forest.

She let herself inhale the earthy pine scent in the air mixed with the freshness of the new fallen snow. What a coincedence it was to find him here again around the same time she had first seen him. Of course back then it was snowing nor was she as sterdy on her feet as she was now.
"Around everyvhere it seems." she smiled. It was true she didn't venture far, but she did wish to visit places she had never seen before and ones that held spectacular new creatures and soquili she had heard about. But in the end she would always come back here. Her home. Her sancuary. "Tell me, vhat's it like.. out there.. in the vorld?" she responded softly, her eyes filled with an unknown emotion that might have been hope.
What would it be like to traveling the way he did? To leave everyone and everything familiar behind? She didn't think she could do it. Granted, she didn't think she could much of anything without the help of her friends and family.
"I vould like to see the vorld someday too.."

Taigi smiled at her softly, but the distant hint of adventure never left his eyes. "It is very different, Nevvy. It is intriguing, divine and beautiful. You feel the freedom just standing still and looking out at it!" The light wind tossed his mane, pulling it back to show the thrilled grin that kept to his face and made his eyes twinkle.
"If you wish it, I could take you to see the world..." Surely she would either object or reject, both options leading to the same outcome of him wandering alone once more. And for once, this upset him a slight bit, "scorching deserts of sand which are far too warm to let the snow near.. Forests of many volumes of rain, eternally damp.. Wide open plains, tall grasses swaying in trance-like motions... You'll love it Nevvy, I'm sure you will." There was nothing, he now noticed, nothing that would feel better than having a friend on a journey.
But she wouldn't leave her family, at least he didn't think so. If she'd remained in this same location for so long, from her birth, he supposed, then she was bound to these soils. Her heart breathing the same musky scent for the entirety of her lifetime, "of course, don't feel urged to make any decisions, sorry." It was now he who hesitantly touched his muzzle to her neck, careful to avoid her skin contacting his horn, before drawing back with a sheepish, awkward smile on his face.

She could see the change in his eyes as she watched him and listened to him. Beautiful. She thought. Divine. She looked around her and smiled faintly. This was the only place that she's been that she'd thought was truely beautiful. What else could make her feel the way she did when she was here? She was sure there were other place she had yet discover.
Nevara took a deep breath and held it. Something in her stomach started to flutter when he asked her to join him. Really? She couldn't believe it. "Really? You'd let me go vith you?" She closed her eyes and slowly released the breath she had been holding and tried to imagine the worlds he described as he spoke of them. All of which seemed to hold it's own wonder and appeal. "I vould like to... go with you. It all sounds so wonderful." The truth of it was she always wanted to see the world but the fear of traveling alone or being abandoned had also stopped her from doing so.
So what changed that now? He came back. After all that time he came back and kept his promise to see her again. And that meant more to her than anything. "Thank you." she whispered softly as he nuzzled her neck lightly. She looked up at him when he pulled away and she smiled warmly. "Thank you so much."

When Nevara'd looked about at the scene surrounding them, he was sure of her disagreement; her will to remain in her homeland. So when she had agreed, he felt ecstasy shoot through his blood, giving him reason to believe that all was well and splendid.
"Of course I'd take you with me, Nevvy. I'd love for you to see what I've seen..." His eyes smoldered with emotion; Joy at the prospect of her coming along, a tinge of sorrow knowing that some part of her must long for her home once she leaves, and the persistent explorative shine. And there was a part of him wondering whether or not she'd truly regret it at the midpoint of their travels. This was a horrid thought, nearly tearing him apart. On one hand, or hoof, he was absolutely infatuated with the idea of a companion, let alone his long-lost and valued friend, accompanying him. But on the other hand, what would she be leaving behind? Was it really worth taking that away?
When she thanked him, for whatever reason, he felt the doubt slipping away. As long as she was willing, he would take her. He knew that; That as long as she spoke the words, though they might not be true, he would selfishly remain oblivious to the nagging knowledge of her true thoughts. He would walk beside her, taking into depth talk of things such as their location and the surroundings. He sighed, an inaudible sound, and tilted his head to the side ever so slightly, "won't you miss all of this?" The question was to be brought up eventually, the question he had to know the answer to.

Of course the thought of missing her home was present often in her mind, but the feeling that she'd regret not going struck her with more force than she thought possible. She had to go and it was as simple as that. She didn't want to live with the 'what if's' of what might have happened if she didn't go. "Of course. But I think I need to do this. For me."
"So, Vhere vere you headed after this?" She asked curiously, her head cocked to one side. Her stomach still felt like it was going to explode from all the butterflies. Why wouldn't they calm down in there?
Her eyes searched his for a moment, there was such deep emotion and for a moment she let herself get lost in them. When she blinked again, her eyes wandered to her feet then to the waterfall beside her which reminded her that it might be a good idea to tell her family where she was headed. She'd hate for them to be worried about her. Especially her father. And perhaps Uncle Jo as well. He'll probably want to know who I was traveling with too. He smiled to herself at the thought. In a way he was more protective of her than her father. "There's just a couple things I'd have to do first... You can come vith me.. If you vant."

He sighed a content sigh, smiling warmly at her. The mental image he received was so serene, frosted at the edges like a faraway dream. It was one of him beside her, running free with no obstacles but scarce doubt. And he was happy, joy spilling over the edges of his tidepool of emotions.
Her next question was one that was difficult to answer, however. How was he to know where he was headed? He'd never relied on more than pure spirit and his subconscious, so he chuckled in response, "well, we're headed wherever the wind takes us, Nevara."
There was a moment when her eyes held his, and he could see the excitement in her eyes as well. Then the mare spoke of things she had to do, and Taigi knew that those things were more than likely a mass of 'good-by's' and tellings of her destination. And who to speak to of such things other than family and dearest friends? Though he had a depressing thought of her leaving and never coming back to him, he knew that it wasn't his place. Or was it? Would her father wish to meet the stallion his daughter "ran away" with?
"I'll come if I must; but I believe it isn't my place to be. So it's your choice. I could wait for you here if you prefer."

The snow on the ground crunched as Nevara took a step towards the lake, her gaze lingering on the reflection inside that resided there as she took in what he said. 'we're'. That word kept spinning around in her head. Yeah, I guess ve are... she thought with a smile. She turned back to him with a slightly larger smile and nodded to him. "Sounds good!"
She flipped her hair out her eyes and shook her head slightly at his offer. It was nice of him to offer to stay here but knowing her father and over protective uncle they'd want to meet the person she was traveling the world with. "I think it vould go over better if you meet vith them as vell." she took a couple step towards him "If you don't mind. It vould just help them, knoving I'm someone that vould help me if I needed it." Hopefully he understood what she was trying to say. To her, it just sounded like a bunch of jumbled words. Why was she so nervous about asking him to meet her family? She cleared her throat and shook the thought from her mind. It didn't matter at the moment.
"Did you have anyone else you vanted to see vhile your here?" she asked. The question asking more if he planned on staying longer than just a couple hours. "Or vould you like to just get the goodbyes over vith?" She took a couple more strides so that she was face to face with him and lightly nudged his shoulder with her own.
Her breath came out as a small puff of white smoke in the cool air around them. But between them it was slightly warmer, a comfortable kind of warm, probably from they're body heat. She turned her face towards him, her muzzle lightly brushing against his neck. "Shall ve go?"

Snow began to fall once more. Microscopic pieces of frozen liquid, cascading onto the earth all around them. And so, it faded the scene in a way, as if it truly were a far off memory or dream. But this was real. Their light breathing melted the snow when it dared to come close to the pair, and Taigi's ebony coat remained in such a color, for the heated, unnoticeable to anyone else flush of adrenaline and something he couldn't identify radiated out and turned flakes into droplets.
"Of course Nevvy, I did say the choice was yours after all." He smiled softly, but he was a little nervous. He recalled a scene, this one truly in his head, of a dark Unicorn foal cautiously approaching a hazy blue one with cheerful skulls sprinkled across her rump. 'Um, Nevvy, what happens if your daa finds us?' Tai chuckled at the distant memory that was so clear at this point in time.
"But Nevvy, what happens if your daa sees us?" He repeated the foal's words with slight alteration, chuckling once more, and reaching to alter a strand of her hair that lay across her face, moistened by the melted ice flakes. "Which way, then?" His head bowed a little, gesturing out to the way out of 'their' little meeting spot. They would come back here, he was sure. Some day...
