Hisoka was on a mission. The bone-baby was in a hand-me-down baby carrier and carried like a burden through the grocery store as her caretaker snooped up and down the aisles in search of baby food.
"You really don't like anything I give you," she said the girl accusingly.
Rosie - Levsali still, to herself- made an uncomprehending face as the devil carrying her spoke. What language of hell was this?

Hoss, for once, was being civil in public. Rusty had made sure to pick up more grape juice (Apple for himself, but it was known that Hoss would not be having any part of that crap) and there were various other things that were tasty in the basket. Pastries and fruits and other sweets.
"You think that we need to pick up any more baby food for Opec?"
"Gapefoot." Hoss mentioned. That was what Opec ate. Grapefruit with sugar, the fat little b*****d.
"Oh, right..."
Down the baby isle anyway!

Busy looking at three different types of pureed peas, Hisoka didn't notice Rusty nor the bright purple child he brought with him.
Rosie, however, did. The bright familiar color made her heart leap with fear and hope. One of her people?...no, something about it wasn't right. It looked...wait. Its hands. Oh, gods! It was a freak, a monstrosity like her!
...but still, better the companionship of the damned then a devil.
"Gh-hhhhuh," she said, trying to make her mouth shape sensible words. Damn it! "Hhhh-eeeehf."

Hoss looked up at the infant, eyebrows furrowing and eyes narrowing. Hrm? He blinked away the initial annoyance and gave the strange infant a little wave. Holy s**t, those were some freaktacular hands, and he hand hooks with thumbs for hands.
"Hilo." Because, hey. when you'd put all your time into prepping your motor skills, your vocal skills suffered. But at least he could walk.

Rosie felt her heart thumping hard in her chest. No. No. She was too scared. This thing was nothing like her. It had awful-looking hooklike things for hands, surely it was going to come at her and rip her to pieces.
"Hih," she said, fleshless fingers curling over her face in fright. Her eyes crinkled and tears leaked down her face.
Hisoka heard the Unhappy Baby Noise and tutted.
"Ah, now, Rosie, c'mon," she said. "I'll find ya some peaches or something, chill."

Hoss made a face. He hadn't even tried to be nasty, and the stupid thing cried. He gave a little 'harumph' sort of noise and looked up at Rusty, who was going over his shopping list slowly.
"Russy, baby's bein stoopids."
"Don't thcare babieth, Hoth honey. Pleathe?"
"Didn' scare! Was bein goods!" A moment for pausing. "For unc."

"Aw, don't worry about her, she's just kinda touchy," Hisoka said, waving it off. She turned, then blinked and looked back at her companions. "I know you," she said, pointing right in Rusty's face. "You hadda hook-baby."
Trying to wrestle her terror under control, Rosie peeked out from behind her hands. They were....talking? Planning terrible things? Who knows?
"Hh..." she said, carefully. "Hhhn. Nn..nuh. Nuhhhhvuh."
Drat it all, she couldn't even say hello. Gods take this blasted body and burn it!

"Babieth grow." Rusty smiled happily. No doubt the blonde looked different. He'd gained a bit of weight, no longer looking like he was starved. "It'th good to thee you again." Smiles and happy. Such a change from the quiet, scared man of before.
Hmmm. Judging from the luck he had, this little infant would also have been a criminal cast to Gaia. Hoss scooted closer, looking at her. He could tell that she wasn't too pleased with her current lot in life. He held up a hook in a nonthreating way, for her to see. He wasn't going to hurt you. Yet. Not until he figured out what you were and what use you could be later.
"Hi." He repeated. It was an easy enough greeting. Informal, but easy.

"Good to see you too," Hisoka said, grinning. "Lookin' pretty good, didn't even recognize you for a second."
Rosie flinched at first, expecting a blow, then relented and lowered her hands a bit.
"Nuhhhvuh," she tried again. "Nngh. Nnh..naaaa. Na. NA. Navvvuh.Nahhvuuh-aah."
She brightened. Success!
"Naavah!"
Now if only Hook Devil spoke her language, she'd be all set.

Alas, Hook-Devil did not. He just watched her, purple eyes narrowed slightly. Holy s**t, those were some ******** up feet. Hands too. And he thought he'd gotten it bad, having hooks and a p***s.
"Naa-vah?" Hoss repeated. "Hi."
"That'th good then!" Rusty giggled. OH, such a happy boy. "How've you been, other than getting your little baby?"

Hi? Eh? This thing was just talking gibberish at her now.
"Naavah," Rosie said decisively. "Esszh. Nnf. Esssht ya Lelalli."
Damn, that didn't make any sense at all. Rosie felt frustrated tears welling hot and weird in her eyes again and her face puckered like a prune.
"Le...la...li," she said, trying to sound out her name for the devil. "Uuufh! Yaah peh...pehhf."
"Not bad," Hisoka said honestly. "She's a good girl, really. Quiet thing. I think she's sorta scared of me, though. Other'n that...y'know. Glamorous life of a coffee shop girl, all that."

Hook-Devil patted one body hand with a metal hook. There there. It was confusing to wake up in a body that wasn't yours. Hoss was here to help.
"Thhe'th interethting." Rusty smiled, nodding to the baby. "Hopefully thhe'll calm down thoon."

((HAY LOOK A REPLY 3 MONTHS LATE 8D ))
Rosie flinched at the touch on her fleshless hand. She couldn't feel it, but the unexpected contact was startling just the same. But, Hook Devil was trying to be friendly, she supposed.
"Huuh," she said awkwardly, trying to be gracious. She pointed at Hoss, then at her own devil. All friends here?

Hoss gave a little grunt and shrugged. Hell if he knew. Rusty was a friendly sort of person. "Wusty." Hoss pointed at the blonde. "Hoss." He pointed at himself.
Because, well, 'he' was Hoss. Jasper was long gone.
