 Her breaths were erratic and her eyes were fast filling with tears. She didn't know this place. She didn't know it at all. She was alone in a place she had never seen before.
Last thing she remembered was running for her life. Like her mother had told her to. "Mother..." she whispered and sniffed. Was she even alive? Tears were now running freely down her cheeks. All she remembered was running and running and her dark aura getting stronger until all she could see was black. And then she was here. Just like that. How?
She had been trying to figure that out for the last three days. It was the aura, that much she knew. She knew this smoke was special but she couldn't control it. She had barely managed to make most of it go away like usual but some of it was still there. Desiree desperately tried to get her emotions under control, it was the only way she knew to deal with the smoke. Most of the time it was barely visible and she looked as normal as any other cub. But now that she was under such severe stress she couldn't make it go away completely.
"I want my mommy." she whispered to herself. She had been sure her mother would come and get her. But now it seemed she was wrong, her mother wasn't coming. Maybe she had gotten too far away or...her mother was gone.
And now one question haunted her mind every second. What was she going to do? She was just a cub, how would she survive?

What a beautiful morning! Sulis stretched her body outside of the den. The sun was warm on her fur and the air was so sweet to her nose as she breathed in deep. As like every morning, Sulis would visit the nearby river to take her morning bath. This morning wasn't any different and the Saighneian headed to the river with a quick side stop for breakfast, some berries.
With a quick test of her large paw she realized the water was cool and welcoming. As she was about to begin cleaning herself, a noise caught Sulis' attention. It sounded like someone was crying and it tugged at her heart. Instinct took over and she abandoned her routine. Her large ears swivelled back and forth trying to zero in on where the noise was coming from.
It was off to her right and she quickly dashed into that direction. As she moved closer the sound grew louder. She finally stopped running when she saw a great ball of smoke in front of her. She knelt close by it and sniffed, it smelled like Saighneian. Confused, she backed up a bit. "Erm...Hello?"

Desiree sniffed and rubbed her paw over her face brushing away tears, but new ones soon replaced them. She couldn't stop crying and in the end she stopped trying to. She wanted her mother, she wanter out of here. Yes she wanted it, but would it happen?
She herd footsteps, something big was coming her way. She froze in place, not sure what to do. Her heart pumped wildly with fear. To her surprise she just felt someone sniffing at her. Then she herd the Saigh that had approached her speak. Slowly the scared little girl turned to face the other. She sniffed and calmed down a bit when she saw the female. She didn't seem hostile.
"Hello." she sniffed "Who are you?" Desiree gladly noticed her voice, even if squeaky and scared, had retained that undertone of pride. When she grew this would develop and her voice would instill respect in the one she spoke to. Currently, however, she was a long way from that.
Most of the smoke around her also cleared. The presence of another being, even if it was a stranger, comforted her.

The smoke began to clear and Sulis soon realized there was a small cub at her feet. She looked as though she had been crying for quite some time, even more obvious was when she spoke and yet there was something else there, something strong.
The adult saigh's face softened, "I'm Sulis. I heard some crying and...Are you alright?" Instinct told her to comfort the cub with a motherly lick but she held back, a bit unsure how the little one would react.

"I'm Desiree." Her eyes overflowed with tears again. "I...I l-lost my m-mommy." she sobbed "They w-ere chasing us...I don't think she...that she..she is.." she couldn't say it. She couldn't even think that her mother was probably not alive any more.
"I'm scared. I don't even know how I got here." She whispered, stepping closer to Sulis. She looked up, into the eyes of the female, trying to figure out what she was thinking. She hoped she wasn't scared of the smoke. Others often thought her a freak because of it, but it wasn't dangerous. Her mother knew that.
"I want my mommy..."

Sulis gently pulled Desiree closer to her while giving their surroundings a quick scan. She looked down at the little cub, "Don't worry, you're safe now."
Things were normally so pleasant around here it was difficult to even think of another Saighneian or something all together had chased a mother and cub but here was the proof. Sulis straightened up, stopping herself from such thoughts, all that mattered now was Desiree's safety and care. "I bet you must be hungry. Let's eat before we start looking for your mother. This place is quite a maze if you don't live here."
She tried her best to keep the conversation light and cheery. A small distraction for now.

Desiree let herself be pulled closer to Sulis and snuggled into her. It was so good to feel the warmth of another again. She smiled at Sulis, her heartbeat normal once again.
"I am a little hungry." she mumbled and her stomach growled as if on cue "Okay, maybe not just a little." she giggled and wiped the tears away. Her voice was still shaky, though. "I've been here for..a while." Two days and a half to be exact. "I didn't go anywhere because mom always said that when you get lost it's best to stay put and wait to be found."

Sulis smiled at Desiree when she giggled at her own stomach's opinion. "Well you did a great job then. See I found you! Now let's get down by the creek and start fishing." Her own stomach started to twist just enough to let her know it was time to eat.
Then the female thought about the small bones in the fish. "Have you ever eaten fish? If not then I'm sure we can find some berries near here..." Once again Sulis scanned the area, a tad worried about what would happen if they stayed too long considering that this small clearing was just ouside of her territory.

"I've tried fish." Desiree said, thinking back to when her mother tried to teach her a few hunting tricks. She was too young, though. "I liked it a lot." She smiled at the memory.
"Berries are good, too," she added "I don't have any special preferences." Smiling Desiree got up to her paws, ready to follow Sulis to wherever she was planning to take her.

"Alright." Sulis trotted past some bushes, keeping an eye out for a spare berry or two. Within a few minutes she found a small patch just beginning to ripen. With a quick pluck with her teeth she placed the bundle of bluish purple fruit on the ground in front of Desiree.
"A snack for the road," she said with a wink. The creek they were headed to was the one just below Sulis' den, where she had been earlier that morning. It would be quite a while before they caught fish so some extra food to nibble would be beneficial for a small stomach

Desiree trotted happily after Sulis, staying close. She smiled widely at the berries she placed in front of her. "Thank you!" She ate them quickly and with great pleasure. "Those were very tasty." The cub said when she was finished and licked her lips.
"Where will we go to catch fish?" She asked, looking around to see if there was any water nearby.
