I was talking with a friend about Beatrice, and he thought that she was such a sad and tragic part of the books and a little depressing for kids to be reading about. Personally, I think she makes a really great addition to the whole series, and the dedications are just really beautiful.
So, what are your thoughts and comments on Beatrice?

I like how he mentions and dedicates all of the books to her but the worst part is he keeps mentioning the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and you get the picture.

I love Beatrice. I think she's my favorite character... Can she even be considered a character? I think she has a really crucial part though because if you piece the stuff Lemony says about her together you figure out she died in a fire after the schism which probably means she was in VFD. I just think she is an awesome part of the series.

I completely disagree with the part about it being 'to despressing for kids'. If he believes any mention of death is bad for kids aged 8-14, then he'd make a grossly overprotective father when he gets older. (If he has children.)
But Beatrice seems like a very interesting person and obviously plays a big part in the deranged world of Snicket. There's a photo of her in the Autobiography, it's in black and white, and the picture's there as if she was a teacher.

If he thinks the mention of Beatrice is too depressing for kids, shouldn't he think all of it is too depressing?
Anyway, I'm not sure what to make of Beatrice. She's definitely an interesting addition, though.
