Dion had never been to a park before and despite how Zach was skeptical about bringing him Emilie had shushed him with a few choice words. Zach, having had to sudden sprout of artistic motivation, was not with them today. He decided to stay home and work on something that he deemed too secret to even think about. Both Emilie and Dion knew that, by the time they got home, the entire house would be covered in paint and Zach would most likely deem the painting as the next Mona Lisa. There was no way of stopping him, no way to convince him to put a few newspapers down for the sake of Emilie. So, rather then waste time and energy, the two headed off to the park in silence. Emilie was covered from head to toe in clothe, only her smiling face and hands showed through those layers of fabric.

Like usual, upon arrival at the park Dion was giddy and impatient. Emilie told him slowly and softly that she would be sitting on the bench near the exit. She told him that if he had any problems that he should go to her and tell her immediately. She also warned him to stay away from strangers like most parents do. This all took a few seconds that seemed to drag on for hours, by the time she was done Dion was hopping from one leg to another before he bolted off to the swings and slides.

Dion ignored the other children in the park, he wasn't one to spark up a conversation unless given a reason he himself deemed worthy. Besides, all these kids were dull, boring. None of them had wings or horns or purple skin like the two girls he had met before. They were all either pale or had dark skin and each had the same variety of hair color. To Dion they all looked the same despite their different clothing. Dion ignored them, ignored the looks he got from them like he usually did and immediately ran for the brightly colored swings and slides.

He examined them, touched them, smelled them. He was fascinated by their color and how the light bounced off of them. He used the claws on his hand to scrape some of the paint off of them but, remembering the warnings Zach and Emilie had given him a few days back, he didn't taste it like he wanted to. Dion spent his sweet time looking at examining them until he eventually began to play on them.

Dion zoomed back and forth between the swings and the slide before finally simply spending his time on the slide. Neither were as fun as Dion had expected but fun enough to keep him entertained. The swings were too hard to use considering that Dion's legs could barely reach the bottom and there was always a line for kids to use them. He didn't like the wait nor did he like the constant nagging to get off. The slide was better but still had it's negative side. Dion didn't mind the latter up but the slide was enclosed and spiraled down so the ring around his upper body scrapped against the metal walls. Not to mention that more then twice some kid behind him would jump immediately after him and land on his tail. So, after a half an hour or so, Dion grew bored.

He wandered around the park, watching the other kids play as they ran around with their friends. Dion was silent, like usual, watching as his tailed swayed subconsciously behind him and his rings turn slowly around him. He didn't want to go back to Emilie because that would mean that they'd have to go back home and he didn't want to go back just yet. Instead he made his way to a set of benches on the opposite side of the park away from Emilie and sat down. He sat their for a few seconds, growing bored rather fast before his eyes caught sight of a small light green caterpillar. It slowly pulled itself across the bench to a small branch besides it. Dion watched it, watched how it's body curved with every step it took with its multiple legs and examined the black markings on its back. He laid down on the bench, face against the paint chipped wood as he watched the tiny creature move slowly.

If Duncan was anything he was intimidating, it was why he wasn't worried when he saw the park was full today. The kids were easily dealt with when all he had to do was give them a long glare with his trio of eyes to send them scurrying away to their mother's screaming about a monster that was going to eat them. He hated being called that under most circumstances but he figured it was... a useful term if it got him to where he wanted to be. That place being the jungle gym. He liked to sit on top of it, it was a rather... relaxing feeling being so up high and above everything else which was why he'd decided he was going to do his breathing exercises there today.

He walked along, the claws on his toes tapping against the ground, his metallic wings chimed behind him as they flapped, and he was looking generally angry... not because he was but it just seemed to be his normal expression. It didn't help him to look any less so when his third, yellow eye looked at everything and everyone in a manner that was clearly sizing them up. It was like a built in security device, checking out situations to decide who was dangerous and who wasn't and took note of its findings.

It wasn't long before the jungle gym had cleared out and he was climbing up it, sitting on top and watched for a rather amused moment as the kids starred at him from a safe distance. While a part of him hated people being so scared another part of him, the darker part was pleased...

Dion was fascinated by the tiny creature and, after staring at it for a minute or so, he picked it up carefully with his clawed fingers. He then placed it gently in the palm of his hand and brought it closer to his eyes. He pushed himself up into a sitting position and just as he did so he heard a child cry out in fear. He flinched at the noise, having been caught off guard, before staring at the child who clung to his mother. Actually there were numerous children clinging to their parents though not all of them were in complete hysteria like this one child. Dion's eye followed the direction in which they stared before he finally set his sight on a man sitting on top of the jungle gym.

Now this was interesting, the man didn't look like any of the kids. Instead he looked similar to Dion but not, to put it simply he looked different. The man had red skin and metal wings that Dion could hear even from this distance. They chimed softly as they moved and Dion found that absolutely amazing. Of course, with someone this interesting now within the park Dion was back in full swing. He stood up quickly and zoomed off towards the jungle gym. He held the hand that had the caterpillar steady as he moved, he didn't want to cause the small bug any harm nor did he want to lose it. Maybe Emilie would let him take it home as a pet? It was small enough to go unnoticed if she said no...

The kids in the park parted to allow Dion through as he moved quickly and silently. He didn't understand why they were all so far away from the jungle gyms, after all this guy seemed much more entertaining then the swings or slides. As Dion grew closer he began to slow down to a walk. This man had horns too and bones surrounding his ribcage. Dion stared at him with that same fascinated look he usually gave people or things he found interesting.

Dion noticed that the man had an angry air to him despite his amused expression as he stared down at the frightened children. Dion stared up, eyes widening as he noticed something else about him. He had three eyes. THREE EYES!! Not only that but the third eye didn't seem to blink like his other two. Three eyes, the top one didn't blink AND they were all different colors?!?! Dion, to say the least, was jealous. He frowned up at the man but said nothing. Not only was he unsure of what to say to the man but he didn't exactly want to say anything. Even if he had the guts to narrow his eyes at the guy the man was a little frightening considering the way he looked at people. Still, Dion frowned and frowned and frowned some more.

He'd frown until the man realized he was there and then he'd give him an earful about how having three eyes was unfair!

Duncan was dazing, eyes starring out over the park and he froze when he felt eyes on him. He turned to look in the direction the feeling was coming from and he blinked two of his eyes when he found the source. Some kid...? He turned so that he was facing the kid more head on and leaned forward... kid looked rather put out about something. Was he planning on coming up here and Duncan had claimed the perch first?

"What are you pouting about, kid?" He asked, wings giving a little twitch not appreciating how he was being looked at. The kid should be scurrying away from him like the rest of the kids in the park, not giving him dirty looks.

Dion was quick to respond. He pointed his free hand up and directly at the red teenager. To be specific, he pointed to his third eye, the one that didn't blink. "You have three eyes!" He said as if it was the worst thing you could possible do. "That's cheating!" Dion continued with a frown. "It doesn't blink either! CHEATER!" He nearly shouted. The kids around him stared at him as if he was mad, completely insane and just getting crazier. Dion didn't care, they were boring. Dion would much rather be crazy then boring.

Dion stood there, frowning up at the teenager some more. He continued to point while his other hand held the caterpillar in a gentle fist as a means to keep it from escaping. He waited for his response despite how he lacked patience in these types of situation.

He wanted to hear what this guy had to say. Having three eyes was obviously a crime. I mean, how many people have three eyes? Three eyes with one that DID NOT blink. This was outrageous! What kind of person went to sleep at night knowing that piece of information about them self? It was insane, HOW WAS DION EVER GOING TO WIN A STARING CONTEST AGAINST HIM?!?! Or anyone with three eyes for that matter???

Dion was getting worked up for nothing but he didn't know that. For Dion, having three eyes was kind of a big deal.

Duncan starred for a long time as though he were trying to figure out what in the world the kid was yelling at him about. He blinked two of his three eyes and it was then that it made sense to him, "Ahh, I see." He murmured, then started to laugh... he couldn't help himself, it was funny to that kid yelling about something as strange as eyes and how one of them didn't blink.

"Really?" He asked, rising to his feet on the bars and jumped down to land in front of the kid and rose up so that he was looming over him, "So tell me, what am I cheating at, kid?"

Dion was annoyed by the guys laughing. He thought he was funny? Dion wasn't trying to be funny. He was absolutely, positively, undeniably serious! He frowned at the man even more as he stood up on top of the jungle gym. When he jumped down Dion couldn't help but jump back a little, he hadn't thought that he'd jump down from that high but then again he was much bigger then Dion so Dion assumed that being that big made heights less scary. None the less, Dion knew how his sudden draw back would make him look. He'd appear scared; scared of this guys towering figure that did, in all honesty, scare him. He was so tall Dion had to pull his head all the way back to stare at his face.

Dion swallowed his fear and held onto his pride. This guy wasn't going to laugh at him like that!

Dion took a step forward, going back to where he had stood before and getting close to the man. He frowned up at him despite how his neck hurt a little to be staring up so high. And then he spoke, asking a question that angered Dion. Did he not know?! Did he not realize that he was cheating at the one thing that should never be cheated?!??

"Staring." Dion said sharply in response. "Your eye doesn't blink. It's not far. How is someone going to win against it if it doesn't blink?" Dion asked with a c**k of his head though it wasn't much. He couldn't really turn his head that much to the side without it hurting a little. "That's cheating." He added in a slightly sarcastic tone, as if Duncan was too stupid to piece everything Dion had said together.

"Its a way to protect myself, it sees everything even things my other eyes may miss." Duncan said, exaggerating slightly but at the moment he didn't really care that he was, "People aren't supposed to be able to win against it."

The only problem with the yellow eye was that it dubbed various things as dangerous that Duncan might not see as such. Things like Adriel... who was the least dangerous person he knew.

The teen leaned back against the jungle gym in a rather lazy manner, "I am not going to blind myself so you can win a child game." He told Dion, his eyes narrowing again. He shouldn't allow himself to get annoyed at someone that didn't know better he told himself, mentally counting to ten and drawing in deep, steadying breaths.

Dion listened to the man as he spoke though he kept his frown. A way to protect? From what? Things that his other eyes didn't see? It would be nice if he gave an example. Dion wasn't sure if he understood it all, he didn't know what the man could be protecting himself from or what he might see that was different from what Dion or anyone else saw. Still, he kept his mouth shut for the time being. He didn't like it that 'people aren't supposed to be able to win against it' and was just about ready to say that his third eye was no fun.

But he didn't, something told him not to. Actually, it was more along the lines that he had decided to say something else. "You don't have to." Dion said in response to Duncan's last comment. He wasn't asking him to blind himself nor was staring a childish game. Anyone could do it, Zach and Emilie did it all the time and they weren't children. "I'll just work harder." Dion said to him as he hit his own chest in a manly gesture. He did so a little harder then he intended and if he hadn't been putting on the tough guy act for Duncan he would have most likely winced at the impact.

Dion continued to stare at him or rather his third eye. It was his rival now, his rival in all things staring. And although Dion wouldn't be able to beat it now he knew he would be able to. One day.

He gave a nod of his head, "Yeah, working hard is always a good idea." He said as he watched the boy. It was a little amusing once he got over the initial annoyance of the idea of his third eye cheating at games. He watched as Dion smacked a hand against his own chest and he let out a little chuckle, "Your a strange one. So... do you have a name, kid? Or should I keep calling you 'kid'?"

Dion stopped staring at Duncan's third eye, finally, and stared at him as a whole. Who was this guy calling strange? He was the strange one. Dion was just a kid though he wouldn't admit that nor did he want to be referred to as a kid by this guy. "No." He said sourly. "My name's Dion." He reached a hand out, offering it as a hand shake. Emilie had told him that if he wanted to appear "up to pare" with anyone older then him he'd have to stand up tall, hold his ground, make eye contact, and shake hands. So, Dion was going to do just that despite how he wasn't exactly sure what "up to pare" meant. It didn't matter, this guy was older then him and he'd already done three of the fours things so he might as well go all the way.

"What about you? You have a name or should I keep calling you cheater?" He asked as he cocked his head gently to the side in question. Dion would have to work harder to beat this guy, he might as well start now.

Duncan looked down at the hand before he took it, giving it a shake, "My name is Duncan." He said, "Cheater doesn't really fit since only you see it as cheating." He gave his hand a squeeze before releasing him and motioned, "I'm heading back up, good view from up there. Join me?"

He turned and climbed back up to the top of the jungle gym, allowing for Dion to follow along if he wished to.

Dion wasn't exactly sure what Duncan meant when he squeezed his hand after giving it a shake. None the less Dion felt that it wasn't anything too bad if he was asking him to join him up on the jungle gym. Dion watched at he climbed up with very little trouble and he wondered if it'd be that easy for him to do the same. Dion glanced down at his hand as he slowly opened up his fist to show the caterpillar in his palm. Where was he going to put this little guy? He still wanted to take it home but how was he supposed to get up their with one hand?

Dion stared up at Duncan for a moment as he thought this over. Where should he put the caterpillar? He couldn't leave it in a bush or any where within the reach of these screaming kids. They'd kill it immediately after he put it down. Dion decided that the best place to put the little guy was on his head. It was securely on his shoulders and away from any praying hands. Dion lifted his hand and gently slide the caterpillar onto his purple haired head. The caterpillar's weight was barely noticeable and for a second Dion thought that maybe he had injured the little guy in transition but once the little thing started to move around Dion was proven other wise.

Once that was set and done Dion began his way up the jungle gym. Duncan had made it easier then it looked but Dion did his best. One step over the other was what Dion kept telling himself. He made sure not to move his head too much and, most importantly, he did his best not to look down. He tried to appear nonchalant but the gentle furrow of his brow blew his cover. After a few seconds Dion was placing himself steadily besides Duncan. His fist were tightly around the bar that he sat on as he put on his best cool cat posture and said, "Piece of cake."

Dion looked back to the teenager, ignoring the stares they were getting and the overall view. "What do you do up here?" Dion couldn't help but ask. Who spent their time on top of a jungle gym? After all, this jungle gym was a bazillion feet off the ground! Or so Dion had convinced himself. Dion moved between looking to Duncan and staring into his own lap. He avoided looking any where else and his tail curled over his lap and hooked itself by the barb onto one of the bars around him as if it was taking precaution. The rings circling his upper body and tail spun slightly faster and the crystals shook gently as if nervous.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 5:15 pm

Duncan wasn't watching Dion, or at least it wouldn't appear so... though he was a little surprised to see that Dion was doing his best to climb up after him... he was trying really hard to keep up wasn't he? It was kind of cute, "Yeah, you did well." He said to compliment the kid on his bravery in following him up so high.

He shifted, leaning back on his elbows, his wings giving a flutter, tapping against the bars of the jungle gym, giving off chiming sounds, "Do? Nothing." He said, giving a bit of a grin, "That's the point, to sit up here and do nothing. Its relaxing."

He looked over at the rings around Dion, reaching a hand out to let the spinning crystals tap against his finger tips, "These are neat." He wondered where he got something like them, the metal looked similar to his wings but the crystals weren't something he had.

Dion would have gloated with the compliment if he wasn't alone up on top of the jungle gym with Duncan. Instead he did his best to hold back a smile and calm his nerves. He watched as Duncan leaned back onto his elbows as if it was nothing and couldn't help but be slightly jealous. Dion didn't have the nerve to let go of the bar and do the same, he didn't dare. Not to mention that his hands were so tightly clamped around the bar he wasn't sure if he could let go for anything but going back down. Still, he did his best to act nonchalant though he wasn't sure if he was pulling it off.

"Nothing." Dion repeated. The word stung, as if it was salt in a wound. Dion hated doing nothing, he was incapable of doing nothing. He tried to do nothing at night when he was awake and everyone else slept but he couldn't. How could he do nothing here, in a park, on top of the jungle gym when he couldn't do it at home? "I hate doing nothing." He said bitterly. "Nothing's boring." He thought for a moment. Wouldn't it be great to do something? Whatever that something was Dion was sure it was better then doing nothing. But Duncan liked doing nothing, he said it was relaxing. Dion remained silent. Dion wondered if there was a way to do nothing and something at the same time. This way both Duncan and Dion could have fun and relax all at once and everyone would be happy.

Dion stopped going over the great possibilities of doing something and nothing at once when Duncan tapped one of the crystals on the ring surrounding his upper body. He was the second person to say they were nice, the first having been Ebony though that encounter ended with his tail ring getting bent and losing two of its for crystals. Dion glanced at his tail, the ring bent into a crooked star that had been crafted in Ebony's hands. It was much better then the one Dion had tried to make after he realized that its original circle was impossible to reform. "Yeah, I guess." Dion said a little low. He had never really seen his rings as much despite how he had yet to see anyone else with them. Was it possible that he was the only person with them? No way, Dion was sure there was at least one other person out there with similar ones. Right? Dion ignored his own thoughts, he had other questions on his mind. Bigger questions.

"How do you do nothing?" Dion asked, turning and looking at Duncan with a slight frown. He was wanted to know, he had tried many times to do nothing but it never lasted long and usually ended with him doing things much more ruthless. Dion figured it was a simple question for Duncan, after all he seemed to enjoy doing nothing. Therefore, he must be a master at doing nothing.
