Life had been slow the past few months. Mornings seemed to come earlier and earlier and Akina was beginning to feel like less of a cub. But it made her a bit sad inside. Each time the sun rose, it was a new day. But once she saw the sun set, she would realize that a whole day had gone by. What had she done? Romped around, goofed off, play-fought with her siblings, annoyed her dads...But there was still an odd, empty sort of feeling about the whole thing. What was her purpose? Where was she going?

What was she doing?

Brows furrowing and tail lashing about, Akina had put herself in a rather sour mood. She sighed, walking out to the water hole nearest to her family's home. It wasn't that far away, but Akina didn't feel like walking. She didn't feel like doing anything except being sad and angry. Her teeth were grinding and her claws were outstretched as she walked.

Gold eyes settling on the water hole ahead, Akina trotted up to it, head high like she didn't care if the largest crocodiles were living there. She would take them on.

As she bent down to take a lap at the water, her eyes caught something white on the other side of the bank. Her jaw dropped and she jerked her head up.

It was...IT WAS...

"Kinyago...?" she breathed, staring. Her head whirred and she wondered what to do; approach him or wait for him to notice her? Confused and flustered, Akina ended up standing stiffly with her mouth open and eyes gaping, looking absolutely stupid.

Kinyago was in a rather good mood. It was a new morning and very nice outside. It wasn't often that the weather in the winter months felt so good. As he walked across the plains, he realized.... that he had no idea where he was. He stopped moving and let out a long sigh, he was getting lost way too often these days, and he was frustrated about it considering he was a dog and felt it was supposed to be easier for him with his superior senses and whatnot.

Taking a look around, he noticed a small water hole and figured he might as well get something to drink if he was gonna spend the rest of the day trying to figure out where he was. He walked over to the bank and began to drink when he heard a rustle on the other side of the hole. Stiffening his body instinctively, he looked up slowly towards the noise. But he couldn't see what it was, there was a lot of tall grass a bit in front of him, blocking his view.

"Whoever is over there I don't want any trouble," Kin started tiredly, a fight was the last thing he wanted right now, even though he had gotten a lot stronger recently, but he just wasn't in the mood. "My name is Kinyago, and I'm just stopping for some water and I'll be on my way," he finished.

"Kinyago?" Akina started, making her voice deep and menacing with a twinge of amusement.

She moved through the grasses, blades sliding away from her body and revealing her in the sunlight. Gold eyes met red. Akina grinned.

"That's a stupid name for an antelope." she said sweetly, chin tilting up in a look of entertained arrogance. She was silent for a moment, allowing Kinyago time to remember her. But she got tired of just standing on the other side of the water hole. Her tail flicked once and her muscles flexed, but that was all that was seen before a brown blur replaced any solid shape.

Akina was running around the shore and straight for Kinyago.

"That's a stupid name for an antelope." As soon as Kin heard that, something clicked in his mind. "No... it can't be. There's no way she could be here..." he said aloud. He lifted up his head and looked in front of him only to see a brown blur headed straight for him!

"Akina? That you?" he yelled, backing off a little in fear of getting plowed over by the girl. But he was backing up way too slow to avoid her, and she crashed right into him in a flying tackle.

"Owwwwww...." he groaned as he hit the ground. He opened his eyes and looked up only to see golden ones staring back. "Soooo... you are Akina right? You look... different." he said.

Paws slamming down to crush her "prey" to the ground, Akina flattened Kinyago, beaming with pride at her successful pin attack. She laughed, holding him down for a bit longer than necessary, perhaps to affirm her AMAZING power. She had gotten to him very quickly, her cheetah-inherited speed shining forth. It wasn't often that she could test herself like that. She loved to run and tackle.

Especially those that she...Well...Liked.

Akina jumped away from Kinyago and watched him get up, still grinning. "Didn't think I'd see you again." she laughed, bounding one step left and right, suddenly full of energy. She tried to say something else, but her words came out garbled and she ended up pouncing Kinyago again. She jumped away and spun in a circled around him. "You look bigger, shorty!" she said loudly, tail lashing.

Kin got up, a little confused as to whether this girl who just tackled him really was Akina. But when she tackled him again he knew it just had to be her. He smiled as she got off him again and danced around him. She had definitely grown since he had seen her last. But he had too, no longer was he the small flirty puppy. Now he was a larger, somewhat less flirty dog!

He had grown though, more than just physically. He was smarter, stronger, and had a different outlook to life. Girls simply weren't top priority to him anymore, friends in general were. Although as far as Akina went... she was the top of his list. Even though it had been awhile, and he would never readily admit it.

"You've grown a bit yourself!" he said getting up and dusting himself off, "And faster too! I doubt I could beat you in a race. Maybe a wrestling match now though..." he said with a grin. And just like that, he tackled her to the ground, pinning her underneath his now much stronger limbs.

Akina's back hit the ground hard at the unexpected pounce, the air getting knocked out of her lungs. She wheezed and squinted, trying to get her breath back. She laughed and wriggled, grinning up at Kinyago, heart fluttering. But after a while of wriggling, her smile began to fade. She swatted at him and jerked her body around, attempting to laugh again, but she couldn't get out from under him.

Akina's eyes narrowed. She raised an eyebrow.

So...He was a LITTLE stronger, huh? Right...Well..She was still stronger. Whatever. She'd show him...Just as soon as he'd move...

Problem was, he wasn't moving.

Getting fed up, Akina brought her right-back leg up hard into Kinyago's stomach. Finally, she was able to get up. She grinned, somehow happy and excited. Even though she had been frustrated at being pinned down, she felt...Giddy.

Without warning, Akina jumped on Kinyago's back and grabbed his ear in her teeth, shaking it back and forth. Hard.

Kin smiled down at the struggling Akina, and even grinned a little when he saw her come to the realization that she really couldn't escape. He was proud of his newfound strength, and half-hoped Akina was impressed with it too. He wasn't smiling much after Akina retaliated though.

He was taken by complete surprise when Akina's leg came up into his stomach, and all the air left his lungs because of that. He felt her jump onto his back, she wasn't heavy, and he figured she'd just stay up there as a victory. He was slightly wrong.

He let out an abnormally loud yelp as she bit onto his ear, and he had every right to do so. She had bitten hard and was shaking it back and forth in her mouth! He was screaming in his mind, it hurt really bad. "Hey! What are you doing?!" he barked, "That really hurts!" and with that, he flipped forward, sending Akina flying off his back and several feet forward.

He went to the water hole to check out the damage she had done to his ear. It was bleeding, and there were tiny pieces missing! What was wrong with this girl?! He had just wanted to say 'hi' and she goes and bites part of his ear off?! He bent down and dipped his ear and the water to try and clean it. He sent a mean look towards Akina as he did so.

Akina did several somersaults before stopping right on her chin. She lay motionless for a moment, teeth grinding and eyes squinted. Her head and body pulsed from all the roughness that had been going around. Sitting up, she eased the back of her paw under her chin and felt the damage. It was skinned pretty good. She tasted blood. But wait...

It wasn't her blood...?

Akina whipped her head around and checked on Kinyago. Even from where she sat, she could see the punctures in his ear and the blood trailing down slowly. Her eyes widened and she felt her mouth drop open.

"KIN~!" she cried, sprinting over to him. She faltered at his glare, but kept on towards him. "I'm--I'm sorry." she blurted, tripping over her paws and gazing up and down at him with worry. "I got...Like..." she frowned. She didn't know what to say. Her face pulsed hotly with embarrassment. Certainly he hated her by then...She...She had no chance...But she really hadn't meant it. It was true she liked rough-housing on a daily basis, but she'd never hurt someone so badly before. When she saw him, her head had gone crazy. She got so excited and happy. Before she knew it, she was filled with the need to pounce and fight.

But how could she explain that to him without looking like a freak?

Head bowed low, Akina sighed. "I'm sorry..." she said timidly, not expecting forgiveness.

Kin's ear still ached, and it was still bleeding. But the water had definitely helped it. It was numb now from the cold so he took it out and looked at the reflection again. 'Definitely going to be some scars there... not to mention the missing pieces!' he thought to himself. When he heard Akina's voice coming towards him, he turned towards her angrily.

But when he saw her, and heard her voice, he instantly melted. Which was very unlike Kin, but even more-so that Akina was being so apologetic and timid. He heard her just saying "I'm sorry..." over and over in a small voice that he didn't think Akina could have. He looked at her and noticed that she was actually blushing, and he wondered why.

"Hey." he said softly putting his nose under her chin and lifting her head up, "You ok? Why are you blushing?" He felt the blood start to trickle down his ear, so he ran back to the water hole to dip it in the water again. After a quick wash, he felt the blood stop flowing and he got back up again.

"Sorry about that," he said, "So! You ok then? I'm fine, don't worry about me. I'm much stronger now! Remember?" he said with a grin, flexing his muscles.

The cheeton turned her head away as if ashamed at the realization that she was blushing from embarrassment, but then she turned it back to gape at the wild dog.

He...Let her off that easy? For real?

NO one did that.

NO ONE.

Akina's mouth opened and she stared, wide-eyed as if in a daze. Her heart jumped to her throat when Kinyago flexed his tiny (BUT FIRM) muscles, not really understanding why she was feeling that way. But thinking about her own confused feelings wasn't important right then, she thought. There were more important things to be thinking about. She had gotten rather rough with Kinyago. She had even made him bleed. She bit off little parts of his freaking ear! And he had just...

Brushed it off?

Face turning hot, Akina bowed her head, glaring over her shoulder. She cleared her throat.

"Yeah, I'm--Alright. I remember." she said, clearing her throat halfway through due to her voice somehow choking up. She forced a laugh, trying to seem laid-back, but it came out sounding like the choked scream of a ghost. Akina sucked back her laughter with a wheeze, trying to take back the embarrassing sound, but her wheeze only succeeded in adding strangeness to the whole thing.

OH GODS.

Kin watched with a bit of a grin at the flustered Akina. Why was she acting to funny? When she cleared her throat he had to strain to her what she said next. And then we she started choking up halfway through he couldn't help himself and he let out a small laugh. "Sorry about that...." he started to say, but he was cut off when Akina started to do some kind of strange laughing/screaming/wheeze.

What was wrong with her? "You sure you're ok Akina?" he said, bending down close to her face to look her in the eyes, "You're acting really strange, not like you at all." he backed off a little bit and checked out his ear again. It had stopped bleeding, but it still hurt a little. He didn't let in bother him though, and he couldn't show Akina that it did. It would make her feel too badly.

"Lets go somewhere!" he said suddenly, "We can go have an adventure! You can pick where we..." he trailed off as suddenly, everything got really fuzzy. And thats when his eyelids got really heavy. "Guess I lost a little too much blood there..." he said softly before hitting the ground. Ear bleeding again.

Akina nearly stumbled onto her backside when Kinyago got that close to her. She was gasping on the inside, somehow shocked.

"YEAH! I'M FINE!" she said in an odd monotone. A fresh wave of embarrassment washed over her and she felt like a bundle of rocks had been placed on top of her, but at the same time she felt light-headed. What the heck was that odd feeling? She'd never experienced anything like it. Like little fluttering butterflies playing delicately in her stomach, alongside brutal, poisonous months of DOOM. Even as she sat there listening to Kinyago speak, it was like she was hearing his voice, but not registering his words. It was...Nice. But odd. Akina wasn't sure if she liked the feeling or not. But she didn't get to think about it for long.

"KI--KI--" Akina choked, sprinting forward to his side. She crouched down beside him and bared her teeth in an anguished frown. "Just rest for a minute." she said forcefully, suddenly feeling angry. "You're just a little antelope. Antelopes have to be careful, no matter how strong they think they are." she chided, trying to be slightly humorous to take the gloom out of the atmosphere. It wasn't working very well, however.

Akina's ears flopped back and she stared at Kinyago's bleeding ear. She had caused it all to happen. It had been her fault. But he had brought it on himself by--...Well...SHE DIDN'T KNOW. But it wasn't just her fault. She had to keep telling herself that. Besides, he had said he was okay just a minute ago.

Stupid antelope!

Slowly, hesitantly, Akina inched forward until her nose was next to the wild dog's wounded ear. Tentatively, she wiped the blood away with her tongue, shocked and confused by her own maternal actions.

She felt like she...Wanted...To take care of him?

WHAT THE HECK?!

Kin felt strange... he still couldn't see very well, and his head was spinning, but something had made him wake up. His ear felt strange, almost as if... someone was.... licking it? Kin opened one of his eyes and looked up to see... Akina licking his ear? Now this was strange. Akina didn't usually show any kind of emotion, and certainly not towards anyone.

"Akina..." he said softly, "What are you doing? I'm ok really, I'm strong now remember?" he said with a smile. "But if you really want to help, try and get some water, and maybe something to wrap my ear in so the bleeding stops please." he said quietly, before putting his head back down.

"Pfft," Akina spat, narrowing her eyes and getting to her feet. "Strong?" she echoed, giving him a belittling look. She stepped close, her shadow cast over him, a smirk lining her mouth. "If you were, you wouldn't have even let me get close enough to even BREATHE on your ear!" she said arrogantly. Ohh, how she loved to talk like that. It was such fun. She loved acting strong. But really, in that situation, it was a cover-up to make herself feel better. Her heart felt almost cold with some kind of emotion that she had decided was guilt. Her mouth was dry and her heart kept fluttering. He was bleeding, for crying out loud! And he looked like he was about to pass out!

As she was smirking, staring down at him, her mind was a flurry of fast-paced thoughts.

Something to help him? What could she do? What did she know? She didn't know things like that. Medicine stuffs weren't her forte at ALL. She had no idea--

WAIT! Herbs! Back by the den! A whole bunch grew there. Her dad told her that they helped heal flesh wounds. How, she had no idea. BUT SHE WOULD GET SOME!

"Fine, I'll help." she sighed, as if it was such a burden. She turned around. As soon as her face was out of Kinyago's sight, it turned into a desperate grimace. She sprinted fast, headed right for her den. The only thing on her mind was getting those herbs back.

And she was going to get them for sure.
