It was afternoon, a few days after meeting the male dog known as Ekevu. She smiled at the thought of seeing Oh Soggy One again. She was just amused by their conversation.
Right now, she had once again seen no other canines or felines. Sometimes she wondered if the apocalypse had happened, and she was the only one left.
She began a small trot, sniffing out a water source. She was rather thirsty now.
He blinked, following the scent of another. He knew that scent actually, which surprised the male. Giving a small yip, his tail wagged uncontrollably has he began a lope to catch up with the red female. Once he caught sight of her, he gave a small bark. “Hey, Aine! Wait up!” He called out, bouncing over to meet her.

At the sound of his voice Aine stopped. Her tail gave a wag or so as the male stood next to her. “Oh, hey there Kale. What are you up to today?” She smiled, continued to walk forward. It would be Kale’s choice if he wanted to follow her or not. “It seems like I haven’t seen you in years,” she joked. She saw him maybe a few moons ago, and to see him so soon meant
“Hey look, you remembered my name.” He chuckled, nipping at her shoulder lightly. “Oh you know, a little of this, a little of that.” He laughed, being secretive about things. “What about you? Going to have a little fun today? Exploring the lands?” He grinned. “Perhaps I can join you, if you would like some company.” Kale nodded as he spoke.

“Sure!” She yipped. “I always enjoy company now a days. And besides, since you know this land so well, you can show me around. For instance, where is the closet river to drink from?” Notice how she said river and not watering hole. She wanted a slow, but always moving water source that wouldn’t be so murky to drink from.
The male nodded quickly. A river eh? “Hmm..” He paused, thinking, before he continued to walk after her. “Well…there is one that’s a little ways away, maybe about a mile or so, if you don’t mind the travel. We could always get to know each other as well travel right? That way, I know about you, and you know about me.” He flashed a smile and a wink towards the red female. “Friends should know about their friends.”

“What is there more to know about?” She slowed her walk so Kale was in the lead now. “I mean, I’ve already told you about my family, you’ve already told me about your family, so what else is there?” She questioned, lifting an eyebrow at the male. “My star sign perhaps?” She laughed. She didn’t know what he star sign was though, so she should probably tell him the answer to that incase he asked.
“I don’t know, so don’t even ask it.” She grinned.
“Well…no…not necessarily star sign, but what are your likes, your interests and dislikes? Let’s see how much common ground we have together yes?” He laughed when she didn’t know her star sign. “Don’t worry miss Aine, I don’t know mine either. There, one common thing we have!” He grinned.
“I’ll start yes?” The masked male smiled. “I like hunting and traveling.” A hidden glint was revealed in his pink eyes. “And pretty crimson females.” If the male couldn’t be more obvious.

His last comment flew right over her head. “Well at least we have knowledge of not knowing when we were born together.” She laughed. “Oh really? I would think from your lack of not wanting to hunt the zebras you weren’t one to do that…?” She said quietly. “We should travel together!” She said suddenly. “I’m tired of getting lost, and since you know a lot about this land, then you can show me what it has to offer.
“At least until we both get tired of seeing each other.”
“Well, I didn’t want to hunt those zebras that day because it is too much for two let alone one wild dog to take on themselves. We need a good number for it, and therefore settled for a little easier target. Hey, you can’t tell me those hares weren’t a good meal. You get exercise and food all in one.”
“I could always use the company.” His smiled widened. “It gets rather lonely to travel on your own, you know?” Kale glanced at Aine. “I promise you though, I will not note you as a unit. You will be what you are. You will be Aine in my eyes.”
“Besides, I don’t think we’d get sick of each other.”

“Well it’s settled then. We will be traveling partners!” Her eyes focused forward. “It that the river you were talking about.” Her movement stopped, pointing towards the slow moving stream glimmering in the sunlight. She hadn’t seen a river in a while, perhaps she should get around more. “Come on!” She laughed, bounding to the water.
Once there, she pounced into the water, lapping up the clear water. There was a hint of mud in it, but not anything like the watering holes which countless number of animals would drink from daily.
“That’s” but he couldn’t finish the statement as she bounded off, “it…” He sighed, following quickly to the water. She must’ve been very excited to see the river, as he had never seen one express such playfulness in water before. Well, he had, a long time ago, but now not really.
“A little happy I see, aren’t you?” He laughed, splashing water at the female. His own head dipped into the water, sipping the cool liquid slowly. It ran down his parched throat. He hadn’t realized how thirsty he was at the moment.

“Heeey!” The female whined. “Don’t splash me!”
It really shouldn’t have mattered if the female was splashed by the male or not. She was already dripping wet. The dusty brown coat that hadn’t been cleaned in days was now gone, leaving a bright red with dark hues mixed into it. Kale would be able to see the full female’s markings if he couldn’t see them under the dirt.
His pink eyes widened. She was beautiful. Almost as beautiful as…Mboni. “Hey, where did Aine go?” He joked, referring to her now clean pelt. “She was just here a second ago!”
He sighed, his tail thumping on the ground. Now that they were in the water, what would be next? “So missy, where would you like me to show you next. The mountains are quite lovely this time of year, if you would like to travel far. It’s something you can’t miss, especially if you haven’t seen them before. Frozen water is casted at the peaks, it’s very cool!”

“The mountains?” The thought long and hard about it. “I think I could take a few weeks or so off from my normal routine to go there.” She grinned. It wasn’t like she was doing much these days anyways. Besides, traveling was on her. She jumped out of the water, shaking any excess water off her, before talking again. “I am ready whenever you are sir Kale!” She smiled, tail just awagging.
She’d be soon known as Aine – the wild dog traveler. At least there was a ring to that instead of just plain old Aine. She liked that.
