Mareike sat on a freezing cold bench. Cold becuase it as made of ice. Winter was upon the land and the annual Gaia snow and ice festival had begun a few days before. Here in a huge field was a world of ice and snow crafted by great sculptures all over Gaia. There were benches and towers and steps leading up to a real snow mansion you could walk around in. Clear and coloured ice sculptures of all shapes and sizes dotted the landscape and even Mareike was impressed by full scale horses and carriages and small detailed green ice shrubs.
The girl had been curious about the festival and with warnings from Nickle and Penny that breaking things becuase she found them unattractive would land her in trouble with the law she had gone. As of yet she hadn't found anything that didn't interest her for one reason or another.

Riulve walked along side her daughter. They made an odd pair for the girl didn’t wear shoes, but she was bundled up otherwise, except for the odd furry coverings to keep the soles of her reptilian feet covered and safe from harm. The girl’s guardian, a woman of 6’5 height and white hair had worn nothing other than a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and tennis shoes. The pair stopped near where other girl sat upon the cold benches and began to converse.
“Here is a pouch of money,” Riulve said carefully as she dropped the pouch into the girl’s hand, “you have fun, and just be careful. We meet back here in a couple of hours. Don’t be afraid to seek me out if you get too cold.”
Wynni accepted the money with a faint nod, “Okay mom!” she reached up and hugged the tall woman about the midriff and then released after she had been patted upon the head. Riulve waved and then left Wynni to her own devices.

It was just after the girl's guardian left that Mareike spotted the other. It was the glint of sunlight off the metal bits of her wings that caught the older girl's attention.Another facility child, she thought, and this one she shared a parent with. The maroon skinned girl had long since forgotten the name of the diligence angel but she recognized the fact that children with her DNA had those exact wing styles and she'd never seen them elsewhere.
Slowly so as not to scared the smaller kid she walked over to the girl. Note quite certain what to say. Starting conversations had never been her strong point unless it was to throw an insult.

Never fear, Wynni seemed glad to take the reigns of conversation starting, that is once she had noticed that the other girl was heading toward her. The tailed-and-winged girl turned toward the approaching form and offered a friendly smile (for friendly is all she knew how to be) and offered up a wave. “Hiya, you here by yourself, too?” she queried with a slight tilt of her head.
The girl thought that it was exciting to be left on her own yet again. Wynni felt that being given so much trust was something akin to growing up and it felt wonderful to feel so grown and adult. “My name is Wynni,” she introduced herself straight away so as to not make things any more awkward than they need to be.

Mareike neglected to wave back but did answers the girl's question. " Yeah I'm alone" she hadn't quite been in the mood for adult supervision at the moment. " Wynni is nice, is it short for something?" It sounded like one of those short form names. " I'm Mareike."
The older girl ruffled her wings a bit rearranging feather placement to better keep the cool breeze that was blowing from making the wings too cold.

Wynni nodded a bit as she offered up her full name, "Wynnifred. It is an okay name, I guess, but I prefer to be called Wynni." She said with an indifferent shrug, "Can call me whatever you like, I can't stop you." Her tail tip twitched back and forth and a small shiver went up her spine. Goodness it was cold!
Still, a chance to make a new friend ought not be wasted!
"Wanna go get some hot cocoa?" The girl asked curiously.

Mareike laughed at the little girl " I'll call you Wynni" it was only right to use the one the kid liked." A warm drink sounds like a good idea" she agreed." I hope they have marshmallows." Mareike loved to see the little white blobs of sugar floating in her drink.

Wynni walked with the older girl giving a small giggle, "Okay! Glad to meet you Mareike." She said cheerfully as they walked toward the Hot Cocoa provider's booth. She looked thoughtful for a moment.
"I am sure they have marshmallows, if not then it ought to be a crime." She said sagely and it appeared as if the younger girl was quite serious about this particular sentiment.
