Yeah, I doubt it will come up in many versus threads, but I know it better than anything else, so I might as well give it a shot.

Description

The Witchblade in it's natural form usually appears as a gauntlet in appearance, metallic green, brown, or steel in colour with several gems on the back of the palm. It has also looked like a gauntlet in the image of a Japanese dragon (Witchblade: Obakemono).

The Witchblade itself is a semi sentient symbiote that selects it's host which has always been female, except in the case of Ian Nottingham (The Darkness 10) for reasons that remain unclear. In order to announce one's candidacy for the host of the Witchblade they must put the gauntlet on. If it accepts, it will bind to the host. If not, it will sever and incinirate the wearer's hand.

According to historical records, the Witchblade chooses one host per human generation, however there have been three seperate hosts since Detective Sara Pezzini became the current host. The other hosts were Ian Nottingham and Lara Croft. The late Kenneth Irons and Danette Boucher both attempted and failed to absorb the Witchblade from Sara.

History

The origin of the Witchblade and it's true nature are unknown. The earliest known appearance was in Ancient Egypt (Tales of the Witchblade #7). Further confusing it's origin, the Witchblade has been attributed to and weilded by avatars of several gods including the Egyptian god of the underworld Anubis.

Stats For the Witchblade

Intellect: Semi-sentient. The WB has shown the ability to speak to it's host and make it's wishes known. It also has the ability to identify opponents that it has faced before and suggest how to best fight them or even to flee if necessary. It is highly adaptable and will evolve itself to best deal with it's surroundings such as streamlining itself for underwater movement and combat (Fathom #14).

Strength: Unknown and largely untested. The Witchblade is not known for feats of incredible strength although it can easily tear a human apart using several tentacle like extensions.

Agility: The gauntlet is hyper flexible and able to contract and expand itself at amazing speed, changing it's structure by the second. (Witchblade #32)

Speed: The Witchblade has not been clocked but has been described as moving extremely fast, in one instance it was able to extend and retract several razor sharp tendrils so fast that they could only be seen when recorded on film with a shutter speed far beyond current technology. (The Witchblade/Dark Minds crossover). The gauntlet has also reacted fast enough to protect it's host from a point blank gunshot on several occasions.

Durability: The gauntlet is quite literally indestructable, surviving even the death of it's host (by strangulation). (Tales of the Witchblade # cool When the gauntlet is extended into full body armor to protect the host it is completely impenetrable. In addition the gauntlet gives the host a healing factor to rival that of Wolverine.

Endurance: The Witchblade has never shown any evidence of slowing or tiring in any way, stopping only either when commanded or to mutate.

Powers: When attached to it's host, the Witchblade retracts into a small bracelet which is considered to be it's dormant state. It is able to expand and morph into any melee weapon the host desires, which usually takes the form of a sword that appears to be identical to a mundane version of the weapon it is mimicking to the naked eye. It's preferred method of attack is to extend several thin razor sharp tentacles, penetrate the target and tear it apart.

The Witchblade also has a fire blast ability which can be focused to the liking of the host from the width of a 9mm bullet to approximately a foot. The blast itself incinirates most organic matter on contact.

The Witchblade has precognative abilities similar to Spiderman that allows it to warn the host of impending attack, although not as swiftly as Spiderman's.
