User ImageThe day had been a slow one. Akorbaste realized anew why she longed to leave Llurth Dreir. Hmmph. She knew she was still young, but that only fueled her plans and desires. This feeling of restlessness was irritating, though Lolth surely had her in her favor still. Maybe sooner than later she could do something. She could talk her Matron Dab'raxae into allowing her to initiate a branch of the House in another city. It would be excellent to fortify their trading reach. Before that could happen, Akorbaste knew that she must prove several things. Not the least of which was the ability to support and protect the expansion herself. It would be shameful to simply beg Mother to ship out some of her brothers, random relatives, and guards.

She sat frowning on a carved bench by the wayside of the path which led down towards the temple. From here she had a good view of the sculptures that surrounded the entryway. She could also watch who came and went, who stopped for who, who avoided who. The drow's eyebrows furrowed and her golden eyes darkened. None of them were going to stop her. She had completed her priestess training and proven her sisters wrong. Lolth had taken their first sister, but Akorbaste was determined to never lose her goddess's favor. Why that had happened to her family was still a matter of contention and rumor.

With steely determination to lift her spirits, Akorbaste clipped sharply down the path on her tall heels and right across the open paved area past the temple. Maybe she wouldn't go home after all. Last night's dream was no simple dream; her very bones knew it was a vision of good favor. The memory spread like the intoxicating feeling of dealing with a heretic..

Akorbaste's pleasant daydreaming faltered. A familiar voice rang out with her name and she swiveled around, her thin ivory skirt swirling about her long dark legs. Nedxena.

"Not going to the temple, sister?" Nedxena stood tall and proud in her mage's robes.

The priestess's face did not change with emotion. "Perhaps you should tend to your own business first. I can't imagine you came all this way following me."

"Oh, well don't worry about that. Mother has sent me out to check on a delivery, there may have been some trouble with the last batch. " Delivery of slaves, she meant.

"If you'd like to grovel for my help, by Lolth don't let me stop you."

Nedxena's rattling laugh sounded like the wretched girl had a throat of gravel. "You aren't a fool, stop talking like one. The Matron knows who to turn to in times of trouble."

As Nedxena left after the nearly friendly exchange of insults (as lighthearted as they ever got), Akorbaste considered her sister's backhanded compliment. You aren't a fool. Indeed she wasn't. The young priestess went back to her ambling walk deeper into the dark heart of Llurth Dreir with her hopes still high. Her fortunes would change today. But for the better?

Malag'aun sighed as he walked about the city. Which city was he in this time? Never really much did he remember where he was. At his age he should have had more training, or training at all. He was the second son of the poor house he had come from. At magic... he was good, actually very good. But it was never a high priority of his family to get him formal training. So all he just dabbled some in what magic he could figure out.

One day he had left his house wandering, and never went back. Malag decided he could have better chances finding another house somewhere to take him in. One that would appreciate his skill in magic and illusions, and give him a chance. Though he did not know how to find someone to take him in. Truly, he would have to impress a daughter of some house, an in.

So now he walked, aimlessly through some city he did not know. In one hand he twirled a clover shaped staff. As is spun, it appeared to change sizes, from no longer than his arm to longer than his height. What little he could do with his magic, he knew he could do so much more.

Akorbaste was fairly distracted in her thoughts as she walked through the busy winding streets of Llurth Dreir. Finding herself in a hustling crowd, the priestess finally raised her eyes to take note of her surroundings. She rolled her eyes as a young drow, warrior type, passed a little too closely with her burden of weaponry. Another reason not to wander aimlessly. The next thing that caught her eye was a dark twirling staff ahead. No, not twirling exactly. The clover shaped object was moving alright, but also transforming.

A male was holding the staff. Akorbaste attempted to judge, making a guess about what kind of house he could be from. It was sort of second nature. His little trick wasn't overly impressive maybe, but so far none of her own brothers or sisters had taken up any kind of illusionist practice and Akorbaste found herself very curious. She didn't have any plans in mind at all, deciding to follow her curiosity for once and see what came of it.

Ahead, the young priestess could tell they were reaching a broad intersection in the road. She slipped closer to the figure as the crowd started clearing.

Malag'aun continued the transforming of the staff he was holding. How he longed to do real magic and not simple little tricks like this. He was better than this he knew, he could be so much more powerful. Though here he was walking through some town, still without a house and little schooling of the ways of magic.

So the male walked, down whatever street it was. The staff disappeared from his hand and reappeared attached to his belt. It looked as if it never had moved from its spot. None really took notice of his little tricks, as he expected, again no one was interested in the skills in magic he could provide. If only he could get the proper schooling!

Akorbaste watched the male's tricks. The magic wasn't anything too complex she knew. All drow are judged by their appearance. Given this stranger's appearance, Akorbaste could only think that he was either an apprentice only or not from a strong house. At least she had never encountered a great mage before whom would be so casually wandering about the streets performing tricks.

No one else paid him any attention, but there was just something about his aimless attitude that made her curious. The staff suddenly stopped it's motion and was attached at his waist. She was finally close enough to him now to speak.

The priestess cleared her throat, taking a step closer, "So, illusionist, can you do more than parlor tricks?" The street wasn't overly noisy. Akorbaste trusted he would know she was speaking to him.

After his staff had reappeared onto his belt was when he felt the eyes on him. Just one other drow of the few passerbys. Perhaps someone had taken notice of him for once. If not told from his dress, the last house (not even ranked) he was with had him perform tricks of a jester. The clothing free, he didn't mind it anyway.

With the closeness of the one who was watching him known, his own steps stopped. He turned slightly, the female was clearly a priestess.

This could be Malag'aun's chance! A sly grin appeared on his face. "Of course, mistress."

"I know a few interesting ones." Before he spoke those words, he seemingly disappeared and was behind and to her side.

"So I see!" Akorbaste smiled and turned her head as the male quickly reappeared on her other side. Hopefully he could stay this amusing for at least a day or two. (If only his looks were no illusion as well!) She never liked to make plans for very long. You never could tell with a male if they would be worth keeping around or not, but she always had high hopes. Though, she had to admit, she was already getting ahead of herself! But who said no to a priestess?

"What is with this outfit of yours...?" Her bright golden eyes roamed up and down his form, considering now that he looked more of an entertainer than a mage. The priestess's voice lingered at the end, hoping he would offer his name.

Malag'aun grinned slightly, this priestess seemed to be interested in him in some sort of fashion. He lived to serve, to some extent, after all he was a male. Wanting to make a good impression, he bowed slightly. "Ah, well it is a ... reminder of my last job." Never given the chance for any real training, his skills had been reduced to little tricks.

But perhaps one day fortune could change that. "I am Malag'aun, I was a jester of sorts. Who might you be mistress?"

Akor noticed, of course, that he spoke of his last job. He must have left or lost the job. If he was still wearing those jester clothes then he hadn't found anything new and likely had no house. All the better.

"Well met, Malag'aun. I am Akorbaste, of House Oussekt'ar." It was possible he knew the House name. Their House was of a respectable rank, but it was even more highly known for their role in the slave trading business. Sometimes the priestess felt a little tired of their reputation. They were not one of those proud houses known for producing mages or skilled assassins. No, the Oussekt'ars were known for wealth and a heartless business mentality. At least wealth was always important.

"You don't look too busy today. Were you headed somewhere?"

The mage didn't have much, he never had much, but the clothes on his back (literally). The house name was familiar sounding. "Thank you mistress. Your house sounds familiar, but I am not from this city." He had heard it few times in passing but as he said, was fairly new to this city.

Malag shrugged. "No where, or no where in particular. But I'd have to say that here is where I was heading. I am not keeping you from anything, am I mistress Akorbaste?"

Akorbaste was happy to hear he was new to Llurth Dreir. Fresh blood and surely some her sisters had not tainted! It was vexing the way they spoiled everything, too pleased with themselves for being the eldest. Many a decent male had been sent packing by Malune who unfortunately was a very good and intimidating assassin. The Oussekt'ar household was not always inviting with Malune around, and it left the Priestess itching for the day when she would hold more power in the House. Akorbaste fixed it in her mind to not worry about her sisters today. They had given her wide berth lately and she hoped it continued.

"No Malag'aun," she looked at him with curious golden eyes, "Not even a male such as yourself is capable of keeping me from my business, if I really had something to do!" The priestess laughed and shook her head, "I have plenty of time to myself today and would welcome some company."

He was... excited to be speaking with a female of a notable house, the only houses that would knew were important one. For who would note the names of lesser. Perhaps this was the chance he had been waiting for, a real house too.

Glad, very glad, that she hadn't anything to do. To interrupt the business of a priestess was something he didn't want to do. "Well then, I am glad that I keep you not from anything." Malag smiled at her laugh. "I would offer company, if that was what you wished." Especially anything to get into favor of this female, and an attractive one at that!

"I would enjoy that," Akorbaste looked pleased at Malag'aun's words, "I suppose we need to find something to do! I've just been window shopping and walking. Have you been in Llurth Dreir long?"

The priestess's mind was spinning. What to do? It would be relaxing in a way to show someone around the city. There wasn't always a chance to spend the day free of any pressing obligations. So many things going on in a drow city, there were easily a dozen distractions to stumble upon. This day was looking up. Staying away from the House could really do some good.

"I am glad mistress Akorbaste that you would." How interesting that just a short walk through some city he hadn't been to could turn out. Not that he was complaining, he was beginning to like this city, which ever one it was.
Llurth Dreir, that was it. Malag shook his head. "I haven't been here for a long while, only once too I think. Though I remember little of the city." Well he knew notable places and of course houses. One did not travel to a new city without knowing of the houses, he did not want to make the mistake and offend the wrong drow.

Ideas ran through Akorbaste's head. She could think of one thing they could do, but that would be dull of her. Males got boring too quickly if you used them and dumped them like her impatient sister did! Malune had not a bone of restraint or sense in her body. Akorbaste looked at males carefully, for a priestess in her position one had to be wary of letting just anyone get too close to you. She didn't like to act carelessly. At the very least, she liked to be more confident in her personal safety before allowing a stranger into the House. But having someone to be loyal to her and not to the Matron was appealing.. Her mother was not going to live forever, and it would be her turn to step up soon enough.

She wondered what Malag could do that would be useful to her House. The priestess gave a devious smile as her eyes lit up with an idea, "There are a lot of things to do in the city, though I think I know a place you would probably enjoy."
