It turned out that Kaimi was in her class. She just hardly ever showed up, Kash thought with a hint of irritation. But! she added to herself, she was there that day!

It was her chance to observe the other girl and try to figure out how to surprise her. She lifted her hand to her mouth, sucking on the ring pop she had bought that weekend at the mall. Cherry, yum!

She peeked around the corner of the classroom that Kaimi was in and tried to look inconspicuous.

Kaimi gave a sigh and jiggled her leg restlessly. Integers and fractions danced across the chalk bored and made her head hurt. Finally, Kaimi raised her hand for the bathroom pass and beat such a hasty retreat from the classroom that she nearly bowled Kashmira over.

"Oh! God, I'm sorry! Are you okay?" Kaimi asked fairly sheepishly. She hadn't expected someone else to be out there. That might make escaping from math class a little trickier.

"Shhh!" Kash said, bringing a finger to her mouth and motioning for her to follow. The last thing she wanted was to be caught skipping, even if it was study hall time for her!

She headed for the bathroom, expecting the other girl to follow. She forgot about her mission entirely and barely refrained from running as a classroom door closed behind them.

oh, good. It looked like someone else was cutting class too. That meant she probably wouldn't be ratted out, seeing as how she had no intentions to go back to her class. Kaimi had been exceedingly lucky up to this point, she was fairly certain her teachers just thought she was an exceptionally sickly girl.

Shushing obediently, Kaimi followed the silver haired girl into the bathroom, her heart beating hard in her chest and a little grin playing across her chest. The adrenaline of almost being caught was another enjoyable thing about not being in class where she belonged.

Kash sighed loudly as the door closed behind them. "You almost got me busted for sure!" she complained. "And then Lindy woulda' gotten mad and told my Papa, and Papa woulda given me that LOOK and he and Mama woulda argued about whose fault it is that I'm like I am and--"

She grinned. "I woulda been forgotten cuz they like to fight," she finished. "I'm Kashmira, who're you?"

Kaimi blinked at the outburst, and then grinned back at the girl as she introduced herself. "I'm Kaimi. Sorry I almost got you caught, I didn't know you were out there. I just HAD to get out of math. I hate math." She made a face. "How come you're skipping?"

"It's study hall," she said, as if that explained everything. And it did, to her. Who would stay in study hall unless they had to?" She dropped down on the bench in the small changing area used for before gym. The bathroom stank horribly, she thought, her sensitive nose wrinkling in response. But it was still better than study hall.

"Isn't it cold for all those flowers you're wearing?" she asked curiously.

"Oh," Kaimi touched the flower at her head. "They never wilt or die or anything. I'm not sure why, though. You'd think they'd get cold and shrivel up." Her grin widened a little. "But they dont. Geez, it smells awful in here." Kaimi rarely bothered to go to gym class, though she tolerated it better than lots of her other classes. "There has to be somewhere better to hide than in the locker room."

Kashmira thought about it, then shook her head reluctantly. "Not that I know about," she admitted. "But I haven't been in school long."

She brought her legs up, hugging them to her chest, her fingers playing with the baggy knit stockings she was wearing up to her knees. They were black. Then she sucked on her ringpop for a moment. "Hey, why don't I ever usually see you around?" she asked.

Kaimi's expression turned mildly sheepish. But she was a more or less honest girl who tended to give more or less honest answers. "I don't like school very much." She explained. "And my mom works a lot. Or at least, she did. So she doesn't really pay a lot of attention as long as it looks like I'm going to school. Mostly I hang out at the beach or the park instead. Except..." She frowned unhappily. "With this weather I cant get around on my bike as well. So I'm kind of stuck at school for the winter."

It seemed very lonely, Kashmira thought, a worried look on her face. She felt guilty for all she had now, a sister, two loving parents that doted on her. "Oh," she said finally. "But... do you at least go play with someone?" she asked.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 2:18 pm

"Sometimes." Kaimi said cheerfully. "A lot of the time there are other people at the park or at the beach and sometimes I play with them. Sometimes I sit and read or meditate, but a lot of the time I just explore." She didn't really find her life that lacking. Then again, not everyone had the constant presence of two rather opinionated voices in their head. Kaimi was never alone, even when she wanted to be. "How long have you been going to school here?" She asked, feeling kind of weird just talking about herself.

"About a month," Kash said. "We grew up. My sister and me, I mean. We're twins."

She looked at the flowers that the other girl wore, thoughtfully. "But at least you make it smell a little better in here," she added, licking her ringpop.

Kaimi giggled. "You have a twin? Thats so cool! I always thought it would be neat to be a twin. Can you, like, talk to each other in your heads and know when the other one is sad and stuff?"

"Nah," Kash said. "We don't talk through our minds or anything, but we share dreams a lot! And it's easy to tell when one of us is sad. Our tails droop."

Her tail twitched, as if agreeing to that statement.
