Does anyone here play a Bass Clarinet?

Every year there is a Band fest, where about 10 people from about 25-50 schools come together and play at a collage.

My band teacher really wanted me to get in, and since I didnt make it on my Bb Clarinet last year, she signed me up for a bass clarinet also.

I never played the Bass clarinet before, But my band teacher said I could try it out sometime.

How long have you been playing clarinet? It is sometimes hard to switch to bass clarinet after developing your clarinet ombishure. So my advice is, switch to bass clarinet, get used to everything, (especially if you've never played it!) and maybe try for it next year. Because if they are only letting 10 people in the band, chances are you won't get in if you've only played for a few months.
I love bass clarinet, and play it around six hours a day, so, you probably shouldn't just take my opinion of how fricking awesome it is.

i play the bass clarinet!

at first, it is pretty hard going from Bb to bass clarinet because it takes tons more air.
but after you've got it down it's amazing and so enjoyable to play!

i looove playing it so much that i'm dropping Bb clarinet together and
playing bass in concert and marching band...

if there's a good bit of time before that band fest, you might have a
chance if you're a real strong player biggrin

I have been playing for 4 years now, and I am more advanced for my age. I think I would do pretty well on it. My band teacher really wants me to try it

Try it.

I think it the same fingerings, like flutes can learn piccolo.
It's not a ENTIRELY different instrument, you'll just need to use more air..

Ignore me. xD

I'd talk to a Bass Clarinet player.

Are you just doing this for this one festival or?

I would LIKE to play it in concert band also. My BD just put me as a "Bb and Bass Clarinet player" Before it was sent off.

There's an entire sticky for clarinets in the woodwind/brass subforum. Go there.
