Songjewel sat down behind her desk and nodded.

"Yes, my name is Songjewel. You may call me that, or Song if you prefer. Please, have a seat. So..." Song glanced down at some papers in front of her. "You are interested in our Adopt-a-Plant program. Saw the add in the paper, I presume? I should tell you that you are the first of four people who've been chosen to start this program off.

"I'm the head of the program, so I've taken the liberty of checking your history. I feel you will be an excellent caretaker, so let's talk a little about what brings you here. What is it about taking care of a plant in Barton arboretum that attracts you? Surely a pet that would interact with you, run around and play fetch and such, would be more companionable?"

Song watched Lily carefully as she said this. None of the new parents had been told about the plant sprites yet, so it was very important to see how they would react to more lively pets.

"Yes, I saw the ad. It was interesting. I figured that this would teach me to take better care of the plants around my house. They usually end up dying. But with this someone will yell at me if I don't take care of it, plus people will see it." She continued on to explain the question that followed.

"Well , I really don't want a pet that will look at me and bark. I mean, I don't want something that's not gonna understand what I say other then 'good' and 'bad'. Plus, plants help me calm down. I like talking to them to... Now you probably think I'm strange." She laughed as she explained that she either wanted something that would talk to her or something that wouldn't talk at all.

Song's eyes lit up as she smiled kindly. "That's wonderful! And don't worry about killing your plant; I've got just the one. It's hardy and persistent. I'm sure she'll love you. And I talk to plants too...all the time in fact."

Song scribbled something on the paper in front of her. "Now then, you realize you will be expected to come in every few days and check on your plant?"

She reached under her desk and pulled out a pocket-sized leather-bound book, handing it to Lily. The pages inside were lined, but otherwise empty.

"I would like you to keep a journal of your plant's progress as well. I want to know how our program is working. Can you do that?"

"Oh good, a plant that doesn't die easy!" She laughed and clapped a little to herself. "Yes, I know. I think it's a good thing I have to come in every couple days. I'll probably be calmer."

Lily grabbed the book from her and opened it. She looked at it, flipping through the page guess to make sure. "Yeah, I can keep a journal. I've never done that for a plant, but I'll try it."

"Oh, you don't have to write a lot. Just anything you feel like mentioning; you can keep track of the growth, and...well, I'm sure you'll come up with something interesting to write about." Song handed Lily a folder with a small photo paper-clipped to the inside. The tab said "Poison-Ivy."

"This is the one I think you'll do well with. I know, it's generally considered a menace, but it's a very important plant to wildlife. Plus, it's hearty! This is your copy of the files; we've got the original, and that will stay here. Feel free to add anything you want to the file. We'd love some copies of any pictures you take," she added.

Pushing herself up from her chair, Songjewel ran a hand through her hair and chewed thoughtfully on her lip. "Let's see, I believe this one's down on the Hill. Not too far away. Let me check on the list and see if anyone else has arrived. This way."

Ushering her out of her office, Song led Lily back down the hallway and stuck her head into the waiting room. There were two women sitting there quietly, and Natasha munching on skittles while her hands flew over pages of paperwork, leaving ink trails everywhere.

"Looks like they have; would you mind waiting a little bit while I talk to the other parents? It would be easier if I could take all of you out at once. Most of the plants are in the same area. It would be a good opportunity to read through Poison-ivy's file," she suggested.

"I'll be sure to give you any pictures, though I don't know if I'll take any." She looked down at the folder, glancing at the tab. "So I get Poison-Ivy? I guess it's a good thing I'm not illergic, huh?"

"No, I don't mind at all." She smiled as she walked back into the waiting room. I'll have to do some research on this, she thought to herself. She really didn't know much about Poison-Ivy other then it makes you itchy, has three leaves, and that most this it's annoying.

Opening the folder and looking through it, looking closely at the picture. It was quite a pretty little plant, the whole one leaf plant a bright green color.
