Myles had brought the music box on his walk.

He didn't know why. It wasn't as if it was jewel encrusted or even very exciting. But he couldn't help but feel that since everything else in his house was so usually thirdhand rubbish, he should really try to keep this, this THING safer. After all, one never really knew, did one? He looked at the nondescript box and sighed. He should really have more faith in humanity. He adjusted his bowtie. He liked when he was able to get his hands on 19th century costumes. They were much more comfortable than Shakespearian ones.

Shin walked about the streets, wearing a long layered dress with pale blues and purples silks sown in to white fabric, the layers under the first layer of the dress getting to be darker and darker, mixes of blues and purples. It was designed to look like the wind coming to life. There where even colored beads sown in to the long beautiful dress of different kinds.

He had on white beaded high heels and nylons on his legs, white ribbons from the high heels going up his legs and tying about them until knotted in to bows long after his knees where none would see.. unless they where looking up his dress, which swooped down almost past his ankles.

The sleeves had a ruffled look about them and a little puffed out, ending a little before his wrists. On his hands where long simple white gloves the hugged his hands, a silver bracelet with charms on it on one hand and a silver ring with a simple clear diamond set in it on the other hand. Around his neck was a long choker that hugged and hid away most of his neck with its white and wispy gray lace with a silver locket hanging in the middle of it.

His hair was tied in a pony tail, soft and long enough to barely keep from touching the ground as he walked. It was colored in such a way it was impossible to really tell if some was died black or some was bleached white. It looked so natural and healthy though that it didn't really seem like such things where used. Though he was human he looked to have just stepped out of a fairy tail. He looked like a beautiful women from another era, lost from her time and place.

But he was not a women, or from a different era. He had on a perfume that smelled of vanilla and no contacts covering his beautiful almost seemingly unnatural green eyes. Yet he was only human with no supernatural powers of any sort unless you counted beauty as such a thing, or perhaps the colors of his hair and eyes?

His large eyes spotted someone as he walked by, long beautiful lashes fluttering. He spoke, voice feminine, gentle, and quiet. "Good evening sir."

Myles looked up from his box as a voice pierced the crisp evening air. There appeared to be a mysterious and enchanting woman addressing him in a whispery, melodious voice.

Cool.

Scrambling up to make himself look somewhat attractive, despite the fact that the costume he was currently wearing was too large, he responded in true Myles Jones fashion. "Why," he said, making a stab at suaveness, "Good evening to you." The overall effect was of a scarecrow making a pass at a porcelain doll. The feminine looking music box didn't help, either. He made a concerted effort to hide it behind his back. Coughing violently to distract the young lady in front of him, he then looked back at her and tipped his hat before he remembered he wasn't wearing one.

Smooth, real smooth.

Shin smiled at the man, watching him with curious large green eye. How he acted was just so cute he had to giggle. If only his boyfriend could be that charming. Even if the mans clothes where off and costume he still caught the mans eyes. If only he had the nerves he would go up and kiss him. But he also had a boyfriend. Well not currently his boyfriend anymore but.. he didn't want to do anything he would regret later. Still though, why should that man hold any power over him when they where no longer together? Well... "My name is Shin Takano, its a pleasure to meet a cute man with some manors."

"Shin Takano." said Myles slowly, trying out the foreign name on his tongue. Weird name for a girl. Nevertheless, it was pretty. "Shining shimmering Shin sleeping silent in a silvery sphere of superlative splendor." He frowned. "Needs work, but alas, the poetic mood simply isn't seizing be this evening, I'm afraid." He grinned to the elegant lady. "Nevertheless, we must always exercise the mind, no? My name is Myles Jones. Charmed, Shin Takano."

He tilted his head, probably causing the hat he was not wearing to fall off, and stroked his chin. "Alas, I suppose if I must be cute then I shall resign to it. I long for the day I am dashing though." He looked down at his clothes. "I suppose it's rather hard to be dashing in a suit too large. One day I shall get around to mending it." The last attempt he had made at mending something was now in a thrift store. It used to be a shirt. Now it looked rather like a pair of pants for a multi-legged alien.

"Yes, its Japanese for heart." Shin spoke, smiling at Myles, "I was born in Japan and raised by my mother and she taught me the best as she could. I suppose that's how I ended up learning to be a women when I should have been more interested in acting like a man.." It was true, he couldn't deny facts. Still, it didn't explain why he loved wearing dresses so much only how it started. It didn't explain his love for men ether. He grabbed a bit of his fine dress, fiddling with the fabric between his fingers a little as his cheeks darkened with pink colors. "I do like poetry though.. you're quite the flatterer.." He could feel himself get a little nervous before he took the plunge and.. kissed one of Myles cheeks. Boy or not he was interested. "Its not the clothes that will make a man dashing.. rather the attitude behind it."

Myles smiled. "Heart, a lovely meaning. The symbol for all human longing and passion wrapped up into one name." However, when he heard about Shin's childhood, he frowned. "That's terrible." he said. "I don't think you should act like a man if you don't want to. No matter what womens' right activists are saying, a woman can act feminine without being submissive." Honestly, culture these days. People rebelling and yelling and blaming it on the Man. Myles didn't understand it. In Mylesland, you didn't conform or break away, you just lived, lived as much as possible.

Then she kissed him.

Whoooo-eee, was there no rhapsody so pleasing, no melody so pure as a maiden's brief kiss? It was as sweet as sunshine and twice as warm, and made being a starving writer worth it. There was nothing more pleasing to Myles than to see a young lady flattered by his poetic muse, even if it wasn't in top form. Myles' face split into a grin. "You know," he said amiably, "I like the way you think. I suppose I can be dashing, can't I? It's all how you look at it."

Shin blinked, womens rights? Oh dear.. this happened a lot. "No.. I'm a boy... Its just my father moved back to his American life after he found out my mother was sick so I was just raised by my mother.. She only knew how to act like a women and I enjoyed it too much.." Well maybe that wasn't so much the crime as being gay, or perhaps both. He would never be allowed to adopt. He wanted it though, a child of his own. He nodded to the question of dashing though. It was true, but only he knew why though. "True dashing isn't designed in stores.. true inner beauty can't be bought. The most beautiful men can be horribly ugly inside. My last boyfriend would be a good example, a supermodel who always has fine clothes on him.. but a monster underneath and inside. You are very sweet inside and beautifully creative, a gentleman."

Myles blinked.

Then he accepted it. As a playwright, he had met much weirder people. Hell, he had made up much weirder people. Myles was an easygoing man. If he met Godzilla he'd ask it how the weather was up there. "Hey, that's fine by me." Myles said casually. "I mean, sometimes I run out of clothes and I have to wear a dress, I understand where you're coming from. Pretty, nice breeze between your legs, bing a lady isn't half bad." Of course, it wasn't something Myles would necessarily want to do ALL the time, but he could relate to it in others. "Victorian dresses though, those chafe a bit. I admire Victorian womens' perseverance greatly." His friends dissuaded him from wearing dresses. but if the option was between that or Myles walking around au naturale, they knew exactly what option they were going to choose.

A grin suffused Myles' face. "Mmm, yeah. Yeah, that's right! You have to BE dashing, not look dashing. That's what counts." He closed his eyes and nodded satisfiedly. This guy made sense! "That boyfriend of yours sounds pretty frightening though. Sorry to hear that, man." Frowning, Myles tried to think of something he could do to take the lad's mind off it. He remembered the music box.

Well, he was pretty sure the other man wasn't a vicious criminal. Sure, why not show it to him? After all music soothed the soul and healed the heart, didn't it? He pulled it out and wound it up. Soon it was playing once more, that sweet melody he couldn't quite place, that tune that made one think of clean sheets and the smell of flowers and summer sunlight.

"It would be nice to be a women. If I wasn't so attached to my parts I would be one in an instant." Shin didn't just wear dresses because they had air or space. He wore all kinds of dresses, even the constricting clothing that makes one wonder how a person walks around in it without ripping something or falling down. "I don't wear dresses for comfort, most dresses are actually incredibly constricting, like the one I have on now." He supposed in the end he was quite the strange one. "To me they aren't just about beauty or comfort.. but I just wouldn't feel like myself with pants on.. but in a bad bad way. I've worn dresses I could barely move or breathe in and really quite enjoyed it but even the most comfortable looking pants and made from the softest of fabrics frighten me tremendously... I suppose it feels like.. A horrible cage"

That was quite an ironic analogy wasn't it? But it was true. He may have felt trapped and restricted by his current lifestyle.. Lonely, worthless, childless, timid.. But.. "If I dressed like a man and cut my hair then.. a lot of my problems would go away. But.. that would be impossible for me to do that.. if I tried to force myself then in the end.. I think a large part of me would wither and die." Maybe he more then just thought it. Somewhere inside himself he knew it was an impossibility for him to be happy and look like a man. It wasn't what made him happy, or a part of who he was. He was such a horrible thing wasn't he? But that's who he was. That's why so many people didn't notice him at all. That's why he had a job where all he had to do was hide behind a computer screen and type away.

Though he couldn't help but to smile and nod. "Well.. that's why hes an ex boyfriend. I would take someone who is dashing over someone who just looks dashing any day though. A dashing gentleman is so hard to find these days, you're quite the rare treasure to find." Not that he could complain about it though. When women fought for their rights all the curious things men did for women to be a gentleman had been swatted in to their faces. When Myles pulled out a music box though he felt surprised. Why did he carry a music box around? But.. it had such a sweet melody. "How beautiful. Its almost like the box has its own life singing away, almost..."

Myles nodded. "Don't force yourself to be something you don't wanna." he advised. "I did it once. They made me clean things." He shuddered. "I'm not cut out for that kinda stuff though." He stretched out on the bench comfortably.

Myles laughed. "I would hardly say I'm a rare find at all. I know many gentlemen in my line of work, a more charming group of people could not be found." He preened vainly as Shin admired his musicbox. Myles loved nothing more than compliments. "Isn't it just?" he said proudly. "A man at a bakery slipped it into a bag of ladyfingers I ordered." He grinned. "I figure I must be a lucky guy, yeah? I don't really have much else worth stealing because of my," he coughed delicately, "Limited means, so I figure I oughtta bring this thing around with me. Security, you know?"

"There's no such thing as a large group of gentleman." Shin disagreed. This was not because he was being judgmental or mean. It was the truth learned from experience. "There are gentleman, and there are people not quite as polite as they seem. Baring smiles and gifts but speaking malicious words when they think ears can't reach the sound of their voices. People are afraid of the different, even most of those who act or seem different."

He knew what he was talking about, especially because he was something most deemed too strange. He was just too strange, and so it seemed almost his existence was like a bat that beat the bushes people hid it and showed the true colors that they had on them. "You're more uncommon then you think. That is what makes you so charming. Most gentleman disappeared with womens rights when women decided having equal rights meant acting horrible to men who where just trying to be sweet and polite. As time goes on less and less are about."Did you get it at a bakery named mooncakes?"

He recalled his friend he had met a bit time back had a girl with her that aged at a strange rate. They both went to that bakery where Audley was the baker and the cakes and things where all the best. It sounded like Myles didn't have much though but that was fine. "When I was small back in my home country Japan I use to be poor too. My mother was sickly and all alone to raise me, because the man she had a child with decided he didn't want a sickly women, divorced her and left the country."

He didn't call that man father, and he grew a slightly bitter expression on his face when mentioning the man, as if he had slipped something foul in to his mouth and the taste lingered even after it was swallowed. To him, that man was not his father, and never would be. "Even though we where poor things where wonderful when it was just me and my mother when nobody was bothering us. When I graduated high school my mother had gave me her life savings from all her hard work of all those years at her job so I could go to a collage abroad. When I was in collage though she died of illness so in the end.. I never had the chance to repay her or give her the things I thought she deserved for being so strong for me and sacrificing so much for me. So I know life isn't all about money and isn't what brings happiness. Even now living in England and horribly wealthy I'm always miserable."

Myles laughed. "Well, I'm sure the guys at the theatre would disagree." he said slyly. "But alas, humans will be humans, right?" He gave Shin a lopsided smile. "I can't say I have a right to be afraid of the different, seeing as I'm pretty different myself. I figure whatever makes people happy makes em happy, so why bother to complain if it isn't hurting anyone?" He looked thoughtful. "Well, I think most women still like the odd things men do." he pointed out. "They just don't like it when men don't ever stop doing odd things to take time to get to know 'em. I can't say I've ever had a woman act horrible to me. But sometimes they say I'm kooky, which I guess isn't all that polite of 'em."

He tilted his head. "Yeah, I did! Gee, you're not a little psychic, are you? That's pretty impressive."

Myles frowned. "Come on now, she wouldn't really want you to be miserable, right?" He thought or a way to remedy this and soon came up with a brilliant plan. "Ice cream." he said cheerfully. "Let's go get some ice cream." Ice cream would not solve all the problems in the world, but it certainly helped, and Myles, skinny as he was, thought with his stomach.

Shin shook his head, "just because someone calls them self a gentleman does not mean they are one. Usually they're people who just.. act it. Similar to how I try to act as a lady. Polite, manors, honest, and to try not to speak ill of anyone in name for it might start gossip and that's quite an ugly thing. But I'm still a man." He giggled a bit at Myles commentary about being unique. He was cute, it was nice to be with such a nice man for conversation. "People like to complain even if its not hurtful because most humans are afraid of the unknown. But you are right, there's nothing wrong with being unique.. But Myles I was talking of during the time when women where trying to get equal rights. During then most women where very rude and scared off most gentleman. That's why there aren't many these days. That has nothing to do with the modern women but just to modern man.."

Icecream? Takano gave a smile to the man, "Why don't we go to the bakery? I'm not physic, I was just thinking.. someone I know that also goes to the same bakery has an unusual child that grows faster then normal children goes to that same bakery. That's the only reason I guessed. It seems to be a mysterious place with a lot more magic then I really know of.. But a nice kind of magic. They have really good cake too. I love all their sweets and delights. They have the best flavor and the atmosphere is very friendly along with the baker Audley."

Myles shrugged amiably. This plan also involved sweets, so it sounded perfectly acceptable to him. "Let's get something cold though." he decided. "I feel like having something cold."

Thinking about what Shin had said before, a frown creased his face. "True, true. But I find that if you want to be something very, very hard it can be possible. Some things, like ladies, are physically impossible to be at times, but if you try hard enough to be a gentleman, I find you slip into an, ah, sort of altered mental state. A gentlemanship of the mind, yeah?" He grinned widely. "And no matter how few there seem to be, there are always gentlemen when you really need them. That's what makes gentlemen gentlemanly, they're always there if you look."
