HP Lovecraft, as you may know, was a 20th Century horror writer, having a style influenced by Poe and Lord Dunsany. Some of his most famous works include: Herbert West: Reanimator, The Music of Eric Zann, and The Call of Cthulhu, and the related stories collectively referred to as the Cthulhu mythos, as well as the re-occurring theme of the Necronomicon. Many metal artists are fans of his work, and express it through their music, namely Metallica (Call of Ktulu, The Thing That Should Not Be), Morbid Angel, Nile, Necronomicon, Necrophagia, and countless others.
I'm sure all of you listen to at least one band that pays homage to this master of horror. Discuss what you think of him, artists influenced by his work, and anything related to him.

I love Lovecraft. Some of my favorite stories so far are Herbert West: Reanimator, Color out of Space, and Rats in the Walls. Still need to finish the collection I have. Any fan of Lovecraft should check out Robert E. Howard (uh duh) and Clark Ashton Smith. A current favorite of CAS: The Devotee of Evil

lovecraft was good but couldnt write dialogue for s**t.
and trevor, morbid angel is less influenced by lovecraft, and more influenced by the laughable piece of trash published by the occult stooge "simon" under the name of "necronomicon" in order to capitalize on lovecraft's popularity with his own lukewarm and largely fictionalized account of the occult. simon is a tool, and morbid angel seem to have swallowed his bullshit unquestioningly.

Yeah, I know, but ANYTHING bearing the name Necronomicon is influenced SOLELY by Lovecraft. And the dialogue doesn't matter, and as is the case with a lot of his stories, its not about how well he rights, but how he gets his point across and the effect it has on you. His stories are usually a sum greater than the parts kinda thing.
@Ash: Nice. I have his complete works of fiction in one volume, and I just started on Herbert West. My favorite so far, I think, is The Nameless City. I also really like The Terrible Old Man, The Tomb, and The Music of Eric Zann. I also LOVE the message in The White Ship, and its pretty relevant right after Black Friday and during holiday season.

and trevor, yeah dialogue isnt really important because he doesnt use it much, but when he does, his stories get a little...silly.

I've been wanting to get into his stuff for a really long time now, considering I love Poe and, like you said, he's influenced by Poe, but I really don't have time to read now. I'll try to get his works during the summer. mrgreen
