User ImageThe dark colored mare chewed on the grass below her hooves, kicking through fallen leaves to do so. She sniffed the air. Where had fall gone? It seemed that winter was already approaching again... The mare shook her purple head, her mane flying.

She didn't want to think about winter right now. Winter was a hard enough time as it was, being alone and fending for herself in the cold. With a snort, Duskai turned and walked toward a stream, wanting to get her mind off her thoughts.

User ImageThe air was crisp, winter was setting in. Misaki was use to the cold though, the land she had journeyed to in her youth was always a bit cooler than other climates. She drank lazily from the stream that ran close to the grasslands. After taking a few sips, she lifted her muzzle, staring at the water. It seemed like months now since she had returned, and still, no sign of her sister.

She gazed at her reflection, the long black locks of mane hanging down in her face. Loose ends dangling gently in the water below. She smiled. Fate knew the course, it was up to Misaki to follow it.

Duskai approached the stream in her thoughts. Rather, she was looking down at the ground, in her thoughts, and only stopped at the waters edge because she smelled it. Her long white hair spilled off the bank into the water. She looked up and started a bit. A mare, rather beautiful with flowers all along her flank and body, was a little ways up the bank from her.

How had Duskai not seen--- Oh, the looking down in thoughts. Right. The black and purple mare was not scared of the unicorn, so much as she was wary of disturbing her. Her mouth fumbled over words silently, as she forced herself to say something.

"S-sorry..." she said, bowing her head as far as it could go, her mane covering her face.

Misaki's head lifted at the sound of another, she watched as the purple mare made her way to the water before realizing she wasnt' alone. A smile graced her face when the mare made eye contact and spoke.

"There is no need to appologize," her voice soft and friendly. "This is not a private place." she lowered her head for a moment in greeting, her long locks cascading to the ground below.

Lifting her head she looked over the mare, "Young." she thought to herself. "Forgive me for saying, but you seem...troubled?"

Duskai stiffened a bit, even though the mare's voice was friendly. She still felt as though she'd said something wrong. She brought her head up, trying to not look too scared, even though she was sure she looked it.

The mare looked off to one side for a moment as the other mare spoke. It took her a while, but she spoke, careful as always. "I... winter is not... a happy time for... me..." said Duskai softly, not meeting the mare's gaze. Her mind started to assalt her with visions of her past and she shut them out, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment. Her knees locked and she shivered involuntarily. Why did this always have to happen...

Misaki took a few cautious steps forward, not wanting to frighten the young mare any more than it seemed she already had. "Winter is always worse when you're alone," she looked around to see if by chance the mare had a mate or someone following her. "Are you traveling alone?"

Misaki never ment to intrude, but sometimes she didn't think before she spoke. Always one for company, if the mare was alone, she would end up being invited to travel a ways with Misaki. She found it quite comforting to have someone to listen when she was upset, she could only hope to lend an ear to this mare.

Duskai calmed herself down, trying to keep her fears to herself. "Y-yes... I am... alone... as always..." she said, her voice full of pained sadness as she finished speaking. She was always alone, as the norm was. She would not burden anyone with her speak, her presence, nothing. She had a few friends, yes, but they were off with their own families it seemed.

Or, Duskai had just lost them in her wanderings. She wasn't sure.

She straightened her stance slightly as she watched Duskai's body language. "Well, as it happens, I could use some company. Will you join me?" She smiled, taking a few more cautious steps further. "My name's Misaki," she started, trying to figure out the best way to convince the mare to join her for a walk without being creepy. She didn't like to see other's pained, and she wanted to help all she could...it was a personality trait that ran in her family.

"You see, I'm looking for my sister...I could surely use another set of eyes." She gave her best smile, then shifted her weight causing her light cloak to slide off of her barrel. "I tell great stories," she said in jest.

Duskai blinked and nodded her head a little. "I am... Duskai... I'd like that..." she replied quietly. She was curious about Misaki, if for nothing else, she reminded her of some mother Soquili and their foals she saw around the lands.

Her head tilted to the side as she stood up more fully, getting ready to walk. "You have... a sister? That must... be nice... having family... you know of." Her words were choppy and soft, but there really wasn't any sadness within them. She was used to not remembering her parents, or if she had siblings. It was like a black hole in her memories, that she didn't dive into. Her entire foalhood was like that. Just a black hole.

"Yes, I suppose my family is still out there..." Her words trailed off as she looked over to Duskai. "Come on, I'll tell you about them." She motioned for Duskai to walk along with her.

"You see, I was born in these lands many many years ago. I had a mother and father, a sister, and a brother. We are a traveling sort of family...gypsies almost if you will," she smiled thinking back to her foal hood days. "My sister and I were the closest, but, just as I was coming into adulthood, I decided I wanted to travel one way...my sister...she wanted the other," she spoke to Duskai as if she had known her for her lifetime, not holding anything back.

"I travelled far to the east, and remained there for many years. Only recently have I returned. You see...I don't know if my parents are still alive...I don't know of my brother or sister. I dont' know anything, except that fate has brought me here....She brought me here to you today." She cast a friendly smile. Misaki always refered to 'fate' as a she when she spoke, which was often. Misaki believed that everyone's paths crossed for a reason, it was up to the soquili to take the opportunity for great things.

"Are you searching for someone too?"

Duskai walked with her, listening very intently on Misaki's words. Her curiousity usually got the better of her, and she would say something that didn't go over well. She kept her mouth shut until the mare asked her a question.

"I don't... Its always... been that... it's better for me... to be alone... I don't... have to burden... anyone with... my words," she said, her voice trailing off as she spoke. She dipped her head a bit, so her mane trailed on the ground. There was something about Misaki that just screamed 'it's okay, just tell me about it. I won't hurt you." Very caringly-like. Duskai wanted that, deep down. For someone to be kind to her, in place of the black shadow that was her parents.

"Burden them with your words?" Misaki stopped and looked over to the mare, "Words are gifts, Duskai." She used her nose to lift Duskai's head. "Do not lower your head in shame. I'm sure you have something wonderful to share with the world." she offered a friendly smile.

"If you don't mind me asking...Why do you think such of yourself, Child?" Misaki had a tendency to call youth by that name. It was the nurturing nature of her family bubbling forth.

Duskai looked off to one side, collecting her thoughts. Never told other Soquili why she was almost mute. She never did. It opened a box she'd sworn to never open. Her fear stopped her, as well, and out of habit, she looked around for others.

"I... a long time... ago... when I was... a foal... a group of foals... bullied me. They laughed... everytime I spoke.... even when it correct. A few older ones... started to yell at me... everytime... I spoke. It was either... speak... and get attacked... or not... and get left... alone. I... I... picked not speaking," she told the mare, her eyes squeezed shut. She didn't open them as she waited for Misaki's responce.

"Oh, Duskai..." She watched as Duskai closed her eyes as if she was half expecting Misaki to laugh at her. "Foals can be mean to one another...as can adults. But, there are those who will listen to what you have to say."

Again, the nurturing nature came out in her, she gently nuzzled the mare's neck to comfort her. "The past is the past, you can not change it. But, you can not dwell there either or you will never learn to live in the present." Her voice reassuring.

"Come, we'll practice." Misaki began to walk again, "Duskai, tell me of yourself." she coaxed.

Duskai was a little surprised, and walked with her again. It took her a while, but she spoke again, "Ah... well... I don't... remember my parents... or most of my foalhood... I blocked... it out... I came... here as... an adult..." Duskai trailed off, trying to sort through her thoughts.
