so in our feild show we have this part where we're all going backwards at a pretty fast tempo (for marching backwards that is). so it was halftime at a homegame and one of our tuba players tripped! needless to say he fell down, and was nearly trampled by a couple of trumpets. he had the most amazing recovery ever though. he got right back in in like two counts! So the guard has named all amazing recoveries after him because we are guard and must name everything: tosses, equipment, and now recoveries. Seriously though if you blinked you probably would have missed seeing him fall.

so have any of you witnessed or been in any major mess-ups or amazing recoveries?

well we were doing the percussion feature and a clarinet fell, and she was up so fast. it was like woah. i almost missed it. and and another time our cymbal player fell. but i think it was ok, cuz we were playing wipe out. and both looked almost like they belonged there.

I had a part in the show where I held for four counts, and then go to parade rest on one and backward march for 8 counts. Well, during practice, I tripped during the march and somehow kept my instrument in parade rest, backwards rolled (according to everyone, I backflipped), got up, and finished the rest of the show perfectly.

this was my brothers freshman year, so 4 years ago...

Chandler High was in the fiesta bowl parade, and one of the trombones, Alex Hartman, tripped, did a forward roll, then the person BEHIND him, kicked him up and he got perfectly back into step. But he did lose his mouthpiece so he sorta just had move his slide around... but it was absolutely amazing.. ^^

Tee-hee... ^_^; Set 14 going to 15, a shadow marcher (those ppl that can't play but pretend just to be in a marching band) had to backward march 8 to get to her set right in front of me. Well, she's a freshman, doesn't actually play an instrument, and has never marched before, so needless to say she's never had much experience with step sizes...

Almost every single game, she'd backward march too far and would end up banging my instrument into me. I constantly had to yell at her on that set if her step sizes were going too big. She even busted my chops for a while until she finally got her step sizes right.

Luckily nobody ever noticed my yelling at her while we marched except her. ^_^;

No offense to you,
but our retarded Guard members placed our props
(mind you, they're behind us, to our left and rights)
where WE are suppose to back up, at a fast tempo.
Well, I was one of the unfortunate ones who fell into the prop,
and got stuck on the fence.
My right shin was bleeding like crazy, all gouged out with
splinters, blood, dirt, grass, skin, etc.
And my shirt was ripped from the spikes on the fence.
Though I was down for a few minutes, with a swift jazz run,
I made it back to my spot before anyone noticed.
They only noticed due to my shin. :/
I freaking hate Saturday practices. ha ha.

hehe it didn't happen to me but my brother justin before he became drum major (he also plays the flute) fell, did a few summer saults, and the last summersault, he got on his feet and stayed in step and was in his dot and he continued playing lol! it was hilarious, i was about to die laughing so hard! so now if justin was playin flute in a regular band uniform instead of conducting, then i would be able 2 pick him out lol. i'm suprised he hasnt fell yet as drum major smile

Well . . . our state show didn't go very well, meaning, this idiot baritone player fell down during a jazz run, A JAZZ RUN, and didn't get back up for like, 4 measures or so. Everyone wanted to kill him (worst marcher ever).

Another girl fell, too, and in the second jazz run, but she was up in a flash and got back in line.

It was pretty weird, actually . . . the turf was awkward.

O yes.
It was probably around a minute,
maybe almost two,
before I could pry myself off the prop.

This didnt happen while i was in marching band, it was the year before, but trust me the story will never die.

During a competition there was this "heavier girl" who fell. At this point our intervals were pretty small and she ended up taking out all of the flute section and part of the drumline.
They didnt recover the best either

So, during our first field show of the year a mallophone player tripped back marching from one set to another and broke her wrist.
She was up so fast no one noticed.

This was just during practice,
But we were marching the show in sections and I wear skate shoes which are a tad loose. I was doing a quick back march and I slid out of my shoes. So I'm marching around this damp field with no shoes on until the bd calls halt. No body noticed until I walked back with my shoes in my hand.

Well we were at a mock competition. It was pouring down rain hard and it was hard to keep our balance in our shoes without any grips. So I walk double timing across the field diagonally towards the back left when facing the bleachers. I stopped moving my feet but just kept going. I moved my legs to try to stop myself. I started to spin out a little bit and fell on one of my knees. I used my trombone to stop myself from sliding, sticking the little bump on the bottom of my slide into the ground. That little black rubber thing idk what that is. So i immediately used my trombone to get up. All of that took me only like 5 sec. For some reason I was congratulated for it.... even though my uniform got really dirty.... Well, I was congratulated by the band members but the BD said nothing. sweatdrop

It was at Area marching that I saw the great screw-up and recovery ever.

Poteet High School didn't really have a theme, but if I recall, they were playing Blue Shades. They were doing a backwards follow-the-leader at a decent clip, when suddenly, a flute player fell. Then the person in front of her. Then, the person in front of her. I flinch, thinking, this is going to do them in. Poteet is SCREWED.

Within the next two seconds (or it seemed that way), ALL THREE OF THEM are back up on their feet. Needless to say, Poteet was in the top 5. I asked around afterwards, and apparently, some people didn't even notice it. What the hell.
