With her tail high, the young Safimoto danced across the dimming grasslands. She was quite happy, but that was how she normally was, all chipper and playful, making clinking, tinkling sounds with the warped circles on bands around her paw and tail and the two thin hoops around one back paw chinking together as she twirled and twisted, as graceful as a leaf on the breeze. She had danced herself away from her family group, but they didn't mind. The small female was often wandering off. None of the others knew where she had gotten her lovely gold trinkets, nor did they ask. They knew better than to ask Safi. For, despite her age and the progress of her brothers and sisters, Safi had not shown an ability to be able to form proper words, only sounds. Well, her aunt had caught her in the act, and she was pretty sure Mister Taban knew, but they would keep her secret, she knew for certain. You see, Safi was intelligent, and observant. True, she was one of the last to learn to speak, but with that time she noticed that she learned more if she kept quiet as well as wasn't expected to talk if they didn't think you could.
But then, not being able to share one's secrets was quite boring sometimes. Sometimes, she really wanted a friend. Not one of her brothers and sisters or her cousins or even the young hyenas that trained under Mister Taban. Nah, just a friend.

Zoran's lime green tail, which matched the little fluff on his head perfectly, danced about as he walked along. His two mothers were both far too busy with his siblings to worry about him. He had a broad smile across his maw as he, once again, got to explore new places. He hadn't run into many others while on these outings, but those few that he had met each had an impact on his life. Each one taught him something new. Everyone had something to teach. What he taught the others, he wasn't quite sure. Zoran let his purple eyes glance around to see what all this new place had to offer. There wasn't much, but he liked it. The playful cub liked just about everything. Zoran loved life and lived to its fullest. It was just his nature.
Suddenly, something caught Zoran's attention. A strange noise that he had never heard before. He wasn't sure how to describe it, but he wanted to know what it was. Slowly, he made his way towards the luring noise.

Currently alone in the world, the freckle-spotted cub spun around, smiling and laughing as she danced. Her father's daughter, she lifted her sweet, child's voice to the heavens in breathless song as she twirled, a song she had learned from her father. "Sing out, sing out, sing to the world. Sing out, you will be heard! Sing the message and the word. Sing a new song to the world. Sing out... Sing to the world!" She liked the chorus most, so that was what she sang. Her father wasn't much of a song-singer, he preferred ballads that told the history of things. Safi adored happy songs that begged to be sung by oneself and called for others to join in. For her, life was safe, happy. She had no idea at all that there was someone being led to her by the sound of her merriment.

Slowly, Zoran made his way closer and closer to the owner of the sounds. When suddenly a voice joined in with the strange sound, Zoran's ears flicked forwards. His pace quickened a little, happy to know that another was around, someone new.
What could this new friend teach him? He tip toed closer and closer until the spotted cub came into his sight. He didn't want to interrupt her song, so he stayed silent as he continued to move closer and closer to the female. His tail flicked along with the song and his smile grew a little. He hoped his presence wouldn't bother her singing, he liked her singing too much to interrupt it.

Safi was just so happy! She twirled and jumped as high as her little legs could take her... And landed with her nose smack-dab in the middle of another cub's face. "Ah!" she gasped, scrambling backwards with a squeak, her bangles and other pieces of jewelry swinging and jingling with the jerky movement, blue eyes wide in surprise. It took her a minute to register that he was smiling, but when she did, she blinked, the tenseness leaving her frame a bit. Well, her facade was blown with this cub. There was no way he'd missed her singing, unless he was deaf. And if he was, she'd be mostly sad. It wouldn't be fun at all, not being able to hear.

Zoran's face wrinkled slightly when the other ran into him. When his eyes opened, he smiled slightly, his tail continued to dance about, but soon stopped when he realized there was no more music. Now he felt bad for being the reason the music ended. "I'm sorry." He said, with his ears flicking slightly. "Didn't mean to stop your singing." He looked at the little things hanging from her paw and tail. So that was the thing that was making the noise. "What are those?" He asked, glancing up to her face to see if she knew what he was talking about. Zoran knew it was rude to just ask questions and not introduce himself first, but curiosity got the best of him.

Safi giggled on the inside. Nope, definitely not deaf. She habitually started to mew in response, but paused, smiling back, her face quite expressive. "Oh, it's no biggie. I surprised myself as much as you surprised me," she replied, giggling a little. "I'm Safimoto..." she said almost at the same time that he asked about the bands on her paw and tail and no doubt the bangles on her back paw and the rings in her ears as well. "These?" she asked, looking down at them. "A friend gave them to me. Said it could help me take music wherever I go," she finished, shaking her tail to emphasize the explanation with a clinking jingle.

Zoran's ears flicked at the sound of the clinking when the female wiggled her tail. Ah, so that was the sound he heard earlier. He looked at himself, rather bland. Nothing special about him. His tail wiggled slightly, no accessories to make a noise, maybe he should get something on his tail. It'd make him different from his siblings, other than looks of course. "Oh, I'm Zoran." He replied, his smile growing slightly as he watched the female. She was something he had never seen before. Her tail was like his mother's, but she had extra fur on her neck.

"It's nice to meet you, Zoran! In truth," Safi paused there to look down a bit in something of embaressment. "Well, I'm really glad you caught me singing. I don't talk, at all really for one reason or another and it's nice to talk with someone," she added, looking back up, her smile back on her face. Apparently all that not-talking made her something of a rambler once she started. That thought made her giggle again.

Zoran didn't mind the rambling one bit, in fact he kinda liked it. He smiled and flicked his tail slightly, creating the music in his head of the female's singing. How did the song go? Sing to the sky... no that wasn't it. He made sure to listen to every bit of what the female was saying to him. She seemed like she would make a nice friend. "Really? You don't talk to anyone? Doesn't that get lonely sometimes?" He decided he would make this new presence his newest, and probably first real friend.

Safi nodded a bit, but shrugged. "Yeah, sometimes, but I learn a lot more about others. When people thing you don't talk, they are more free and you just learn stuff in general. Easier to learn when you're not talking yourself. My aunt knows, but talking to adults gets old after a while," she replied, flopping down and rolling over playfully onto her back, crossing her eyes a bit to look up at him. "I mean, I've got lots of siblings and cousins, but for now, it's all," she mewed cutely, a curious and happy one before continuing, "among them."

Zoran watched as Safi laid down and rolled onto her back, his head following slightly until he couldn't twist it anymore. Soon, his head returned to its normal position as he listened. She did have a point. "I usually take turns when talking to others. They teach me things and I think I teach them." He wasn't sure what he taught others, he always wondered if he had taught the other creatures he had met anything. Most likely not since he was still pretty young. "I have siblings too!" He said with a nod. "We get along... I think." He was probably the most playful and fun loving out of his siblings. His multi-colored tail swished happily behind him. It was always fun meeting someone new.

"Getting along is good!" Safi giggled back, pawing at him a bit so that her coins jingled. "My cousins and brothers and sisters don't interact too much at all. Well, not with me, anyways. I guess they figured I was too quiet to be fun," she replied with another shrug. "So, what are you? You don't smell like my brother or sisters or my cousins or my momma or papa or auntie, so... Are you a mix like me and my cousins? My momma's a cheetah and my papa's a lion and my cousins' momma's a cheetah and their papa's a leopard."

Zoran nodded his head simply when she talked about how his siblings and him did get along. He couldn't stop his ears from flicking at the noise of her bracelet jingling slightly. It was actually a nice sound once you got used to it. He smiled at the noise then listened to her. Without much thought he pawed back at the female very gently so he wouldn't hurt her. He was rather big for his size. "What am I?" He asked, looking at his body. The only thing that made him believe he was not a lion was his tail. "Um... I'm not sure." He said honestly. "Both of my momma's are lions, so I guess I'm a lion... but my tail doesn't look like theirs." This confused him greatly. He figured if he was part cheetah, whatever that was, he would look like his new friend.

Safi giggled when he pawed back at her, but blinked and frowned and rolled over when he spoke of his two mommies and how they were both lions. "Two mommies? Well, if you have lion mommies, and I have a cheetah mommy and a lion papa and you're not quite like me, I guess that means your papa's a leopard like my auntie," she replied, thinking it through. Unless there was some type of cat that she didn't know of. If that was the case then she didn't know at all. "Do you not know your papa? My cousins papa doesn't stay with them, either," she added, trying to soften her probably insensitive sounding questions.
