"Twenty years, readers, twenty years have passed since the USSR dissolved and damn near every crazy villain or terrorist in damn near every movie is still some crazy Russian guy. You'd think we'd start writing in Middle Eastern villains because, you know, they actually attacked us within our own borders and have been, arguably, a much more dangerous adversary than the USSR was in the Cold War era, but no, that would be insensitive. We wouldn't want to hurt any Middle Easterner's feelings by even vaguely implying that members of any ethnicity common to that region may have questionable morality by portraying them as villains... That's only acceptable with white people. But the Russians disagree; they're tired of being jeered at in our movies, shot at in our videogames; they want an end to this discrimination."
I totally agree. I hate how my people are always the crazy bad guys in movies. It's insulting and it pisses me off. mad

uhm... other than 007 and indiana jones, what else has had soviet bad guys?
idk, most of the movies i watch have nazi bad guys, mobster bad guys, drug dealer bad guys, or futuristic orwellian government agent bad guys. i really dont see very many russians - good or bad - in my movies.

MegaTherion777 uhm... other than 007 and indiana jones, what else has had soviet bad guys? idk, most of the movies i watch have nazi bad guys, mobster bad guys, drug dealer bad guys, or futuristic orwellian government agent bad guys. i really dont see very many russians - good or bad - in my movies. Pretty much any movie or game with terrorists, video games in particular. Get Smart recently had Russian bad guys, and the new Transporter movie. Hellboy had a Russian bad guy. So did one of the Rocky movies. The Most Dangerous Game had a Russian bad guy, though that was pretty old. I watched The Man Who Knew Too Little the other day and it had Russian bad guys. In video games, Metal Gear, Stranglehold, Splinter Cell, and many others feature shooting Russians as they yell out butchered phrases in my native tongue with bad grammer and accents. The list goes on and on, I just don't have a good knowledge of movies.

Same here. And is that any reason to hate all american movies? How many religious zealots are in movies? I don't hate the movie idustry for it, stereotypes are dumb, but they happen.

Yeah, two of the biggest movies that people went to go see recently. The mentality is still being asserted to the public. And I wouldn't be surprised if they make a movie about this whole "rekindling of Cold War tension" crap that started after the whole Georgia thing.
