Amira was from a family of brave knights.

Okay, not really, but. Her sister was brave and knightly enough to make up for her mother and father, so she still staked a claim in them being up their on the do gooder ladder. They'd proven their worth rescuing their elder brother--who made a mighty fine princess, she had to proudly point out every time she told the story--from the evil vultures. They'd also saved their pride from starvation! The vision of them standing together in her mind was an image of an unstoppable force.

In truth, the pride had not been starving. The queen had made some comment about wanting food, more out of hunger than boredom at that. As for their brother, he'd only been trapped in the prison of elephant rib bones because they'd told him to go stand there until they freed him. You were on top of the world when you were her age, not mastering reasoning or reality. Come what may Tabia may still remain held in such high opinion. Her sister was, after all, amazing.

Only Amira out of the two of them could have gotten stuck in a ditch. Yes, stuck. In a ditch. She'd been so determined to catch that bird--or was it a butterfly? Whatever it had been, she hadn't caught it. As if suffering defeat wasn't enough, she fell down, down, down against the rocky ledge. For an adult, this would have presented itself as nothing more than a minor inconvenience; they'd have just jumped up and out. Amira was very young, small for even a cub. To her this was a mountain she couldn't quite conquer.

What would a knight do?

Hm...

"...HEEEELP!"

...Probably not that.

For Uidan Fyja, this was just another normal day. He'd been coaxed into playing along with his siblings earlier on, and now was taking a brief rest on his favorite rock. From here he could watch his family go about their business and keep an eye out for anything interesting in the distance.

Like a cub falling head over heels into a hole in the ground.

Fyja was on his feet in a flash, leaping off the stone and running over to peer down at the trapped cub. Was she hurt? Or just stuck?

Injured? No, not unless you counted her pride. Both her pride and her pride. Wouldn't Waseme be ashamed to learn one of her subjects had been defeated so easily by a mere hole in the ground? It was shameful.

--What was that?

"Mwokoti?" Amira called hopefully. Sure, she'd called for help. She'd just assumed fate would throw her bone, so to speak, and it would be the Goddess who would find her first to save her the embarrassment of anyone else baring witness to her plight.

Damn.

"Hello? Who's there? Can you help me?"

By the sounds of scrabbling and general movement Fyja determined that no, the girl wasn't hurt. That was good. But she surely was stuck, and that was pretty bad. Good thing it wasn't raining. As it was, the ditch was dry and hopefully escapable with some help.

"No." He mumbled as he leaned over far enough to see the girl face-to-face, referring to the fact that he wasn't whomever Mwokoti, whoever that was. "Uidan Fyja, not Mwokoti." He sat at the top of the ridge a moment and just looked. Then he turned and let his tail dangle down into the hole.

"...Can you reach?" He hoped she could. Of not he'd have to think of something else.

Amira was clumsy, not stupid. No way was she going to attempt to claw her way back up using something fragile as a tail! Was he crazy?! Her sister had stepped on hers a whole week ago and it still hurt!

"Your tail? Are you crazy?" she voiced. "It'll hurt really bad!"

Not that she was fat or anything...
PostPosted: Mon Nov 24, 2008 5:22 pm

Fyja sighed. This was going to be more work than he thought. "Of course not my tail. But if you can reach it then I'll know how long a vine to find. Now reach!"

He'd already spotted a rock lodged on the other side of the ridge. He could wrap the vine around that once he knew what to get. All this silly girl had to do was go along with it. There were some trees not too far...now he'd just have to hope there were vines there. And if not...well he could go get a parent, he supposed.

"Well fine."

The cub scowled at him, nose wrinkled back. Psh! She'd show him! When she got out of here. If she got out of here. The promise of impending doom was enough to convince her to reach for his tail, which she did. And when she did, she grabbed it a put too tight and accidentally give the poor tail a good tug downward when she lose her footing and was rewarded with a graceless faceplant.

OW. Okay, that wasn't in the plan! Fyja hissed angrily as he was nearly tugged off his perch. Once freed from that horrible female's claws he scrambled to get his back feet out of the pit again. "I guess you can reach then." He winced, twisting around. Oh yeah. He was missing a good chunk of fur now, not to mention skin. Once he had this girl out he'd be sitting and soaking it a good while. Bah, he hoped it wouldn't get infected.

Without a glance he set off for the trees. Why bother saying 'wait there'...obviously if she could leave this whole problem wouldn't exist. Oh, good. As he got closer it was clear there were some vines...a bit high up though. This would take some thinking.

He sat back, careful to hold his poor bloody tail high out of the dirt. He could climb...or jump? Well that would do. He scrambled up one of the trees and leaned out. Almost...almost...there! AHHH!

Oww...he'd gotten the vine alright. But then his grip had loosened and he'd toppled back to earth with a thud. And the vine landed on top of him. Well no time to lay about and ache. With a groan he was up, hauling the length behind him.

It wasn't that she had done so much damage on purpose... She just wasn't about to feel badly for it. It did take a brat to look a gift horse in the mouth like this; to harm a rescuer going out of their way and not feel the slightest twinge of guilt about it. Amira hadn't really learned about guilt quite yet.

On the other paw, she knew well the feeling of annoyance. "H-Hey!" And worry. Where was he going?! A sigh of relief escaped her as all the sounds from above her connected together. Oh, okay.

She shuffled back, just a little, and waited.

Fyja too knew well the feeling of annoyance...but thankfully he'd tempered that with calm stoicism after having to deal with his siblings so long.

My this vine was heavy! No matter though, he was there already. He glanced down in the hole-yup, still there-and with a lurch he flung the vine down. Shifting his grip to the far end, he walked with it around the rock nearby, twisting it up and tightening it.

He grunted to let the female know it was tight. He'd hold the other edge tight just in case.

As it turned out, Amira had not stepped back enough. She still wasn't too far out of the vine's reach. So, when it was thrown down, it smacked her in the face and knocked her down. Thankfully, there was no way for her to fall any lower, or she probably would have.

The cub growled--well, squeaked in an imitation of one--and vowed this was the last time she got stuck in a ditch like this. Being rescued by a stupid cub was not fun! Er, not rescued... Assisted. Yeah, that was it.

Her tiny claws grabbed onto the vine and she jolted up it, perhaps a bit too quickly. Making it to the top, she sprang forward and, if you wanted to call it that, landed.

"Thanks. Even though I totally had it handled."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 24, 2008 7:16 pm

Fyja nodded and released his hold on the fine when the cub came flying over the rim of the ditch. A simple "Mm." Was his way of saying 'you're welcome', and he trotted over to get a better look.

No, everything seemed right. She must be fine then. So long as she was careful around holes. He jerked as his tail settled to the ground. The dirt stung the bare spots where the flesh was exposed! He grumbled, ignoring the girl to tend to himself. The end was stained red with blood, though it had since stopped oozing. That was good. The scabbing would protect it until he could get momma to bathe him. Still, it hurt.

"Uidan Fyja." He suddenly piped, reiterating his name. An introduction from outside a ditch seemed improper somehow, and so he'd decided to redo it.

"Hey, I did." Outright disagreement she'd have handled better than just some silly noise. She took it as false agreement instead of the "you're welcome" he'd intended, and she didn't like it. Light eyes, a gift from her mother, watched him closely, almost like she expected him to turn and attack her at any given second. She knew it wasn't very logical. No one who'd spent time saving--assisting--someone would do so just to maul them later.

But if he was out here he was probably a rogue and rogues were dangerous. Because... um... They just were.

Uidan Fyja...

...What could it hurt?

"I'm Amira," she mumbled in response, following that becoming more lively. Nearing him she examined his tail, somewhat surprised by the amount of damage she'd done. Her claws her awesome. "Ah... Are you okay?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 24, 2008 7:39 pm

Fyja blinked. Had he disagreed with her or something? The look in his eyes said clearly that she was mistaken, and that he'd meant nothing of the sort...of course, few lions around except his family knew how to read his expressions. To Amira he may as well have just been siting silent.

She was afraid of him? No...just cautious, maybe. He could see it by looking at her. Well maybe he could try to look more appealing. His expression softened slightly, and he tried to hold himself less tense...though that was hard when your tail was burning behind you.

"Ah." He replied to her name. It was nice. Not like any names he knew, but then she had to be from someplace far from his home, both present and ancestral. She was all the wrong colors for those places, really. He let her take a gander at his tail, before flexing it and swishing it about, displaying that no real harm had been done.

There was a feeling of relief that his tail was in bearable condition, but it was short lived. Amira's ears went flat by reason of annoyance. He didn't have many manners! Neither did she sometimes, she just didn't realize it.

"Didn't your mother ever tell you you shouldn't just make noises at other lions?" Her babysitter told her mother's taught every good life lesson. Her mother hadn't ever said that. Actually... no one she'd known had. It bothered her though so it had to be improper. "You're not a very good..."

Crap, what was that word?

"...conver...lation...ist."
