The female was laying in the coolness of her small den, that she had made herselfa little away from her pack, yet still in the territory. She had not wanted anyone around while she had the pups..Too many dangerous foes around to try and hurt them,and she'd be powerless due to actually having them.
Gren came around quite frequently,always checking up on her,a nd ready to sit with her if the pregnancy pains were too bad. But he was not around now, and she wished, more like willed, him to arrive.
Her belly was swollen, and she lay there, panting a bit, before beads of sweat trickled down her forehead and down her muzzle.
She grimaced a bit, but did not cry out.She was stronger than that. But she wanted to so badly.. It was time.
Her pups were coming.

The drifting male had been growing more and more anxious by the day, unsure of the source of his nervous behavior. Was it the growing pressure between packs bordering Aqua Azul that made his anxiety boil up his throat, or was it Shezaam and the growing brood in her belly. They were his--no one else's. Gren wasn't entirely sure how he felt about this fact, after all, he had always presumed that pups were meant as a display of love between partners, and though it wouldn't be wrong to say there was love between Shezaam and him, but their love was something completely different. They were friends, not lovers. Though he cared for the female, his heart lay elsewhere and as did hers. What would these pups be to them, and how would they share the responsibility of parenting them when she followed a pack ruled by individuals he felt no less than insane, and he traveled the wilds alone, constantly on the border of danger.
New parent jitters didn't begin to express his emotions. Gulping, the ebony male padded to where he knew Shezaam to be bedding. The little den could only fit two adults with barely any room for any more bodies. He wondered if it would be appropriate for him to join the female, or if tradition called him to wait outside. Then again, it wasn't time yet...was it? As he approached the den something felt off. A spark trickled through his spine, prompting him to run, and as he dipped his head in his eyes grew wide.
"Shezaam?" he murmured, half wanting to yelp but controlled his voice well enough to not disturb the female. "Are you alright?" he paused, "The little ones are here?"

Her nose wrinkled in agony as another contraction hit her, and she howled out in pain. She heared her own agony echo though the den, and she knew it would carry well into the night.
She hadnt heard Gren arrive, she hadnt been able to smell him with all the distraction either. So when he spoke, her eyes widened as she quicklyperked her head, fearing that it was someone dangerous who had heard those calls of pain.
"Oh Gren.." She said softly, smiling, despite the extreme pain she was in.
"Gren, you are about to be a father. Theyre on their way." She said.
Gren had been her best friend, through thick and thin. She loved him with her whole heart. But her love for him was friendship, as was his for her. She didnt want to think of him leaving to live a dangerous life as a loner..But they had discussed this before, and it was how it had to be.
She'd stay in her pack, he'd go back to traveling. They both won, yet she felt like she was losing a dear friend.
Then she shook her head to erase the thought. He had given her a precious gift, the least she could do was be here for him in his moment of need...Even in her own pain.

He hesitated outside, still keeping watch from where he stood. It wasn't natural for a she-wolf to allow a male in as she gave birth, unless the bond between that female and male were stronger than the best of mates. He wondered if it would be appropriate to join her, or if she would even let him. Nervous and outwardly anxious, Gren tried to hide the fact that he was starting to feel the flight reflex bubble up within him. It was instinct for him. Of course, he tried to hide this, not only for Shezaam's sake, but for his own as well, knowing full well he had to take responsibility and linger. Besides...he wanted to see the pups.
Slowly he crept forward, coming closer to the pained she-wolf, unsure of what he could possibly do to assist her. On his belly, the dark male lightly moved up beside her, weary of her fangs, but moved to her muzzle all the same and gently lowered to give her a reassuring lick. "They'll be as lovely as you," he said gently, grinning sheepishly. This sense of helplessness was something he detested, however, it was something he knew he had to endure...besides, he knew it was far worse for Shezaam than it was for him. She was his comrade, and he vowed long ago to stick by his comrades.
"You'll get through this...we'll do this together," he murmured, not knowing what else to really say. It was an awkward situation from him, and something that made him wonder how packs dealt with such a moment. For most it was a celebration between mates, alphas' bringing in the heirs to their empire, and a chance for whelping femmes to assist the female if need be. Be here they were, alone, and utterly clueless. And what was even more interesting was that their line of thought were on two different tracks. Shezaam thought of the future, while he stayed in the present and thought of the past. He would have never been a sire to anyone's pups had things continued how he had thought they would so long ago.
Grencia wasn't entirely sure if it was a blessing things changed or if it was in fact a shame. The way he figured it was that no matter how things played out, it was all a blessing. Now he had the chance to be a father. And even though he and Shezaam were not to raise these pups as a pair of mates, he still would play a role in their lives, no matter what that role would be.

Never would she let the male out of her pups lives. Even if her heart lay with Chocolate in this moment, she would forever love Gren as the best friend he truly was.
She smiled gently, the first pup passing as she breathed deeply and blew out in a sign of pain. Her face scrunched up, but it was brightened as she looked to the black ball of fluff after it had been cleaned.
It had orange markings, just like Shezaam had. She looked up to Gren, a smile upon her features.
~~~~~~~~~~........................~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After all the puppies had been born, she nuzzled into him, silently thanking him for staying with her through the ordeal. He had been so careful.. So cautious, and she wanted him to feel peaceful now that the three pups sat ahead of them. She looked down at them, smiling with the smile of a first time mother.
"Oh Gren.." She whispered with glee.
"Theyre beautiful..You were right.." She said with a smile up at him. He had said they would be lovely, and here they were, alive, healthy and lovely just as he had promised.
"I..I dont think Ive ever been happier."
The sensation that twiddled its way through Gren's entire body was indescribable. Awe and fascination alike glowed in his silver eyes, as well as admiration for the mother who had so brilliantly brought the three little lives into the world. As she nuzzled him, he nuzzled her in return. He looked over the three forms, grinning slightly as he observed their features. They took after their mother considerably, the orange of her bloodlines fierce in their pelts, but they also had a bit of his flare, which he thought was amusing. In earlier years he had often scoffed at parents for being narcissistic about their children - now he understood why.
"You did wonderfully, Shezaam," he said, looking to her green eyes before returning his stare back down to the little ones, unable to keep away for very long.
While he was happy, happier then he could express, there was a certain loneliness that slithered into the back of his mind which he swiftly moved to patch away. Certainly Shezaam was also lonely, as he knew she had someone she was interested in and would father the pups alongside her when he was absent from the picture. Though pups had never been something he could foresee in his future, he had imagined a similar scene between a mate and himself, and though this was different from his plans, he was perhaps as equally happy. Life doesn't go the way you want it all the time, after all, and sometimes it slips in something else just as good when it snatches your goals away.
It caused a pang in the females heart, to think of these pups, not being born under the mating of two wolves. She looked at Gren with a gentle smile, but the smile hid the concern she was feeling so desperately.
She knew Gren wasnt the wolf in the fairy tale story for her.. She knew he wasnt the one, and she knew who was.. She also knew that Gren and herself, were not meant to be the pair of dreams. They were best friends. Thats how they had to stay. Love was everything, but they held a different kind of love for each other. It had once been friends, but now it was best friends, with the pups bringing them together as amother and father.
"Oh Gren!" She squealed, pushing the bad thoughts from her mind. "Theyre so beautiful.. What should we name them?" She asked, perking her ears. Oh she had almost forgotten about the names!
He could almost sense her concern. He could almost feel the very thoughts that were going through her mind -as they were his too- but as soon as his heart was to delve deeper into lonely questioning, Sheezam ripped him out of thought and into a far more pleasing direction. Names. Names were extremely important and as he thought, the ebony wolf started to consider the possibilities. In his family, his father had named the males, while his mother the females. Perhaps something similar would happen here. Although, he didn't know the tradition of those of Aqua Azul.
"Names, you're right," he murmured with his usual thoughtful, almost melodic tone. His eyes swiveled over the itty-bitty forms. How precious. The little orange tints, the bishop insignia...they were so beautiful. "Hmm..well, my full 'dub' is Grencia Mars Elijah Guo Eckener," he gave a sheepish grin, "My parent's had perhaps too many allies for which to name me after. We can name the boy Elijah, maybe. But the girls? I'm not a good judge when it comes to these sorts of things."
She giggled in joy.
"Oh thats a wonderful name Gren, I just hope you dont mind my forever calling you Gren." She smiled, looking down at the little male with a soft sigh.
"Elijah." She said, rolling the name off of her tongue. Oh it was such a nice name. So fine and brave sounding. Yes, Elijah would be a perfect name.
"I love that." She said, green orbs gazing into Grens own.
She looked to the little orange female, her heart beating wildly. "Im not sure what this means.. but I have heard it and always wanted to name my little girl something such as it. I like Malandra." She said wtih a smile. "What do you think?"
And the little black female, reminded her of the opposite of her father. She smiled, happy that her father could be seen in these pups and looked back up at Gren.
"Id like to call her Voila!"
"Yes," he grinned sheepishly, "my full name is rather ridiculous so I do prefer just Gren." The male had always thought it odd, and maybe even a little eccentric of his parents to give him a dub with so many names mingled in. It did call to question just what sort of wolves his parents were.
His eyes folded over the little ones, flitting between them and Sheezam's pearly green specks, glad she had accepted the name he had given the boy. Not knowing the full meaning of the name, or the implication, he still hoped that the moniker would somehow be useful to the pup and fit him well. Now to the females. Listening to Sheezam's ideas he had to grin. Malandra was sweet and feminine, while Viola! matched perfectly with her families odd little tradition. He gave a grin at that one. "I think those are both perfect names. Rather amusing actually. I'm glad you're keeping that unique tradition that your father kept up," he told her.
