He'd been told not to move too much from where he'd been propped against the wall, the people in charge telling Micajah that too much stress on his damaged body would only prolong his stay in the sterile room, sitting in the bed with itchy sheets that smelt of bleach and coldness. Naturally this only made him want to get up and move around the tiny compartment despite his leg resting up in the traction gears, the large cast staring back at him like a white monster that would refuse him any natural movements, and he frowned as he tried to wiggle his hip enough to get the leg loose.

" . . . Being told to not do something only makes one want to do it even more."

Fortunately, or maybe not so much, Micajah had always found himself rather flexible so he could easily bend at the waist with his leg up in the air. As he leaned upwards he ignored the throbbing pain coming from his left hand as he used the cast'd item as a balance to prevent him from falling off the bed, and once he had managed to hoist himself up enough that his right hand could unhook part of the cradle keeping his leg in place he let out a small sigh of relief.

"There we go, not so ha-"

Micajah's words were cut off as the strap released and the sheer weight of his cast sent him toppling over sideways and off the bed, his body making hard contact with the floor thanks to his inability to prevent the fall from occurring. The sound was loud and jarring, his elbow contacting before the rest of the body and sending a cold shiver of pain through his already battered body.

". . . .nice."

With a wheeze he rolled himself over onto his back the best je could, taking a few test rolls before he could actually make the weight of his cast aid him instead of hinder him. It made a pleasant thunk on the ground as it wheeled him over, and as his chest heaved up and down he stared at the ceiling tiles. Off his back in the bed to on his back on the floor. A slight improvement.

Canaan had only recently ended his tour with the overly talkative, but interesting, Scyeth, and had decided to get a private look around the Science and Technology buildings before heading back to his dorm room. He'd already seen the impressive gym, and was now walking through the hospital area, pleased by the quiet. Obviously, not many got injured at ShinKami.

His thoughts were quickly interrupted by a loud thunk and the sound of a young man. Frowning, Cane took a few steps back in the direction he'd come from, and let his blazing eyes glance in the door's small window.

Huh. Raising an eyebrow, he debated leaving the somewhat fair-skinned boy where he lay, but his grandmother's strict teachings and morals guided him, despite being so far away from his home. A brief, polite knock, and Canaan opened the door, entering, and shutting it quietly behind himself.

He didn't look like a happy camper, but he wasn't angry... At the moment. A grunt and nod was given as a greeting, and he approached Micajah, crouching wordlessly to help him sit up a bit. Canaan had the strength to lift the boy back to the bed, if he wanted it.

Micajah wasn't sure how much longer he wanted to lay on the ground like he was, his back starting to get a little cold and his mind getting a little tired from counting the ceiling tiles again from a different point of view, so he was about to try and roll himself to his hands and knees when the sound of his door opening and closing quickly interrupted his thoughts. Slowly he tired to lean his face back to see who it was, but when he didn't recognize the face he frown for a moment before the conditioned smile crossed his lips. It stayed there as the new youth grunted and came to his side, even kneeling down and helping him into a sitting position.

"Ah, thank you very much. I fell out of the bed and was wondering how much longer I would have to lay here before I crawled for help. You're a lifesaver."

He turned and gave the same smile to the youth that he always did when thanking someone, though for some reason it felt a bit harder to do than usual. Micajah had believed that smiling was so easy for him since he was trained to do this again and again, not to mention he was always smiling when the time called for it, but as of late it felt almost impossible. Perhaps it was because all of his charade had blown up in his face already?

"You don't have to do much else if you're needing to go on your way, I'd hate to trouble you more than I already am."

Micajah tried to push himself up with his good hand only to wince as the burns on his fingers came into contact with the cold floor and pressure ran up his arm, though he did his best to play it off with a smile and a slight chuckle.

Canaan was quiet, not stupid, and he'd spent years simply observing others, and learning body language and vocal tones. Those were far more important than the words the person was actually saying. Instead of leaving the more delicately built boy alone on the floor, he shifted so that his arms were beneath him, and grunted again with effort, heaving him from the floor onto the bed.

Some sort of orderly would probably be around soon to check on Micajah, and it would probably be best for both of them if the boy wasn't found on the floor. Eyes bright against his dark skin, he simply stared at the soon-to-be magic student, as if the words he was saying, and the smile he was faking, weren't even in existence.

Interesting that the boy was so injured. He was obviously a student. Dead-pan, Cane actually spoke. "Fergit t'write a paper?" Was that a joke...?

"No really, you don't have t-!"

Micajah protested weakly as noticed Cane moving to lift him, though he bit his lip shut as arms scooped him up and deposited him, unceremoniously, back onto the bed. Well, his attempt at an escape out of this room had now been foiled thanks to a stranger's interference, and as Micajah tried to position himself to a more comfortable spot his face looked rather dejected. He only managed to push it back into a smile as the other person began to speak to him, and he looked up with a rather sheepish grin.

"Ah, no. I was messing around with a magic book and ended up causing a small explosion."

He moved his hand and touched the bandage that lay on his face gingerly, glad that it only covered most of the top of his face so that his eyes were almost shadowed and properly hidden. Eyes could not deceive people, he knew this, but mouths could.

"If you think I look bad, you should see my room. There's nothing left of it, so in a way I probably did lose a bunch of my papers too."

Cane glanced from the bed, to the floor, to the door, and back to the bed, raising his eyebrows. Ah. A wheelchair was folded up and tucked against the wall, and he pointed at it, with a noise from deep in his throat. Was this a jailbreak or simply a visit outdoors? Wouldn't the guy have to check out or something?

Magic, hm? It was a general rule that white men shouldn't meddle with such things. [Women of any ethnicity were, as a rule, witchy creatures, though...] Cane smiled slightly, completely to himself, before glancing out the window. It was a nice day, despite the snow.

Micajah's gaze followed the grunt towards the wheelchair in the corner, and he raised part of his eyebrow up in a questioning manner as he turned back to look at Cane. Was he trying to ask what that was, or was he trying to ask if Micajah wanted to get in it and get out of the building?

"...are you wanting to take me outside, or are you wanting to know what that is? Either way you're going to have to speak to me, I'm afraid I'm not very good at reading grunts and pointing."

He leaned on his good hand as he tried to shift himself over to the edge of the bed in case the youth really did want to take him outside, but all of this motion was making him weary and he wondered if it was thanks to the medicine given to him to ease the pain or because of simple state his body was in. His eyelids felt heavy on his face and they drooped slightly, though with a quick blink he set them back into place. Who knew being injured could be this...exhausting?

"If you want to go outside, I'm all for it. I've been stuck inside here for two days and they won't let me even get out of the bed except to use the restroom - though that's not even a guarantee. You'd think I was being held hostage or something."

Cane's blue eyes narrowed immediately, and he frowned at Micajah, his large presence suddenly intimidating. "I know what et es." Obviously, he was defensive over his choice not to speak, and his intelligence level. The short, muscular native american strode across the room and opened the wheelchair, setting it up, and rolled it to the side of the bed, helping Micajah into it.

It was a lot easier than lifting him onto the bed had been. The brown boy grabbed the blanket from the bed, to put over Micajah, and headed out into the hall, stopping as he was unsure of the direction. "... Check out?"

Micajah was indeed slightly intimidated by Cane as soon as the other had spoken and seemed to be not pleased by what Micajah had said, and he drew his shoulders inwardly as if he half-expected the youth to strike him. It wouldn't be the first time he'd be hit because of what he said, though when Cane merely got the wheelchair and dropped him into it, covering him with a blanket afterward and wheeling him outside, he was honestly...confused.

Whaaa?

"I...I don't think there's a check out here, this isn't like a normal hospital. I don't even know if there's a nurse's station or anything, so that's...."

He bit his lip as he looked around, wondering just how much trouble he could get himself into over a short span of time. It was all a matter of time before the Headmaster came to shout at him, not to mention other teachers ready to share their two cents, so for Micajah to be sneaking out now seemed the least of his worries.

"I'd just go ahead and go. It's not like they can punish either of us any worse then what I've already done to myself."

"... Mmn." Was the only acknowledgment that Micajah had spoken at all, that, and the fact that Cane promptly began to wheel the chair down the hall, in the direction he'd come from, as it was the only way he really knew how to go. The boy [unlike Micajah], had an excellent sense of direction, and rarely got lost, but now was not the time to wander a network of sterile hallways.

Soon they were outside, where, although there was snow on the ground, the sun was shining. Not so bad, not so bad at all. Canaan relaxed slightly, in a more natural environment [he didn't trust hospitals] and began to wheel Micajah along the concrete path, a tad aimlessly. He was obviously waiting for Micajah to give him some sort of direction.

He also didn't seem to be the talkative type, considering they still didn't know each others names.

Micajah shivered as soon as the pair exited the building, mostly from the cold but also from the slight fear of what this escapade could bring down upon him in terms of wrath, and his good fingers moved to rub his shoulders lightly as if that would keep him warm. The blanket was keeping his legs warm enough, though his shoulders tingled slightly in the cold.

" . . .Thank you."

He didn't have much to say, really, since he had wanted to get out of the room. He had no destination of his own in mind, since he had no room to go back to and there was no one looking for him to be with him, so he merely slumped slightly in the chair and let his eyes stare down at his bandaged and cast hands.

Cane was fine to walk along in silence, but he figured he might as well learn something. He didn't like talking, but he did enjoy listening. So, he spoke up, as unfortunately, it seemed like his crippled companion needed prompting. "I'm Canaan." A pause. "How is the school?" He was like Wynn, in a way, simply that he didn't talk much, and seemed at peace with himself. Maybe it was a native american thing.

"Hello Canaan. My name is Micajah."

It was like Micajah was at peace as well now that he was outside, the cold air reddening his exposed skin and helping him feel something other than pain and the figurative cold of a lonely and sterile room. Instead of allowing himself to remain cold, however, he moved his blanket up and placed it about his shoulders.

"The school here is fine, I believe you may like it here if you're new."

There wasn't much else to say, he was outside and this person didn't seem the talkative type. Was this really better than being alone?

"Mmn."

Cane was quiet, but it was different than his stony silence prior, it was thoughtful. After a moment, he spoke, tone barely above a whisper, a flare of anger. "No. They stole me." It seemed like not everyone was happy to be at the school. Still, he'd given a piece of himself to an outsider, and hadn't received anything in return. Immediately, he shut down, blue eyes shifting to the trees as they moved along.

Stolen? Did ShinKami really steal children?

Micajah turned over his shoulder and looked at Cane to see if the older teen had been kidding, though the expression he caught on his face pretty much told him that he wasn't. At all.

"I wonder if I can say I was stolen, though more or less forced here. I didn't get a say in the matter but now that I'm here I'm starting to wonder if it would have been any different if I actually had. I probably would have still ended up here but I may not be in the same state I'm in now."

He chuckled bitterly at that situation, wondering if he'd had a say would he have been more outgoing? He certainly wouldn't have done stupid things in order to get company.
