So far, they're little escape from his home pride had been a success. After Ama had given him his two choices, Chardon had figured out a third that would suit his needs perfectly: instead of killing his beloved sister and mating with Ama, or killing Ama and continuing to live in a secret love for the rest of his life, he ran away.

With Ama, of course. It worked perfectly.

No one from home was following them; he'd checked a good many times to see if the guards had come after them. Ama was getting closer and closer to him with each passing moment, and he had no choice but to plaster a loving smile on his face and play along to his unknowing partner.

It made him sick, a little.

It's not that he didn't like pretending. He did it all the time at home. Both because he liked to be a different character than his usual self for other lionesses/lions, and because he needed to keep suspicions of his and Cala's relationship down. Ama was the only exception to the latter, but his charms and confidence were slowly wrapping her around his pinky toe.

He had lead the two of them through the desert for many days. They would rest when they needed to, against a boulder and under the shade whenever they could. Chardon acted like he knew where they were going, but he honestly had no clue. But when they reached the edge of desert, they found something Chardon had never seen before.

An abundance of green.

Trees were everywhere, as well as all kinds of bushes and shrubs. There was a good-sized stream that lead to a bigger pond. The area and a nice smell. It was fresh, and green, and calming. Char had the thought that if things worked out, or even if they didn't, he would love to spend the rest of his life in a place like this. He was built for the desert, but he already knew that his heart belonged to the jungle.

Amalahle had once heard that it was impossible to get everything you wanted in life.

Oh, how wrong that was...

It was a blatant lie.

Ama had absolutely everything she wanted. A beautiful mate completely under her charming spell and power, freedom from a pride's rules, free to wander where she wished, endless green land to claim, a vast supply of food, water, shelter; everything she needed...What a perfect life.

She never thought it would be so easy to steal Chardon's heart. But she had done it so quickly. She didn't even have to use much blackmail. It was almost suspicious how willing Chardon was towards her, but Ama was already much too convinced that he was in love with her to question his motives. Besides, it wasn't like he could get away...

She was always watching him.

Ama smiled happily and pressed herself close to Chardon as they walked, grass cool under her paws. She breathed deeply the scent of water and sighed.

"Shall we settle down here for the night?" Ama asked lightly, paying no attention to the fact that it was no where near nighttime. It was a question for Chardon to answer, but Ama had no intention of not staying if Chardon said that he'd rather keep moving.

"Settle down for the night?" he repeated with a husky chuckle. Inwardly, he grimaced. It wasn't even beginning to get dark yet, and she wanted to settle down in a spot for later? Ugh. He was so glad that Cala hadn't been so girly and giddy all the time like this.

Then again, they never had the chance to do anything romantic-wise, anyway.

Swallowing his disgust and smiling again, he bumped heads with her and laughed again. "Fine. Would you like to pick a good spot or shall I look around a little?

He knew very well that if he was to be the one to look around for a good spot that she would follow as well. And if she was the one to look around, he would he asked to follow her so she could keep an eye on him. To be honest, he was getting tired of being watched all the time. Chardon had to think of something to get her eye off him all the time...

Problem with that, too, was his coat color. Compared to all the green things surrounding them, he was easily spotted with his dark yellow fur and his bright red mane. Ama's kind of blended in during dusk and when it got darker, but Chardon still stuck out like a sore thumb. He hated it.

Ama smiled inwardly at the sound of Chardon's laugh. Any sound he made at all had her glowing from head to claw. She was so terribly, sickeningly happy...

But could it last?

Ama shook her dark thought away. Of course it would last. She was sure of it. As long as she knew Chardon was nearby, and as long as she had him in her sight, they would always be together...

She leaned in close and nuzzled his cheek, briefly admiring the lush colors of his coat. "Why don't we look together?" the adolescent asked childishly. She wouldn't take her eyes off of him; not for one moment. She refused to even sleep. With a violent flick of her tail, Ama signaled that she was ready to begin looking for a place to settle down.

Together.

Chardon winced inwardly; of course she wanted to look together. That had been the third option, you know. If one of them wasn't going to do it, they might as well join forces and do it together.

Sigh.

"Of course, love." He obediently followed her lead and began leading the way, heading towards the right. Perhaps they would find a decent spot. Maybe some trees were bent together to form a make-shift den, or a bush, or rocks, or something. He would look for nice, comfy spots. Decent sized spaces. For some reason, he knew she didn't like to sleep. Maybe it was just her thing, but it was rare that he ever saw her close her eyes for longer than a blink. How did she move around so energetically during the day?

Oh, he knew why she did it. But he was truly amazed at her stamina with her lack of sleep. He couldn't do that.
And then an idea popped into his head.
He'd save that one for later, though.

Ama stayed right beside Chardon, hardly ever taking her eyes off of him.

He was so gorgeous; so built...What deep, black eyes he had...Ama's heart fluttered and she grinned, liking the feeling.

He was all hers.

Gods knew she hated cubs, but perhaps if Chardon was there to raise them, maybe it wouldn't be so bad? He'd do all the teaching and looking after, of course. Ama would want nothin to do with the little creatures. But then again, such thoughts were for later. For right then, they'd only recently run away together. Now was a time for finding a place to stay; a home.

"Oh, Chardon~," Amalahle cooed in her girly voice. She pranced ahead of him to a place where many trees bent over to form a dome. It was like a cave made of trees. It was big and shady and went back quite a ways. Ama smiled at it and looked back at Chardon. "Isn't this nice?" she asked. Her tone seemed to be hinting to Chardon to agree whether he really liked it or not.

Her cooing voice sent shivers down his spine. He was entirely surprised and proud of himself for holding himself together for such a long time with Ama around.

All. The. Time.

He walked forward, though, to help inspect the dome-shaped den that she had found. It was a good size. Shade was offered with the leaves above. There was a comfy bottom with the grass and the fallen leaves from nearby trees. The area beyond the entrance looked deep and very...

Private.

"Oh, that is nice. You're good at finding things; I knew you would find one before me." With a chuckle he nuzzled her head proudly before entering their new den. He had to make sure it was safe, after all. If he didn't go ahead and do it, she would probably ask him to in a girly-kinda way.

After a moment or two, he came back out, honestly impressed with the size. It would be a very comfy den. "All safe."

"Well, my, my, my." Amalahle started, glancing at Chardon. "Aren't you just the hero today?" The way he had just waltzed inside was very fearless. It almost hinted at a rushed sort of...Plotting?

Nooo, of course not. Her Chardon was just worried for his Ama's safety. What a fine mate he was.

But could he be trusted yet?

Maybe not now, Ama mused to herself, but soon; very, very soon. She still had to tweak a few things in him. But he would be the perfect male soon.

Shaking away her thoughts, the adolescent turned to look up at her "mate", smiling. "So, this is our home now?" she asked gently. "Where we'll stay together...forever." It seemed so unbelievable. But it was true. It was finally true.

Chardon would be hers forever.

"I certainly fit the part looks-wise, do I not?" he teased back, turning in a slight circle for her to admire him. "I'm big and strong." He struck a pose and puffed out his chest, shaking his head and making his bright mane smooth down handsomely.

He was good at playing along. The practice he had from wooing and flirting with the other females of his pride certainly had paid off, that's for sure. Chardon was glad for it. Otherwise, it would be a bit hard to put on a mask of feelings to hid his true ones from Ama. She was the kind of person who could pick away at your shields and defenses until she saw what was underneath.

And if it was something she didn't like, well...
Chardon had a feeling that she wouldn't take it so well.

"Of course. If you like this as our home, then we'll stay. I like it," he added with a soft smile.

Ama's heart skipped at his dashing display of shining mane and rippling muscle. He was so perfect...

No...They were both perfect.

As long as she was by Chardon's side, they were the best couple in the entire world. But something still tugged at the back of her mind. Such perfection couldn't last for long...

Could it?

"Yes." Amalahle said above a whisper, taking her pink eyes off of her dazzling male to rest them on their new den. "This is our home now."

It would be her and Chardon forever.

She'd make sure of it.
