The first lights of dawn were enough to send the strange 'queen' of Kizingo'zaa out of the main pridal den as fast as he could. He was feeling flushed, embarrassed and the muses only knew what else; he could only hope that none of the other members were awake or aware of his hasty retreat into the flush jungle.
He'd had a dream.
A dream he was pretty much well aware he should not be having. At least not now anyhow; Panu was gone (again, goddamnit, how did that boy do it? He always vanished in the worse moments imaginable!) and they'd not heard from him a full moon. While it was true his disappearance was heart felt, it had not sent the pride into chaos. There was already a born heir and Misae, along with Hadithi, were already training him. Still, it was no time to be dreaming... such dreams. Something about dreaming such candid pictures was wrong, he was sure of it; the fact that he'd not told Sewti about this dreams made him feel allt he more guilty.
Then again, it was not something he could easily just go up to her and admit. Something told him that telling her;
"Hey! Guess what? Turns out I have pretty vivid, uhh.... sappy, mushy dreams about you and me together! SO! Wassup!"
Was not going to go well. So thus, he'd been taking the coward's way out; he'd been rushing out of the dens early morning to take nice long swims in the ocean. No doubt, the waves would soon knock some sense into him. At least... that's what Nili was hoping for.

Since Sewti had finally become comfortable with sleeping in the large communal den (meaning that she had finally convinced Kisi that it wouldn't be the death of her) she had taken a spot very near the queen of the pride. By 'very near', she might as well have been sleeping pressed up against him, for there was little space and the flower-stamped tomboy was hardly shy when it came to it. However, being so close meant that she often realized when Nili stirred, let alone when he actually got up and left. She realized he had begun doing this early in the morning more often of late and though she tried not to let her curiosity get the better of her, there just came a point where she had to find out what was causing such unrest in the soul of the male she was actually rather fond of (to put it lightly).
Stirring from her spot as the pale male made his flee from the cave once more, bright eyes blinked against the early morning light. She watched him slip away, a frown marring her features, before she carefully dislodged Kisi's head from it's resting place on her hip and slunk out after him. If there was something wrong, if he was upset, she felt compelled to help him. If there was anything she could do, she would do it, and she wasn't going to pretend she didn't know the reason why. She might have seemed more male than female on some occasions, but her mind wasn't as dull as men's in the department of emotions.
"Nili?" She called out once they were far enough away from the den that she was sure she wouldn't stir anyone inside. Her tail lashed behind her in a worried manner, though she tried to school her face to look as if she were simply curious. She pushed herself forward with a bit of speed, attempting to catch up with him. "Is there something wrong?" she asked, even before she reached him, deciding that there was no need for pretense today. There was something wrong and she wasn't going to give him a chance to distract her with doing something else, or weasel his way out of talking about it.

The beach was as welcoming as always, and no sooner did he reach it that the male raced for the water, splashing through the waves. At first glance, one might have thought he was simply playing childishly with the water, a pass time many of the pride's cubs were prone to engage at, however... he was doing it a bit more roughly than the younger lions. In fact, he rammed his way headfirst through the many waves the ocean set forth; his hair became tousled, his pelt soaked, but above all, it was a distraction and a means to cool down from what Nili thought could only be dubbed as 'feverish' dreams.
The fact he was busy ramming his body against the the waves made it difficult to hear Sewti's voice in the near distance, however, after he'd emerged from a particularly large wave, his ears flicked towards the beach. Sure enough, the lioness' form became visible, and with it, a question he knew not how to answer. Something told him that 'Uhh... no, nothing's wrong' wasn't about to cut it. Sadly. Running away was also not an option; while he'd been slightly awkward around her those past few days (if only due to the fact that looking at her face brought forth sets of images into his mind's eye that he felt he had no right to be viewing) he had never once walked away from her.
That would have been rude and very unlike him. He'd changed the topic several times and had managed to weasel himself out of the ordeal, but now she was asking him in such a straightforward manner that he had no escape routes left open. Letting out a sigh, he blew the bit of his mane that hung over his eyes out of the way before trotting out of the water, "I just had a... weird dream and was cooling down from it," he told her; there it was; the truth, albeit blunt and rough, not to mention without details of what the hell he meant, "Aren't you worried about Panu? He's been gone for a pretty long damned time, don't you think?" he grasped for a topic of conversation that would stray her away from his real worry.
Oh god, she was going to think he was shameless, a horrible person and a pervert and... and.... a long string of other things.

Sewti wasn't a fool. However aloof and carefree she seemed most of the time - she had a sharp mind. She had noticed the awkward way that Nili had been acting around her and, indeed, the way he strayed away from certain subjects and quickly changed the topics of conversation. He might have been better at such games than she was, but it didn't take her long to get a grasp on what he was doing. What she had yet to figure out however was exactly why. Was he mad at her for something? It was a juvenile and entirely feminine thought, and as much as she knew that, she couldn't shake the mental frown it put in her heart.
"Why on earth would I be worried about Panu?" she said with a scoff, shaking her head at the mere thought of that. "I was with him the last time he decided to run off like a ninny, remember? That means I'm pretty sure I know exactly what he's up to right this minute, if not where he's at." She figured he'd likely gone back to the cove that she had been living at, as it was a great get-away, and that was where he had ended up the first time after all. He knew she wouldn't be the sort to sell him out, if he was indeed looking for another reprieve from life for a time. She didn't necessarily approve of him vanishing on his cubs, but if he was having a hard time, there was nothing she could do.
"But Panu is beside the point here," she said finally with a frown, flickering her eyes up to look at Nili as he stalked from the water. "Is this 'dream' the reason you've been acting so wound up lately?" She let out a deep sigh, reaching up with a paw in an attempt to brush back the infernal tuft of white mane that hung in front of her bright eyes. "Dreams are just projections of desires unfilled, Nili, they're nothing to get wound up about. Certainly nothing to create such a fuss over." She nodded her head towards the ocean, in reference to how he had been charging the waves like a raging boar.

While he wasn't as horribly blunt and his expression was far from being an open book, the small male was still... well, a male. He fished around in his head for more topics he could set forth as soon as she ran out of things to say about Panu; in all honesty, he couldn't have cared less here Panu was. As far as he was concerned, he had likely become overwhelmed when the cubs had arrived and had, once more, taken the easy way out. The fact something might have happened to him never even crossed his mind; if anything, Panu was strong and knew how to take care of himself. His brother was mildly daft in his mind, but able and strong. Sadly, Sewti knew as much, thus so, picking Panu as a topic for conversation had been over-rated; a mistake he wouldn't have committed had his mind been more cleared of the red fog it was still hazed by.
"Wound up?" he breathed, still gasping for air from his running amongst the waves. He tried to sound innocent, for the life of him, he did. Somehow he was just sounding dumb. And her words were not really helping that much. Mostly because now that she was saying it outloud, he was hit in the face with the fact they were true.
Dreams are just projections of desires unfilled.
Oh. My. God.
Would she noticed if he beat a hasty retreat back into the waves? Most likely, she would. Thus so, Nili just gaped up at her for a full moment. It was almost as if she'd hit a switch in his brain that had then ceased all function, "I..." he blinked for a moment, "I like you," it was blurted out really swiftly, as if that were the only thing that occured to him to say, "I really like you," he continued, well aware that he really, really, should have shut his mouth, "As in.... I... IthinkImightloveyouandstuffandIdreamaboutyouandstuffandanddddd..." he snapped his mouth shut.
Would she notice now if he made a mad dash for the ocean?

She turned her eyes back to the ocean as he questioned her choice of words, though she was really watching him from the corner of her eye. She could tell that he was trying to play it off, but he wasn't doing it in a very good manner at all. She just sat there, tail flicking, a calm expression on her face. "Yes, wound up," she repeated, as if saying the words again would drive it through his thick skull, or perhaps make him realize that all she really wanted was a straightforward answer.
However, when he finally mustered up the courage to say something, it wasn't quite what she had been expecting. Her eyes flashed, widened at the words that had just passed through her ears, settling on him in a manner that suggested she really didn't believe a damn thing he had just said to her. 'I like you'. She had opened her mouth to respond, though she had no idea what she was going to say even as she did so, when he cut her off with that rushed flurry of a sentence. Though hard to understand, she could still pick out what he said mostly, and her facial features seemed to be somewhat permanently set into astonishment.
Then, all of a sudden, she let out a laugh. Gentle but deep, and full of a nervous mirth.
"Of all the things I expected," she whispered softly, almost to herself as she shook her head and glanced out at the ocean. For a moment, she just stared, letting the feelings that had been gripping her heart wash away. Then, she glanced at him with a tilted head, her lopsided little grin spreading over her maw. "It must be frustrating, flowerboy, to be so emotionally female." The thought was amusing to her as she stared at his face, realizing what sort of dreams he must have been talking about and just why he was tramping about in the cold water so early in the morning. She moved then, to stand at his side, brushing herself against his chilly, wet fur without much further thought - whichever of them was really the 'male' in that moment was probably hard to decide. "Don't be so nervous," she said softly, "I've probably had worse dreams of you than you could ever imagine."
With a rather devilish laugh, soft though it was (for the moment seemed to require some degree of gentleness) she simply shook her head at him once more. "Nili, I'm sure I love you."

Somehow, laughter was not what he had anticipated as a reaction. Maybe her smacking him, or her yelling at him, or perhaps something else. But surely not laughter. For a moment, he considered asking if what he'd said was really all that funny, but soon enough decided against it, instead opting for staring at her wide eyed.
Was she laughing at him? Oh lord, he WAS a joke, wasn't he? Now, if he could only bury himself under the sand, all would be so much better. There was no time to do such a thing however, and before he could ponder it much longer, she spoke once more, "I.... what?" he flopped his ears back, frowning up at her; somehow, the terminology she was using was hitting a sore spot. Of course he was frustrated! That was sort of the point of running into the freaking ocean every morning, goddamn it! In fact, he was half way about to open his mouth to tell her as much when she elaborated and he found himself snapping his jaws shut.
If her words hadn't spiralled his mind and thrown it out for a loop, surely the contact and having her pressed up against him would have. The combination of both had him faltering for a full, good minute, "I... you do?" his voice sounded hoarse and he sounded breathless, though now he wasn't quite sure if was due to the exercise anymore. He didn't really need much more encouragement than that and he pushed himself against her, breathing a sigh of relief he hadn't even been aware he'd been holding it, "God, that makes things so much easier then. I love you. I'll sing it out loud from the top of that damned cliff over there if you want me to."

His bumbling had only amused her more, and now that she was no longer afraid that he was mad but in fact knew the very reason that he was upset, she couldn't do anything but smile that signature grin at him. He wasn't angry or irritated with her, no, he was in love with her and suffering very male reactions in a rather female mind. She supposed if her nerves had not just come unwound after days of tying themselves into knots, she would have laughed rather hard at that situation. Try as he might, the poor queen of the pride couldn't escape his own body or his own urges within it.
"No, just hearing you say it is enough for me," she said, leaning her forehead against his as she let him press himself against her. "You should know me well enough to know that I don't need you to run off and do anything romantic like scream your love for me from the top of a cliff," then, with a grin, she rolled her eyes up to look at him, "though I could go do that if you want me to?" It was followed with an amused laugh, her tail batting lightly at his as she stood there by his side. She never would have realized just how nice it felt to stand there beside him with all the uneasiness between them gone - just she and Nili. She was sure they must have been created for one another, in some twisted joke on mother nature's behalf, because she just couldn't see how anyone else would fit either of them.

It was only then that he was starting to feel the bubbling peels of laughter within him, though rather than laugh, he smiled. Which was odd for him; he wasn't a lion to smile all that easily. It was had to get him to crack a smile, and yet Sewti made it seem so easy that no doubt the rest of the pride members had caught on faster than they had.
Surely Misae had caught on long ago. The thought made him close his eyes as he pressed his forehead against hers, letting his mane, as wet as it was, mingle with her fine, white pelt, "Nah, you don't need to. What you CAN do, is just stay here till... till I come to terms with the fact it's not another o my sappy dreams," a pause, "That, and now that I know you don't mind, I'm kinda getting guilty pleasure from the contact," he reopened his eyes and allowed his head to lift from her forehead, "I think... we need to go tell my parents," if anything so that the whole world DID know she was now his mate, and he hers. Oh god, that sounded really nice in his mind.
Maybe he WAS a romantic at heart.
"Then, after we do that, we could go check out that cove Kapuki and Panu used to spend so much time alone together in," because he really had no intention of sharing her with the rest of the pride for the rest of the damned day. Or night. Or week. In his defense, he'd been suffering for a long, long time. Needlessly to boot! Oh how he wished he'd spoken up before now.

She smirked at his admittance of guilty pleasure, her eyes half-lidded herself as she felt the cold, wet fur of his body warming to her own and her own fur growing damp from the touch. She wouldn't ruin this moment and admit aloud all the things she wanted to say from the crude little corner of her mind. "I promise, I'm not some dream you've conjured up," she uttered reassuringly.
"Your parents?" her eyebrows rose a little, her brows lifting. It was a reaction one would expect from a male being told he was going to meet his girlfriend's father, not from a female who was going to announce mating a very peaceful couple's son to them. Regardless, she shook herself a bit and only nodded. "Alright, alright," she muttered softly, shaking her head, though a small grin was in place. To officially be able to call him her mate would be nice, she had to admit it.
"But only if you promise it will be fast - I'd really like to go explore that cove," she said with a little smirk on her maw, her tail flickering as she finally pulled herself away from him and took a few steps forward. She hoped the former king and queen were awake - she didn't particularly want to wait otherwise, and she didn't think her new mate did either.
