Introduction

Solar Kitty-chan
Centuries ago, there was an era of peace that was spread throughout the Solar System, with the heart being the Moon. The people of the Moon were beautiful beings, blessed with a benevolent queen and princess. The two were loved by their people, but this was especially true of the young princess. On a diplomatic journey to the Earth, a fledgling planet at the time, the princess had caught the eye of the Earth's prince. It had been love at first sight for the two young royals. However, their love was one that was forbidden for the Earth was making an attempt to become independent from the Moon, it's long time overseer. Any union between the Earth and the Moon would reignite the finally quelled turmoil among the Earth's inhabitants, many of whom had been swayed by the promises of a darker force wishing for the destruction of all that was good in the universe. Despite knowing this, both young lovers agreed to meet in secret, the feelings between them too powerful to ignore. Young and foolish, they were more concerned with themselves than with the fate of their respective people. And that is where this tale of how two young lovers sealed the fate on the worlds begins....

Princess Serenity stood on the balcony off her bedroom with a far off look in her eye. Her gaze was directed at the blue planet that was ever on the horizon of the Moon, but it was not the planet itself that held her attention. Her mind was focused on the crown prince of that planet, Endymion. They had met only a few days ago while she was on her first visit to Earth, and she had fallen in love with him instantly. She knew that such a union was forbidden at this time, but that was the farthest thing from her mind.

She turned away from the planet and looked down at the letter in her hand. She had received it just today, a letter from Endymion, written under a pseudonym of course. She planned to reply today, so long as she could find enough time alone to write such a letter. Her Senshi would not approve, especially not Venus or Mars. Both would remind her that Earth was at a very critical time now in its progression, and that her union with its prince would push the Earth back generations, if it didn't start an all out war. In reality however, Serenity couldn't understand how such a thing could happen. After all, how could such a wonderful emotion such as love bring hatred and violence?

Quickly, Serenity folded the letter as she heard someone knock at her door. “Come in,” she called, holding the letter in her hands behind her back.

"Princess? Would you like to join us for lunch?" the soft voice Sailor Mercury echoed in Serenity's large room. The princess gave a sigh of relief as she calmed herself down. She had been expecting anyone but the kind hearted Senshi of Ice. Though she would still have to keep her secret closely guarded from the blue haired Senshi, she did not have to keep herself as closely guarded.

With a soft laugh, Serenity turned to face Merucy. "Ah, hai, hai. Lunch sounds good." Her reply to Endymion would have to wait just a little while longer. She could not afford to do anything as suspicious as brushing off her guardians. They were her closest friends and would know something was up with her the moment she started acting distant. With one last glance to make sure her letter was safely tucked away, Serenity rose and joined Mercury by the door. "Shall we go then?" she asked with a smile, genuinely excited about lunch. It meant she got to eat more of Jupiter's delicious cooking.

The blue haired Senshi gave a laugh and reached out to take Serenity's hand. "Of course. Jupiter has prepared some of your favourite foods." She conti9nued to laugh as she saw the joyous sparkle that appeared in Sertenity's eyes. 'Our princess is so simple, it's rather endearing,' she thought as she lead Serenity out of the room and down the long corridor.

As the two of them walked, Serenity chatted happily about unimportant yet interesting subjects, while Mercury mostly nodded and agreed where it was appropriate. That was another reason why she cherished her friendship with Mercury so much. She was able to have a somewhat normal conversation without all the rules and formalities that sometimes the other Senshi would insist upon.

Her conversation trailed off as they neared the dining hall, and she began to smell the delicious aroma of Jupiter's cooking. "Let's hurry." She grabbed Mercury's hand and grinned at her, pulling her along at a faster pace. Mercury just smiled lightly and shook her head at the behavior of the princess.

When they finally entered the massive dining hall, the other Senshi were already there waiting for her. They stood up politely to greet her as she entered, and then waited for her to be seated. She looked around at the familiar faces, and was filled with a sense of contentment knowing that she was surrounded by those who were important to her.

As they talked with each other about some subject she found boring, Serenity tried to pay attention, but her mind drifted for one moment back to thoughts of Endymion. "Are you daydreaming again?" Mars asked. Of course she would notice. Serenity knew she had to be more careful. She couldn't let her guardians become suspicious. Before she could think of an excuse, Jupiter saved her from answering by emerging from the kitchen with large plates of her favorite foods, and Serenity grinned in anticipation of sharing the meal with her guardians and friends.

While there were plenty of palace servants and maids to do the cooking, Jupiter knew that her princess preferred her own cooking over anyone else's. Of course, this meant that a lot of the time, Jupiter would work double duty as a cook as well as a guardian, but she didn't mind. Seeing Serenity's expression as she admired and subsequently devoured her meals was reward enough.

Venus didn't mind putting the conversation on hold briefly while the meal arrived, but Serenity's lack of attentiveness during the conversation hadn't gone unnoticed by the Senshi Leader. Her Princess really did need to learn the importance of political systems beyond her own if she was going to rule over the Silver Millennium one day.

"So what were we discussing?" Jupiter asked as she took her own seat. "More Earth talk?"

Mercury nodded and filled Jupiter in on what she had missed. "We were just discussing the situation there, and if it is truly necessary to continue to watch the Earth even though they are technically under their own rule and in the process of separating from us."

Mars couldn't wait to speak her mind about this subject. "In my opinion, the sooner they are completely separate from us the better. Their ways are just too different from ours. I mean, really. A male dominated society? It will never work, and the sooner we wash our hands of them, the better."

Venus thought that Mars' opinion of Earth was a little harsh, but in an attempt to draw the Princess into the conversation, she choose to not comment at this point. "Princess? What are your thoughts?"

Surprised that Venus was asking for her input, Serenity came up with something on the spot. "I don't think it would work either. Mars is right," she replied, using her chopsticks to pick up a chunk of rice and place it inside her mouth while she made herself appear to be thinking. This stuff was really boring to her, and as such she didn't really know what to think. In her opinion, it didn't matter to her if males dominated a society. She just couldn't let her guardians know that.

"Good. It's impossible to run a nation with men. They're too ignorant and bent on solving things with war." replied Mars.

Jupiter nodded. "It makes sense from that viewpoint. For one thing, I always hear about wars and the like on Earth. Nothing is ever solved that way. If that did solve things, then death would be a thing to look forward to."

Venus nodded. "Agreed. What would be the benefits of watching over the Earth, Princess?" she asked in an attempt to get the Princess to think for a change.

"I...don't know. The Earth is a beautiful place if you go to the right places." she mentioned. "And I think there's a lot of sophistication in some of the humans," Serenity replied to the best of her ability.

"Is that so, Princess? In what way are they sophisticated?" Mars asked as she took a drink of her tea.

"They can think for themselves, they have their own government, and they're starting to progress in their intelligence," the Princess replied defensively.

The slight smirk Mars had on her face showed that she didn't quite agree with her Princess on that particular matter. "But is all that you just mentioned enough?"

Clearly, Serenity did think it was enough. She thought again of Endymion. With him as the Prince, she knew that Earth wasn't as hopeless as the others chose to think.

Serenity still sounded a bit defensive at the words of her Senshi. "I do think it is enough."

Mars opened her mouth again to voice her opinion, but Venus stopped her. She had sensed Serenity's sudden defensiveness, and she decided that an argument wouldn't be profitable at the moment.

Besides, Venus was proud that Serenity was now at least paying attention to the conversation. Usually she looked bored, and this was one of the few times she actually was stating her own opinion with conviction.

"There could be some truth in your words." Venus thoughtfully told Serenity, hoping to encourage her to share more of her thoughts on the matter.

The Princess nodded enthusiastically, and then took another bite of her meal, chewing thoughtfully.

"Then, maybe we need some more information before we make a decision. What do you think?" Jupiter said, addressing everybody, even though her eyes were focused on The Princess.

Serenity thought back to her letter from Endymion while she chewed her food. Before she could remember that she was supposed to be keeping these letters a secret, she blurted out, "The Earth palace is having a ball tonight, we could sneak in and watch!" The fact of the matter was that Endymion's father was holding the ball in hopes of finding his son his future Queen. Serenity certainly didn't like the idea of Endymion being surrounded by women trying to win his heart, but he had assured her that there was no one else in all the galaxy as beautiful as her.

"Princess, how do you know this?" Venus asked. Such a ball had not been mentioned in her presence while they were on Earth, and she had been at the Princess' side most of the time.

Serenity could feel the eyes of her Senshi on her while she tried to think of an excuse for her knowledge. "I just... overheard some servants talking, that's all," she said with a bit of a laugh. Before either Mars or Venus could tell her that it was a bad idea, she continued. "There will be many people present, and most of them don't know what we look like. We would be able to sneak in and look around easily. Plus, we would be able to dress up!"

Mars didn't like this idea at all. "Princess, the people of Earth do not want anyone from the Silver Millennium interfering in their daily lives. If we were to get caught-"

"We won't get caught! We could even use the Ginzuishou's power to hide our identities." Serenity looked around the table at her friends. "It would be fun! We don't have to be there for that long."

Jupiter didn't like the idea of disagreeing with the Princess, but she had no choice but to try to prevent disaster from occurring with the Silver Millennium at fault. "I apologize, Princess, but I don't think it would be fun. It's too much of a risk even if we do hide our identities." she pointed out.

"Too much of a risk?" Serenity pouted. "Well, I think it would be a good idea, and even if you guys don't, I'm going." she said defensively.

"Princess--" Mars started. When Venus put a hand on her shoulder, she knew that she should stop talking and followed that instinct.

Venus took a bite of her meal and chewed before adding a response of her own. "I am glad that you are taking interest in this conversation, Princess, but I believe it is in everyone's best interest to leave the people of Earth alone. If it would make you feel better, we could hold a ball here in this palace."

Serenity took a bite of her meal as well and started to think for a moment. It didn't take long before she came up with a response to counter Venus's suggestion. "Prince Endymion won't be there. It'll be safe." she promised.

Mars and Venus eyed each other skeptically. They both knew this had to be a lie in order to meet with the prince, but it would be difficult preventing their princess from meeting with him if they let down their guard.

Mercury took a bite of her meal and chewed as she nervously tried to come up with a way to defend the Princess, although she didn't approve of their relationship either.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 28, 2009 8:21 pm

Silence filled the room as no one could come up with a way to talk Serenity out of her plan to attend the ball on Earth. The only thing the Senshi could do was have one of them by her side constantly and that would not bode well.

Finally gathering the courage to speak, Mercury took sent a cautious glance at Mars and Venus first. "If the princess is that determined to go, we cannot stop her. At best, we can send a chaperon to make sure nothing happens to cause a bigger rift between us and the people of Earth." She knew she would incur the fury of Mars and Venus but she could not help but feel they were being just a little more harsh than necessary with their princess.

"Mercury, really? Do you mean that?" Serenity asked excitedly, ignoring the fact that Mars and Venus were giving the blue haired Senshi stunned and incredulous looks. She would call them on their behaviour later.

"Do not get the wrong idea, Princess," Mercury cautioned. "I still do not condone your interest in Prince Endymion."

Serenity sat for just a moment in stunned silence. She hadn't realized that her interest in Prince Endymion was common knowledge. Inwardly she scolded herself. She should know that her Senshi would figure it out. She never was good at hiding things from them.

At least Mercury seemed to be on her side. Well at least more than the others were. She looked down at her plate, concentrating on thinking of an appropriate response to her friend's comment.

"I understand." Serenity finally said with the proper amount of respect for the decision in her voice. But just because she understood her friend's concern, it would take more than that to convince her that her feelings for Endymion weren't right.

The Senshi blinked a couple of times in surprise. They thought for sure that Serenity would argue. Mars narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Was their Princess up to something? Before Mars could voice another of her opinions, Serenity started speaking again.

A bright smile was on her face as she spoke. "So if someone will go with me it's okay, right? Even I won't be able to get into trouble with one of you watching out for me!" She gave them her most innocent look, hoping that they would listen to her plea.
