The Lake of Hidden Secrets

User ImageMaion yawned lazily, his eyes feeling heavy as they opened sleepily, the world was shining in its morning glory as the colours floated and swirled with the sunrise. His dreams had been filled with a gentle delight; as a strange soft fuzzy warmth lit up his soul. The memories of the day before played like a concert in his mind, brightly speckled in the world so dull around him. Not every moment had been overly enjoyable, although no accusation came he had felt like he had insulted Scythe a little, yet that did not seem to matter now, now all he wanted to think about was his Moon.

The shocking events that unravelled before his eyes felt like something from a fairy tale, they seemed unrealistic and fake, but he knew them for the truth that they where. There seemed to be a soft devastation within her parents as the knowledge of her speaking to him first had been revealed. It was certainly not something Maion had ever anticipated, he had never questions Moon on her lack of words in their first encounter, nor had he asked about he reasons for her revealing her ability to him. For him it felt like a reward, each word special and deliberate as it delicately rolled from her mouth, he could remember how she had asked him to call her Moon, how she had enquired about his return among other things. His heart began to race as he allowed his mind to wonder, perhaps there was more meaning behind such actions than he had originally thought, after all why had she spoke to him first? He suspected that an answer would not come for a while yet, but this was a notion he was happy with.

The walk home had been magical he enjoyed every detail. It felt to him that they did not need words, yet he enjoyed lavishing her in them.

He thought of the rose and how much it seemed to upset her that it was gone, there was nothing he could do to replace it, and although she did not seem to want something different he could not help but feel the urge to try. He wanted to bring a smile to her face.

Maion looked towards the familiar lake, taking in the gently flowing currents as the swirled and twirled before him, the fish were splashing softly from below the waters glossy surface, a sparkle of life on such a fine morning, just as he was about to stretch his wings he felt something wriggle beneath it, at first he thought it was Elijah she never tended to sleep locked within his tightly coiled hair, yet as he turned his head a shocked yet pleased look sprawled over his face, the colours of blue and green raced towards his eyes. It was Moon that he found nestled within his feathery wings, she felt so warm and for a moment Maion allowed himself to lean towards her, taking in her aura. Moon looked so beautiful to him, even in her sleeping state, her breath was gentle and control, her hair lay softly as odd strands wandered around as the wind trailed through it. He was so happy with her, his heart a flutter with feelings he had never experienced, yet as he watched her he knew, he couldn’t tell her, not yet at least, for now he would simply enjoy her enchanting company. For it was the company of an Angel.

As he listened to the cooling breeze he wondered if he should leave before she woke, yet he knew he would not forgive himself, seeing it almost as abandonment on his behalf. Taking a deep breath he allowed a gentle smile to peel his lips.

Moving his head towards her he nudge her softly, his moist nose gently caressing her cheek as he tenderly tried to stir her from her slumber. It was a strange sensation to him having stayed all night, almost a taboo. Maion knew he would want to ask permission from Scythe and Vara before taking anything too far or fast, as he did not wish to be disrespectful. There was always the possibility that she did not feel the same way about him. Yet he hoped, with every speckled marking sprawled upon his pelt that she did, a lingering desperate cry calling to her from the back of his mind. He wanted to do everything right for her, but so far it had simply been stumble after stumble, he seemed to lose his control around her, say the wrong thing even act in a slightly inappropriate way. He wanted to be her knight in shining armour.

He spoke in a mere whisper towards her ear, a tingling hope wriggling within him, "Moon." He nudged her again, taking in two deep breaths before continuing, "Wake up beautiful." Waiting he watched and listened for a reply. A thought flickered in his mind, the next mission would be to find her a tasty breakfast.

User ImageShe had slept the best she had in ages it felt like. After the day's events, Maion had offered to walk her home, making sure she made it back to her lake safely. They had stayed awake talking, laughing about the way things had unfolded. All in all, it had been a good day.

Sengdroma smiled in her sleep as she replayed the reaction of her father when he realized that Maion had been talking about her....she smiled for the reaction of her mother. Shocked, but accepting as ever. One the initial shock had worn off, Maion and Moon had explained how they had met and how Maion had been courting Moon for the last several weeks. Both Scythe and Vara accepted the news, Vara taking it a little easier than Scythe.

Drifting in and out of her dream state, the birds and their morning song began to fill her ears letting her know it was morning. She sighed slightly. Maion had told her that he would bed down with her until she fell asleep, she didn't expect for him to be there when she woke. She shifted her weight just a little, her eyes still closed. She smiled and laughed to herself softly, she would almost swear that she could still feel him there.

He spoke to her, causing her ears to pivot and she opened one eye to look around. It indeed, was morning, but Maion was still with her! She turned her head and burrowed into his long flowing locks of mane, her nostrils taking in his scent. "Good morning..." she managed to get out as she lazily debated on trying to get up and stretch.

A lingering excitement bubbled up with Maion as he watched her stir softly, he had nothing within his limited experience that could even allow him to compare it to this situation, nor did he want to. There was something special about each and everyone moment he spent with her. Something unique. So much so he wished that it could never be repeated, for that would simply make it seem less ‘perfect’ in his mind. Though something told him, that although he felt that now nothing would really make him feel that way. It was hard to comprehend.

Smiling he listened to her every word, pleased that she continued to gift them upon her despite the shock her parents displayed at her ability, it was something that confused him slightly yet such confusion seemed unfounded in the grander scheme of things. Sighing he simply pushed such thoughts to the back of his mind, there where many things in life that he would simply never know.

Leaning in towards her slowly he softly kissed her cheek, a rough glowing smile peeled upon his lips as he withdrew gently. The morning sun lit the sky with such fascinating colours that he could not help but look at them; it was all so different to their usual greetings under the Moon light, perhaps this was simply the start of something new. He could only hope. His heart beating strongly within his chest.

Turning his head he nipped at her mane softly before asking, "Would you like some breakfast" he paused for a moment, adding only in his head the word darling, it was strange that he would even consider such pleasantries between them, he had always called her Moon since the day he gifted her with it. Yet now he felt as if he needed to adapt his approach, he was worried she would quickly grow bored of him. He continued, his voice strong and playful, "I saw some juice berries near by, I…" pausing again he recalled how Scythe had instructed him in collecting them, they had been a gift for Vara his mate, and Moon’s mother. How similar things seemed back then, he laughed softly without thinking. Perhaps it was a good thing that everything turned out so nicely.

Remembering he had finished mid sentence he continued "...was taught by the best."

"Mmmm" she stretched a little under his wing, "I'd love some berries." She thought of her parents and how happy they were together. Berries were a gift that her father often brought home to her mother. She smiled at the thought, unknowing that Maion had in fact gotten the idea from Scythe.

She shifted her weight so that she leaned into his body, she yawned briefly. "I thought you had to leave...." she closed her eyes again and just rested, enjoying the moment with Maion. She wasn't sure why he hadn't left, he had never stayed longer than sunrise with her. She was thankful though, at least she didn't have to wonder when he would return this time. It was nice having someone to wake up next to, especially someone that she found as bewitching as Maion. She hoped they would have many mornings like this together. She didn't let her thoughts move to the fact that he would soon have to leave to tend to his duties.

"Sleep well?"

Her words were still few and far between, but they were coming more frequently than ever before. They seemed to roll so naturally off of her tongue when he was around, as if she had always been talking to everyone. She enjoyed having someone to talk to....and having someone who would listen.

((Sorry for any mistakes, my spell checker is not available as I am using notepad, not loaded word on here yet.))

Maion caressed her side gently, fluttering his feathers so that they show her a brief glimpse of his affection. He knew how he felt yet her own thoughts and feelings where a complete mystery to him, one he was hoping to solve one day. Smiling he nodded at her request for berries, he knew that it was likely that just like her Mother Vara she would also love them. There was still so much that he did not know about her, yet as his eyes caught sight of the rising sun he knew that he would give her all the time that remained in his life, if of course she was willing. Turning her faced her again, lips revealing his white teeth as he smiled, she was beautiful, the shining light only magnifying this truth.

His smile faded as her next words reached him, somehow he felt that he was a little harsh towards her, after all he was always the one leaving, yet at the same time he was also the one he searched for her so that they could be reunited. What a strange mix of feelings, he could only hope that she would not recent him for feeling bound to the Ocean. Yet as he looked into her eyes his smile slowly returned, it was indeed nice spending the night beside her, holding her close and waking up to see her sparkling face. Fluttering his feather once more he allowed his nose to nuzzle her neck tenderly before replying, "I felt I had more important things to do." His smile beamed happily towards her, a slight gulp in the back of his throat as he continued, "after all..." he paused, nervous about the words that were tethered on the edge of his tongue, counting slowly to three in his head he continued, "...like watching over the most beautiful mare in all the land and sky."

He nodded at her final question, the truth was that he did not sleep much, about the same as usual. He spent most of the night watching her sleep, listening and paying attention for any creatures that may bid them harm. He couldn't sleep for his mind was swirling with the images of what could be, yet in each scene he seemed to destroy everything he had worked so hard to build, just like his inappropriate outbursts in their previous encounters he would say and do things without warning eventually driving a wedge between them. Yet as the light glowed upon the world her smile joined it, she seemed happy, perhaps he would simply need to leave in the moment and not worry too much about what his actions could do. Chuckling slightly to himself he spoke, "Well thank you. How about yourself Moon?" Nuzzling her neck again he slowly stood to his feet. His goal for now was to find her the best breakfast he could. His eyes lingering on a the nearby bush. He faced her for a moment. "Stay here, please." His heart was a flutter as he stepped towards them. They looked tender and juicy, perfect for a breakfast for two.

Leaning forward he picked them in the manner he was showed previously he collected them softly into his mouth ready to return to Moons side. Happy with his harvest he turned and witha slight trot he headed back towards her lowering his head and dropping them in a clumspy pile on the ground. His smile was beaming as he looked towards her, he had not waited long enough to see Varas reaction last time, leaving shortly after the delivery yet now he had no way of escape, only the hope that she would like them in a similar manner to how she seemed to like the rose. Slowly he lowered himself to the ground once more.

"The most beautiful mare..., his words rang in her ears. He knew exactly what to say to make her feel special. She couldn't help but to smile and blush. She loved how Maion made her feel...she loved how she felt even when he wasn't speaking to her.

"That's the best I've slept in ages..." her words trailed as a yawn escaped her lips, forming back into a childlike grin as she looked to Maion. "Thank you." she nuzzled him again gently before he rose.

Her eyes gleamed, watching every step that her giant made. She watched as his mane and tail seemed to almost dance in the light breeze that was present. "How did you get this lucky, Moon? she thought to herself as she watched Maion pluck berries from the bushes in the distance.

Upon his return, she waited for him to take his place back at her side. Her smile grew as she looked down at his offer to her. Gently, she took a group of berries between her teeth, then looked to Maion. She moved her head and locked her eyes with his, offering him the first taste of the rewards of the morning. Many times she had seen her father 'feed' her mother out of love. It was an act that she didn't understand...until now. She would wait for him to have the first taste before she ate.

Maion felt as if he was flying although this was the longest amount of time he had ever spend in one place, around one individual, yet as he caught her delicate glance into his eyes he could not help but beam with a smile, it seemed like he was truly blessed, and if she would ask it of him he would happily remain upon the Earth with her forever, never attempting to fly again in fear that he would lose her. Still looking at her he lowered his head and used his tongue to maneuver a few of the berries into his mouth, he imagined he was not the most elegant of eaters, but considering how long he had been a lone that was no real surprise.

Slowly he raised his head once more and closed his teeth together, his lips covering them gently in their attempt to trap the juices within his mouth. The berries exploded in a bath of flavors as the succulent ready purple liquid ran over the taste buds on his tongue, his left eye flinched for a moment as the flavors from a particularly sour berry. Sipping and moving his head slightly so that the rest disappeared down his throat he kept a close eye upon Moon. It occurred to him that although he knew how he felt about her it was clear that he knew little about her. His mind flickered to their last near silent encounters, trailing gently into their more recent ‘introductions’ and night spent together. He gulped softly thinking carefully about his wording.

"Moon," he paused for a moment, licking the small droplet of juice that had escaped him. "I would like to know more about you." He blushed slightly though thankfully he knew that in this light it was less likely to show. "What is your goal in life? The one thing you feel most drawn to do?"

She watched with a quiet smile as Maion took the first taste of the berries. Once he had begun to chew, she took up a few for herself, smiling as the berries broke and the sweet treats began to turn to mush between her teeth. She was slowling beginning to understand the feelings that her parents had for the other. It was something magical to her, she could only hope that one day her other siblings would be able to understand.

She continued to eat silently until Maion spoke. Her ears became alert as she listened to his voice, she could listen to him speak for eternity. His voice soothed her very soul. She finished the mouth full of berries she was working on before answering.

Her head tilted a bit in a thought, "My goal?"....she pondered this for a moment. She knew exactly what she wanted in life, but she was afraid that it would sound silly to Maion. "You promise you won't laught at me?" she looked over to him, and almost embarassed look on her face.

"I know it sounds silly...I'm just a grounded mare....but...." she stopped, taking in a deep breath and closing her eyes. She didn't want to see Maion's face if he laughed at her. "I, I want a family. But more than that...I want to be like my father. I want to be able to protect them from any harm that comes....I want to fight...I want others to look to me for advice...." she laughed a little at herself, "...I'll never be my father, though..." her voice trailed off as she waited for Maion's response.

He nodded politely at her request, "I won’t laugh. Not at you."

Maion listened intention, his heart began to flutter within his chest as each word left her delicate looking lips with a twisting dance. She was hypnotic, to him she was the drug that he craved so much and the words that escaped her lips now only added to the effect she had upon him. He was intrigued about he dream, he would never have placed that particular one on her, of course he expected she wanted a family but to feel like she needed to live up to her father. The image of Scythe flashed into his mind, he was indeed strong and powerful, a creature that he would not willingly want to fight. Perhaps she saw something in him that he did not, or maybe it was the powerful aura that emanated from his person.

By nature Maion disliked fighting, he only ever did when it was required now, he was long past the need to prove himself, happy now by the situation he found himself in, yet he suddenly felt the need to make her dream come true. She wanted to gain strength, he would help her. Slowly he spun the words over in his head and spoke in a low tone, "You do not need to be your father." He looked at her, intent on catching her eyes for a glimpse into her soul; he smiled softly and continued, "You are Moon, my Moon." He paused once more, although this was true he knew she wanted to grow stronger so he continued. "But..." He took a deep breath and looked to the ground, "I can help you, I think." After all if she wanted to start a family with him he would be more than happy to, that was something he definitely hoped would be on the cards for their future. He loved her; she was the centre of his world now. At the second part of her goal he wondered more about that, he would not be able to help her directly, after all the possibility of harming her was deep within the realms of his nightmares.

"I know a good mentor." He looked at her once more, still softly smiling hoping that he would actually be able to see her goal come true. The mentor he had in mind was a strong stallion, a fluttercorn which made him larger than most flutters but not as large as a normal soquili. He had shown Maion the true taste of defeat, his moves had been surprising, caught Maion off guard, that seemed the right kind of training for Moon. Yet he knew it wouldn’t be easy, the hope that she felt the same way lingered in the back of his mind. He knew now that he did not want to leave her. He wanted to stay beside her and watch her grow, yet for her to be the best she would need him to be out of sight and out of mind.

She was relieved to know that Maion didn't find her goals in life to be humorous. Most would say that a grounded could never be up to par with the other breeds. The unicorn had their horns, the winds had wings, angeni's had strength among other traits....and kalonas and skinwalkers...they were just born killers.

Her heart fluttered at the sound of his voice, "His Moon...", his words registered in her ears. As he said he could help her, she took a deep breath. "This is it...this is it Sengdroma!" she thought to herself. Tonight would be the night that he would say he cared for her..this would be the night that she could tell him how he made her feel without even speaking..this....her brain froze. "Mentor?"....

....Her heart dropped to her stomach. He knows a mentor?

That...That was not was she was hopeing to hear from him tonight. She blinked in silence. Shocked, she tried her best to cover her emotions. "You do?" she questioned, not sure how else to act as though that had been what she was expecting. "Do you.....Do you think he'll train me?" her voice began to fade.

She looked down at the pile of berries that still lay before them. Her appetite was lost. "He knows a mentor," she drew in a deep breath. Disappointment took over.

Maion gulped slightly at the sudden change in the atmosphere, had he said something wrong? Had she clicked so quickly to the plan that slowly began to formulate within his mind. A guilty twinge struck his insides as he lowered his heads and closed his eyes. Perhaps he could tutor her himself, yet he felt that striking her would be near impossible, he wanted her to be able to actually defend herself, not simply have him allow her to hit him and ‘win’ their pretend battle, she was worth more, everything in fact.

Yet as these thoughts rolled over and over in his mind he wondered what she was thinking, how would she react if he just told her now how he felt, would that shield her partially from the pain he would inflict when he left her to fulfil her dream or was that just the same as filling her heart with hope before ripping it still beating from her chest? He was not sure; everything was so new to him now, so he had no experiences to draw upon to help him. Sighing he opened his eyes once more and looked towards her once more, a soft crystal like tear began to trickle down his eye but he shook his head to shake the tiny droplet to the ground. He could not be weak for her, this was necessary, that much he was sure about.

As he cold, empty words reached his ears he answered in an almost false manner, overenthusiastic in an attempt to get her interested and excited about the opportunity that would shortly unfold before her eyes. "Yeah he is a good soquili, strong, brave, and mighty." He remembered their fight, that particular memory would always seemed to taunt him, but the skills he had watched had surprised him, such a small creature had managed to take advantage of his size and strength, this was what he wanted for his delicate mare. He laughed in his head, ‘his’ how could say that, he had no guarantee that she would want him, she was worth so much more, yet he knew that his heart was now set and would never change from its current course. The fate of an Angeni perhaps? Once again he had no experiences to draw upon to help him.

Continuing his overenthusiastic conversation he spoke once more, "He is an expert at using his disadvantage to his advantage." Once again he attempted to imagine the perfect ocean coloured mare but this time in a more aggressive pose attempting to attack a foe in order to protect a three beautiful foals of blue, black and white. Their foals.

It was then that he looked to the small pile of berries, they seemed empty thoughts now, perhaps this was not a good idea? For a moment he looked from her to the berries before he leaned down and slowly nudged them closer to her, his eyes almost pleading that she eat, he wanted to ensure that she was fit and healthy before such aggressive training, he could not bare to even imagine her getting hurt let alone see it come into reality. Speaking low, almost in a whisper, "Please Moon," now almost pleading he spoke once more, "for me!" In his head he included ‘if that means anything to you’.

She took a deep breath and looked down to the berries. She waited for Maion to finish talking and took a few more berries into her mouth, slowing chewing. Her appetite had left her. Her thoughts were buzzing, was this Maion's way of getting rid of her?

"I'm sure he'll be a great mentor..." She paused for a moment. She couldn't let Maion know how badly he had hurt her. She puffed up her chest and looked up at him. "When do we leave?" she could do this, she would be the best student this Soquili ever had.

She had been waiting for the perfect time to confess her feelings...at the beginning of the night, she had thought tonight would be the time. She was sorely mistaken. How could she have been so naive?

"Maion..." she forced a yawn. "I think I'd like to bed down for the night..." her words trailed off.

Disappointment began to spread quickly through his body, the effect of his actions and words seemed to settle quickly and he found himself panicking that he was going to loose her. Especially at her cold, short statements. He was just a fool, how dare he call himself an Angeni when he can not care for the one person in all of the lands that truly made him feel whole. Biting back the urge to soothe her he spoke, his voice hoarse, it came out in lumps, difficult almost forced, "Tomorrow," he sighed looking towards the lake with all its hidden secrets, "The sooner we go, the sooner I will have you back after all." It seemed pointless to try, he wanted so much to stay with her, to be the sole protector of her and any family they could wish to produce yet that dream was so distant, so far away now. He was just an ordinary speck upon a vast canvas. Perhaps his only cause in her life was to lead her to her future and then to leave. It was a painful, bitter notion.

It was in that moment, as his head turned to absorb her tender beauty for the last time his mind formulated a plan. If he was to leave her, if he was to lose her, he wanted to leave her with at least one happy memory of him. Something that he could hope she would think about in the dark of night when the rest of her life had slotted itself into place. He leaned closer to her, her scent bit at the back of his nose harshly, she smelt so delicious, far more tempting than any forbidden fruit he had heard of, she was the ultimate taboo. It was then that she spoke his name, it sent an electrifying chill through his body, the hairs of his pelt standing to attention, his senses flared, everything felt so much more important now, everything seemed to flood into his soul with far more detail and impact than anything he had ever experienced. He felt torn, torn between his desires and her request. Moving his head towards his ear he was determined, whispering almost in a rush of words and emotions, "Not yet Moon." He kissed her tender ear softly; it felt cooler than the warmth he could feel coming from her face. "I..." He failed at finding the words and resorted to actions instead, moving his position so that he was close to her once again, his breath ruffling the hairs upon her face as he allowed his eyes to linger with her own for a moment. His heart racing. His heart wanted nothing more than her, nothing more now than to forget his horrible plan. He would make it up to her, he would prove himself. Most of all he wanted her to always want him.

Suddenly he leaned in towards her, his lips roughly touching her own in a passionate kiss, he could only hope that she would return it. Only hope that he could show her his true passionate side. No words could describe what he was feeling now.
