Just a thought that I had. Current scenario at the Celebration Collective:

Artists joins, artists submits art, artist is MIA; not appearing in the thread, no new submissions, in some cases not even confirming their payment, get new artists, not many people purchasing, so artists are a little meh about making new stuff.

So, my thought was, what would be people's opinions on there being a periodic artist renewal? I have no real details of the idea on how this would work; could be anything from simply requiring them to say "Yeah, I still want to be an artist" to requiring at least one new piece of art. Might help boost sales a bit as well as renew people's interest in the collective; artists and buyers alike.

Also was thinking that with each update, making a notation on the front page of the collective of who new artists are and what old artists have new stuff.

And on a final note, does anyone believe there should be any sort of guidelines as far as quality of art, as well as if a person is known to have stolen art from minishops, esp another artists shop? I bring this up because of a few recent examples of both that have come to my attention and I'm curious as to others feelings on this. This could stretch over into other collectives, too. I'm not going to mention any specific names at this time. I will say, however, these concerns don't involve the majority of people in this collective. And when I mean guidelines for quality, this is very very flexible. In other words, I'm meaning outright poor quality. Not meaning requiring a certain program to be used, time spent, shading, ect. Nothing outrageous like that. And if you're still wondering what I mean, an example I did of said poor quality:

I'm going to be honest, I'm offended when I see stuff such as this. There's so many wonderful artists, both old and new. And they work hard on what they do. Maybe others have thought this as well, I dunno. I kinda hate to be the bad guy and be the one to bring it up, but if people feel that way and yet not one says a thing...

Thoughts?

I am behind you in all this - I definitely feel like some people join and submit (for lack of a better word) crap, either so they can get the artist discount or so they can get a "paycheck".

I thought it was required that artists had to respond if they were still interested in continuing their participation.

I agree as well.
Personally, when I felt I didn't have time to actively participate in the celebration collective, I asked to be removed. I didn't think it was fair of me to stay when I wasn't planning on submitting more items.
I think a periodic reapplication for that specific collective is definitely needed. Also maybe asking for a new item from each artist each month?

I had thought about that, requiring a new art each month or at the most every 2 and if not provided, temporarily suspending their participation until they submit new art.

I'm thinking when we go to make changes, closing the collective until it's done. Any thoughts on making a new thread for the collective? Like, fresh start, new thread. Or just leave it the way it is?

Like I said in the thread, don't like to step on people's toes esp since I'm fairly new to participation in these but no one else has taken the initiative yet so...

It would also be good if two or three people could access the website when changes need to be made. That way all of that work does not fall on just one person.

I agree with periodically needing to renew, though, as in my case, it's not that I'm not interested, just that I have a lot on my plate, and I forgot to submit the things I colored. ^^; I'm not sure if I missed November or not. >>; Actually, since it's the 23rd, I'm pretty sure I did. I'll submit it with December's stuff. *sigh*

Maybe a mass PM requiring a response within a certain time period?

The idea of noting who has new stuff is a good one. That way you can navigate right to there instead of having to browse the whole site again.

I agree with the quality idea as well, though I'm not sure how to create standards that are flexible enough. There would have to be more than one person making that judgment, or could get very subjective.

          i agree with this idea as well
          i mean i know that i might be suspended
          but i think it's just not fair to other artists
          especially those graphics that lacks in quality
          and i agree with lissa about the website

          maybe for the judgment of graphics,
          when they want to join,
          we should see their samples and accept them or not
          cause that's what they do in collab auctions
          and this is a collab shop

I wasn't thinking about suspending any artist yet. Rather, getting stuff straightened out 1st; removing artists with poor quality work, artists who haven't accepted trade payments for months now, ect. Also, the time span between required new submissions is of course up for discussion. And I think around the large collective times, this should be more flexible. I know I've been too busy with them, my own shop, and other stuff I didn't get anything in for November, as well. xp

Mass pming renewal would be good. We'd need a set response time. Something that's fairly flexible because I know some people aren't on every day and in some cases longer than that due to lack of time. Anyone have any ideas?

Having more than one person access the website is a good idea. We should talk to Depp about that.

Yeah, it shouldn't be up to one person to decide. Have some people designated to decide on the graphics. Spade has a good idea with judging the samples I think. It'd just have to be made clear that the samples should reflect the quality they're going to submit.

Fayt - Actually, I've brought up the issue of people submitting "crap" before in past Collectives. ^^;
The response I got from Kitsune_rei and the like was that if we judged or limited the art that is submitted, we would lose the essential spirit of the Collective - that anyone and everyone can participate, no matter how good or bad they are. It's the spirit that counts, not the money, blah, blah, blah. So judging art = not so great idea in the eyes of the Collective Goddesses. ^^;;

However, I do believe that making a fresh start would be a great idea. I know that I've personally been skipping giving myself payments since...well...the beginning, because I believe I simply don't deserve it with my one little edit from May. ^^;; And while it would be a pain to require everyone to keep up with the Collective, it's true that a lot of people just submit and run off, so you're right - something needs to be done to clean it up a bit. >w<;

A required response wouldn't be a bad idea...I suggest maybe a month or so (30 days) for the time limit. :3 And if they come back after that, they can always submit again if they really want to, but they'll be taken off the website/artist list until they do.
