Who: Josh & Alex, LuLu & Zul When: Afternoon Where: Lab 305 Weather: Moderate, cool breeze The woman chewed her thumbnail with great attentiveness. It was less a nervous habit and more a nasty case of hang nail, but her venture to remove it had been forgotten as she walked in slow circles around the front room of the new Lab. It wasn't the first time she'd seen it, but the first time she'd had the opportunity to give it a good looking over. Green eyes swept over the brand spankin' new furniture, modern interior and wide front desk with silent consideration, a bemused smile ticking her lips; this was the Lab that belief built. A belief, truthfully, that she had taken part of. She was constantly amazed with each new person she met that was affiliated with the building and its precious contents; all such different, diverse walks of life with different stories to tell. Now that she was directly involved with helping the place out, she was even more enthralled with the unspoken stories that went into soul capture and binding of essences. Iorek had been her first venture in such things, and now there was a beautiful Frei beyond the back doors for a familiar name: Josh. Releasing her captive digit from her lips, the woman stuck her hands in her pockets, chuckling at how things seemed to come back to her. Alex waited with a smile, ever pacing, but patient. These things couldn't be rushed. --- The new girl was not left alone, of course. By insistance of his woman, Zul found himself unwittingly 'babysitting' the newest addition, even though he himself was not yet a month into existance. He found a certain sense of irony in being left and trusted as responsible already, but it wasn't something he was going to challenge. The dark-skinned Frei floated around the room, brilliant blue eyes observing each object and item within his grasp, wrapping his fingers around that which he was able, feeling and absorbing the texture and make of whatever held his fancy. Currently, it was a simple ball-point pen; he had seen his woman use them before, and had been utterly fascinated by the sharp clicking sound it made, a simple device of such immense use. Zul often found himself entranced by the simplest things if they had a use, something that rather unnerved Alex. With a satisfied nod, he put the pen back down, again turning his attention to the femme. Now this, this was far more fascinating than any human contraption. It was largely due in part to the fact she looked much like him: sun-kissed skin, light hair, wings of bone. It automatically made her attractive, and as such, he had no qualms with admiring her from a distance, ever present smile set in silent consideration.

Zul would not have to deal with the discomfort of sneaking quick glances across a room at the newborn raevan for long. The newborn raevan had solved this problem for him. A pair of straw yellow rabbit ears were comfortably tucked away in the nape of his neck. Her soft hair and fur barely tickled Zul’s swarthy chest. The newborn raevan hung close by the older raevan. She barely moved aside from the way her ears occasionally shivered signaling the fact she was still alive. Her head was lowered; however, her eyes could just be seen through the dusty blond curtain of her hair. It was obvious that fear was glowing in the newborn raevan’s lilac orbs.
Everything was… different. This room was different. These trinkets around her were different. The people who walked about the other rooms were different. Zul was the only thing that made sense in this world to her. She clung desperately to this one shred of familiarity.
Tan skin… familiar. Wings… familiar. Light hair…. familiar.
If he made sense, then why didn’t everything else? The newborn raevan’s attention began to circle around the smooth object that Zul was occupied with. Her eyes locked with his. An unusual comfort arose in her when she found those lustrous blue eyes staring back. It felt like small prickles of ice running down her spine…. Or however much spine she had. He wasn’t afraid to explore the unusual things that where on all sides of them. The older raevan appeared to her as a gallant knight who could defeat the obscurity closing around them. She consoled herself. Perhaps, he could make sense of things for her instead? The intense gaze she had mustered trailed down to follow Zul’s hand as he set the metallic bauble down. Her own small hand reached down to touch the pen. The newborn raevan’s thin, brown fingers tentatively traced around the object before finally venturing forth to make actual contact with its surface. She cringed. Then just as suddenly she softened. The object had not hurt her… she was safe. The newborn raevan picked up the pen and held it up to Zul. Her voice rung out like a small bell, “Different… what is it?”

Josh’s car nearly skidded into the parking lot. A few wayward alley cats managed to just duck out of the way of his squealing tires. The boy’s hands clutched onto the steering wheel, they had turned a pallid white. He removed his viselike grip on the wheel after much struggle to calm his nerves. Josh’s hands betrayed all his efforts as they began to shake. He was on pins and needles. Today was THE day. Josh had never thought that he would actually receive THE call from the Lab. Perhaps, catching that soul had been a cruel joke. Perhaps, someone else had gotten his raevan. Perhaps, there has been a mix-up?! Josh shuddered and rested his head on his hands. Perhaps…. He just needed to calm down.
He stepped from his car and walked towards the Lab. There was an anxious bounce in his step that undermined all his attempts to appear collected. Nevertheless, Josh made it to the large sliding doors indicating the entrance to the Lab… panic attack free, of course. The boy stepped inside. The gust of warm air he was met with did nothing to blow down his tension. Josh scanned the waiting room.

It pleased the male greatly that the femme had seen him as a safeguard; he was a strong one, prideful and now had the company of a one like him. Life was good.
Zul was mindful to tilt his head every now and again, aware of the spikes on his neck and the sensitive ears that curled close to them. He even allowed himself to rest his cuff-bearing arm around her back just below her wings, idly stroking her sun-golden hair. He'd seen his woman do it to Zul Too when the small dragon had first caught sight of him, and it had soothed the little green beast considerably; nothing wrong with applying that logic here, now was there?
Eyes of bright azure shifted to watch her move, his smile wide at her delicate voice. He made a great display of taking the pen from her hand, very gentle and insistant, pressing his thumb over the metal cap, the spring within revealing the nub on the opposite side. "Pen," he replied in his own husky voice, one that promised to deepen in time. He looked over the table, gaze skimming the random items before finding what he was hoping for. "Ah," he exclaimed quietly, floating towards some documents, coaxing the girl to say near.
"See," he explained knowledgably, pressing the end of the pen onto the paper, looping the ink in hard circles. Zul lifted it once more, offering it to her, indicating she should try as well.
---
Alex didn't think much of the screeching outside, contributing it to the traffic on Gambino, but was pleasantly surprised when Josh came through the doors. "Hey!" she greeted the younger man happily, approaching him with an extended hand. "Josh, right? Good to see you again, oh, and Lorenzo - my Gwee - thanks you for the stuffed animal he added to his hoard." She chuckled lightly, hoping the description was enough to jog the Guardian's memory.
"I wont keep you with pleasantries," she continued on with a sparkle in her eye, "because we have important things to discuss, don't we?" She tilted her dark head to the side, starting to walk back towards the desk in the waiting room. "I just need your signature that you know you're here to pick up a Raevan...and then I'll be happy to take you to see for yourself." Alex gave another vague smile, almost mischevious. She hadn't seen many female Raevans, and quite frankly, she'd be surprised if Josh didn't lose his teeth at the sight of her. She herself had gaped for a time more indecent than acceptable.
Her green eyes turned over the information, double-checking the information for any corrections; soul, fel essence, owner's name were all in place, handing over the clipboard and pen with a smile. "At the bottom. We'll worry about the name in a minute." Another playful twinkle in her eye and quirk of her lips. It occured to her she might have been being a bit more sadistic than was allowed on the job site.

The frei’s wings gave a abrupt flutter as she felt a slender arm wrap around her. The cream hued bones that made up her wings cracked and grated against one another for the first time; delicate patterns blended together into a blur of cheery red and delightful lilac. Her eyes fluttered down at the intrusive limb. Sure enough, she found a lightly tanned arm circling her small frame. At first, she stiffened against the foreign touch; however, as time trickled by she felt calmed by the feeling of Zul’s fingers idly brushing her hair and back.
The frei’s eyes slid back up to meet his; they were veiled slightly by half closed eyelids and thick lashes. Her own hand reached around him to stroke curiously at the older raevan’s back. Her fingers came in contact with a rough column of bone. Her hand continued its exploration upward. She peeped softly as she came into contact with each new texture and object. Spikes, scales, leather… All new experiences to her.
She barely noticed that the pen has been taken from her until she heard a sharp metallic click by her face. The newborn flopped about in a mix of awe and fear. She jumped back from Zul and his exotic charm. She stared at the pen again with frantic eyes. Was it on the attack?! Why had it changed forms?!
The newborn saw the thoughtful gaze that had passed over Zul’s face. She also watched as him float across the room. She also witnessed him stop. Zul appeared to have found what he was searching for. She saw him… the pen…. and A NEW CHALLENGE! Her eyes widened in horror. Not only did she now face this dreadful pen, but now she was also confronted by a mysterious white rectangle with black scrawl scattered about it. Was it some sort of spell? A hex? The raevan squeaked as Zul directed her to come over. He want HER over THERE?!
‘Scribble-Scribble-Scribble’
Her ears perked up at the peculiar noise Zul was eliciting by putting the pen to paper. The frei felt pulled closer. Once again, Zul appeared as a hero to her. He used his magical trinket to defeat the vile white beast. She felt drowned in the sound of the fiend’s death cry.
“Scribble-Scribble-Scribble” That was the sound of the monster meeting its demise.
She froze as the pen was shoved ever so genially in her face. Her hand shook as she reached up for the object. Would she be able to control this kind of power? Something that could defeat the white beast. The raevan huffed. If he thought she could do it, then she could. She tenderly clutched the pen and pressed it against the paper. She began a series of slow circles; each new loop seemed to gain intensity though. Within seconds she had the pen shredding across the document at fleeting speeds. A frenzy of scribbles danced and curved across the paper.
~~~~
Josh seemed to be lost in all the words that the woman before him had gushed. He fought through the onslaught and shuffled the content away into the correct places. Somehow, he had been led all the way across the waiting room before the information had registered in his brain. The warmth from their handshake earlier still clung about his hand. He perked up, “Yes! It is wonderful to see you again. Alex wasn’t it?” He flushed lightly hoping he had remembered the correct name. He grasped the clip board and swiftly wrote his name; a few loops and curves were thrown off by his nerves. He was so close to seeing a raevan… HIS raevan.
He didn’t know what to expect.
He was quite unfettered by her previously explorative touch over his back and neck, and was thus unsurprised by her strange and curious reactions to such mundane things. Zul was not above himself to remember his own disorientation not that long ago, although he had kept most of his musings to himself. Her constant recoil and apparent horror of the paper and pen was borderline fascinating to him, finding her timid nature to be endearing. There was something enthralling about her complete trust in him, and it was not something he'd easily relinquish.
Bright eyes of blue topaz remained fixed upon her demure amethyst ones, smile growing in size as she debated. There was an ample amount of pride to be built upon there, a sense of worth that promised much more insight to her personality; his musings ceased as she accepted the pen from his fingers, his observations returning at her mistrusting regard of the paper. Amusement tugged at the curl of his lips as the paper was reduced to tatters, inclining his head even though she could not see him in her enjoyment. "Very good," he complimented the femme, "perfect." If he was referring to the Frei herself or her antics, it was undistinguished.
Leaning his hands upon the table, he peered over her shoulder to watch, satisfied by her reaction. Deciding she was worth the effort of asking, he posed the innocent question, "What is your na--?"
---
"Yes," Alex preened inwardly. It always pleased her when she was remembered, at least when it was in a positive light. Judging by his reaction, it wasn't a bad memory to recall from, and thus, he was A-Okay in her book. She took the clipboard back from him as the pen left the document, looking it over one last time before nodding to herself, withdrawing a small ring of keys from her pocket and locking the contract within a drawer on the desk. "All set." Green eyes glinted with excitement, resting again upon the young man. "Let's go."
The woman turned and nearly bounced down the hallway, her endless ebb and flow of energy brimming today. She was at least as excited as Josh was nervous, keeping her gaze constantly to the side to make sure the seemingly uncertain man wouldn't bolt without warning. Their trek took them beyond a few closed doors on the left and open on their right; the latter were dormant, as it seemed she and the doctor - who was quite busy at the moment - were the only two there at that time.
At the end of the hall was their destination, a dead-end with a large door in front of them, a staircase to the left. Alex glanced to Josh again, smiling widely before giving a polite knock. Not that she expected an answer, but courtesy was still automatic in her. "Hey, we're coming in," she announced, opening the door to admit Josh within the confines of the laboratory to meet his Raevan.
"--me?" He was not pleased to be interrupted, lifting his attentions to the door, his smile wilting only faintly around the edges before returning with extra watts. His woman had arrived...with another, the one he could only surmise was to be the new Reavan's man. Zul was faintly displeased by the notion, wings spreading momentarily in his own type of defiance before floating a little closer to the newest Frei. He hadn't even gotten her name!
LuLu reclined back to see Zul’s familiar sun kissed face looming over her shoulder comfortingly. She held up the shredded paper in his direction. A few fragments flew off the page at the older frei like text filled confetti. In a way, it marked her success. She felt washed in his praise. Even if it was two words, “very good”, it still meant the world to the newborn. It was worth reducing the Lab’s documents into a pile of scraps only suitable for hamster bedding if it meant she was able to hear those sentiments from someone like Zul. Her face broken into a pristine, delicate smile. If fit tidily on her face and showed just the perfect mixture of pride and elation.
~~~~~
Josh fluttered about Alex in a nervous hum. His anxiety seemed to be running circles around him. Aelx’s enthusiasm only seemed to feed his edginess. He really did seem like an expectant father the way he was pensively meandering after the Lab employee. Each door they passed by seemed like an punch in the gut to him. Which one would have his newborn raevan behind it? Left. Right. Left. Right. Every one turned up fruitless. Finally, they reached the end of the hall. All that torture for this. They could go no further.
Josh nearly jumped when the woman’s knuckles wrapped against the door.
~~~~~
LuLu turned to the door then Zul expectantly. He was her protector. He was supposed to answer it. As for his question, her ears drooped in confusion. A name? Did she even have one? Her smile faltered then fell pack into her inquisitive pout. “None…”
Alex smiled at Josh and pushed open the door, in time to reveal her own Raevan quite close to the newborn.
Zul floated closer, tilting his head to the side. "Very good," he repeated warmly, blue eyes resting upon the other's dark face, not even acknowledging the others as the door opened. One hand reached around her winged back to clasp the shredded remains, holding her hand there to support her efforts of the scribbling frenzy. Perhaps, to humans, such a close proximity was awkward or a bad thing, but to the demonic Frei, he was keeping her with him. He was close enough their ribbons brushed, and he was far too enthralled with those drooping ears to pay any mind to what the humans would think.
"You are pretty," he commented, as though it explained all mysteries, "your name will be too." He didn't know who was the Giver Of Names, as his woman hadn't given him his. The name he bore was something he felt he was born with, that the one who voiced it out loud simply knew the fact; he hoped the same would be for the delicate femme with him, especially if it would satsify that questioning pout. "Promise."
The woman blinked, glancing to Josh. Well. This was...awkward. It was like walking in on your kids kissing or something. It did not, however, dampen Alex's excitement, extending her arm inwards towards the room. "I'm sure you can tell, since you know the elements of your Raevan," he green eyes twinkled, "but if you need a hint, the horned one is mine."
"Zul," he corrected his woman, finally turning his crystalline gaze towards her. His gaze flicked to the male, one who seemed younger than Alex; this was who his Raevan woman was going home with? This would not do! "A name?" he asked in his soft, smokey voice, releasing the female's arm and instead taking her hand so that he was holding both of them, his motions careful, even turning so that his partial body was something of a protective barrier between her and the humans. "For her," he indicated the source of his inquiry, boney wings spread wide.
Most owners have a moment of tenderness when they first lay eyes on that flawless being known as their raevan; however, Josh was not like most owners. He froze in his tracks before the two freis. Time seemed to drag by as the cheap plastic clock in the corner of the room announced each passing second with a methodical click, click, click. Many emotions passed over Josh's soft features. Not one of them appeared happy.
The boy finally settled on one expression. His eyebrows drooped into agitated arcs and a gentle pout drew his lips together into one tight bundle. His raevan was gorgeous. No. Beautiful beyond words. Nevertheless, said gorgeous raevan was nuzzling inexplicably close to a male raevan and happened to be desecrating the Lab's timetables for the next three weeks. Josh couldn't help feeling as though he was already becoming a bad 'parent'.
~~~~~
The female raevan's wings fluttered briskly against Zul's chest as if to give herself more room to 'work'. She enjoyed the preening and attention she was getting, but something within her did not like such close proximity. A touch against her arm, a hand entwined with her own, and pressure against her back. It was too much for one moment.
She turned towards the two newcomers. She was familiar with the legged woman, but the man... he was new to her. She echoed Zul's words in a subtle sing-song tune, "You are pretty... your name will be too.... promise." It made sense to the frei. She wanted a name that would suit her... the way Zul described her. Pretty.
~~~~~~
Josh peeked out from behind Alex and nodded in her direction as if to excuse himself from her, "He seems like a charmer." The boy added a wink to punctuate his words and hide their slight bitterness. He approached the male raevan with as much flair as Zul had shown. He stood tall at his full height and made his own little spectacle. "A name...." Josh was prepared as usual and was not thrown off by the seemingly simple question. He had pondered the small list in his mind and already had the answer. "LuLu..."
He didn't much think of being close as being bad or unwelcome. New himself yet, he was still learning things like 'personal space' and 'proximity,' thinking he was being a good Raevan by his self-imposed protection. His crystalline gaze turned over Josh as he approached, brows raising slightly at the name given. LuLu? Zul looked at the femme, the pretty and exuberant new born, and nodded.
"LuLu," he repeated softly, unfurling his guarded quarter-formed body from her until only one of his hands held hers, and gingerly, as though that one limb were precious and delicate, extended their hands to Josh. It was time for him to take her, then; he appoved of the name and the demeanor of which the young man had approached him, deciding on the spot he would be sufficient for the new born.
The woman rubbed the back of her hand in thought, smiling partially at the younger man's reaction. Not at all what she had anticipated, but that's what made it all the more intruiging. Alex actually had to bite her finger to keep from laughing at one point, witnessing what appeared to be a male dance for dominance. She would never understand the opposite gender, likely anymore than they understood her.
Her bit finger was released, arms crossing, observing and making a mental note of the name for Kyou's reference. "LuLu it is," she replied with a fond smile, "pretty name too." There was something innocent and lovely about it, much like the bunny Frei herself; watching her charge and the way he was trying to act gentlemanly, she had a feeling she'd be getting a lot of questions about LuLu later on. "Zul, let them have a moment."
The demonic Frei shifted his blue eyes beyond Josh to his woman, then back to LuLu in silent askance. He wasn't defying the human, persay, but if she wanted him to stay, he would, at least until he took her away to wherever he called home. Zul had already memorized her features - so close to his! - and would not soon forget the delicate femme and all her charm.
The raevan stared at Zul curiously. When her new name spilled from the unfamiliar boy’s lips she seemingly ignored him; her gaze remained fixed on Zul’s crystalline blue eyes. The words held no importance to her. It was like some foreign language pouring forth from some foreign person. They were empty until they were spoken by the male raevan. When she heard Zul’s sweetly husky voice press out the name ‘LuLu’ judgingly, the words suddenly gained meaning. LuLu… it felt right now. She gripped the male’s hand tighter and tried the name for herself. The vowels held the same singsong delicacy that the rest of her speech had, “LuLuuu~” Her eyes remained set on him, peering deeper and deeper. Her own soft, purple orbs held some sadness as the male withdrew from her. She did not enjoy the feeling of her ‘protection’ being stripped away. It felt… oddly cold… lonely.
Zul held her hand up to Josh like some sort of offering. Her expression distorted into mild panic until Josh’s hand reached out to grasp her own. LuLu’s face softened into the calm façade she wore around Zul. She felt the same warmth that she felt from the male raevan coming from this boy. Perhaps, this was just another challenge Zul was giving her. Just like the white monster. LuLu floated up to Josh and wrapped around his arm timidly. She would prove to her protector that she could handle this challenge too. She gave Zul a pleasant smile tinged with the slightest hint of smugness. She wasn’t sure when she would see him again, but she new that she would succeed in conquering this task. Until then….
