The little filly stood on the very edge of the clearing that was her home. She took in a deep breath inhaling the scent of the early morning air. She adored this time of day when the world was just waking up. She closed her bright eyes and lowered herself to the ground. If one didn't know any better it would be easy to think she was still asleep like the rest of her family.

Of course she wasn't. Jia Li was listening, listening to the quiet sounds that broke through the silence. It was peaceful and just what a girl needed to start her day off right. There was nothing better then a nice long listen, except for perhaps spending time with her sister and mom. She smiled happily to herself wondering when they would be awake. Until that time she would enjoy herself here.

The little orange/gold filly crouched low, ears laid back and eyes narrowed in concentration. Small wings quivering slightly in restraint, she watched and waited for the right moment. But being young, she wasn't the most patient of younglings and it wasn't long before she burst forward, scattering the flock of brightly plumed birds. Said flock squawked in indignation at being interrupted from their early morning meal, scattering into the air and surrounding underbrush. The filly gave her own answering squeal of laughter as she chased a few of the slower ones, little wings flapping as she tried to chase them into the air. Leaping, she very nearly caught the retreating tail feathers of one bird, but it lifted out of her reach at the last moment.

She fell back to the ground in a rather ungainly heap, wings askew. But since she hadn't been hurt, it was all fun, turning the tumble into twisting and rolling about in the dust and crushed grass, giggling to herself. Someone watching her might have either thought her mad, or in rather high spirits. It was the second thought. But then, who wouldn't be happy to have escaped away from their babysitters to explore on their own, without the overbearing presence of an adult saying what could and could not be done.

It wouldn't be that long before one of her uncles found her, or even her father. But until then, she'd make the most of it.

The cries of birds rang through the air and Jia Li's eyebrows furrowed. Something was off. The birds always made cheerful "good morning" song-like sounds at this time. She had never heard them make such, well, rather horrible noises. Unless, of course, something was bothering them.

She frowned, one of her brown ears flicking backward. Who would be up and bothering the lovely creatures so early in the morning? She cocked her head to one side her bright eyes looking back to where her family was. Surly they wouldn't mind if she wondered off for a little while.

She pushed herself to her feet and gave one long last look before turning to find the disturber of the birds. She would be back soon enough and would not stray too far. It would be fine.

She hadn't gone far before she saw something rolling about on the ground. She paused for a moment to study the strange creature. It was a moment before she realized this creature looked a bit like her in structure. Another horse? Another horse, rolling about on the ground. Her eyebrow raised watching before she gave her head a shake and approached.

"Hello there." She said in her usual soft tone. "Have you seen anyone scaring the birds out here?" She didn't want to stay out for the whole day, it was best to get straight to the point.

"Eeeep!" Priya gave a small squeal of surprise and twisted to her feet, ears back and eyes wide. She hadn't expected anyone else out here with her,at least not so soon. So she was pretty sure to see one of her uncles standing there. It was a slight shock when she saw that it was a filly, like herself...well, not like herself. The other had the prettiest patterning Priya had seen. Though granted she hadn't seen very many others, still being rather young. But still...

Blinking rapidly, it took her a moment to realize that the other had asked her a question. It'd be rude not to answer. "Uhhh....Nope!" She chirruped before shaking herself rather vigorously, dust and small bits of grass clouding about her briefly as she shed them from her pelt. And that was the truth, since she hadn't actually seen herself scaring the birds, since it was all from a first, err, horse viewpoint.

"I didn't do it on purpose. I didn't think they'd scare like that." She mumbled after settling her wings, shuffling on her feet a few brief moments before turning a dazzling grin to the other and bouncing towards Jia Li. "Where'd you come from? Did you escape from your babysitters too? I'm Priya. What's your name? Do you wanna play?" These questions came rattling out of Priya's mouth fairly quickly, so excited was she to meet another her age and size.

She blinked at the others reaction and raised her eyebrows in confusion. She could not imagine that she had just scared the other. After all it seemed impossible that she could scare anyone, she was not loud or anything like that. Somehow the filly's reaction to Jia Li had sent a pulse of fear through her. She took a deep breath to calm herself noting that she was practically being stared at.

When she answered Jia Li let out a sigh. So, it was not her. What a shame, she would have to go search elsewhere. She watched the other shake herself off taking note of two strange shapes on the other's back. What were those? They looked almost like the wings that birds wore. Her curiosity about them was rather rudely interrupted as she changed her answer.

"So then...you did frighten them?" She asked frowning slightly. "You should not do that." Her voice was quiet but firm and somehow she did not think it would reach the bouncing girl before her as she let out a barrage of questions. Her ears flicked backwards. This filly reminded her of her older brother, loud and a bit annoying.

Not wanting to be rude she smiled sweetly albeit a bit nervously. "I came from the forest. No, I did not escape. My name is Jia Li and it is nice to meet you." Every sentence was said quite slowly to make sure everything was heard. She had no answer to the Priya's last question, however, as she did not know if she wanted to play or not. Trying to keep the filly's mind away from that subject she went back to an earlier question. "You escaped...?" It had struck her as odd then and it still did. Why would she need to escape from anywhere?

Priya realized rather belatedly that bouncing about and talking so much must be upsetting the other, or at the least be annoying. So with effort, Priya settled down, scuffing the ground with her hooves lightly and taking a few deep breaths. She still fairly vibrated with excitement, grinning widely with her ears perked forwards. "I know I shouldn't've. I said I didn't mean to." She said with an embarrassed dip of her head and flick of her short tail. Her head came back up when Jia Li started answering her questions, though a bit uneasily.

"You came from the forest? I came from there too! My whole family lives there." She giggled slightly, casting a glance over her shoulder in the direction of the distant forest before looking back to the other, one ear tilting back. "You didn't escape? They just let you go out?....By yourself?" The little filly couldn't help be gape slightly in amazement. "You must have a really cool family. Mine never lets me go anywhere without someone to watch me. They say 'You're too young to be wandering about alone Priya' or 'There's dangerous things in the woods that'd make you a nice snack, pipsqueak." Priya said these last two things in a dramatically serious voice, mimicking Granddad Rajiv and Uncle Dreyden. Her serious voice soon dropped into giggles, her attention focused on the other once more.

Jia Li sighed at the other's reaction. She imagined there was not much she could do to fix the problem. What was done was done there was nothing to do about it really. "Well...perhaps next time you will do all you can to leave the birds in peace? They can't like getting scattered like that..." It didn't seem fair to the birds that they'd be frightened off when she imagined that they were their first. They did not often speak in voices that could be understood by all so it was important that she spoke out for them.

She sighed once again as she began to chatter again. She reminded Jia Li a little bit of a squirrel, those little creatures never really knew how to be quiet when there was something interesting to them.

"Well, they do not know that I am gone yet..." She confessed. She did not truly escape but it would be wrong to let the other believe that she was allowed out on her own whenever she wanted. "My family is 'cool' but they trust that I won't go too far." She smiled gently. Thinking of her family always warmed her heart. She loved her brothers and sister and her mother and father and trusted what they told her to be true.

"They are right you know, there are things that would hurt you if they got the chance to." She tried very hard to be the voice of reason. If she could get through to people, with any luck, she could help them.
