"I like it here," the lion that a human could possibly describe as raver-colored with his black base, orange and purple markings was sniffing carefully through unknown territory, "If we don't get run off again."
We? There was no one with him, not at first glance anyway.
At a very, very careful glance--- Perhaps caused by thinking one saw something unusual about his fur--one could see that he looked like he had a very, very bad flea infestation.
But if you asked him, he would say that was pure nonsense! Fleas? No way! If any lea dared come near him, his eight-legger friends would be sure to eat 'em right up. Nothing was going to eat HIM!
Eight-legger friends? Oh... oh, yeah... Looking even closer into that mess of fur, those weren't over-sized fleas, those were spiders. For the most part, they went unseen in his thick mane and dark fur, but they were mostly certainly there. Only one of them didn't hide itself, and this one currently stood on Cygnus Araña's nose.
Yup, anyone seeing Cygnus would probably be too preoccupied by the spider on his nose to really notice the other spiders in his fur. Was he talking to the spider???
Of course he was.
"Or if there's nothing that'll eat us and send us packing again," Cygnus noted, "Oh, hello!" The last was addressed to an unknown lion, "Forgive me, I'm new to the territory. Do you know of any good unmarked land?"

Xiah had been...resting, to say the least. Her eyeless skull laying atop her legbones and such. She'd heard that her daughter was alive an well around these parts but thus far had seen neither hide nor hair of her.
Clacking her jaws together in slight agitation, she twitched her tail as she was addressed to. Lifting and turning her head, she surveyed the stranger...somehow.
"Is there something i could help y'with?" her voice was ethreal, bodiless.

Cygnus Araña's ears perked up and he took a step back when the skeleton he'd sarcastically addressed moved.
Then it spoke!!
Cygnus looked around, wide-eyed for the creature with strings and a possible voice. None. Uh... uh...
"... uh... Valcor, did you... Huh? Uh.. Oh, yes..." The words were again muttered to the spider on his nose, his eyes crossing as he looked at it, then he looked forward at the skeleton... lioness?... that had spoken. He cleared his throat, "I'm sorry, you startled me. I thought you were sleeping..." (At which point the spider-on-his-nose seemed to wave it's arms and then scurried behind Cygnus' ears. Cygnus looked at it again, tilted his head like he was going to answer, but instead addressed the skeleton in front of him again.) "...I, uhm, am being forced to relocate and am searching for a new home. I didn't want to accidentally intrude on someone else's abode.... I know how disrupting that is...But seeing as you are.... well, here already...." He shook his head, "Cygnus Araña. I am Cygnus." He gave an uncertain, lopsided smile to the skeleton. Did pleasantries count with skeletons?

An ethereal chuckle sounded from somewhere as the bones moved themselves, stretched, and ambled towards Cygnus. She could 'see' that there was more than one in her presence, lion or not. It would be interesting to find out what all was in her presence.
"I'm afraid that i cannot sleep, Cygnus. Merely rest my...bones." Her structure shook as she scolded herself for such a lame pun. "But that is beside the point. This is neither my land, nor anyone else's that i know of." She lowered her head in a polite bow and clacked her jaws together lightly, the only way she knew how to 'show' a smile. "My name is Xiah YunJae. It is a pleasure to meet one who does not immediately run in fear from one such as I."

Frankly, the whole thing was very unsettling... But then she had to go and express gratitude for his not running off, and Cygnus' own experiences made him keep his paws precisely where they were. Prejudice was not a fun thing.
"Xiah Yunjae," Cygnus murmured, trying to remember the name but already knowing that it was going to be a failing effort, "And it is a pleasure to meet the first... uhm... in an unknown land. I must admit, it was Valcor that stopped me from making the foolish mistake of running off. He always guides me correctly, even if I do embarrass him in the process!"
With that announcement, the spider had crawled back from behind Cygnus' ears and settled between his eyes.
"He says hello. Is there anything you could tell me about this land?" Cygnus licked his nose, uncertain about addressing her still, but now at least braving a glance around her to see what else there might be.

If she had ears, she would have flicked one. Instead, she...sat down and tilted her head to the side curiously. There was definitely more than one creature in her presence, but she couldn't quite make out what it was.
No matter. She let out another laugh, clacking her jaws again. "You may call me a pile of bones, a lioness, or a skeleton. Any will do, seeing as it doesn't really matter, dear. Though i prefer to be called Xiah." She settled down, her bones clacking against one another as she moved, finally deciding on a...comfortable position. "Ah, so the other being i sense is a spider. I was beginning to wonder." she bowed her head again. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Valcor. It is not every day that i get to speak to an intelligent spider in my...condition."
"Hmmmm...As for about these lands, i myself do not remember much about them. It has been some years since i have walked these parts and all i can tell you is that my little girl lives around here." she nodded, crossing her paw-bones daintily.

"Oh? Have you been on a journey?" Cygnus asked to Xiah saying she hadn't been around for awhile, then winced. Well, of course she---well, or maybe she---if--- Bother, this was confusing! "Are you visiting your daughter? Is she not part of a pride?"
Those were easier questions, though Cygnus again realized belatedly how rude his final question could have been construed. But---uh---
So he babbled. "Valcor's not the only eight-legger here with me. The count seems to be always changing, but there are dozens and sometimes hundreds." He settled down too, now warming up about his favorite subject, "But they were getting eaten into extinction, so we're trying to find an eight-legger home."
