Shwari was a devious creature when he wanted to be. This was especially true the days that So deliberately went out of his way to put the young lion at a disadvantage in one of their games. (He did it too, but that didn't count because it was him and not So). Regardless, he had been plotting something entirely dastardly the previous night. Something that neither of them had even thought of yet, and oh it was such an evil idea. He was lucky he had thought of it first.
It wasn't easy to hide the smirk on his face when he sought out So in the morning, but he managed somehow. What he forgot about was the slight strut in his gait that proclaimed to the world "I have something really evil on my mind and guess who's going to get it? biggrin " So was never, ever going to live this game down. Ever. Still, he greeted his rival/friend the same way he did every morning. "You ready for another game, So?"

You ever had that feeling where you're on top of the world? Where things are going so well you can literally hear 'Can't Touch This' blasting in the background as you strut down the street in your victory? So hadn't, because the pridelands didn't have MC Hammer, but he felt about as close to that as you could get. And there was strutting. Boy, was there ever strutting.
He'd gotten to their meeting point that morning early, because he'd slept a lot the night before even earlier. He wanted to have as many dreams of his final victory as long as possible, and the psychological trophy was within his sights.
Whatever Shwari had, he was ready.
Or so he thought.
"Morning," greeted So, the same way as every other morning. "Naturally."

If Shwari had ever had a s**t-eating grin on his face before, nothing topped the one he was currently wearing. But he had to drag it out a little. Bask in his clear genius and then deliver the final blow to So. Oh there would be repercussions – So would probably think up something even more terrible for him to do the next day – but the look on his rival/friends' face once he found out what the game was would be worth half the rocks in Shwari's collection. It was just too perfect.
"Excellent," he replied brightly, still grinning. "Then I'm going to give you today's game. You'll find it resembles yesterday's game with one, minor difference." A small detail indeed. "You have to convince the first lion we see today to be your mate." Let the games begin.

So hadn't been at all discouraged listening to Shwari. A game like yesterdays? Psh, there was no girl he couldn't woo if he put his mind to it. Bring it on. So expected him to tell him to try and sway a leopard or cheetah, since lions were suddenly into that sort of thing. Which, again, no problem. No female he couldn't--Wait, what?
Crap.
"...What? You can't be..." Serious. He couldn't be serious. There had to be a rule against this. Somewhere. Desperately he wracked his mind but there was nothing. Mother-- "Shut your mouth. I'll still win. Let's find one."

"No, I'm afraid I'm totally serious." He was practically vibrating on the spot with excitement. His rival's face was amazing! No doubt, So was trying to think of any rule that Shwari had broken with this game. But, as Shwari had deduced last night, they had never made a rule about trying to make lions gay for each other. There had been no rule that said you couldn't go flirting with other creatures of your gender. It was a loophole that he was only happy to exploit.
"Uh-huh~" Shwari could already see the extra pebble in his little collection. "Let's go then. After all, we have a male to find for you." He resisted the urge to wink. That would have been too gay.

Not since the "Who Has More Markings Game" had So been this pissed about one of their contests. This was just flat out devil's work Shwari was doing today. But! He would not be defeated. For he was still on the high of victory, and he wasn't about to lose his place just because of some loophole they'd left out. "Fine."
He carried himself with an air of flawless success as they searched for the poor soul he was scheduled to seduce. His left eye twitched violently, though, the forever give away when So was cracking. This may very well be the worst day of his life...
And then he saw Banji. An old, zebra looking old guy lounging (and snoring) under the shade of a rock. After that, he knew it would. Male was one thing. Old and male?
Ugh...

So was cracking and it was absolutely brilliant. Shwari wished he had thought of this game sooner. It had been worth his humiliating defeat at the hands of his rival and that blasted teal lioness though. Damn her, having a mate already! But, her resistance because of it had helped spark his idea, so Shwari didn't curse her too much. She was, after all, only female.
The young lion tottered after his friend, trying to look nonchalant even as he leered. But then he saw Banji, and it was all over for Shwari's calm and cool facade. "Well look if it isn't Mister Right," he gloated, and nudged So towards the unknowing candidate. "Better make sure your mane is in place before you try and woo him."

So stared back at him. Stared. The look on his face said without saying, 'Your time will come, and when it does, I will end you.' Shwari would pay for this, and pay dearly. He didn't know how yet, but one day, he would pay. Before that, he'd have to settle with humiliating him by making his on plan backfire. He could do this. "Just get that rock ready for me, loser."
He took a step. He could do this.
He took another. He could do this.
He stopped. He could--
Oh God.
"...Hi."
Smooth, So. Smooth.

Indeed, his time would come. He would probably pay a huge price for setting So up like this for such obvious failure. Perhaps he would even regret starting this game. But for now, he was still revelling in his genius. They would remember this game for a long, long time. He would probably even tell stories about it to his grandchildren. Or So's grandchildren. Whoever he felt like speaking to.
Shwari sauntered after So as he made his way towards Banji, doing his best to keep his grin a couple levels below "insane". It was harder than he imagined, especially after So's extremely smooth and self-confident greeting. Should he try and save his butt? Nah. He would rather watch him squirm. He settled for giving So an encouraging nod.

Once again, So glared back at him. Shwari was making a mistake taunting him like that. All it was doing was upping his determination and making it more likely he was going to win. That's what he was telling himself anyway.
In the time he'd been giving dirty glances to his competitor, Banji had rolled over and opened his eyes. By time So looked back, he was staring at him. Now this was peculiar. "Can I help you boys?"
"Uh, well..."
"Are you looking for someone?" Banji pressed.

Shwari feigned a look of complete innocence. He was definitely milking every minute of this, but why not? So never seemed to let him live down all of his incidences with girls. As far as he was concerned, though, this would top all of his failings with girls. Not to mention there was very little that could be modified about this game if So wanted to use it to his favour. Thus, in the end, Shwari was still the winner. It was a wonderful feeling.
Turning his attention to the target male in front of them, Shwari gave a small, almost dramatic sigh. "Actually, sir, we were. My friend has a need, you see. For something that most lions do not seem to need. And we were wondering if you would help him out?" Don't smile, don't smile or you'll ruin it all.

So's fur stood up like an angry house cat. Yes, he'd been harassing Shwari from the side lines during their last game, but that was different! That was with a female, and she was young. This... this was an old guy. The pridelander seethed and focused again on Banji, who by then was giving them both that stupid adult look of suspicious wonder.
...Wait.
There was no rule against this either.
"Yes, I was wondering if I could talk to you privately? Just over there a ways." So mustered up the best pleading look he could, without looking desperate. Desperation was something he couldn't pull off, even if he was. He kind of was.
It was hesitantly Banji agreed, but the more important factor was that he did, "Alright." He followed So just far enough away for Shwari to be able to hear. The closeness of the adolescent whispering to him didn't seem to bother him any. During the session he had a variety of expressions on his face; there was stunned, disturbed, suspicious all before he nodded.

Talk to him privately? D'aaaw, Shwari wasn't going to get to hear So stutter it out. Still, he supposed it was only fair. It would have been like So telling Alake nasty things about him. All those things were not against the rules. But he would remember his tactic and definitely use it again later. There was something to be learned about studying your opponent's moves.
Thus, Shwari sat patiently and waited for So to finish whispering to the lion. The changes in Banji's expression were strange, and before long Shwari found himself frowning. What exactly was So asking him? And why was he nodding? So was supposed to lose this game! He was supposed to fumble and collapse into an embarrassed pile all because Shwari had asked him to go and potentially flirt with another lion! This wasn't turning out as expected. He kept his mouth decidedly shut, however. He'd let So dig his own grave.

So was digging, alright, but it wasn't a grave. It was to buried treasure. Treasure in the form of rocks. It might have seemed like a crappy treasure to anyone else, but no one else really mattered. Only the rocks and Shwari mattered.
...Wow, that sounded gay.
It was kind of fitting considering so he'd let it slide. Not long after Banji had nodded, to whatever it was so had said to him last, the pridelander marched back over and the male followed in toe.
So sat in front of Shwari and Banji beside him. A voice in his mind pleaded for something to kill him as he nuzzled the other male and shot Shwari a "HA!" kind of look. Banji looked a tad uncomfortable, but not quite enough to keep him from posting when So said, "We're mates now, Shwari."

... Oh goodie they were nuzzling. Shwari looked torn between disgust and disappointment – disappointment for losing the game okay – however he managed to pull himself together and snort softly. So they were nuzzling. Nuzzling didn't make lions mates. Mates had to... have children! But, that was impossible, and therefore he couldn't ask So to do it. That was, unfortunately, one of the rules of their game. They couldn't ask each other to do anything that was physically impossible.
"Uh-uh, so you're mates. What does your "mate" say to that?" He raised an eyebrow at Banji. If the male would say it he would be forced to admit defeat. But not before he made them do some more lovey-dovey stuff. Let So have some nightmares about this game.
