!! One more week of school left... EVER, just had my last two exams today. Which was actually really cruel; two maths Monday, physics and chem on Tuesday. If they actually spaced them out a bit I would have ended up studying a reasonable amount D: Even though the exams were a disaster as usual... IT'S ALL OVER?! Is anyone else graduating this year? ... or do people in different countries graduate at different times of the year due to summer holidays etc? I don't think it's really quite hit me yet, one of those things that just takes a while to sink in. Still, the only good thing I guess is not having so much stress... kind of depressing thinking about all the people I'll probably never see again. Not really sure what to feel... Kind of scary really, since school is all I've ever really known so far! eek

The fall term ends in early December. I'm going to be getting 2 Associates Degrees - AGS (Associate of General Studies) and an AA (Associate of Arts). The ceremony isn't until the end of the spring term, but we get our diplomas mailed to us.

Woah. That's pretty weird, everyone is starting/finishing at completely different times.
... what are AP's?
Here we have this ... 'OP' system thing, it's so dodgy D: get my rank in December sometime.

Advanced Placement tests. You take them in high school, and if your score is high enough, some colleges let you skip certain introductory-level courses (like Calculus or English), or give you generic credits that count towards the minimum necessary for graduation.

On the other hand if you fail certain portions of your AP tests or any other test needed to get into your college/university of choice you need to take remedial classes to advance to the normal stuff. Stupid college algebra...

That pretty much sums it up. o: Our school does AP classes that are supposed to be college-level to prepare for the tests. I'm taking a couple, actually fewer than a lot of people I know...
...what's an OP?
@Seffy: Orly? Never heard that bit... Fortunately I'm avoiding APs in my bad subjects xD; 'Cept English. If I can test out of some of that, all the better...

An 'OP' is your Overall Position... out of everyone in the state (being Queensland), not just your school. You get a a ranking for each of your subjects, from VLA, LA, SA, HA, VHA, and each of those has 10 rungs. e.g. I'm a HA 6 for physics. (10 being the highest, 1 the lowest). The person at the top of the class, regardless of their mark, gets 400 points, and it decreases from there till the person at the bottom who gets ... 200 or something, I don't know, it's a crazy system.
In September we sit (sat) the QCST (Queensland Core Skills Test), which are these statewide tests - two multiple choice, one short answer and one writing task, all unseen. And how your overall cohort (all the 12s who did the test in your school) ranks out of all of the other schools will affect your OP.
So if you got fairly decent grades and therefore a pretty good ranking in your subjects, but your school did really crappy in the QCS, your OP wouldn't be so great. But on the other hand, even if your grades weren't all A's, if your school does above average and better, your OP score will be awesome.
Fun fun fun! since my school is a state school, our average isn't too great. All the private schools send their bad students away for the time they sit the QCS test, or so I've heard. Not all of them, but I know some do. So it's a pretty unfair system. Especially considering schools that are more multicultural, like mine- people who don't have a good command of English are obviously going to find some aspects of those tests difficult.

-blinks- Wow.
And that does seem a bit off... I'm pretty sure if my school was like that I'd have a pretty crappy OP, even though I'm great at standardized tests. Actually, though, it might be average. We have enough supernerds to balance out our slackers...
Sorta makes me happy for the SAT, that's all you. -shrug-
