the Kryas-Kami. Rika's "corridor," a method of interplanar travel that successfully brought both her and Baikou to Gaia from the Golden World, does work -- but not always exactly as planned. Despite specifying the exact resonances sampled in the Empire, her attempt to return home has brought her not to the bountiful green land of Toukoku but the harsh red-and-purple plane of Arasias, home of the Kryas-Kami... specifically, to the city of Karyasihu, which once tried to forge diplomatic and trade relations with the Empire but were rejected when their mages' secret activities were exposed.
Perhaps a hasty retreat back to Gaia would be the Imperial Princess's first reaction. But, bizarrely, though all the settings are correct, the behavior of the corridor normal, the readings all what one would expect them to be, every subsequent attempt continuously brings them to Karyasihu, atop that city's Well. Inexplicable--
Or perhaps not? The mages of Karyasihu were, after all, able to open stable portals to the Empire from Arasias; perhaps they have some knowledge that could help the Porcelain find their way home. ... Or perhaps they are even responsible for the corridor method going awry?
Despite a certain Dragon Knight's misgivings, Rika would like to investigate further. And... there are others who might like to go searching in the city of Karyasihu for something entirely different...

A Metaplot!!?!??/1// ... Sort of. More of an RP Event in a new setting. Unfortunately, it is not truly a plot for all, but just a little bit of a dramatic romp for a few specific characters and the one or two nutty lore addicts among you.
This plot presents a mystery... and, as it advances, may offer challenges of wordplay and might to the Porcelain who venture into Arasias. It will end... when one of multiple ending conditions are fulfilled. Good End? Bad End!? It is up to you...
For added unpredictability and fun, there will be skill checks and perhaps even a supplementary video game or two (but don't count on Setsushi finishing those in time...) Don't worry, though, because the odds are stacked towards you -- even if you drop your Porcelain in the middle of a knifefight, then have her strip naked and roll around on the ground, nothing will affect your characters unless you RP it out. Setsushi is a GM of tissue.Who and How? To get to Arasias, your character must be accompanying Rika or Baikou. Your character need not be Porcelain and need not have a character sheet (though the character sheet allows you to succeed at hidden skill rolls to gain advantages)... but you do have to have an IC reason for going with them.
Your character could be curious about the destination, serve as hired volunteer muscle to protect vulnerable scholars, be a trader or negotiator who thinks she might be useful to the effort... any reason so long as you can convince Rika to bring your character. Characters have to be specially prepared to use the corridor, so "wrong place at wrong time" or jumping out of a bush at Rika at the last second won't work. You don't have to RP out every entrance and departure, though; assume Rika, at least, will be going every day and coming back to sleep, so your character will get many chances to go to Arasias and return to Gaia. Just make sure your character's justifications were either approved in RP or OOCly by Setsurika.
When RPing, pay attention to the plot's timeline (which will be posted when everything has been set up and the plot has been set in motion) so that you don't cause a time paradox or start a picnic in the middle of a war zone. You should also move fast, as my hope is to finish this (actually somewhat long and complicated) story as soon as possible, before school drags all my attention away.

Special Guidelines Only whitelist players can participate, naturally. However, it is likely that people will be doing Gaia-side RPs to discuss and ruminate upon the developments in Arasias (so that children and/or Porcelain without a reason to go can also participate.) If this takes place in the shop thread, non-whitelistees are welcome to join in as normal.
Don't dawdle too much. You can certainly do a leisurely PRP or two to develop your characters ... ... ... but the plot won't wait for you! If other people have found a lead, the plot and timeline will advance.
Don't wait on Setsushi for insignificant NPCs! You can godmode nameless townspeople, shopowners, and peons -- follow the regional and cultural guidelines and everything will be all right. But even better, skip RPing with nobody NPCs altogether!
Do take responsibility for the situations you put your characters in. No blow aimed by an NPC at your character is ever guaranteed to hit. Even if the NPC is a train and your character is tied to the tracks. This is 'cause I do expect you to choose, then RP out comfortable, but reasonable consequences for your characters' actions.

Squick Warning! This is a dark episode. There are disturbing elements (not "might be," are.) Some of you may like a romp through dark, disturbing psychological territory -- some of you may prefer not to play with that stuff on Gaia. So, here is a list of the (EXTENSIVE) dark and scary elements you might encounter in this episode.
War, large scale death and suffering
Mean, evil NPCs
NPCs possibly dying on-screen of various causes
NPCs who could be attracted to PC characters who Do Not Want
Mildly weird, scary, evil sexual relationships (among NPCs currently)
Mentally disturbed NPCs
NPCs with dead parents
Large fish that live in murky water
And in NPC backstories (not likely to come up unless you guys purposefully dig for it smile
Very weird, scary, evil sexual relationships
Neglectful parents, mild childhood trauma
Moderate emotional abuse
Abortions
... However, keep in mind that a lot of the more intense items will not be played out in detail "on-screen" and are rather part of the backstory or background. Furthermore, Bad Stuff(TM) will not happen to your characters unless you RP it being inflicted. Even if you lay your character down in front of a train, you do not have to RP her receiving a single scratch. But don't lie down in front of trains, that's stupid.If a lot of your squicks are listed, you might consider skipping the Arasias subforum altogether (but possibly participating in related RPs in Gaia,) or you can join in, but cautiously. Those of you whose Player Profiles include one of the above squicks can feel free to PM me to ask if a scene or NPC is likely to bring up that squick.
