The deep velvety sky poured through the windows like ink, punctuated with tiny crystalline stars that shone and reflected the smooth white marble of the ballroom. It's high, vaulted ceilings, held up with ornately carved pillars produced a loud echo when his footsteps fell onto the polished tiles of the floor. He looked up at the chandelier, reminicient of the outside world's stars, and from which white organza was elegantly spiraling, draped around the crevices of the ceiling. In the dim, atmospherically-laden air in front of him, lit only by numerous candles, he had to admit that she had done a very good job. The room looked surreal; a place removed from the ordinary, mundane world and transformed into something else all together. He was shaken out of his thoughts as the silence of the great white room was broken all at once and people began to occupy it. He darted into a corner, remembering that Shee had expressly told him that he wasn't allowed to be in here before the party began. And then he remembered that he was also wearing a mask.

But the party had begun, and here he was. It felt good to be back.

In the glowing, clean light of the ballroom, many footsteps began to echo as the huge doors majestically swung open. There was the hint of expectation and pomp in the air as the chandelier candles flickered and glowed from above and the high walls rang with a growing chatter. The regal pillars stood as a sentiment to glory and dignity. The room was supremely and utterly a dream.

Then a giant hamburger walked in.

"Epanninny why you bump me?" Logic said that the voice should have been at least slightly muffled by the layers of foam forming the bun. Logic also said that logic couldn't possibly apply to Estrelas.

The girls wore black tights to obscure the identities of their legs. One pair was slender and graceful. Unfortunately, the other pair was chunky and muscly and covered in white rabbit fur.

"Eeek!" The right half of the hamburger wiggled nervously. "I-I didn't! I think that was someone else!!"

From the left side, an arm carefully reached out and prodded the doorframe. "No mind, Epaninny. That the door."

"Oh! Okay!" There was a long pause as Eponine nervously tallied up the odds that the Manager would be hiding in the wings. "Errr, Estrelas? I don't hear Angel anywhere..."

"Oh, Angel probably go look for friend."

"...Friend..."

"She like Father 'Madai. Mista Sian. Lai-Lai.. Faaa-stus..."

"...Why, yes... Haha! I thought she would have gone to the food table..."

The left side of the hamburger shrugged. "As long as they no have table cloth."

The right side suddenly went rigid. "Ah... Why?"

"Because Angel like to pull down table cloth. Like to make food go crash-crash-splat. But haha! Mees Shee too smart to use table clothing! Haha! We fine!"

Eponine went silent.

She had not wanted to come to the party. She had wanted to stay in her room with a "headache" and wind down at the end of the day to a quiet, relaxing book... But there was Estrelas. Estrelas with her big brass booming voice and her big bold smile. Estrelas promising a fun, flipping evening. Estrelas grinning and promising everything she could have ever hoped for. Estrelas promising a "mas-kew-ra-deh." And then the costume- it hid her perfectly! Although everyone knew that if Estrelas was in one side, there could be only one person on the other...

"Epaninny we go!" Estrelas called impatiently.

"I am going! It seems... I think we're staying in the same place!"

From both sides of the giant hamburger, arms reached out and prodded the doorframe.

"Estrelas, I feel a doorframe!"

"Good! So we in right place."

"No, I mean we're stuck!"

Lai tugged on the jacket of his attire, feeling a bit odd but comfortable nonetheless. He resisted the urge to run a hand over his hair; the pomade made quite a greasy smear on his palm the last time he had done so and the Russian did not want to relive that experience with his clean white gloves on. Plus, now that he had just about finished setting up the last stack of white plates, he probably wouldn't be able to slip off to the men's room without bumping into one or five people.

He smiled as the last stack of porcelain was set up neatly then took the opportunity to move away from the food laden tables. Lai could now appreciate the majesty Shee had done to the ballroom. It was quite beautiful and slightly eerie, though in a good way. The Russian turned as he came upon a mirror on the wall, full length and clear as a pool of fresh rain water. Turning pink as he surveyed himself, Lai was pleased with the way he looked, though oddly surprised.

Starting at the head his normally thick, brown but red-tinted and self cut locks had hung about his shoulders and uneven bangs partly hid his eyes. But for this moment, the hair had darkened to a shiny molasses color (partly from still being wet from his shower and the other part being the pomade) and was brushed back into a knot at the base of his skull. His bangs were held fast and away from his brow with the greasy, shine inducing pomade and would not move for the rest of the night. The top part of his face was hidden with a white mask he had found, the cool to the touch material it was made from extending down to cover the bridge of his nose as well as his cheeks down to his jaw. Despite the size of the mask it was not heavy and he could see quite well.

When Lai heard the word 'Masquerade' he immediately thought 'formal attire'. He clothed himself in one of the two formal sets of clothing his aunt had sent him and was pleased to see they still fit, all be it the pants a bit snug about the hips. His chest was covered with a long sleeved white shirt that was mostly hidden by a dark red vest and a black bow tie. The jacket was black as well and ended in the back with long coattails. Matching black pants with a crease down the legs and a matching cummerbund led to dress shoes just as shiny as his hair.

"How peculiar." Despite hiding his physical identity well, Lai could not hide the ethnic one permeating in his currently soft voice. Not minding, as he would try to cover it as well as he could, the Russian leaned his head to the side and smiled at what he had become before turning at the noise coming from across the spacious ballroom.

The sight of the large, cylindrical and four-legged creature made his eyes go wide behind the mask and his jaw drop slightly in shock. Lai had absolutely no idea what that thing was. It looked...Like food?

Mokoyis carefully smoothed down the satin of her dress trying not to snag her fingers on the downy feathers that covered the skirt. The bright white material was likely to be filthy by the end of the evening, but it would be nice to enter the room looking presentable. Her hair at least was cooperating, she had pulled the fronts back and fastened them with a feathered clip. She had curled the normally straight part left loose and hoped it would be enough to hide her identity. The contrast between her dark skin and the snowy white dress was vivid and probably a dead give away.

She had decided to dress herself as a crane and had then spent a whole afternoon in the library discovering exactly what a masquerade was as to be able to make her costume properly. She had then modernized the design based on some fashion magazines. A simple black half-mask with some white feathers glued to one side and some orange paint to make a beak, and her outfit was complete.

She rounded the corner and was confronted with the backside of a hamburger instead of the decorative doors to the hall. Someone was most definately stuck. "Do you need help?"

Why does it feel like this beard will fall off?

That was what Johannes thought as he was walking towards the ballroom. Tonight was a "masquerade" night, and a mask was required. Bueno (good) That was fine. The only worry Johannes had at the moment was his fake beard, Brownish colored.

He was worried about his hair also -- with some help he was able to acquire a wig of the same color and put it on. While he was sure that some blonde flecks of hair were showing, he didn't worry too much about it. After all, he had a helmet on.

With boots reaching to knees on his not-so-tight black pants and armor on his chest and arms covering his shirt, and of course the required mask --dark grey, since it seemed to suit the armor--, Johannes was entering the ballroom when he suddenly noticed a very peculiar sight. There was...something in front of the door to the ballroom, and someone in feathers. "What in the world is happening now?"

A soft hum had been held within Rodney's throat as he fixed the cuffs of his shirt. The buttons had proven somewhat tricky, but with the proper maneuver, he had succeeded in fastening them still against his thin wrists. From a sincere perspective, his shirt was rather large, and no amount of buttoning would ever have provided the proper fit. Elegance was hardly an associative property, and he found it better to make-due with what tangible belongings he had to clothe himself with. That, of course, had consisted of nothing extravagant nor flighty. He had donned nothing more than a pair of dim, dusty slacks pattered with stains of all sorts, and the fine-white dress shirt that had become a form of cool-wear when he could not be bothered to wrap himself up in his long coat.

In the case of the evening, it was a matter of formality, however - and within Rodney's mind, it was best to dress as nicely as he could with what little he did have. He had cleaned his shirt, and had attempted to clean his pants, and, of course, he had made certain to grasp the pair of dark suspenders from within the bag beneath his bed to ensure his pants would be of a proper fit. He was of his own stature, and of his own time, though the unfortunate aspect of it all was that he looked less like a gentleman. He was a scruffy young paper-boy, lanky, wiry, and unimpressive. He was oblivious, however; and such was for the better.

Rodney's boots had pattered against the ground as he strode in direction. It was a brisk pace, more of a jog; and a faded potato sack had swung from within his hand as he went along in a hurry. The expression on his face may have been confused for unadulterated fear, but confusion may have been a better statement. He wasn't wholly certain where the ballroom was. He remembered some vague outline of a direction, however, and that had been enough to fuel him to hurry along and try to find it on the basis of guessing and asking himself twenty-questions. For having been sick, he was beginning to feel better. Healthy as an ox, with a boosting sense of memory. He certainly felt less senile. That had not stopped his frustration in searching for the ballroom.

He had given a quick ruffle of his thick brown hair before heaving a great sigh. The running pace he had picked up gradually diminished as he slid the potato sack over his head, a make-shift mask perhaps as disheveled as he himself had shown to be. Three holes had been sliced into the sack, two for the eyes, and one for the nose - nothing more. All things considering, not an ounce of his face showed beyond such features. Not even the smile as he finally found what he thought may have been the ballroom.

There was ... Something there, though. Several things! It appeared as if he had walked in on an interesting circumstance. "What in the name of ... Who is that?" He had whispered to himself in response to the peculiarity of a big four-legged object blocking the entry. There was a crowd gathering, it seemed, all inconvenienced by the four-legged mass.

"What seems to be the trouble here?"

User Image...So, I am to wear a mask, yes?
This was quite an interesting day for Hyo. Alone, cold, and with most of his money used up, he thought he'd have to look for someone who'd take him as a servant, but then...then this strange, strange man appeared. He was speaking some weir gibberish, but then another man, who seemed to be with him, speaked up, supposedly in the name of that other person. Is this for real? He can't even speak in a proper way, but calls himself more important?
But Hyo didn't really have much to choose right now. So he went with them. And then he learned that he's supposed to be lucky, because there's something called 'maskorade' this day. And he has to dress himself up for it.

Hye wasn't going to make a fool out of himself on the first day in the man's House. He went in search of a library, to go through scrolls, and find what this 'maskorade' thing was.
And found that scrolls in this place were...different. Much, much different. And so many of them! This House seemed to be even more rich than his old one! So hard to believe!
But he managed to find information about maskorade, with a bit of help from the man who WAS speaking in an understandable way - there was no chance to go through all these scrolls before next day! Well, it was more like reaaaaally unusual drawings. The man was calling them fothos. Very pretty. So, the maskarode meant that he had to hide his face under a 'mask' - that has to be where the name came from. He quickly took his brush and a clean scroll, and sketched few of those mask things, deciding to use the prettiest of them, if he'll manage to find the materials. Then he thanked the man, and went to his new room to make himself a mask.

And he didn't have much time for anything else. He sew the mask from one of his spare dresses, and used a few things that he found in the room. He was quite proud of it - for his first time, he did a really good job. Made of black, white and silver fabrics, beads, brocade, a long horn 'borrowed' from his room, and a large part of his white fur, most of his head was now hidden. For the rest of the outfit, he clothed himself in the male outfit he snatched from his old House, since his gown was too dirty for such an elegant occasion. So he was now ready, and went with the direction the man gave him, but instead, found a few people, and something blocking the door. Something...that...had...legs.... FOUR OF THEM!!!!!
<"Aaaah! A demon!!!"> He screamed, and almost ran away. What were these people doing?! Do they want to be eaten by...by this thing?!

((OOC: the <> brackets sygnalise that he's talking in korean, and wouldn't be understood unless you know it xD))

Eknephias was not happy. There was a large circular thing between him and the bar. And that was a problem.

Thasios hung back, amused. Few things upset Eknephias; this appeared to be one of them. When Shee had informed him of her plans to hold a masquerade, he had thought it would be fun, and a welcome change. But he hadn't imagined it would be quite this enjoyable.

Eknephias frowned, although no one could see it, an ivory theatre mask lined in pearls obscuring his face. He tapped the ivory lips of the mask rapidly a few times, staring at the obstruction. It appeared to be... struggling. He stood facing it silently, at the front of the crowd that appeared to be gathering, for a full three minutes. Deciding he would take his chances with whatever ear-splitting, punishing lecture Shee would give him for hurting a recruit, he whirled around to face Thasios, the silver and white satin of his heavy brocade coat swinging with him. "You can tell her it was my fault."

And swinging around again, he realized that this King Henry fellow had been more clever than he had originally given him credit for. You could always use great big shoulders.

And with that in mind, he rammed into the hamburger. Eknephias had always considered himself to be in good shape, but that had been much harder than he had imagined, and he let out a deep breath, bent over in the now clear doorway, as the hamburger appeared to be slightly disoriented and stumbling in the general direction of the food. He had done his part. That was someone else's problem.

He turned, vaguely interested, in the direction of unintelligible screaming. There appeared to be a little girl scared of... something. Too young for him anyways. Wine first; then women. And with that thought, he sauntered off in search of something sweet and hopefully biting.

Thasios shook his head, and followed Eknephias into the room. Forsaking his usual gold, he had decided upon sky blue silks done up with intricate embroidery and fastened with buttons; He'd worn the coat that Eknephias had presented him with, which seemed suspiciously like something of Wraith's, with it's decidedly Eastern flair. But it was a costume party. And although he felt certain that no one would mistake him for Wraith (his shining hair resembled fire more than anything else), it would make for second-guessing. He smiled slightly as he watched Eknephias meander around people, and hoped this was not one of days that Eknephias decided he wanted to be a "fun drunk".

There were many people here Thasios did not recognize. Hopefully there would be someone new who was worth talking to.

No one had really seen the fabled Norwegian recruit as of late, not even his friends or his beloved Lai, and there seemed to be no visible reason or explanation for his complete absence in the LOTUS compound. Naturally even if one did manage to find him he wouldn't give them a straight answer as to what he'd been doing, since he couldn't actually leave LOTUS without someone knowing so he had to be there always, and even then that was only if they could get him to talk at all.

So it was odd that he was now venturing out of his room at the mere mention of a Masque, an event of a type he had never heard of before, let alone attended. Einar was intrigued to say the very least and felt that perhaps a distraction was probably the best course of action to relieve him of whatever ailed, and so a few hours before it was time to go in he prepared himself accordingly.

He took careful steps as he made his way down the halls towards the ballroom, his metal boots contacting with the ground to create a sound that echoed against the walls like someone banging on a pan. Normally such a sound would have grated on his ears but not today as his spirits were trying to push themselves higher. His blond hair, normally spiked atop his head with the aide of an eye patch, sat combed down neatly and framed his masked face as it bounced with each step he took.

The mask he wore was one from his country, one made from his time so it was not a traditional kind, and it covered his face entirely down to where only the tip of his chin could be showed. The eye holes were covered in a type of glass that would enable him to see out but not others to see in, allowing the man a chance to not wear his eye patch for once and go without the fear of others panicking at the sight of an empty socket. Eianr slightly wondered if the design would frighten others as it was almost pure white save for a massive red streak that mocked a smile.

As he approached the room he was surprised to see a jam quickly get moved out of the way thanks to people he had never seen before, and beneath his mask he bit his lip as he continued onwards. He could handle this, there was no need to get nervous.

Mokoyis had to bite her lip to keep from laughing as the hamburger went flying. It was a good idea though, she should have thought of it herself- if she hadn't been so concerned for her dress of course. But it was a problem solved and she cast a glance at the crowd that had gathered around the blocked door before sweeping into the ballroom at last.

Shee had done a lovely job. The candlelight cast a dim luminosity about the room which disguised forms and provided a number of dark corners that could prove to be interesting later. And there was food and music and everything else the books had promised. Mokoyis was impressed, though she fought to keep her face in its normal stern expression.

Other people were already in the room, some gathered around what she assumed was a bar. None were dancing yet, or at least no one was doing anything she associated with dancing- there was no bouncing or spinning.

There was no one she recognized, that of course being the point of the evening, but it did make starting a conversation a bit more difficult.

Lai could hear a distinct merging of several voices behind the giant food looking creature, yet he couldn't believe his eyes.

"I was in the kitchen for too long. Yes, that is it." He reached his right hand over to his left wrist and gave it a sharp pinch before closing his eyes. "One...Two...Three..." As he opened them the obstruction was still there and the voices behind sounded frustrated. Lai even thought he heard a scream. Not wanting to be the only one not to help, Lai strode forward just as someone from the other side kicked the four-legged thing out of the doorway.

"Well...Ah hah..." He moved out of the near center of the floor, walking over to the now clear doorway view the first wave of LOTUS members that had arrived. He raised his hand slightly before dropping it, wondering if and how he should welcome them. Shee would probably do that part and with much less embarrassment. Still, he should be friendly; the whole point of the event was to get to know members new and old after all. His left hand pressed against the mask on his face, checking for stability before he tucked said hand behind his back and swept his right one out. A perfect gentleman's bow.

"W-Welcome to the Masquerade." Nope, couldn't hide his accent. His 'W's' still sounded like 'V's'. Many of them didn't look familiar so he was certain he wouldn't be found out so quickly. He hoped not at least. He nodded as a man walked by aiming his attention at the open bar, probably not seen by him at all. Secretly and behind a nervous little smile Lai wonder how many would get drunk this evening and what the repercussions of an open bar would be. Then he remembered the words Einar had told him about thinking things over too much, sighed, and let the thought go. Tonight was for fun, not for his worrying about such matters.

"Breathe...It will be okay...Do not freak out" He made sure only he himself could hear it as he took the masks and costumes as well as welcome the guests to the party, his voice a bit louder due to a metallic banging noise coming from the hall. Such a vast array of outfits...Oh no...

I took the word 'masquerade' too literally...Wait...No one has ever seen me in pants before, I am in a mask, and my hair is different in more ways than one. This could work!

Having received notification of the masquerade while in Rome, Asmadai had been able to take according measures while there. Such measures had included stopping off at that house and picking up a few things from the last time he'd actually attended a party. It had been some years ago, but he was gratified to find that the old costume still fit. Out of nostalgia, he'd gone to Maria's room- miraculously untouched- and gathered a few more things. His sister had been one for parties, especially masquerades. It still felt odd, though she was dead, to have any of her possessions.

Still, it seemed to have a certain continuity. Last time he'd attended a masquerade, he'd borrowed this same mask- featureless and made out of a mirrored substance. He could see out, but none could see in. Nor did he have to worry about his hair, since he'd acquired a wig in a black color that surely didn't occur in nature (though, looking around, he thought perhaps it did) and ended at his shoulders. Instead of his normal cassock or slacks and sweater, he'd dug out a black robe with silver embroidery around the hem that fastened at the throat with small opal buttons. The clothes underneath- consisting of white slacks and a matching coat with asymmetrical hemline- only showed when he moved faster than a sedate walk.

Which he was currently doing. Asmadai had been distracted by his journal once more- not writing, just reading and marveling at the change of tone between just a month ago and today. He didn't even really want to participate in this, but... He probably had to. It would be a good chance to meet the others (he knew he hadn't yet met every member of LOTUS) and to... stop wallowing.

It seemed he wasn't too late, though. People seemed to only just be streaming into the room- a dazzling river of costume, he thought as he tried vainly to identify someone he knew. No one, which was unfortunate... He looked about, spotted an androgynous person in black with a white mask with a fearful demeanor, as if about to cut and run. "Hello," he called, approaching the black-clothed person. He stopped a bit away and extended a black-gloved hand. "Are you alright?"

He had finally made his way into the area he needed to be in for him to be considered part of the Masque, the main ballroom as it were, and as a man nearby who stuttered out a greeting with a bow caught his attention he raised his eyebrows behind his mask. With everyone dressed as they were it would be hard pressed for one to identify another, and even though Einar was looking straight at Lai it had been so long since he had last heard the Russian's voice that he did not recognize it. His brain was moving of course to try and place the accent, as there was one, but his mind was in too much of a fog as of late to do him any real good.

Instead he merely bobbed his head to the bowing man as a return greeting, not sure if he should bend or not. The outfit he was wearing did allow for movement considering it was made for combat, the boots being designed to feel light on the feet of the wearer despite being made of metal, but he wasn't sure if he should follow protocol.

"I'm not sure if it would be proper for me to bow back or not."

His voice was muffled by his mask, the sound coming out more hollow, and he frowned for a moment at it.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 05, 2008 10:32 pm

Lai had given a greeting to a tall woman dressed in white and feathers whom he was sure he wouldn't know out of costume when he had realized the metal on stone flooring sound had gotten within him and the door. He turned to face the owner of the racket and was taken aback by the mask he was wearing. Startled, but nothing more than a few quick blinks to take in the whole picture and behind the mask he was wearing it would be even harder to tell that he was. He realized he had been momentarily stunned, so Lai covered that up with a polite smile and a nod back. At the statement he shrugged, making out the words but having some difficulty at that.

"It is all up to you com-...Ah...Sir." It was well known Lai would use the word 'comrade' to the men of LOTUS, excluding Einar and the Father for their separate reasons, so if that wouldn't be a dead giveaway to who was under the mask and tuxedo, nothing was. He hoped he had saved himself in time before the unrecognized Einar noticed. Lai cleared his throat with a quick covered cough, and still flushed a dull pink at his almost slip up, but due to the form of the mask it remained unseen. He'd have to be careful nonetheless. He gave a quick shake of his head before speaking again.

"Do not worry about it. Go and have a good time." He extended his right arm and hand out to the side, gesturing to the people already convening in the ballroom and lighting a smile back on his face. "I do not think formalities are required, but I am choosing to do so. I shall not prattle on and bore you though. There are plenty of people here far more interesting than I, plus trying to find out who is under what mask is part of the fun in this event. Enjoy yourself and have a good evening sir."

"Egads! Estrelas! I hear human- err, carbon-based- errr, PEOPLE!"

"NO PANIC, EPANINNY!" the other half yelled back. "WE JUST-"

The hamburger let out two earsplitting shrieks (one perfected toned, the other more like yodelling) as it flew through the doorway. Thankfully, the tomato snagged and slowed down the huge burger's ascent.

For a moment, all four legs skittered a while, with one half hollering, "NO PANIC EPANNINNY NO PANIC!" and the other half screaming, "THEY'VE GOT US! THEY'VE CAUGHT UP TO ME!" before, swaying terrifyingly, both sides miraculously steadied.

"I TELL YOU EPANINNY EVERYTHING OKAY!"

"Yes Estrelas!"

"NOW WE GO LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLE!"

"Yes Estrelas! Er..."

"What?"

"Can you jostle me a bit? My eyeholes got blocked."

Finally, the hamburger seemed to be in fuctioning order. It swiveled around on four legs and got a good look at everyone in the room.

"Epaninny you look at everyone!"

"Estrelas! YOU TOLD ME THIS WAS A COSTUME PARTY!"

"It is!"

"But... This is like Halloween! Everyone else is..." She stopped. "No one else is wearing a giant hamburger...." Everyone looked so glamorous and nice. Everywhere glittered, the light shattering off of smooth masks and textures everywhere. She looked around and spotted a few interesting ones, including one that looked like a unicorn, a frightening one with a bloody gash of a mouth, a knight, and a sack? At least they fit in with one other human!

Eponine sighed. At least if she kept her voice down, no one would recognize her....

"WE GO PARTY!" the left side yodelled and marched off at a brisk pace, oblivious to the previous traffic jam it had caused. The entire hamburger trotted over to the sack, which Estrelas seemed to recognize.

The hamburger wobbled a moment before skidding to a halt in front of Rodney (of course, they didn't know who it was, as evidenced by the next statement).

"YOOOHOOO MISTA LAI-LAI WAI YOU WEAR SACK?" Estrelas yodelled.

Meanwhile, there were many things between Angel the White Rabbit and the snack table. And that was a problem.

She had somehow gotten separated from her main mode of space-clearing, and someone nearly stepped on her- well she never!

And her costume kept getting snagged on things, for Angel the Rabbit was dressed as a chicken. The beak wobbled and one wing had fallen off, but it was a costume nevertheless, according to Estrelas' idea that "She look like chicken! No one know it her!"

She smelled alcohol and vaguely associated it with people giving her lots of food. Angel fluffed her tail and hopped off in the direction of the bar.

And she smelled a manpresence.

The rabbit glared up at Thasios and slowly growled from under the chicken hat.
