I thought I'd start a small thread since the presidential election is now over. Did/could everyone vote?
We actually voted early and absentee (since Ohio allows you to vote absentee if you want to, for no reason). It was sort of fun, because my husband and I sat down with the laptop and looked up information on all the Local and State candidates and issue. Except there was only one person running for Sheriff (I wonder if I could have run for Sheriff?), so we didn't look her up.

I'm reply because, for a second there, I panicked because I thought I might have accidentally posted this in the main forum!

Yes it's now over and somethings I'm happy with and other things I'm not. I may not agree with somethings but overall I'm glad Obama one over McCain (McCain is for the war and doesn't want to pull out which is bad for the economy which effects everyone).
I also thought prop four should of passed, parents have the right to know about their minor daughter getting an abortion, especially as there are risk involved (from what I was told, it still wouldn't ask for their permission but at least give them noticed ahead of time to let them know and there are special exception in cases of abusive parents, which the kids shouldn't be with in the first place if they are in danger).
I'm glad animals can get more space now though, they need to be treated more humanly.
And I didn't vote as I wasn't registered.

I'm not really certain yet how I feel about these laws. But, as it has been pointed out by wonderful members of this Guild, parents are informed of any other medical procedure their minor child gets, so I guess they should also be informed of this one - with help for children with abusive parents, though the first move should be to get them away from their unfit parents! Quote: I'm glad animals can get more space now though, they need to be treated more humanly. Yay! I'm glad that passed! Hopefully more States will at least allow factory farm animals more room (though I'm hoping for many other unethical practices on factory farms will eventually also be outlawed!). I'm sad that it looks like California's Prop 8 is going to pass.

Yes, I feel the same way. I mean they can't even get their ears pierced without the parents being informed and that is not as nearly as complicated as medical procedures (some procedures more risky then others). And yes, the first step is to get those kids away from their parents and into a home that is safe.
Yes, the animals need more room, not only for their health but ours as well. It's horrible how some of them had been treated.
Yeah, prop 8 passed. I agree that it's their life and that not everyone has the same religion or even religious so it isn't fair to them.

The quotes are broken, and it's really bothering me that I can't leave your name in and have it work, Sachiko-Sohma. I don't know if it bothers you, but I'm really rather OCD about crediting people. Quote: Yes, I feel the same way. I mean they can't even get their ears pierced without the parents being informed and that is not as nearly as complicated as medical procedures (some procedures more risky then others). Yes. From a legal (and medical) standpoint, it doesn't make sense that a minor needs parental permission to get a (rather safe) piercing, but can get an abortion (which I believe is more risking than getting one's ears pierced) without their parent or guardian being informed. I'm pretty sure that here, in Ohio, they've already passed legislation to inform parents - I'm not sure if it is enforced or not though. Quote: Yeah, prop 8 passed. I agree that it's their life and that not everyone has the same religion or even religious so it isn't fair to them. Agreed.

It's o.k., I know the quotes aren't working (has the same problem in the main forum).
I'm not sure how it is in other states (I know some do have parental notification as you said, weither or not they enforce them I don't know either but I'm sure most do as it is the law).

Quote: It's o.k., I know the quotes aren't working (has the same problem in the main forum). Oops! Something broke! A glitch with zOMG maybe? *grin* I'm sure they'll clear the problem up as soon as they can. Quote: I'm not sure how it is in other states (I know some do have parental notification as you said, weither or not they enforce them I don't know either but I'm sure most do as it is the law). I would imagine that most places do follow the law when it comes to this. Or really, when it comes to most laws, I think people tend to follow them. Heck, I don't even jaywalk anymore. *wink* (I'm also that annoying person who drives the speed limit, and no faster. Sorry.)

I'm glad Obama won. : )
As for Prop 4... whilst it does seem ridiculous that you need permission to get your ears pierced and not to get an abortion, I have to say I'm honestly glad. Abortion is a big thing that nobody should have to go through alone, but if a minor isn't telling her parents then she probably has reason not to.
As with abortion, my feelings about it are much more complicated than I could ever explain. >.<

As with abortion, my feelings about it are much more complicated than I could ever explain. >.< They are most likely scared that they would disappoint their parents or too embarrassed (even when people have a good relationship with their parents, many still don't want to tell their parents everything). If it's cause of abusive parents, they need to get help and find somewhere else to stay cause hiding things behind parents back it always a bad idea and won't help protect them (they are abusive, chances are they would hurt their child weither they are pregnant or not, or want an abortion or not, so either way it won't save them or keep them safe and there are special exceptions for cases like that anyways). This is bad idea. What if some complication happened and she got an infection or worse? People need to know so they could get her the right help. Many people may not like abortions but they would probably don't want to lose their daughter either. If I had a daughter, I know I wouldn't want her to hide something like that from me (may not agree with it but I still want to help her if there are problems). Me and my mom had discussions like this before. She said she dislikes abortion and only see it o.k. when necessary (something wrong with mother and/or child) but she would still would want to know if there ever was a situation like that so she can keep an eye out for possible problems and I agree.

I didn't really wait to vote, since I went pretty early, before class. I think it was mostly Dems who won the minor elections, but sadly not all of them.
I painted my nails blue and wrote "OBAMA" on one hand in white. I kind of wanted to try to do the logo, but that's a bit more complicated. I'd love to see someone airbrush nails with the red white and blue O logo thingy. 3nodding

I may not agree with somethings but overall I'm glad Obama one over McCain (McCain is for the war and doesn't want to pull out which is bad for the economy which effects everyone). *sigh* Actually McCain was -just- as for pulling out as Obama is. Both of them want to wait until the country is stabilized, which is the only smart thing to do really. They just phrase it differently, which makes it sound like the support different things. Anyways, I'm not happy that Prop. 4 didn't pass, because, even if I were Pro-Choice, I think I would recognize the dangers of not having parental notification. A non-Abortion related group called "Sarah's Law" supported it because, when there's no parental notification, it makes it possible for someone who is sexually harassing the girl to force her to get an abortion without her parents ever knowing. She wouldn't tell her parents about the sex, of course, because of typical rape-victim shame, etc. I'm also not happy that Prop. 8 didn't pass. That just pisses me off. I thought it had passed at first, and it was the one bright side to the liberals winning, but then this morning the news said it didn't. So yeah. Also not happy that Obama won, which I'm sort of surprised I'm the first one in here to say that, but not so so much.

She wouldn't tell her parents about the sex, of course, because of typical rape-victim shame, etc. Yeah, that is one worry. The other worry is that a daughter might feel guilty about having sex without her parents knowing and against their wishes. Assuming that her parents are decent people (not abusive), they would probably have advice and support for her. I worry that the girl might feel she has "reason" not to tell her parents, but that those reasons are unfounded.
