Is it POSSIBLE?!

My band director said, If I got an Alto Flute, I could play Alto for Jazz. I REALLY want to get a Alto for christmas/B-day.

But, he told me over the summer that Alto Flutes are only allowed in HS, but I'm not in High school...

Alto flute is in the same key as alto saxophone, so theoritically you could just read their music and there's no reason for you to not be in jazz band. Of course, I still fail to see why flutes in general can't be in jazz band. We can totally do jazz.

Plus, alto flutes are AWESOME. My new BD has one and is letting us borrow it for a flute quintet, as well as her bass flute. They are rather expensive though. sad I hope you can get one!

Alto flutes are awesome! :3 Well.. Altos aren't THAT expensive as lets say.... A new car or a Tuba.. But they are somewhat expensive. But Bass Flutes are EXPENSIVE! $3000. eek

wow i didnt know that
but the alto flute is like BIG
i saw one in the store once and i was amazed
i should tell that to my jazz band instructer because she made me learn how to play the bass clarinet when i play flute
also i have a twin who plays flute and is being forced to play alto sax who realy wants to play flute in jazz
also to me it sounds pretty cool on the flute

You can play alto flute for jazzband it's not unheard of just uncommon.

Idk if it's alto or a bass flute but I play flute in my jazz band so it IS possible

Altos can have either straight or curved headjoints.
Basses just have curved headjoints.

I play Soprano Flute in Jazz band too.

EDIT:
Yesterday I asked my dad to buy me a $700 alto. ( I hope I don't look greedy. D: ) He said no, but I'm still looking! biggrin
