Please tell me I'm not the only one that just heard of this! O_Q
The sci-fi channel set this up in 2000. It would appear that when that network's good it's very very good (BSG, most classisist adaptations) but when it's bad it's DREADFUL (no examples needed).
The plots are insane, but here was the first thing that hooked me: one of the main characters has a hoop skirt that turns into a ladder. Yup.
I'm planning on drilling through all 22 episodes, if I can find them all.

*strokes chin* Now that I must see.
From what I've seen of it now, it seems rather nifty; why has it vanished into obscurity?

It's the way of the Sci-Fi channel I suspect. "BSG" seems to be the only one they haven't buggered over in some way or another. Plus, this was actually marketed, from what I can tell, as "steampunk" so mayhaps the world wasn't ready for it eight years ago. Whatever "Firefly" must have been, it wasn't ready for. Noooo, it was sure as hell ready for "The Bachlor" taking over the time slot, but actual scripted goodness? Noo.. *stumbles off, bottle in hand, towards the sunset*

I hadn't heard of it, but so many things on SciFi channel are so completely awful... well I can understand why it didn't catch on. Other than BSG, their more popular shows tend to be imported... either from another country or another channel.
Now that you've mentioned it though, I absolutely have to track it down. Thanks!

Sci-Fi is an odd sort of channel, it can find these absolute gems, then drop them in favour of trash. Whatever appeases the masses, I suppose...

I think half the issues the scifi channel has is the low budget movies... It's like going to a highschool talent show... Most of it will be trash but you might see a few gems.

As it's not available on DVD, I don't feel too guilty about linking the found episodes on YouTube. All Hail Search-FuI'll remove this if not allowed.

Not anymore, since I moved and now I just don't have any TV at all.

I had heard of it and I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD. No such luck though, right? I'll make do with youtube though...
Another unusual gem of Scifi channel was Tin Man, but I'm pretty confident that most of you have heard of it.

Burn the Land & Boil the Sea... According to insiders at Sci-Fi, the station has a tendency to bag any shows when the effects budget gets a bit too uncomfortable for them. I no longer have the link to the statement, but many examples were given (such as The Dresden Files).
Popularity seems to hasten a show's demise. The more beloved it is, the more they want to better it, then it hits the "budget ceiling" and it's toast.
It's a shame really, 'cause we lose out on fabulous shows that way. Sci-Fi was one of the only stations that used to save great series from the other station's trashbins (like Firefly).
Such a pity.
...You can't take the Sky from Me!
