She was the hunted this time. An antelope. No, a gazelle. Her long legs made her look like she was gliding over the short dry grass of the rogue lands. But she was out in the open. A target for any meat-eater. She had to be careful if she wanted to survive. With the rest of her herd so far off in the distance, there was no way she would be able to get help from them if something decided to attack them.

The small wild dog pup was once again pretending, playing alone so her brothers and sisters wouldn’t call her weird for having such odd day dreams and fantastical adventures. Forget them- they didn’t know what it was like to have real fun anyway.

Little did she realize that she had wandered quite far from home. She was too busy pretending to be a prey beast that she had become oblivious to all matters she probably should have taken into real consideration. Young and happy, what did she care about getting lost?

In her mind it was impossible; she would always be able to sniff her way back home.

Treading the dirt as lightly as possible to mimic a gazelle’s light trot, she moved over to a small pond. It was only something that had formed because of recent rains, but it would serve her purpose. She needed a drink. All that pretending sure made her thirsty.

What the pup perhaps did not expect was that Zaafarani had taken up a place right beside the small pond for her resting spot that night. Since that meant she didn't have to travel any more that day, the large female had decided that would be the location of her resting spot that day as well.

It wasn't as though she seriously had anything better to do. A wild dog alone, who had already hunted, and was quite done with exploring... She had even done her daily excerisizes to keep herself in shape. What else could Ani possibly do with herself? Well... that would't require way more energy than she was willing to use anyway.

She simply didn't care enough to do anything else... and it was about then that she spotted the small pup coming towards her. Weird. She hadn't seen one since she had still traveled with her pack. Unexpected... that was what this little animal was.

Unexpected, but not univited. Ani made no move to shoo the girl away as she came close to the pond which Ani had already essentially claimed as her own for the day.

Haramia came to a stop once she saw a clump of yellow beside the water. She blinked, tilting her head to one side, then shifting it to the other as she observed the furry mass. It took her a moment before she realized that it was another wild dog, just a lot larger than her and a much brighter color. Having never seen one that looked like Ani, Haramia was taken by surprise.

Why couldn’t she be that cool-looking?

Smiling, assuming this stranger to be as friendly as the last one she had met, she trotted forward, plonking herself onto her hind quarters not too far from the other.

“Hello there!” she said lightly, her previous game completely forgotten, “why are you so bright? You look like the sun! Which mommy says I shouldn’t look in… but that’s besides the point! You’re really pretty. Um. Is this your water?” She asked, still wanting that drink.

Ani blinked, a little taken aback by the flurry of questions that hit her. When she was a pup, asking too many questions was generally considered to be a bad thing... but she supposed that other packs probably weren't the same as hers had been. And honestly, making a big deal out of it... was far and beyond Ani's ability to care.

"I was just... born this way." She answered in reference to her color. She had never considered it to be a big deal... nor had she ever been compared to the sun before. Mostly, she hadn't been around other creatures, but also all the wild dogs she had known well cared more about how many battle scars you had than what your color way. "I don't think I'm as bright as the sun... I'm just... yellowish."

As to her water, "Eh... I guess it's mine right now. You can have some if you want. It won't be mine tomorrow, and I won't drink it all, and neither will you." Seemed logical. After all, as soon as she left, she would forget it, and then it wouldn't matter.

“Yellowish is like the sun though!” protested Haramia, “at least, I think it is. I wish I was born yellow! I look like mud.” She said it as though stating a fact rather than showing any displeasure in the comment, the smile on her face never leaving, “when you get older, is it possible to change your colors? Cause you said you were born yellow. But is it possible to just BECOME yellow over time?”

That would be a new game for her later. She would pretend to be different colors and see which ones had the best characters in her mind.

Looking at the water, she got herself a bit closer, bending down and having a drink with the granted permission. The idea of playing in it was something she felt she couldn’t through with now, but she didn’t mind. She had found someone to talk to. That was pretty cool.

“My name is Haramia!” she said happily, “what’s yours?”

"I don't think you change color over time..." Ani mentioned... though she didn't want to upset the child, of course, so she decided it would perhaps be best for some type of encouragement. Maybe? She wasn't sure. She had never really been around puppies before... at least not ones she had spoken to, "But... who knows? Maybe you could change...? I don't know." She shrugged.

She watched the puppy drink from the small pond and sighed a little. It was an odd sensation for her to be around someone so much... smaller. Almost more fragile in a sense. She wasn't entirely sure what she should do... should she play with it? That seemed... strange. Did older dogs play games with younger ones? No, that couldn't be right... it didn't make any sense at all to her.

"I'm Zaafarani... Ani, if you like." Everyone she could remember knowing had always called her Ani. Maybe it was easier to say? Who knew. Seemed reasonable to say a much shorter name instead of a full one... but the Alphas in her pack had only ever called her Zaafarani when they were upset with her for... something or other she had done.

Haramia frowned, somewhat disappointed to hear that color always stayed the same. Such a boring world she lived in. She started to pant happily once the lady wild dog offered a runner-up comment to keep the hope alive. Young and easily swayed, Haramia was happy to renew thoughts that it was completely possible to change the way she looked over time. Maybe one day she would be bright red, or maybe blue like the water on a clear day.

That would be awesome.

Tail wagging furiously, the little pup watched Ani with bright, hopeful eyes, her drink completed. “Ani!” she repeated, “I like that name. I don’t think I could say Zaa… Zefernanannni….” She butchered the name, she knew it, but at least she was trying. She had never known anyone with a hard name to say before. Laughing, she jumped into the water, forgetting all about her previous hesitations.

“Do you want to play with me, Ani?!”

Ani nodded, glad that she had managed to avoid dissapointing the pup. That would have been... cruel and unessesary. Something that her old pack would have done without thinking... but going out of her what to be that realistic with such a small pup hardly seemed like it would be the reasonable thing to do. So she wouldn't.

Who knew? Maybe the pup would find some magical way of making herself change color. Like strange colored mud... or berry die... or tattoos... Whatever. If she really didn't like her color, she would probably find a way to change it.

"I'm glad... you like it. Ani is... shorter." Though she had never thought Zaafarani was too hard to say... but if the pup liked the way Ani sounded, that was fine for the older wild dog. Whatever made her happy.

But a game? Ani didn't know any... "I guess so... I don't really know any... games." Races were the only things she had done when she was a puppy. How fast could you get a message across the battlefeild? Always a reason for games. Ani didn't like to think about it. Hopefully this puppy had something a little more... innocent in mind.

“That’s okay!” Haramia offered, not at all surprised. Her mommy and daddy didn’t often like to play games, either. She felt it was because they didn’t know any either. Maybe being grown up meant not knowing about games. Maybe, because she knew so many games, she would never have to worry about growing up.

Even though she wanted to, just to see if she could find a way to make her fur change colors.

Wiggling her butt about almost as quickly as her tail was thrashing, she looked about ready to pounce on top of her new friend. Instead, she stayed in the tackle position, just watching Ani. “We could pretend to be adventurers!” she said, “or maybe you already are one? But I’m not! We can find some place to explore and hide from bad guys and stuff like that! It’ll be fun.”

She wasn’t even sure if Ani was willing to play her silly game, bounding off to the side, rolling in the dirt as though avoiding some kind of attack. On her feet, she looked back at Ani. “Do you want to be on my side, or an enemy?!” she asked with happy barks thrown in.

Excitement made her loud.

Ani tilted her head to the side thoughtfully. Play adventuers? That was... new. But the pup seemed to be very excited by the idea, so Ani decided that she might as well go along with it. She wasn't one to impede other's happiness... and who knew? She had never really played a game before... why put it down before she tried it?

"Alright... I don't know how to play it... so I'll play with you. I don't really adventure much..." She admitted, nodding her head a little bit, "So... I suppose... I'll go with you. You can show me what to do." That seemed like a good idea. When in doubt, she could learn a new idea.

She looked around them, "Should we... hide and wait for the bad guys," whoever they were, "or do we have to go and look for them?" That was the idea, wasn't it? She really wasn't all that creative...

But that didn't seem to matter. The little puppy seemed to be very excited about the whole thing. Ani was quite certain that Haramia wouldn't need a whole lot of prompting in the idea deparment.

“There’s no rules!” Laughed Haramia, “so you don’t have to worry about not knowing how to play! All you have to do is pretend… we can be looking for something!” she hummed, “we should go find what we’re looking for before the bad guys show up and take it from us first!”

She instantly started looking around, trying to make sure no bad guys were already heading towards them. She wanted to see if she could get this female to run around with her like a couple of her many siblings did every now and again. It wasn’t often that she was able to really get to play with another and not have it end in a silly bickering match about something only family members could find fault in.

This was going to be so much fun.

“Come on!” she said, her voice hushed by the mood she was trying to create, “let’s go this way… we’ll be able to get to that thing we have to find before those others can come after us!”

Carefully, she started to inch her way across the ground, the thin grasses something like lush meadow in her mind- providing them both more than enough cover. Her tail was dropped, dragging against the dirt as she stalked very delicately along.

Ani paused for a moment. No rules? How did one play with no rules? Well... the pup did seem awfully convinced that it was entirely possible... So Ani just decided to follow her lead. Not something she was used to doing, but she supposed she needed to get out more... and arguing or saying it didn't make sense would really just cause more problems than it would solve.

As Ani didn't believe much in arguing or bickering, she would make just as good a playmate as any, because she certainly wouldn't complain about whatever game they decided to play. Except maybe in her mind, but even that was quickly shoved aside. Over-thinking things was tiresom, and ultimaty, pretty useless.

Who knew? It could be more fun than anything Ani had ever done before.

"Alright... sounds like a plan." She agreed, going after the pup. She moved close to the ground, remembering her covert ops training from when she had been small. Maybe if it was more realistic, it would be more fun? She wasn't sure, "What are we looking for?"

She moved behind the pup, making herself just as small so that she would blend in as well.

Haramia stopped. Had they never figured out what they were going after? Or had she just forgotten? She had gotten so wrapped up in just playing out the hunting aspect of it that she wasn’t sure anymore. Grinning, she looked back at Ani, tail wagging for a moment since she was no longer stalking and didn’t have to worry about keeping low to the ground.

“I don’t remember!” she said cheerfully, as though the answer worked and they could be on their way again soon, “but I’m sure we’ll know it when we see it! Right?”

She was confident that would be enough. Maybe they could find a watering hole that needed to be protected or a hole in the ground that held some buried treasure within. Oh, she liked that idea.

“Let’s find a hole a dig it up!” she cheered, “we can look for treasure inside of it!” With that, she started on her way again, sniffing the dirt eagerly and keeping an eye out for any holes they could claim to be the location of their prize.

Her tail was still flailing behind her, moving with the same joy she felt in her heart. She was having fun with this bright female, even though she wasn’t really sure the female was enjoying herself at all.

How odd... the little pup had simply no idea what was going on. She had no idea what they were looking for or where they were going... very bizar. Ani wasn't entirely sure how to take that. She was used to wandering around and doing nothing. This wasn't entirely different... but the girl seemed very determined about doing absolutly nothing at all. That was weird... or maybe it wasn't? Maybe that was how children really acted. She hadn't exactly have a normal childhood. This seemed...

"Alright..." Ani said, deciding to just accept it and move on. It didn't really make a difference either way. If they'd know it when they saw it, then they'd certainly know it, "I'll follow your lead then..." She said quietly.

Who knew? Ani had never seen someone who was so determined to do... absolutly nothing. It was simply mind-blowing to have no goal at all, but still want to go ahead with the plan. But then, Ani didn't know anything about 'fun'. She had never really had it before. Not real fun. This was... an odd, yet pleasent 'new thing'.

"Find a hole and dig it up?" Well, why not? There could be bones underneith... or perhaps a rabbit hole, or something like that? Who knew, there could be something... or nothing. Ani had never really had high hopes for much of anything in her life. But this little girl... she was a little... inspiring, in an odd way.

Ani had never wanted to dissapoint anyone in her whole life. The girl included. Ani didn't know what fun was, exactly... but she assumed it could have been something like that? Maybe? She had no idea. But she wasn't sure she was having a bad time.

Haramia stopped, looking back at the female. Sitting down, she turned her head to one side, not sure if she was getting too ahead of herself or not. Sometimes she found her games so interesting she forgot she was playing with someone else. That usually ended up badly when it came to playing with her siblings. They didn’t always like to see her running around having more fun in her own mind than she was with any of them.

In all honesty, only a couple of them really liked playing with her, or so she believed from the way the moaned when she would ask if they wanted to go on an adventure.

She didn’t really care, though, happy to be on her own. The only thing that made it bad was that it upset others. She didn’t like that at all! It was supposed to be fun, after all, and if she was doing something that others didn’t appreciate something had to change. Even if it meant… not playing one of her games.

Until later, of course.

“I’m sorry,” she offered softly, looking at the dirt, “we don’t have to go find any holes! I just thought that might be where we find treasure… we can do something else if you want! Something… normal?” Her brother had said she wasn’t normal once. Maybe this was what he meant. Because she liked to roam around pretending to be a super hero rather than play some simple game of tag or hide and seek.

She watched the other, still smiling though she was a little worried she had accidentally frightened her new friend with her games.
