Cubs cubs and more cubs. That's all Bombei seemed to see lately! Mothers with bubs, nannies with cubs...it must be spring, or something. No matter where he went there were cubs. He felt bad for the prey animals of the land. They'd have a time with so many mouths to feed. It made some part of his heart ache, which surprised him. He'd never felt any urge to settle or make a family of his own, but he realized that his body was not getting any younger. In fact, by now most his age would have cubs of their own...even be on their second litter.
But then, in a way, he had cubs. Every little one that came to him to learn a story, or to pester, or to play, was his for the moment. Maybe that was what he needed to do. Stop off at the next pride he found and spend the day entertaining. That usually perked his spirits well enough.
And so he walked on, excitedly looking out for any signs of life...there! On the horizon, a small form. A cub! Where there was one there were usually more, and he quickened his step to meet the little...well he wasn't sure what it was. Not quite a lion, but not anything else either. Some sort of hybrid then. All the more reason for him to present himself. He knew well how some felt about the mixed breeds of animal appearing on the plains, and he thought it was a shame. A cub was a cub, to be loved and cared for regardless.
He slowed as he got nearer, not wanting to scare the little one off. "Hello there. Are you from a pride around here? My name is Bombei, and I tell stories...d oyou know where your parents are?"

Zoran had finally escaped his mothers' close eyes. They were always keeping a close eye on him. He was now free and had a slight bounce in his small step. His beautiful purple eyes gazed around as he tried to figure out what adults did when they weren't with a family. Suddenly, something caught his eye. Something lime green. What was that?! He growled softly and began to chase after the green thing, somehow creating a small circle in the dirt as he ran.
Once he caught the green thing, he chewed on it a little then squeaked slightly as he felt pain. He chewed lighter and the pain went away. This thing wasn't fun to chew, so Zoran began to lick it instead. It twitched slightly, which made the cub realize it was his tail that he was currently licking. "oh..." Was all he said before looking around to see if anyone saw what he had just done. When something grey in the distance, which looked completely foreign to the little cub. His tail flicked back and fourth as he watched the thing grow closer and closer. His focus was now on this thing that only seemed to be growing bigger and bigger as it got closer and closer.
Suddenly, something familiar showed up. The other thing's tail reminded him of his mothers' tail. Both of his mothers had tails that looked like this thing's tail. When the other thing spoke, Zoran let his ears perk towards the male. "Hi! Yeah, my momma's pride. My name is Zoran, and I... um... play games?" He wasn't quite sure how to answer the other. "Yeah, they are back that way." He flicked his tail, which was still a ruffled from when he was chewing on it.

Oh good! The little cub seemed friendly! That was good, some hybrids he knew were defensive, even at this young age. He sat down and swished his tail around to sit, wiggling, on his feet. "Oh, your mother's pride? That's nice. Is it a very big pride?" So he had a home after all. That was good. And if he was a member then it was likely a pride that accepted hybrids. Another plus. Bombei felt at ease now, his concern for the cub dissipating.
"It's nice to meet you Zoran. What kids of games do you play? When I was your age my favorite game was a racing game to climb trees." He looked around the cub to where he motioned. In the distance he could see what he assumed to be the pride Zoran spoke of. "It looks like a nice pride you have. So tell me, Zoran, what're you doing so far from home?"

Zoran shrugged his shoulders. He wasn't even sure if his mother was even part of that pride any longer, they didn't communicate all that much. "I dunno. My mommas keep my siblings and I close to home usually. They are usually very protective of us." He smiled at the fact that he happened to flee from his parent's sights.
"I like to play cat and mouse!" He jumped slightly when he spoke and perked at the male's game. "That sounds like fun! But I don't know how to climb trees yet." Zoran was big for his age, the biggest of his siblings, but was still fairly young at this moment. "Um..." He thought for a moment then glanced back towards where his family was. "Exploring." Was his best answer.

Bombei nodded. The cubs were protected, and that was good. Even little hybrids, and that was VERY good.
"Cat and mouse? I remember that. Do you like to be the cat or the mouse more?" Vague memories of running from and after other little blobs of fur surfaced in his mind. A shame, he couldn't remember anyone's face or name from his youth. "Well you'll learn, I'm sure. It's a very important thing to learn!" So was the rule about not wandering too far and talking to strangers, but ah, no harm done this time at least.
