This is my first time posting Here (lurker...) And I'm looking for some advice on how I can improve my coloring.. Mostly in the Clothing and Hair areas.. My two main OCs have white hair, So I'm not exactly sure the best way to go about it.. like.. at all...
I'm not the most creative with clothing, but that's something I'm improving on on my own, what I need help with is the fact that my clothing, especially when colored, looks very very flat and boring..
Really I'm just looking for coloring advice.. I've posted a recent-ish sample (haven't drawn recently due to work.. crying ) So, if you like, you can look at that and maybe give it a crit.?
Sample

I appreciate any help I get.. Thanks ^^;;

Lovely~!
You characters are splendid, hun heart
And to give you some advice on shading hair, I did a sort-of line art..
I hope you don't mind sweatdrop

So, the trick is to remember that there is a light source comming from somewhere (even if you can't see it in the drawing)
also, that hair situates itself on the head, which is rather round, much like a ball
and that when shading the hair , it tends to take on the curvular shape of the head underneath
the only difference is that the hair also has flat planes in it, so when shading the hair, it's best to block out areas where the hair is flat and give that part a solid shade
after you've mastered that, then you can go onto giving your character's hair individual-looking hairs

Also, when shading white hair, it's best to use either a gray-blue gradient, a gray-purple gradient, or a gray-megenta gradient (in my opinion)
but you can also use a regular gray gradient if you wish.
To illustrate what I mean: (these are only the colors I talked about)

As for the clothes, the same type of rules apply:
(and skin, though I didn't show it)

Also, when it somes to designing clothes, it's best to have a feel of the characters personality. Once you know what your character's like, then think of what someone with that type of personality would wear and draw that.
If that doesn't work (it usually doesn't for me XD) then I suggest googling clothing images from the internet for inspiration for designs.
To make the clothes more interesting, however, it's best to give them folds, and have them conform to the chracter underneath.
Like so: (sort of)

I hope this helps, also 3nodding
