The breeze was so lovely on her scales, the encroaching sunlight from the rising dawn already sending tendrils of warmth across her moonlight cooled scales. Mitternacht sat perched atop her favorite sunning stone, overlooking the fields at the base of her mountain home, honoring the sun's awakening with her utmost attention one again.
Her life in her home was a peaceful one without many disturbances. Sure, she did get the occasional visitor but none ever stayed too long. Essentially, she considered herself to be alone in the vast majority of her existence on her mountain; with only her familiar, the mysterious coyote Omen to fill her silence with conversation.
With a sigh, she coiled her tail about her; the warmth of the sunlight reminding her of the nights chill even as it chased it away. This new dawn brought with it another day of possibilities, another day of observing her territory and studying the minute changes in all the little lives and creatures in her forest she held so dear in her heart. Would the squirrel complete her nesting in time for the arrival of her young? Would the fox be able to teach her new wobbly kits how to capture insects? All of these small things both fascinated her, and made her ponder her own future in her wilderness.
Gazing off towards the top of her mountain she closed her eyes slowly, once again submersing herself in daydreams and wonderments of all her possibilities.

Akemi twisted his way through the cool, summer air. His golden eyes were closed, as he made his way across the moonlit sky. The light from the full moon caused his scales to shimmer and dance. It wasn't windy up there, which was nice. The sky was a place that Akemi could relax. He didn't have to worry about running into anything way up high. And it was cool enough to be comfortable, not too hot, not too cold. A quiet yawn escaped past Akemi's lips, and he opened his heavy eyes to look down at the ground below. He had been flying all day long, and he was starting to get tired. Usually he would have stopped before dark, though the thought of the cool night air drifting around himself was too much to resist. Akemi slowly started descending towards the ground. He'd land near the mountain that stood tall ahead. Akemi had left his home two days ago, needing to escape from his family. It really wasn't as bad as it sounded... or maybe it was. Akemi just had to take a break for taking care of five teenage Pan'luns, all who had raging hormones and rebellious streaks. Since Xai had left him alone, herself choosing to leave and go off to find Sofiel, it was Akemi's responsibility to watch the children while she was gone. And he did. For almost a whole month. It was a pain, with the twins pulling pranks. Mu-lin and Rampel being so close, and yet he could sense a tension between them that confused him so much, and then Alperen being his normal unnaturally silent self. Akemi just had to take a nice, short vacation. So, he had left Naruki and Fenris in charge, and had taken off. Akemi opened his eyes fully, when he felt the soft mountain dirt beneath his feet. He landed on his feet with a quiet 'thunk'. He took in his surroundings, hoping that shelter would be close.

Mitternacht was heading home after a day spent watching over her territory, assuring that all her little creatures were alive and well. The day had been long and calm, her favorite kind of course, and she had managed to clean out her cave of the minuscule amount of dust it had acquired.
She slowly strode out onto her rock, pleased with the amount of work she had accomplished in her daylight hours and ready to bid the sun farewell for the evening. As she approached the edge of her stone perch, she glanced to the moon, which would soon herald in her namesake time of day.
As she glanced out over her fields however, she noticed something out of place; there was a form alighting in the grass several yards away, and rather unfamiliar one at that as well. Almost instantly her familiar was at her side, seeming to appear out of nowhere as usual. "Mistress, you seem to have a fellow P'an-lun approaching your territory... What shall I do about it?" Mitternacht waved him off, observing the visitor closely. "It'll be fine Omen, you may return to your business my friend, I'm sure I can handle one visitor... Besides, the hour of my namesake approaches and my coloring affords me slightly better camouflage if I desire to hide." Omen dipped his head and just as stealthily disappeared from her side.
She hunkered down on her rock, her silver eyes keen on her visitor who approached her mountain so steadily and calmly, her tail darting lightly from one side to another awaiting for them to draw close enough for further inspection.

Akemi made his way across the grassy field that concealed him. His stomach rumbled softly, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since that morning. He would hunt right now, but he didn't have the energy in him. He'd settle for fruit tonight. He wondered over to the side of the clearing, where a tree line was stretched out along the field. A lone fruit-bearing tree stood amongst the others. It's shiny red fruit hung from it's highest branches, causing Akemi to sigh and stretch his long body upward so he could reach them. He picked two of the fruit, one for now and then one for when he found shelter. He took a bite of the fruit, almost groaning at it's delicious tangy flavor. He finished the whole fruit in a few bites, and was surprised that it had almost filled his empty stomach. Turning away from the tree, Akemi continued on in the dark. The moonlight was his once source of light, though his eyes where good enough that he could still make out things at a distance. Akemi moved on, until he felt a slight change in his surroundings. A twig cracked a few yards away. Akemi knew that there was something else out in this field. And it was aware of him.

Mitternacht leaped smoothly from her stone perch, gliding into the air as apposed to heading down to the earth below her for a landing. From the skies above she could easily watch her visitor, her scales affording her small disguise so long as she didn't stray too close to the moon above her.
It quickly came to her attention that Omen had circled the visiting painter, most likely in an attempt to get a better look at him before obeying her request to leave them alone. She shook her head slowly for but a moment, and circled down to the trees; alighting on a study branch one of the largest trees in the forest contained. She didn't cringe as a new branch, barely a twig, snapped beneath her unknowing form, keeping her eyes, instead, in front of her.
She could barely make out the shape of her visitor in the woods ahead of her, deciding that it would be a matter of moments before they appeared in the small clear area created by her tree and would surely spot her. Taking a moment to compose herself for a proper greeting her tail lashed a few times in a very feline manner; her interest in the visitor growing as they drew closer.

A quick lashing movement from the corner of Akemi's eye, caught him attention. His head snapped that way, and he felt the hair on the back of his neck rise in anticipation. His eyes searched the trees, almost immediately finding the source of motion. From what he could make out in the darkness, it was a Pan'lun, slender in shape and form. Most likely a female, seeing as if it was a male, it would have most likely attacked by now. The Pan'lun didn't seem to be hostile, just curious. Akemi cleared his throat softly, not feeling like it was a good idea to make any loud noises that might set the creature off. He stepped forward, towards the tree. "Hello?" He called.

She slowly tilted her head, curiously gazing at the Pan'lun male on the forest floor before her, her silver eyes catching a small amount of the moons glow. She eyed him for a few moments, determining her wasn't a threat to her before she decided to address him.
Remaining on her perch she spoke in a calm clear voice, her eyes remaining keen of every minute movement of the Pan'lun below her, lest he make a sudden move. "Hello... Might I ask who you are? For a Lady need know whom it is who walks across the threshold of her home, so she may welcome them to her table for a respite."

Akemi could not help but to purr deep within his throat at the lovely sound of the female's voice. And yes, it was a female. He stopped in his place, still trying to make out her full shape. She must have been of dark color, since had she have been lighter, it would have made things easier to see. Akemi cleared his throat, choosing to mimic her tone, though in a respectful way. "My name is Akemi," He took another step for the tree, treading at a slow pace so that he would not frighten her. "I am sorry if I intruded on your land, being disrespectful wasn't apart of my intentions," he apologized, truthfully. He had no idea that any other Pan'luns resided in this area, and he should have thought ahead for something like this.

Mitternacht watched the approaching Akemi for a moment more, determining this visitor wouldn't be any trouble for her at all. Closing her eyes and sliding from her branch with the lithe grace of one accustomed to life in the trees, sliding to the earth like a ribbon of the night sky itself.
She stepped lightly towards him, allowing a patch of moonlight to fall over her scales so her mighty visitor could view her with a little more ease. "It's a pleasure to meet you Akemi," she spoke in the same smooth tone as before, "worry not, for you haven't intruded upon my home. In fact you are quite welcome here. My territory seems to draw nothing but a lack of visitors, so your arrival is certainly most welcome, and certainly not infringing upon respect."
She arched her neck ever so slightly, dipping her head in a respectful bow. "My name is that of the heavens above you at this very moment, I am Mitternacht... My namesake is this time of night that you have so graciously come to visit my forest, the glorious point of Midnight." Looking up from her small bow she angled her head slightly, inquisitively. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this surprise visit, Akemi?"

Akemi could not help but to admire how she gracefully moved closer to him. A feeling of ease rested over him, allowing his shoulders to untense, and his body to just relax. From the way that the female Pan'lun, spoke Akemi felt that he had no reason to fear her. She told him that he was gratefully welcome, and he could not help but to believe every word. His sense of reason tried to figure out why he felt that he could immediately believe her. Shaking his head, Akemi listened in when the female bowed to him. "Mitternacht," he murmured her name, testing it on his tongue. It surely matched her. The way elegant way that she spoke, the darkened blue color of her scales. Akemi almost visibly snapped into attention when she asked him of his visit. He smiled sheepishly, "I needed some time to relax. It has been awhile since I last got to just sore through the air without a care. Right now, I just care to relax and forget my troubles." Akemi's golden eyes looked down at his front feet, as he played nervously with a pebble.

Mitternacht smiled warmly at Akemi. "That's perfectly fine, taking a break from your hardships and forgetting about life's troubles should happen often for everyone. You're entitled to them as well Akemi." She turned slowly, facing towards her mountain.
"I don't have many troubles here, it's peaceful all the time. So I needn't worry over many things.." she glanced back at him with a friendly smile. "That is what makes my home ideal for others to relax in. Even if it's only for a few hours Akemi, you need a rest. I am more then happy to open my home to you for just that purpose, please, feel free to relax here as long as you wish."
Mitternacht glanced back up to the mountain before her before speaking again. "On the side of the mountain I have a large cave den with plenty of shelter should the weather sour, or it grew too cold. The mountain stream is full of fish and the water is clean, and there are many fruit trees scattered throughout the forest that could easily feed even a male of your stature. So my home is well equipped for your visit." With a pleased puff of air she turned to him with another little bow. "I should probably take my leave now so you can settle in. However, if you think the air too brisk, simply follow me and I will prepare some accommodation's for you in my cave."

Akemi spoke up quickly, " I would like some company," he paused, scratching a ear nervously with a sharp claw, "If you don't mind, that is. I can understand if you are busy with other thing, or are tired." He smile sheepishly, "It has been long day, after all." Akemi was still full from the fruit, and the air did seem to be abit too brisk, for his own tastes. And he was quite curious as to what a Pan'lun like Mitternacht's cave may look like. He had been living in Xai's mansion for the past few years, and it had been awhile since he was able to get out and explore. He felt couped up, and it was nice to get out again. If he didn't have to worry about a angry female, and six teenagers at home, he'd run off to the wild again. Just to bask in freedom once more. But then, at the end of the day, Akemi knew that he'd probably end up missing it all. His golden eyes waited for the Pan'lun's response, patiently.

Mitternacht nodded to him, turning and starting to walk towards her cave. "As you wish. Please, follow me and I'll get you to my cave. I certainly don't mind the company; it's usually rather quiet around here. As I said before, I don't get many visitors."
She started skipping off towards her cave, checking behind her every once in a while to make sure Akemi was following her. "As for being tired, I fear you'll have to bear with me for a while. I don't need very much sleep, and I can surely keep you company until you desire rest. What kind of hostess would I be if I didn't keep my guest company?"
She paused for a moment at the edge of a large clearing on front of her, tail flicking back and forth slowly. "It'll be faster if we fly from here, being that my cave is up on the mountain, it's easier to glide in the front door then to run up to it through the woods. It's a lot harder to get lost too."

Akemi followed close behind the lithe female. He watched intently to the muscles in her back legs flex and release. He wasn't surprised hearing the wise female didn't get much company. This area was a ways away from any large gathering area's for Painter's, especially Pan'luns. That was the exact reason why Akemi had traveled here. He felt his gaze shift upward to the night sky. She really did remind him of night time. Her name fit her so well. Akemi could not help but to raise a slender black eyebrow, when hearing that she wasn't tired, and didn't care if she slept tonight. He had always had a 'bed time' schedual that Xai would usually keep him to. They'd both take their turns tucking in the children, putting them to bed and then would retreat to bed themselves and fall asleep minutes after. "Thank you, again." Akemi was lucky to have found such a wonderful hostess. He nodded his head when she suggested to take flight, and took a running jump up into the air. He arched his back slightly, when he settled in midflight, and let the gentle breeze carry him further up into the sky. He glanced back down to the female and smiled, "Lead the way,"

Mitternacht slid into the air as simply as if she were stepping into a stream; twisting her body smoothly until she was at an equal altitude with Akemi. "Alright, just follow me this way to the mountainside over here, my cave entrance is disguised and we will need to land on a tricky ledge." She slid off into the night sky, her scales flashing slightly in the moonlight as she directed herself towards the rock face. She glanced back behind her slightly, making sure he was keeping up for fear of him loosing sight of her scales on the matching backdrop of the sky. "Flying this way, it shouldn't take us more then a handful of minutes to make it to the rock face, and then all we need to do is find my ledge and land, alright?"
