Out Of Character Forum Introduction

Since you've no doubt stumbled upon the Out Of Character Forum, for those of you who don't know, this is what it's for. Rather than taking up space in the main forum or the chatterbox, or cluttering up RP threads with OOC, this is where you can do so. The original intent for the factions was not to role play, but since that has taken off in full force, this location is made for you to discuss the mechanics of your role plays, recruit others, plot, and decide outcomes. Each faction or house is encouraged to make a main thread for their role play here. Lesser subjects, suggestions, and questions can be addressed in their own threads, but it is encouraged, like in all of Undergaia, to look before you post and see if your needs can be met in other threads.

Please enjoy, and stay on topic!

Then why the hell did they waste money making sub-forums for the cities?

Isn't that why they were created? For the RPing to take place there?

Otherwise....I wouldn't see the point of creating them....and my thread is going to stay in Ulorbbath.

You'll have to ask Draevir the details on that one. Actually, the RPing was supposed to happen in the RP forum.

No one's asking you to move your thread, there is no need to get snappy.

I didn't mean for it to sound snappy, I was just saying...>>

it just seems messy to me to have the posting spread out.... i think it should all be in one single forum, but of course this is too large for it. (or is it? i've seen WAY bigger RPs in one thread!)

I like having everything partitioned off, and then the group threads. Trans: thread per faction, then the "city commons" thread for all factions to convene in, and a "caverns" thread for all inter-city interactions.

'cause what goes on within the houses themselves shouldn't be common knowledge. That's why two houses have separate guilds for RPing behind closed doors since there was a bit of a loss of trust before I left. That was my impression anyway.

So am I. I've been in huge RP guilds, i.e. School of dedicated roleplayers, the suites, etc. And, having been a moderator on numerous occasions over the years... I have never come across a guild, much less a well-functioning online community without everything categorized and sectioned. To me, having everything in one big forum is one big ugly, confusing mess. Most forums with a large user count of any sort will have subsections. And from personal experience, categorizing topics makes being a moderator a much simpler task.

But romanov, I do have to agree a little with you. I would have preferred the roleplaying go on in the roleplaying forum, where it was supposed to, and then have the factions set aside for recruiting and discussant purposes like they were intended.. then I wouldn't really feel like this thread was needed, but there is the whole secrecy issue. You can't really count on everyone to play fair. But at the same time, it creates gaps in the community. Most people seem pretty opposed to changing it now, though, and I can understand that. There are a lot of minor threads that would simply be added baggage mess if moved along with the larger ones to a main subforum.

Yeah, UG's gone too long with a system that could be improved so that no one wants the improvements. That's why I like proboards. You can password protect any little section so that only the house can view their private house board, and then they can choose to have a public one if they wish. I don't know if you can password subforums on Gaia, but no one would want to now. XD

EDIT: And you guys should see my folders on my computer. XD all my stock is so meticulously sorted it's pathetic. XD

You can make it crew only, but that's about it. It might be something to bring up in the feedback forum though for a site suggestion.

Good housekeeping and organization is something I've sorely neglected. I believe Serethiel's experience combined with her openess to everyone's input makes her exceptionally qualified to sort out these issues.

Truely, my opinion stands that Faction threads (in the Factions forum) would be better suited to organizing, recruiting, and discussing, semi in character or out of character, but not burdened with lengthy RP. Ideally, the faction threads would be administrative, or even just chatty, to help bind faction members together (as an internet gaming clan or online game guild/team might). The four towns and their respective factions were conceived to make it easily identifiable to new members that layers and heirarchies of competitiveness (as befit the drow) would be immediately

Just because that's my opinion, doesn't mean that it's a rule. The faction forum threads are meant to be "used as the faction leader sees fit." Thus, RP's sprung up in several faction threads. Though I never intended it, I do enjoy reading those RP's (when I have time and lack of distractions, lol).

What I had hoped originally though, was that the factions would take their RP to the RP forums. A faction thread might even have links from posts in the faction thread to actual RP threads going on in the RP forum.

Anyhow, I'm rambling. The point is, since things went in a different direction, Serethiel has come up with a very promising solution. We can try it and it just might work out really well. wink

I'm a little confused by it? How do you get into a faction? Once you're in, do you do your RPs there? What's the point of the factions?

I am quite perplexed.

Do I create a character? Does my character have to be evil? I notice the idea of the "evil" dark elves is pure DnD. Clearly Gaia dark elves are not evil. ^_^;;

Gloomcookie... a short answer to all of your questions. No, hehe.

You don't have to be evil, you don't have to be DnD, you don't have to create a character outside of your normal Gaia persona even.

We accept you as you are, and though most of us are stereotypically evil (or just criminally mischevious as the case may be), we are glad you are here with us adding to the whole of the experience we have come to love called UnderGaia. Yay us! 3nodding

Let me get this clearly. This is the forum to say, "come join our faction/house/company." right?

Where would we put up ideas for a roleplay without actually starting one? There's no point starting a roleplay thread if no one will play. So I want to see if anyone actually will play along the premise first.
