 It had seemed like a good idea at the time... Her rush to freedom. Her escape from those horrible creatures, the land that smelled of nothing but death, and the unending pain. It had all seemed perfect!
Living land... Clean water... Fresh air... And not a scrap of food in sight.
She had never in her life hunted. She did not even know where to begin. And, white the grass was fresh and living, it hardly filled one's stomach, no matter how much you ate. Actually, it seemed to be making her rather sick!
The young canine heaved a heavy sigh, lowering her head in thought. At the moment, she was laid out comfortably across some heavy rocks, at the edge of a deep ravine. The soft grass didn't yet suit her for bedding. She was far to used to the unforgiving stone.
She needed water... And she needed food. The water would not be too difficult. If she HAD to, she could turn around, and return to the last small pond she had come across. Food was the real problem. Even since her freedom, she had found no other living creature.
Could they hear her cautious, yet clumsy steps...?
Could they smell the heavy scent of death, that she still carried from that horrible land, long before she reached them?
This new life of freedom seemed to have already taken a turn for the worse.

 Asa was searching for food for his sister when he caught the scent, one which suprised him. It was getting late at night... but he could smell something different. When he had lived with a group of hyenas, the scent of death had never been far. They had always been scavengers of a sort... but this was something entirely different. A creature who had lived very close to an old death.
Asadaki moved quietly towards it, curious. No smell of fresh death that he would have expected on a killer... no, this was someone who had been close. A soldier of some sort, perhaps? When his pack had to fight off other hyenas they could smell like that... The scent even seemed to be that of a hyena but... something seemed off.
He rounded a corner, and that's where he saw the young wild dog. Certainly not a hyena... and she did not seem to be all that well from what Asadaki could see of her.
"Are you alright?" He asked softly, not wanting to startle her. She most certainly didn't look like she was alright. She looked like she needed help.

Unfortunately, the second he began to speak, she jerked into awareness, turning towards him quickly.
Cobalt eyes slowly went wide in fear as she took in the sight of him. Delicate ears flattened back, a slight whine escaping her.
A Hyena.... A Hyena had found her!? How!? Why!?
Already she was slowly edging away, hoping to try to escape before any harm could be done to her. Her fear was more than obvious. The wounds were too fresh in her mind. The sight of that species...
He had asked her something. Was she alright? Well, the answer to that should be very obvious.

Asadaki watched her for a moment, then took a step forward, "Woah... Woah, wait, don't worry! I'm not here to hurt you I swear." He promised her, seeing the horror on her face. She was afraid... and now he could tell that she was very afraid of him.
But why would a wild dog be afraid of a hyena? He had met a few directly. Most of them had been kind... warm creatures. This one was very cold, and very afraid, and he did not know how to comfort her. He could only hope that his concern for her well-being showed on his face. He didn't want anything to happen to her.
"Listen... I'm not going to hurt you. I want to help you... I just wanted to know why you smell so much like a hyena? You don't have to answer... I'm only here to help you." Why was she so afraid? What could any hyena have done to her, to make her so afraid of him?

Help..? He wanted to help her? And he actually looked concerned. That wasn't right at all, was it..? Her captors... Her masters. They would never bring themselves so low as to even pretend to be worried over her well-being... So, he would not be a part of that pack?
Long ears twitched up slightly as she listened to his voice, before they quickly flattened back again.
" Hyenas... were my masters... " The voice was soft, weak almost, from much disuse. She really hadn't thought of it. That there would be Hyena's outside of that horrible place as well. " Why do you want to help me..? "
The mistrust in her tone was obvious, despite the weakness of that voice. Trust would not come easy towards any creature, but least of all Hyenas.

Asa couldn't help but be taken a little aback. Masters? Had these hyenas she spoke of used her as some kind of slave? Well, that certainly explained why she was so afraid of him, but it did nothing for the hyenas nerves at the prospect of being close to another pack of them.
Not after what his own pack had tried to do to Dabiku... Though he found it unlikely that this pack would be hostile towards him or his sister. But he wouldn't let them or anyone else touch her. Their impure filthy paws... slavery. Worse than the dirt under his feet.
"Forgive me..." He sighed, looking quite upset, "I did not mean to show disrespect... I want to help any creature who has been treated badly. By hyenas, or anyone else. No one deserves that. My sister and I... we escaped our own pack not long ago." Though it certainly seemed like it had been a long time, "They were trying to kill her... You don't have to believe me, but if you'll let me, I'll do my best to help you get as far from them as you can."

" I... I appreciate it... " She murmured out softly, looking up to the Hyena a moment, before looking away. She had never met such a kind creature, Hyena or otherwise. Perhaps it would be fine, just this once, to allow another to help her... Just this once.
" Thank you... Asa... " She said softly, moving to slowly get up off her shrunk-back position on the ground. It would be tough, but, with his help, she could finally establish herself a new, free life... She would follow the Hyena.. for a while.
