Tuesday evening, and Spins was listening to Other, a punk band that had been playing at one of his usual hang outs lately and had talked him into buying a CD. It was... horrible, and lacking in the charm that the lead singers stage presence managed to give them live. But Spins didn't mind, happily screaming along as he finished doing his very best half assed job at cleaning up the place. Not that it was a mess to start, really. Jaden never let it get too bad.

Jaden was at a boyfriend's place. One of the long lasting ones, that Spins was A. comfortable with and B. had had a few words with about Jaden's current state of mind. He was confident that there wouldn't be any urgent phone calls this time.

Spins had decided that they were going to have dinner. He was a fairly good cook, the skill something he had picked up in the initial days after Jaden had moved in with him. Caring for a highly finicky near invalid taught one some unusual recepies. He had picked up, through careful questions, that Dom wasn't much of a cook herself.

So, in return for the gunfight, Spins had decided that they were going to make dinner together. It would, he hoped, be fun. If not, well, they'd do something else.

He hadn't told Dom his plans yet, only invited her over. He was currently waiting for her to arrive.

So far as it went, when Spencer had invited Dominique over, she was highly oblivious as to what her newest date with him was to entail. It was probably for the best, too, since had she known, she might have just called to take a rain check. She however, was rather looking forward to meeting Spins again, but could easily surmise that it wasn't likely to be quite as... 'exciting' as their last outing had been. Not that she had any problem with this, as sometimes it was nice just to spend a night in. And, it being tuesday, Dominique was sure that, should any emergencies arise, someone else could handle them- at least for one night.

Then the real trouble had begun. What did one wear on what she assumed was supposed to be a more casual encounter? Thus far, Dom had been wearing mostly business suits- things that fit her perfectly, but were more for the appearance of intimidation and professionalism than they were appropriate for a proper evening out on the town- or at home, for that matter. She'd fumbled through her closet several times, before realizing that she hadn't bought a single pair of jeans since she'd been sixteen. Huh. While Spencer probably wouldn't have been offended if she'd chosen a pair of slacks and a nice blouse, Dom was feeling that, for once it might be just a little bit boring to defer to the easiest solution. So finally, she settled on a simple, but elegant little black cocktail dress. It wasn't overly dressy, and, was comfortable. Paired with a black pair of heels, a little makeup and a quick brush of her hair, and she was out the door, keys to her Mercedes in hand. A part of her had wanted to take her bike again- but, the v-necked dress dress that stopped just above her knees contested this idea, and so she settled with her car.

In almost no time at all, she had arrived at Spencer's apartment complex, and, parking where the signs said guests were allowed to, Dominique climbed out of her car, and, headed to the door, so that he could buzz the door, and let her in to the place. She shivered a little; it was a chillier evening than she'd been expecting, and as such, hadn't bothered to bring a coat... But now she was regretting the decision, just a little.

Oh well, if he was inviting her over she doubted that much of their date was to be spent outside, hopefully. Her finger hit the button with his name listed beside it, and, placing her free hand on her hip, she waited.

Spencer kicked the Stop button on the stereo when the buzzer sounded, cutting the band's singer off mid-scream. Well, that was enough of that, wasn't it. It didn't seem like the sort of music that mob bosses listened too. What did she listen too? The pitiful cries of her conquered enemies?

Yeah, that sounded about right. Well... if the night went well there'd be cries of some sort.

Heh. He smiled easily as he buzzed her up. Getting ahead of himself there but not caring because hell, why not. This was date three. She'd forgiven him even Jaden. And honestly, at the moment, he was just missing her company. He liked being around Dom.

Odd feeling. A bit discomfiting. He liked people, that was true. But he liked people the way he liked toys. They entertained, kept him busy. Jaden was the only real exception to that.

Jaden and...

Damn, he was getting ahead of himself. She'd be up the stairs any second. Mind in the game, dammit.

She pushed the door open as Spencer buzzed to allow her in, and she wondered briefly whether or not the other truly knew what he might have been getting in to. She liked him, and this she could admit with surprising ease. This was an important thing for a working relationship- or so she'd heard.

She headed up the stairs at a relaxed pace, not slow enough to keep him waiting for too long, but not quick enough to make her seem anxious. Her purse swung at her side, and for once, it lacked the weight of a gun. She'd opted to leave it in the car, for once, as, if there was a need for it in Spencer's apartment- well. Then it was probably already too late.

Upon reaching Spencer's door, for a moment, Dominique merely stared at it. Normally, when it came to doors, she was either watching as someone knocked them down, or barging in. Neither of which seemed particularly appropriate right then- so she motioned to do the polite thing.

The back of her knuckles met the solid wood, and, she knocked.

Time to figure out what exactly it was Spencer had planned for the evening.

There should have been something, shouldn't there have? The knock on the door should have brought a fluttering of nerves, a quickening of the blood. Spins started to grin.

He waited a breath before opening the door, not hesitating for effect but instead glancing once more over his shoulder to make sure that the apartment hadn't destroyed itself while he wasn't looking. He wouldn't put it past the place.

That settled, he opened the door.

"Dominique. Glad you weren't shot on your way over." He stepped out of the doorway while he greeted her, allowing her access to the apartment.

There wasn't much to see. There was a small kitchen, a living room decorated mostly in shades of red, and a hallway leading down to the two bedrooms and the bathroom.

The kitchen showed some signs of use, as Spins had been preparing before Dom arrived. There was a cookbook out and open, some vegetables scattered about the counter.

Mmm, food.

Dominique smiled smoothly as Spencer opened the door for her, and she greeted him, for the moment, with a polite nod. Going in for the kiss at the beginning of the date... Well, that might just set things off on a step that would ruin Spencer's plans, wouldn't it? And she was oh so curious about those...

"Mmm. I guess it's been a busy night for those who would have otherwise been trying to shoot at me. Unless you happen to have hitman waiting in your living room..." she peeked playfully over his shoulder, as if to check, before smirking and moving easily into the other's apartment as she was allowed to.

She looked everything over with an appraising eye; it was unintentional, but it was ingrained in Dom to be slightly critical of everything. This aprtment, however, was not half bad. Most people didn't decorate their homes in red, and certainly not different shades of it. Overall though, she liked the apartment well enough. It wasn't so bad, and, while she did prefer her sprawling mansion home, it wasn't a place that she would turn her nose up to being in.

She didn't take her heels off- at least, not right away. She wasn't sure she was supposed to, since, she didn't know the plans for the evening. However, she was quick to notice Spins himself wasn't wearing any shoes on his feet, and, her eyes sweeping over the kitchen for a moment...

Ah. So that was it.

She leaned down to undo the straps of her shoes, before kicking them off easily, her bare feet meeting the flooring of Spencer's apartment, and then she journeyed further in.

"Ah, how disappointing," she murmured, before turning to look at the other, "No hitman in the living room,"

"Hitmen in the living room?" Spins feigned shock as he allowed Dom to get a look at the apartment. Now that she'd arrived, any residual sense that this might not be such a good idea quickly faded. Hell, it'd rock, or she'd kill him. That was how it was supposed to be. Anyway, he wanted to see her off her stride, if only a little. Perhaps the kitchen would be somewhere that she wouldn't be so fully in control.

"C'mon. As long as you're going to kill me personally, I'll promise to do the same." He was grinning that wild, fang bearing grin. "You might want to kill me tonight. We'll see."

He made a broad gesture encompassing the apartment, but ending pointedly at the kitchen. "Tonight, you and I are cooking. Nothing difficult. Lasagna and chocolate fondue."

He rolled his shoulders, a relaxed motion, heading not immediately toward the kitchen, but instead to his sound system, resting his hand lightly on the top of the stereo. His fingers, being his, immediately began to drum against the plastic, beating out a quick little rhythm against the plastic.

"What do mob bosses like to listen to?" He watched her from there, waiting to see her reaction to his plans for the evening.

"You never know, I've seen hitmen try to hide in stranger places," she grinned roguishly, "Hell, I've hidden in stranger places waiting to pop someone,"

Ahh, those had been the days, hadn't they?

Wait.

Those days weren't over yet. Never mind.

"Alright, that's a promise," she said with a bright grin, and a soft chuckle, before turning slightly as he gestured towards the kitchen. ...What had he just said? They were cooking? He wanted her to cook?!

...This could only end badly.

She didn't let her inhibitions show on her face though, even as she stared towards the kitchen with an unreadable look, before it flickered back into a smirk.

"I burn water. Don't say I didn't warn you," she murmured smoothly, folding her arms over her chest. Her gaze followed him as he moved towards a stereo system, and she rose an eyebrow at the question.

"Plenty. I'm particularly fond of Peggy Lee and-" she paused, before blinking a bit and frowning, trying to recall what it was she'd last listened to, before flustering, as she realized she couldn't recall any specific names. Sometimes it was whatever was on the radio, other times, she actually assembled music on her iPod- when was the last time she'd done that, again?

"Anything with a good beat that doesn't sound like nails scraping a chalk board," she hoped that was an adequate recovery, and as soon as she could recall a name or a band other than Peggy Lee, she would be sure to let Spins know.

'Whatever' it was then. Spins had already pawed through Jaden's music collection, and found a variety that was unlikely to be offensive to normal human ears. For today he'd leave 'Nails on Chalkboard: An Opus' out of the CD player. That was more fun to listen to when Jaden was home, anyway.

Straightening, he turned back toward Dom and the kitchen, a smile playing at the edges of his lips. He seemed calm, for him. Perhaps it was the cozy home environment. Most likely, it was the fact that he'd found some time to get to the gym earlier, and work out at least a little of his usual energy. And it helped that the moon was new in the sky, burying some of his most feral instincts deep.

"Good thing the noodles are already boiled, then," he replied. He set his hand lightly in the small of her back, and pushed her gently toward the kitchen. Mostly, an excuse to touch her.

"Here." Reaching onto the counter, he grabbed the knife block and slid it over to them. "Chopping things up should be your style, yeah?"

A low, rough chuckle. "Pretend the vegetables owe you money."

She watched him from her place in the living room as he shuffled through various CD's, her eyes catching the occasional word, or name, but not really paying any particular attention. No, she was more interested in watching him. She noted that he didn't seem quite so... fidgety today. Energetic, perhaps was a better word. Not that it was a bad thing that he was energetic...

She was all off and pondering this, when Spencer moved towards her, and spoke once more. She smiled easily as his hand dropped to rest at her back, guiding her towards the oh so dreaded kitchen.

"I suppose it is," she agreed with a wry smile, before eying the knives he slid towards her. She snorted at his joke, before turning to regard him with a mock hurt look.

"Spencer, what kind of mob boss do you take me for...? I don't chop people up..." she slid one of the knives from the block, pulling a soon-to-be-unhappy vegetable towards her, and sliding the tip of the knife over it, before biting the blade into it slowly, "I eviscerate and make them scream until they give me my money. Things that are dead don't exactly pay me very well after all,"

Even despite her words, she figured chopping was something she could do. After all, she'd had plenty of practice with knives. And fingers! She'd chopped those off before, come to think of it- but veggies weren't fingers, and she certainly wasn't about to chop her own fingers off... But anyway.

"Still, I think you're right, chopping might be something I can handle," the mock hurt disappeared in favor of a grin, and she set to do the work that he'd selected for her.

Spencer did not simply stand after introducing Dom to the veggies, he darted around the kitchen grabbing pots and spices, preparing to make the sauce for their intended meal. Which didn't mean he wasn't listening.

That wild, ridiculous grin started to sneak onto his lips as Dom pretended hurt, and he stopped sorting though spices to turn and listen to her.

Oh, so she was playing at being wounded, was she? Well, Spins loved to play. Probably more than anyone should enjoy it.

Even as she finished speaking and returned to the task at hand, Spins let his expression fall into one of shock and fear.

And then he fell to his knees. "Mistress Dominque, how could have I been so foolish! To even imply that you might take such a haphazard and messy approach to your work. I am sorry, contrite, apologetic even."

He peered up at her than, brown eyes looking through irridecent red lashes. "Forgive me. I will do whatever it takes to earn your favor again!"

She paused in her motions to mutilate- ah, chop the veggies; there wasn't much of a difference between the two, right? and began to watch him as he ceased his bouncing around the kitchen. With all his moving and darting around she was reminded of pinball, and this thought amused her to some extent. But then he'd stopped, and wheeled around to drop to his knees before her.

She rose an eyebrow at him, and amused and somewhat playful smirk gracing her lips as she turned, leaning back against the counter behind her as she gazed down at him, playing idly with the knife in her hand.

"Whatever it takes? Really?" she asked, her voice taking on a drawling bored tone she used for work, her eyes flickering away from meeting his own as she pondered the possibilities, "Mr. Jacksinson I am not an easy woman to be won over, and I surely don't sway to apologies for such impudence! Honestly the audacity!" A mocking huff escaped her, and she turned her chin up just slightly, before glancing down at him once more, and grinning despite herself as she rolled the knife over in her hand once more, "Although, I think in this instance, there might be something we can arrange... an ear, perhaps?" she brushed the tip of the knife along the side his face- not really applying any pressure... but the threat was there, before drawing it up and resting the blade at the top of his ear, where it joined the side of his head.

Apparently Dom could play, too, and wasn't afraid of pushing the boundaries of what defined 'play'.

Maybe he should have flinched. There was a knife kissing the top of his ear, and if Dom was playing, the look in her eyes said that she was perfectly ready to play rough.

What he certainly shouldn't have been doing was grinning ear to ear like an idiot, almost seeming to purr into the knife as he did so. "You can have it, if you want it," He said. "I've got two."

A shrug then, though he carefully kept his head motionless. "Are you still going to want to be seen with me, though? Horned, sparkly and earless?"

"Not sure how bloodloss is going to effect my cooking, either." He was still smiling. "But who knows, could make it better. Just use a different knife for the zucchini. There'll be enough meat in the lasagna already."

Maybe a person was supposed to be put off by the things he said; disturbed by the streak of masochism that Spencer was displaying to her... But she was Dominique Whisper! And having him actually offering her his ear? Well, it was better than a bouquet of flowers, that was for sure. She almost felt... giddy; although she blamed this on him, as his moods could be a little infectious.

"I could always heat the knife..." she eyed his stove, smiling at the convenience that his gas stove offered her, "Cauterize as I cut. Less bleeding that way, but it also hurts more- or so I've been told... Still, you do have a point,"

She frowned a little, and seemed to deeply consider whether or not she'd like to be seen with him without both ears.

"The symmetry is more pleasing to the eye," she murmured, her other hand taking his chin, and turning his head from side to side, so as to get a better look at him, "Mm... I suppose you're right," she sighed theatrically, and looked off to the side, "I suppose I'll have to think of something else,"

She started to slide the knife away from the side of his head- but not without the slightest flick of her wrist, the blade taking away some of his skin at the joint of his ear. Enough to bleed, but at least it wasn't the whole ear?

"Oops," she commented, though didn't sound entirely genuine, "Clumsy me," she smiled easily still, her free hand now releasing his chin while still, she watched him. She folded one arm across her stomach, while the other with the knife in hand bent at the elbow, the knife now resting close to her own ear.

"Mmm..." Spins reached up to touch his now bleeding ear. Blood. His blood. A mongrel's blood, and it'd never caused him anything but trouble. Ahh well. What other way was there to live, but walking hand in hand with death? He smiled at his hand and licked the red fluid off his fingertips, no longer mindful of that which still dripped down his ear.

"Kiss me better?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. It was clear enough, from the smirk at his lips, that it wasn't his ear he wanted kissed. "Or worse, if you want."

If he was aware that she was still armed, it didn't seem of particular concern to him. He stood then, rising into the space that was clearly labeled 'mob boss's personal bubble, do not cross this line'.

"Kiss me and you can have both my ears. Keep the symmetry."
