Huffs of powdery breaths floated up and away from the pale mare, corpse-colored coat blending her rather snugly into the soft covering of snow. Although she'd managed to find suitable shelter beneath a group of sturdy pines the night before, the cold had long since trickled into her bones and blood. More than enough of a reason to keep moving though, she'd finally opted grudgingly that morning when the sun had set the world around her into a white flare that promised to blind her at first change.

Which it did, and rather often, whenever there wasn't a bare outcropping of rock for her to focus on, or random bits of green to unsettle the constant brightness.

Another scowl, and Beatrice paused, squinting her eyes as she followed the winding path further up the side of the mountain, up and up until it vanished onto the other side. Was this ever going to end? Or rather, begin? She was beginning to think the path was suited only for those with wings. A horrible thought, really, if this was apparently the safest route of crossing the mountains, minus the large pass between the two ranges further to the east. The pass was, however, currently blocked by snow and ice. How, she wasn't really sure. Last night's light fluff couldn't have caused such a troublesome sight, but regardless...

Flexing her legs a bit to shake a bit of the chill as she remained still, her plans wandered through her mind, deciding a judgment call was in order. Did she still want to get to the desert? Yes, though the rush was slowly diminishing. Did she have to get across this mountain to get to the desert? Until the path defrosted, yes. But right this moment..?

Pink eyes danced around in bitter mirth. No, an immediate departure wasn't needed. A sound from within rang out and she sighed. Food, on the other hoof... warmth... Yet another sigh, and her gaze settled on the dark forest from which she'd just emerged. Apparently, her wanderings would continue still. At least until she found a temporary distraction, anyways.

Crisanto fluttered lazily down to the clearing between the mountains and forest. He hadn't ever been out this far, or at least he hadn't thought so. Then again he couldn't really think of a starting point. He never stayed in one place for long. And who could blame him? There was always some adventure going on somewhere, and he didn't want to miss them.

Landing lightly on the frosty ground, He looked around to take in his surroundings. All around him was snow. He had been planning on going through the forest, but with the ground as wet as it was, he wasn't sure that was the best idea. Instead he looked around the meadow for something to eat.

Color caught her eye, tensing as she turned slightly. Her held breath came in a rush however, rolling her eyes at her own jumpy nature. It wasn't a threat, it was just a -

Hold the thought, what exactly is he?

Butterfly wings made her think vaguely back to old stories she used to hear. Flutter? Was that what they were called? Harmless though, if she remembered correctly. Still though -curiosity now taking over- what was one such as he doing so far north?

"You don't look like a native to these parts," she called lazily, brow raised in question as she watched unmoving. "Your coloring is too bright." Like sunlight, really. She had to squint to see him, so bright against the snow.

Startled by the interruption to his thought, Cris turned around to find a mare standing nearby. "Oh, hello miss," he said, smiling at her. "I'm Crisanto. I was just coming down for a bite to eat. What's your name?" The mare's coat blended nicely into the surroundings, white just like the snow. Her pinks and yellows would give her away to anyone looking though. She Also had something attached to her front legs... what were those things?
