Who knows Matthew Shepard? He died 12 October, 1998, at the age of 21. Brutally murdered, dragged into a field, tied to a fence, hit hundreds of times with a foot long gun, then left to die in the middle of nowhere.

The reason, lovely people of GBC? Gay Bi Curious Guild? Well, sweethearts, the reason was because he was homosexual.

He was a lovely person. A year or 2 before he was murdered, he got raped for the same reason. So sad. Then he had plans to travel around the world and help everyone who'd gone through horrible things in their lives too. Just help people. That were his dreams. Such a lovely people, struggling for a place in the world as the person he was. He couldn't talk to his parents, they acted like it didn't exist. Like, if they didn't talk about it, it'd go away.

This is something I made for him... In memory of him. And trust me, I'm not the first one. Just.. Just see how lovely he is. You can see it in his eyes. (Even though it's a tiny picture)

Movies to watch:

The Laramie Project
Anatomy of a Hate Crime.

The week of his death, my group on campus (gay group) had a candle light vigil for him. Half the student body showed up. It was awesome. There were lots of tears, lots of speeches and lots of hugging going on. We even had someone sing the Ave Maria in latin. It was so beautiful

If you get a chance, watch the movies above. They deal with this case directly.

Goddess watch over his soul.

Blessed Be

a shame how some one can be so against something different and be so ignorant that they would ever think of doing something like that.

at least he's found peace now

His mother does a lot of touring. She gives a lot of speeches and is invited to a lot of events. It seems like she's found her peace and has taken the tragedy and turned it around. She's making the most of his legacy. I'm sure he'd be damn pround of the work that she's done in his name. She's a brave woman.

I was in a production of "The Laramie Project" that my school Drama Class put on... we did so well that the community had us take it to the local profesional theater. Before we went on stage, we did a little memorial for Matt - we were so upset, that we barely pulled ourselve together enough to preform...

I dunno, but I feel that Matt was there with us... He was watching us retell his story... And out of out greif, we found the strength to make him proud, and show our little cowboy town his story.

If you ever get a chance to see "The Laramie Project" prefomed on stage, do so. Matt's story is probably one of the most important stories that the LGBT community has heard little about... But it affects each and every one of us every day...

...Sorry, Tangent... Rest in Peace, Matt.

And Thank You, Sanne, for making this thread... it is so important that you went and did this, that you can barely begin to imagine the effect it could have. Thank You...
