Donna's Velvet Diary. Only she should be posting in here.

July 13th- Ahhhh, this little boy will most certainly be a force to reckon with as the days go on. Strong, enthusiastic, charming, and quite the fashion sense! ^.~

Nov 15th- With all that love and care Carl has sprang to life as a strong individual. Just make sure you keep him from nibbling the other velvets (errr.. against their will). XD

Sept 29th- Intimidating, ferocious, and more then capable of taking care of yourself. But deep inside you long for freedom.. to get away from it all. Perhaps this noble little eagle will be able to help you, even if it's only figuratively.

General Information:

User ImageKingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Subphylum: Vertebrata
Class: Aves
Order: Falconiformes
Family: Accipitridae
Genus: Harpia
Species: Harpia harpyja

The great harpy is the most physically powerful eagle in all the world. Golden-eyed and heavy-beaked, the harpy is a predator at the top of its food web. Its pale gray, crested head, slate black body, banded wings, and pale breast give it a fierce and majestic appearance.

Harpy eagles are reclusive. They shun contact with human beings and are difficult to study. But indigenous peoples, scientists, and other interested observers have learned some things about them.

Small numbers of great harpies live in virgin rainforests from southern Mexico to the Amazon River Basin of northern Peru and Brazil. They nest in the forest's emergent layer, in the tallest, most inaccessible treetops, sometimes as high as 150 feet from the ground.

For rainforest Indians, harpy eagles symbolize power. Shamans collect eagle feathers to perform ritual magic.

The average weight of a harpy eagle is 18.4 lbs (8.2 kg). Female harpy eagles are larger than the males. A female can weigh from 14 to 18 lbs (7-9 kg), while the males weigh 10 to 16 lbs (5-8 kg). Their body length is between 36 and 40 inches (1 meter).

The harpy eagle is one of the world's largest and most powerful of the fifty species of eagles. It lives in the tropical lowland rainforests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico southward to eastern Bolivia, southern Brazil and the northernmost parts of Argentina. It likes large areas of uninterrupted forest but will also hunt in the open areas next to patches of forest.

The Eagle's Prey:

An alarm screech goes out through the rainforest. Monkeys of all types throw themselves off high branches and out of trees to freeze in terror. Overhead a giant eagle with a seven foot wing span easily twists and turns through the treetops, hunting for any animal caught out in the open. With a single dive it tears the unlucky creature from its branch with five inch long claws on powerful legs.

Harpy eagles prey on both tree-dwelling and ground mammals, including howler and spider monkeys, sloths, kinkajoos, porcupines, agouti, and anteaters. They also sometimes eat iguanas (large lizards), snakes, and macaws (large, long-tailed parrots). Their sharp vision allows them to spot animals deeply hidden in the leafy canopy or a hundred feet below on the forest floor. They sneak up on prey, snatching them without warning.

How Can Such Big Birds Sneak Up On Prey?:

Harpy eagles are heavily muscled birds, about three to three and a half feet from head to tail, with wingspans of six to seven feet. Proportionately short wings and large muscles enable them to fly swiftly and silently between trees and branches--with no more sound than a butterfly. In the open air above the forest, they fly as fast as fifty miles per hour.

How Do They Kill Their Prey?:

Harpies have strong legs almost as thick as a human wrist and feet bigger than bear paws, tipped with huge, curved talons. These are ideal for pulling monkeys and other large animals from trees. The harpy's heavy, hooked beak is an efficient tool for piercing and cutting. Even powerful, young monkeys may have a hard time defending themselves against harpies once they are caught.

What do they eat in Captivity?:

While rarely kept in captivity, other then for controlled breeding purposes, the main diet of a Harpy Eagle consists of ground beef (slightly bloody), and small rodents or rabbits.

Mournful Cries of the Endangered:

An adult bird at the nest has been heard to emit a loud, wailing 'wheeeeoooooo'. Apart from this, a few soft croaking an mewing sounds and some pretty persuasive hunger screams from an immature, this seems to be a typically silent raptor.

Yet even this silence can be missed.

Harpy eagles are seriously threatened by habitat fragmentation. Because they need a large territorial range, even a few birds require many thousands of acres of unbroken rainforest. Where rainforest has been clearcut in swathes, leaving behind unconnected tracts, harpies have mostly disappeared.

Harpies are a traditional source of food and feathers for many rainforest peoples. Now, due to slow reproduction rates, shrinking habitat, and the depletion of animals they feed on, harpy populations are not keeping up with human needs. For this reason, hunting harpies has been banned or restricted in many Central and South American countries.

The harpy eagle is the national bird of Panama, but its population there has been in steady decline since the Panama Canal was opened in 1914. In 1989, the Peregrine Fund in partnership with the San Diego Zoo began a reintroduction program in Panama, which has been somewhat successful.

Donna: My mom. Donna has taken care of me since I was a plush, and has taught me alot about the human world and growing up in it. She's the reason I get fed and the reason I could even write this now, so even though she isn't perfect - I'm proud to call her my mom.

LP: A woman about in her early twenties with a sword collection that numbers (maybe) more than my feathers! She lives in a cave near the center of the woods, where she's made a life for herself and a temple for Willow. She doesn't really act like a mom, but he took good care of me when I was over there, so I'm comfortable enough to consider her an adult friend.

D-chan: Not sure about this one. I haven't really spent alot of time with her or her Velvet. I do remember Minnie though!

DDB: Keeper of the Sidney! This woman has taste and lots of it. I might even learn a thing or two about fashion from her - and that's saying something! Seeing as I already AM the authority on good looks around here.

Yume: I think this is a good woman. If I remember right, she's the mother of Trea, who is my very best friend! I don't know her well personally - but if Moose is happy with her than she's ok in my book.

Meep: I don't know this person very well. I vaguely remember seeing her a long time ago but otherwise...

Willow: Well...after a week with Willow, my patience has run thin, my entire body aches, I lost all my feathers, and I wound up getting smacked upside the head more times than I care to count. This woman is infuriating sometimes and gets on my nerves when she treats me the way she does, and I just have to say........I learned alot from her. Sure, I'm not the bestest best friends with Willow, but she really taught me alot about what it really means to be a king, and what is expected of me if I ever want the others to look up to me as I hope they one day do. It wasn't an easy thing, but even when she was smacking me around and calling me 'Fluff butt' or something, I still felt like, secretly, she was looking out for me. Don't tell her I told you this - but if I had to sum up how I feel about Willow, I would have to say that I feel like Willow is my big sister.

Sidney: Whoobboy...Sidney, Sidney, Sidney. This is one stubborn snake! I've tried getting along with him, wound up getting in two fights with him, and now that we're on mutual blackmail grounds - I don't know how to feel. I hate him, I like him, I despise him, but I think he's kinda cool himself...He hates me, but does he even know me? It's so freaking complicated. But I have something that'll shut him up for good. Something Willow would be proud of. You'll see in time, and until than, I'm just going to sit back and watch the fireworks.

Minnie: Minnie is a bear who hangs out with a flying fox. I played with her a long long time ago as well as with Toby.

Trea aka 'Moose': Trea...what can I say. There's something about her that makes my feathers fluff up, and my heart beat faster whenever she's around. We've been best friends for as long as I can even remember, and now she's become my queen (I think) in our own little hideaway. It just suits her with her quiet elegance and cheerful nature...and even though we're different, I know that one day that we'll feel the same.

Toby: What can I say? My mom thinks he's a gentleman and all the other adults dote on him. I don't see why, other than him bending over alot. Maybe I'd get more attention if I bent over more? Maybe...Do adults like seeing our tails and such? If they do - they're wierd. Anyways! Toby is nice, even if he did get to play the hero first. It's my turn next time we play, but for now he's the Valiant Knight! He even carries his own sword, although it's only wood. Maybe one day I'll get a sword like that - only real and better! Eh...but than again...two Velvets with swords would just be too much competition to bear...I'll find another way to match him, but for now I'm content to be friends.

Dear Diary,

Things in life are ever shifting.
One moment you find yourself settled down, only the next to be moving on again towards a new chapter in life. Why say this? Because, now I find myself surrounded by strangers, to which recently came to exist, and with but my only two companions. That's right, we've decided to move from the Tundra; Maxine, Celtic, and I. Giving up the bitter cold quarters, for a small house outside of Barton.
Maxine wasn't thrilled.
It took some persuasion to convince her of the 'pirate beneficiary' of leaving her Northern post, and I had to make complete reasurance we'd be near water. Strange, isn't it? Cats usually don't like the wet stuff, but Maxine; my Persekitty, has been thrilled with the rolling tides since she was a Cattery. So naturally a seaworthy position was assumed, and I've taken her as my "first mate" as soon as the stream is crescend.
Thankfully, Celtic seems to enjoy the change of pace. Ever since I kissed his father goodbye, and raised his chubby hand in a parting wave, those innocent blue orbs have yet to stay still, as did he for some time. For now, he is indesposed. Taking a nap in my lap, as I recall this strange introduction to my life to come.
Or rather, what may come.
The future is eve shifting, and uncertain of it's course, but for now all I can bring myself to be still for is to write, and even now that concludes.

Once I am settled, I will write again.
Until then, this is Donna,
Signing off
.

Visit to the Shop

Donna the Vixen

It was a humid afternoon, as many before it, and a very still one at that. All life seemed to have vannished from the streets of Gaia, in perhaps retreat from such an ominous suffering of the heat. This seeming sensible, for who so ever might venture but a few feet outdoors, may have well have been toasted alive! For indeed it could be claimed to be the worst day of the season.

However, two had come to challenge the unmerciful wave of steam, and could be seen making slow progress towards a tiny shop nestled within the confines of the market. All others abandonned, save for this, and to this place they sought retreat.

One of the pair was a small creature of unusual sort. Appearing to be nothing more than a cat, to the unwary passerby, but held more so as yet another bead of sweat traced her thin whiskers. An antenea fixated upon the end of which, to roll the liquid and drop it from such precarious perch to sizzle upon the side walk. Her golden orbs cast down, while a small pink tounge lolled forth in the searing summer day. This unusual thing being none other than a Cattery, whose tune had fallen silent through the shimmering afternoon.

At her side was one well known to the shop. None other than Donna. Her adornment having changed greatly, with the addition of wings and the shed attire of usual black. Now clad in shorts and a tanktop, as though to ward off the day with such lacking attire. Her blood tinted hues chancing a glimpse at her companion as she raised a hand to whipe away the accumulated drops upon her brow. Apologetic smile playing upon her lips as they finally came to the entrance of the shop and flung themselves into the air conditioned confines. Finding a place upon a couch soon enough.

Donna the Vixen
The soft breeze of Iris's air conditioner soon cleansed the pair of unsightly degrade, and they became of normal appearance once more. Maxine, the Mp3 Cat, paying much more to detail then her owner could account for, as she only swept her fingers through her hair before all was passible. While to the adjacent side, Maxine groomed and clawed until her ragged features were smooth yet again. Not really much changed, as she was partial to that of a pirate's view and dressed accordingly. Appearing every inch so as her features turned to Donnas features and gave a displeased frown.

"Let's go out ye said. It's not that hot ye said. Yeah right! If you weren` my Capain` I'd have gutted you by now."

Donna could only allow a rouge smile to play upon her lips for a moment before looking at Maxine. Knowing that she had earned some right to carry on, as it had been quite a far walk and she was not accustomed to trotting. But a trouper none the less, and would soon be well in manner once she was rewarded for effort. Perhaps a little praise to make things smoothed over until they got home.

"Aye. I know you would have. But you're a good first mate, and I'll soon give your share of the bounty once we retire back to the house. Sound fair?"

A disgruntled, yet noticabley subdued, noise of inaudible agreement passed the Cats lips before she stretched and jumped from the cushions. Stretching the length of her before sitting upon the floor and casting her gaze about the place.

"So, why are we here anyways? There's nothing around but a bunch of dumb dolls..."

"Velveteens."

Donna corrected, and yet another muttered response came as the Cat trotted off in hopes of finding that of interest...or at least the safe. Sure there had to be something of great value, for her owner to venture so far..

D-chan Spiro
Hoshi once again in tow, D-chan stops before the Velveteen Toychest. A soft smile tugs at her lips as she peers in through the windows. "Hey, Hoshi, remember this place?" she chuckles.

The sparieh sits down, long black tail flicking to and fro as she cocks her head. She does, actually...though it's a vague recollection at best. All those little animals that didn't say anything when she talked to them. Little weasels. "Let's take a look inside!" the half-fox declares brightly, tugging the door open and stepping back to allow her sparieh first entry.

Apprehensive, the now larger avian creeps into the shop, bright blue eyes darting about. As she slinks into the common room, she once more spies the plush toys lining the walls.

And here she sits again, her ears flicking forward in confusion. Hadn't they seemed a bit more...lifelike before? Lost in her own thoughts, she completely ignores Donna and Maxine...and even D-chan as the half-fox trots in after her quadrapedal feathered friend.

D-chan, of course, does not get so fixated on the toys. Upon entering the main room, her green-gold eyes catch sight of a familiar face. "Ah!! Donna!" she chirps, moving forward. "Remember me?" she asks jokingly. She blinks a bit as she catches sight of the MP3 cat trotting off. "And who was that?" she asks.

Hoshi, too, notices the feline and tears her eyes away from the shelves of stuffed animals. Well...a walking talking cat. Could THAT be one of the velveteens D-chan was getting so worked up about? Curious, the sparieh gathers her massive talons beneath her and carefully follows Maxine.

Donna the Vixen
Bringing her features up, a smile could not be suppressed to flit across her blushing lips. It having seemed an age since her lithe oculars came to trace the features of one so familiar, and it was indeed a welcome sight after such a trek.

"D! It's been awhile..and of course I remember ya."

She then paused and gave slight gesture towards the retreating Cat.

"That would be Maxine. My MP3 Cat."

As she turned to look upon Maxi though, the Cat had already gone upon its own accord through the vast shelves. Launching her silver paws from the floor below only for a soft thud to eminate as they met the wood of that she'd inspected. Her golden hues taking in all she came upon, save for one odd creature that, unknowing to her, followed.

Nothing else really seemed amiss and, in spite of her tactiturn mood, her stride faltered to perhaps gain better knowledge of the strange dolls that now surrounded her sleek form. Her tail being only that to sway placidly as she became like that of statue and only allowed her livid oculars to peer into the ebony orbs of a doll.

D-chan Spiro

D-chan grins as she sits down on the arm of the couch. "It's great to see you again!" she chirps, looking around at the shelves of toys once again. "How have you been lately? I've been running around like crazy at the fenthry shop trying to get things up and running again after such a long time...and home's not much better," she snickers. She watches as Hoshi follows Maxine out of sight to some uncharted corner of the shop. "An MP3 cat?" she repeats. "Never heard of one of those before."

Hoshi carefully follows Maxine across the room, slowly placing her talons on the ground to avoid excessive clattering and clicking that would give her away. She's not STALKING the cat, of course...but she is curious, and she doesn't want to disturb the strangely metallic feline. As the MP3 cat stops, though, Hoshi falters, one claw held over the ground. This she gently places back on the floor before sneaking ever closer, her eyes following the supposed track of Maxine's to the shelves of toys. Sherbert had chirped something about a winged rat that D-chan had been rather fond of...could that be what the cat is looking for?

Donna the Vixen
Her gaze to came up to trace the shelves, once more, as in fascination of the dormant creatures strewn upon them. Each fallen into a state of 'hibernation' that seemingly took all life from what was assumed to be creatures of much more calliber. But soon enough she answered D's query, and unwillingly dropped her gaze back to the girls features with but a phantom remnent playing upon her visage.

"I've been doing fine...My son is spending time with his father, and we're in the process of purchasing a house near Barton, although my husband is sad to see us leave the Tundra for a bit."

Her gaze then fell upon the feintest movement among the shelves, knowing all too well of her Cat's exploits. A one of a kind creature in all mannerisms, and well...convinved of her heritage that had become one of questionable reason.

"Mp3 Cat's are a one of a kind thing, for sure...Starting out as tiny little Catteries and just springing up when you least expect. Maxine was quite the handfull as a little one but she's mellowed out now...Well...As mellow as a pirate gets."

Again, a soft chuckle eminated from within her lithe form. Carrying through the shelves to the ears of the one who'd been spoken of.

Maxine cared little for her owners amusement, at the time, and continued her exploration of the shop. Abbandoning her statued mimicry, and launching herself onto the next shelf. Following each higher and higher until she rest upon the very top of the furniture, where her livid oculars dared not to look down, but only caused her to gain better access to the wide array of the shops layout. Still unawares of that which could now only hope to follow such wreckless treck.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan blinks a bit. "You're married?" she asks curiously. "And you have a son, as well? Congratulations!" She chuckles a bit, seeming somewhere between nervous and embarrassed as she runs a black-furred hand through red-brown hair. "Another friend of mine was planning on getting married...but I don't think she's expecting. Yet," she adds, staring up at the ceiling, a distinct scarlet flame creeping through from under her fur.

As she regains her composure and allows her eyes to slip down along the shelves, her green-gold gaze comes to rest on a familiar plush. "Ah, Batty!!" she squeaks, bouncing past Donna and taking up a familiar 'winged rat.' "Hoooooshiiiiiii~!" she calls, waving to the sparieh with one hand and displaying the bat in the other. "Look what I found!"

Hoshi watches as Maxine scales shelf after shelf until she reaches the uppermost row. The sparieh cocks her head, curious, and spreads her wings to take off in flight and see just what has captured the MP3 cat's attention--

...only to be rudely interrupted by the fox-girl's call. The sparieh sighs and folds her wings again, trotting despondently back to her guardian and staring obediently at the bat that is held before her.

She cocks an eyebrow.

Sherbert was right. It is a winged rat.

Donna the Vixen
Batty...what an odd name for the likes of such a strange little mouse. This creature being all too perfect an opportunity for a long awaited lunch, for the MP3 Cat that loomed above it's captor. Her translucent orbs of golden hue now fixating upon the helpless creature, as each sinewy muscle tensed and coiled itself in position. The predator waiting but a moment before lunging forth towards the Rat. A sinister grin playing upon her whickered visage as she drew near.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan's ears flick rapidly as Maxine leaps off the shelf, hurtling through the air toward the bat plush in her hands. She takes a moment to look up, startled, at the mechanized feline flying fast toward her...

...and then she squeaks and bounces out of the way, almost running into a shelf full of plush toys but stopping just in the nick of time. She hugs the toy to her chest gently, green-gold eyes still wide with shock. "Wow, that was surprising," she chuckles apprehensively. "You really shouldn't go attacking the plush toys, though, I might get in trouble and that would be the end of me!"

Hoshi watches as her guardian jumps back, out of Maxine's path. And then her eyes flicker up to the cat plunging toward the floor. Sure, cat's always land on their feet...but it doesn't seem like it would be a very nice landing. The large bird, much larger since Donna's first encounter, skitters lightly forward and positions herself at Maxine's landing site, lying down and fluffing her feathers like a massive black air bag. What else are sparieh for?

Donna the Vixen
A dull thud resignated through the shop as metalic claws sunk into the floor below, ruipping through the wooden surface to wheel about and face her lost quarry. Minor contempt shimmering within the golden orbs, only then to ripple into a minor show of admiration for escaping her. The Cat now only sinking onto her back haunchess and peering into the womans features with returned curious apprehension.

"If I ought not chase such rodents, you ought not hold them you know. They're liable to sink their fangs into your tender flesh you know...rather unpleasent thing if I be sayin` so meself."

The soft fall of paws then came to eminate from behind the Cat, and her owner could be seen to give a look of warning to the creature before turning to D.

"I apologize for that. Maxine won't be hunting your friend again" sweatdrop

D-chan Spiro
D-chan blinks a bit at the talking MP3 cat...before she laughs, hugging the bat close. "I'm afraid there's been a horrible misunderstanding!" she chuckles, kneeling down before Maxine. "The bat's not really alive...that, and it's not really a rodent. It just looks like one, complete with wings." As though to prove her point, she sets the toy on the ground and spreads its wings from the tips. "See? It's a bat! And, unfortunately, it's not alive. Someday I'll find a bat in my attic and I will be thrilled," she muses.

The fox-girl just smiles and waves away Donna's apology. "No harm done," she replies calmly, standing again and dropping the bat toy between her ears. "Besides, it keeps me on my toes. I need to be more alert."

Hoshi watches the MP3 cat, listens to her words. Her head cocks to one side at the thought of the bat toy biting the fox-girl. That...that would actually be rather funny, she admits, smiling as only a sparieh can. Sliding forward, she sits down beside the cat and clears her throat a bit before chirping an introduction.

...well, it would be an introduction, if anyone in the room besides D-chan could understand sparieh.

Donna the Vixen
What a pity...As the woman said, the bat was not real at all and of little concern to her taste. No one would like a stuffed toy for lunch, after all, and it was of little differance as she admitted her fault with a bit of pity for the un-living creature.

"Aye...It isn't real after all..but I-"

Just as she went to continue, a soft cry resignated near her. Causing the unaware Cat to jump for a moment, before turning upon that which had startled her. Sitting within the region she'd been, a moment before, was a creature of the like she'd never seen. Appearing to be a bird of some sort, but not quite a bird all at once. Her features alight with fascination as she could only peer slightly upwards into the features and watched in apt curiousity of whether or not it was alright to either eat or even touch...as it very well may be poisoned after all.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan chuckles at Hoshi as she watches the bird cast sidelong glances at Maxine. She knows that look... "I wouldn't try anything if I were you," she snickers. "You don't know what'll happen if you try and nibble on an MP3 cat." Turning to Donna, she offers a mischievous smile. "Hoshi has a bad habit of sampling everything as though it were something to eat. She nibbles on things...flowers, furniture, fenthries...everything from plants to people. And I think she's wondering how Maxine tastes."

Hoshi looks down at Maxine curiously, her bright blue eyes seeming rather...hungry, in all honesty. It looks natural on the nightmare sparieh, but it's unsettling nonetheless. The quadrapedal avian lays down and places her head between her front talons, as though to stave off the urge to take a taste of the cat. D-chan is right...this is something entirely different than what she's tried before. She's tasted people, half-breeds, and all manner of other things...but never an MP3 cat. Who knows what disasters might result...

Still. She wants a nibble. Just one.

Donna the Vixen
Unsettling it was in every manner, and in accordance the Cat rose to her paws and slowly backed away from this creature of dark intent. Her tail having snaked itself about her ankle lest the beast try to 'sample' off the shimmering metallic fur which she so prized, a "treasure" that none other might steal from her. A pride indeed...but stranegly alluring to the Griphon who lay before her. Those lustful eyes chilling her deep within the constantly searing currents that ran through her body. Lunch having now become the luncher.

Maxine was on her own at the time, as Donna only watched the two in mild amusement of the situation. The Cat now having to learn a hard lesson of choosing her battles, for it was odvious to any who might survey that the Sparieh was the better equipped of the two. Sharp Claw, Wrending Beak, and Insatiable hunger making Hoshi a rather togh thing to attack. Maxing learning the hard way as the Kitdracori only nodded to D and continued their conversation without much concern. Making only note to rescue Maxi should things go too far.

"Our pets have some weird eating habits, don't they? Maxine will try to eat anything that even resembles a bird, fish, rodent, or gnome. She's already killed the lawn decorations of the neighboring folks and they were quite peeved, although I was relieved to have those creepy buggers stop staring at me." 3nodding

D-chan Spiro
D-chan grins and takes a seat in a nearby chair to watch the "entertainment" unfold; today's match: sparieh vs. MP3 cat, step right up, folks, get your tickets here, extra extra read all about it, it's the match of a lifetime you won't want to miss.

And who is D-chan to resist the allures of her inner ringleader?

"Thankfully, Hoshi's eating habits aren't THAT odd," she chuckles. "Though I know what you mean, with the garden gnomes. My father used to have them in the back yard and they would stare at me all night as I read my books. With Hoshi, though...she just samples things. She loves to eat plants, though. Her favorites are flowers...namely roses. She loves the taste of rose petals, for some reason. I keep waiting to get the angry phone calls from the lady down the lane with the rose garden!"

Hoshi watches Maxine slip away. Ah, the prey runs...that won't be enough, though. Seeing that D-chan does not seem intent to stop her, the sparieh rises to all four talons, standing chest, head, and shoulders above her 'adversary.' She trots calmly forward and sits down directly in front of Maxine, staring into the cat's eyes...

...before gently reaching out and trying to take an ear in her beak.

Donna the Vixen
For a split second the Sparieh was able to gently touch Maxine's ear, the beak tracing along the tender appendage. Only to be ripped of it's silent intent as instinct welled deep within the Cat, and a throaty hiss of contempt could be heard to eminate from her as she yanked away. Every silken strand of furr now on end, while once more her claws shot out to meet the floor. Arching her still taller as she became slightly resemblant to that of a Halloween decoration. Her golden hues alight with livid ferocity, and fangs bared in inaudible challenge to the Sparieh. Bristling all over, so that the concealed current within could be seen to dance about her with unknowing target. Ready to strike when need be.

She would not become lunch.

D-chan Spiro
Hoshi blinks calmly at the angry cat. Truth be told, she is an idiotically fearless avian...though, her one fear will send her running in mutual terror with the MP3 cat, should it arrive.

Still, she recognizes the fact that the cat is suddenly more dangerous. She watches the current dance over the bristling fur intently, recalling what D-chan always said about electrical sockets, before yawning widely.

And here she lays down, calm as ever, and places her head between her front talons, bright blue eyes forever watching the cat with a sort of hungry anticipation that is not at all pleasant.

D-chan chuckles. "Yeah, that's my Hoshi," she sighs. "As far as I know, she's only afraid of one thing. Soapy water. Or just water in general. It's hilarious when I take her to the Fenthry Preservation Society, since we have a water demon running around doing the cleaning...the two are mortal enemies by now," she snickers.

Donna the Vixen
Normally the Cat wuld have taken advantage of such slip of weakness, water being like air to her as she indeed was convined of one thing. She was a Pirate. But such would be of little use. For away from the creek, which she'd proclaimed her own, there was little of water about her. Leaving Maxine only to continue her bluff as she puffed up even bigger, if at all possible, and gave off a menacing hiss that caused even Donna to recoil in mild concern of her mate. Knowing all too well how badly it might hurt to be stricken by an angry cat with such voltage. Her eyes only continuing fixation with the unrelenting gaze of the sparieh. A battle of more than just some petty nibble.

D-chan Spiro
D-chan watches the scene, more wary now. Birds + Voltage = Bad News, as far as she's concerned. Even so, it seems that Hoshi has things under control...

...or, so she hopes.

Hoshi continues to watch the MP3 cat with a distinct lack of concern. Her beak clicks a bit as she considers the brief taste of ear she got earlier, before the cat had taken to the defensive. Not bad...tender, certainly, but the flavor itself leaves something to be desired. The sparieh lifts her head and yawns again before replacing her head on now crossed talons and closing her eyes.

It looks like she's about to take a nap.

Donna the Vixen
It was...Nap Time? Napt time indeed, for her opponent had taken to such position as she lacked care for her adversary. This putting Maxine in a very awkward stance, as she began to wind down, for now she only seemed more so a fool for having become quite so taken with the idea of ripping the bird thing apart for trying to eat her. Only having looked at her with that which said "fat chance" to the stance of defensive bluff, that now melted into her usual figure. Sinking back onto her haunchess and muttering an inaudible word or so before comming up again and trotting off. Hoping to either find a Velvet that lived as had been said, or escape the embarrasment.

D-chan Spiro
As Maxine retreats, Hoshi begins to shake with inaudible laughter...laugher which grows and grows until it is audible. The sound of a sparieh cackling--not the mention the fact that this one is a nightmare--is not pleasant. It sends chills down the spine and makes the fur stand on end...and Hoshi laughs, lifting her head and shaking it in mock condescension.

D-chan shudders as her sparieh begins to convulse with rather malicious mirth. "Eesh...she's never creeped me out like that before," the half-fox mutters, removing the bat plush from her head and cuddling it close, as though it can protect her from the maniacal laughter of her feathered friend. "Sorry about the scare, Maxine!" she calls sheepishly.

Donna the Vixen
Maxine gave no reply, and only turned a shelf to dissapear from view. The hairs on her neck now bristling once more as that chilling laughter shot through her like cold lightning. Her fear seeming weakness to her, and she only gave reassurance that it was a one time deal as she sped off into the unknown.

Donna however was unmoved by the laughter, and only shook her head. Resigning to the fact that Maxine had 'lost', but at the least had learned from her exploit of the Sparieh. Only becomming herself once more as she turned to D and smiled.

"So, who is your little friend? I never did get a chance to ask.."

D-chan Spiro
As Hoshi's laughter dies down, D-chan gives a relieved sigh. "Eesh, creepy little thing," she mutters, releasing her hold on the bat and letting it fall limply to her lap. "And...oh, you mean the cackler over there?" she asks, jerking a thumb in Hoshi's general direction. "Her name is Ao Hoshizora. Hoshi for short. She's one of my sparieh's...the middle one, actually. She's about half grown now, and about half the height of my oldest...who, ironically, is a sparieh elder," she snickers. "The youngest is Sherbert...and she's still just a chick. Barely even a foot and a half tall, if even that. Cute as a button, though."

As D-chan carries on her conversation, Hoshi stands and stretches. Claws clicking, she makes her way over to the fox-girl and lays down atop her feet like a massive feathery paw warmer. Her beak clicks a bit as she settles her head between her talons and again tries to sleep, the picture of not-quite-innocent peace.

Donna the Vixen
Observing the Sparieh closer, she nodded and allowed a mischievious smile to play upon her features. Knowing that if she and Maxine were to ever become friends, they might make terrible trouble about the place. Being innocent in some way or other, but at the same time not quite so much as it was apparent that Hoshi was no angel.

But her gaze then turned to the bat plush D still held within her grasp. Curious to see whether or not this doll was one of the famed Velvets that ew had yet to see...

D-chan Spiro
D-chan smiles down at Hoshi, who now appears to have settled down for a real nap. "Well, at least she's not nibbling on my toes this time," she chuckles nervously. "Spariehs are very interesting creatures...Kaen, my oldest, is the largest and gentlest one I've met. I think it's because he grew up around things that were absolutely minute in comparison to himself...fenthries are only a foot tall as adults, and he's more than six feet!"

As she catches Donna's gaze, she smiles. "Nope, just a regular plush," she assures the kitsune, tossing it up into the air and catching it again. "Apparently the real Veleveteens come out of a chest when a special key is used. I actually met one a few days ago! A little tiny tiger that liked to poke little Sherbert. Turns out she fluffs out with every poke!" she laughs. "So cute. Like a little ball of feathers."

Donna the Vixen
Presented with the prospect of a fluffed poke, she could not help but chuckle with odvious amusement. Noting that she might one day poke the poor creature in hopes of it becomming a rather large ball of ruffled feathers. One that Maxine would be sure to take a whack at, if given chance, and all might enjoy. But intrigue was more of strength than amusement, and her laugh subsided as she pondered about the Tiger. Wondering if perhaps he might come back and enlighten her as D might.

"You saw a real one? Was it like a real Tiger?" eek

D-chan Spiro
D-chan nods vigorously. "It was just like a real tiger, only miniaturized. Not like a tiger cub, like a real miniature full-grown tiger. Her name was Willow, and she kept poking Sherbert and eventually nudged her back to me because she thought that something was wrong when she fluffed out!" she snickers.

Not quite asleep, Hoshi listens intently. She recalls hearing something like that from Sherbert herself...sure, it was a little garbled and there were some points where she couldn't make out a word the chick was saying...but the basic point came across well. Sherbert was also afraid that the tiger had a feather allergy, because she kept sneezing after coming too close to the little sparieh...but this she does not mention. It's not important.

Though it is funny, seeing how naive poor little Sherbert is.

Donna the Vixen
A midget Tiger? That was new. But nothing was too suprising if plush's could walk and talk, and Cats could become MP3's. So perhaps it was not quite so unusual after all, and she could only shake her head again in amused fascination with the whole thing.

"Now that, D, is funny. I can't imagine a grown Tiger being afraid of breaking a little sparieh, but to each their own I suppose!"

D-chan Spiro
D-chan chuckles. "It was entertaining, watching Willow nudge Sherbert over to me with her nose, and then sit down, point, and growl as though trying to say that something was wrong before giving Sherbert a nice little poke in the side. And then she inflated!! Like a little airbag! All her feathers just stood up and she turned into a ball of feathers with a beak! Cutest thing I've ever seen, I swear."

Hoshi listens to the conversation without much interest. She'd much rather find the MP3 cat again...it was doubtful that they would make amends so quickly, but she might want to try. She didn't need another taste; the cat has a friendly taste, as far as she's concerned, even though she does have a lot of electricity problems...still, she decides to wait a few minutes before trying to pursue the feline to wherever she has gone.

Donna the Vixen

She too eminated a light chuckle, and imagined such a bizarre sight. A toy tiger suprised at the actions of but such a small creature as that, truly a thought to muse on as she thought to her own future Velvet and pondered what strange quirks it may posess. Only a phantom remnent of a smile giving hint to her internal monolouge as she watched the Sparrieh ponder to herself. What would happen betwixt those two next?

Her answer was not far off in the making, for the soft crimson hues of Maxine's furr could be seen to weave an intricate gate through the plush toys upon the back corridor. Her golden tinted oculars peering out from a shallow veilw of ebony, as though to guard against further sabotauge from that which had attempted to consume her. Now wary upon all accounts as she found herself beside the sagging grey trim that lined a rather large toy, an elephant, whose ivory tusks were but guide posts that bordered either side of her lithe figure. Concealing the hunted for a moment's time.

However, after the danger passed, all became too still for the Cat's liking. Her molten orbs immaculate with arrogant intent as her paws lurched forth and came to rest upon the floor within a single bound. Occulars fixating upon her owner, who then dismissed herself from the company of her friend, and picked the Cat up to withdraw from this place once more

September 22 2005,

Today Iris held the flatsale to determine who would be the new guardians of the, newly forged, keymoulds. I admit, I was nervous. Really nervous. With a right to be so! Alot of people turned out, and we all cast in our workings and watched in anxiousness as Iris reviewed each one.

There were alot of interesting characters there. All of us different, but all having the one aspiration to end up with one of those moulds nomatter what! However, we didn't really have much of a say in it at all. Iris is the owner of the shop after all...so it was only natural she took sweet precious time pouring over each entry again and again.

I think I must have looked and sounded like an anxious child. Sitting there on my hands waiting for her to finally announce the winners, while secretly wishing ill against anyone who might spoil my chances and all the time feeling a guilty adult for doing so. Lord knows what Iris was thinking about me then!

Thankfully though, she might have seen our anxiousness, she announced the winners and handed out moulds to those who'd won.

I hadn't won.

I was jealous actually, although I'm usually not, and I wanted to find something unfair about the whole matter just so I would be given some one's mold in compensation for waiting so long. D-chan was the only one I was really happy for at that moment...we'd talked prior and I find myself thinking of her as my friend now. But everyone else was just as well gone for myself. Good Lord am I a spoiled brat sometimes...I still can't believe I was such a b***h in mind. Manners won out though, which I thank heaven for, and I wished them congrats for thier accomplishment.

There was always next time right?

Yeah...next time...in another five months of waiting.

But just as I turned to leave with a heavy hearted ache, Iris pulled me to her side and handed me a mould! Lord knows I was deeply ashamed for my previous thoughts then...and probably went scarlet when they wished me congrats with more sincerity then I'd probably shown.

I guess this is a lesson that things always aren't what they seem, and thinking bad things never got anyone anywhere. I'll be sure to learn from that...and I hope no one ever finds out what I think in secret sometimes. But I doubt that will happen. I'm getting some spiritual counselling done to help with my inner demons.

But until then I can only say this.

I GOT A KEY!!!
