The small gray cub padded along, her ears folded backwards in what could be assumed as exhaustion. It'd been a nice-while since the earthshake, and consequently, since her parents death. She'd blocked out most of it, of course, still in denial, somewhat, that she'd never see them again. "Taaanz, d'you think we'll ever find anyone out here? " She looked around, realizing she'd once more lost track of her blue sibling.

Ethiopia was a gentle creature, fairly shy, though much more than she'd been before everything had happened. It'd been a good few weeks since her parents were killed in the earthquake, and she'd been left only with her blue brother, Tanzania. They hadn't really eaten in a good while, and had, by most part, survived running between things either killed by others, or by the earthquake.

Now, however, they seemed to have walked in to a valley. And it looked.. deserted. Strangely enough, she saw lots of birds in the sky, in the distance, and was somewhat hesitant to derail from the rock-sides, afraid of being carried off.

"So many eagles.. " She frowned, leaning on a rock. Her gray pelt blended her in pretty well; in fact, she seemed completely void of color, and had a rather blind appearance to her.

Tanzania romped around the lands, always ready to pick a fight with someone. It wasn't just to fight; he had to prove to everyone how strong he was. He was intent on being one of the toughest guys out there! He just...had to grow up first. He was just...practicing! Yes, practicing.

Deep down, he just wanted to protect his sister. She had changed when their parents had died. He was sad, but his stubborn personality stayed the same. And now he knew that he couldn't change. He couldn't let something else happen that might make his sister sad.

"Eh?" he said with a grunt, letting go of the leave he had been chasing around. The wind just always happened to keep it a paw's length away from him, and Ethi had distracted him from the perfect chance to finally get it.

His steel-blue eyes searched the skies as he plopped down next to Ethi. "Think that means there's some food over there?" he asked with a snort. He was hungry. He was always hungry lately.

"Maybe. They might just try and eat us, though. " She tilted her head slightly. The fact that they hadn't had a decent meal would probably edge a bird on, too, since they were skinnier and easier to carry around. The gray cub shuddered slightly at the tough. "Think we should turn back? " She didn't know that, chances were, no bird in this area would be so keen on eating lion cubs.

"Hey! That one's getting closer. " she piped out, crouching closer to the rock. She hadn't been watching this particular bird, more focused on those occasional shadows she saw often at the other side of the territory, but this one was coming from the side. "It.. doesn't look like an eagle, tho'. " Or if it was an eagle, well... they were certainly smaller than she imagined them.

She was flying lower today. no, this wasn't for her bonded, or anything at all. Her altitude was, in fact, to blame by the weather. It wasn't a bad weather-- not yet, anyway. But she saw the skies, how cloudy they were, and she knew there was no sun on her back that didn't have to fight its way past said clouds. It was going to rain, or storm, and she wasn't keen on flying too high when it happened.

But still, she and her lion were patrolling. No objections from her; he was practically healed. It was supposed to be just another boring day of people being gloomy after the earthquakes... was. She tilted her head, eyes focusing on the cubs in the distance. She turned her head, swooping slightly to the side to let out a small shriek-call, then continuing towards the cubs.

No sooner had she flown over the two, did a black male appear, pushing his way through a rather pathetic-looking bush.

Mapatano frowned. What were these two cubs doing out here? He grunted, pacing to the side slightly. By now they'd certainly have noticed him, but still he didn't introduce himself. No one had had cubs lately, besides Hisia, and he certainly didn't remember them from before. If he couldn't remember them, they were new.

And they looked pathetic and skinny right now. "You two. Where are you from? Where are your parents? "

"Psssh, no way. I can fight them all off," he said confidently, hopping around on his toes like he was ready to attack anything. "Anything to get us something to eat. I'm so hungry!"

Talking and whining were normally opposite things, but they were a little too common with Tanz. He wouldn't shut up, but he'd whine when something didn't go his way, either.

His ears perked up as he heard a screech in the sky. His eyes caught sight of a bird in the sky, one that obviously noticed them. His mind actually froze for that moment. What were they to do? He couldn't decide whether to run or hide, but the large lion that emerged before them instinctively put him on the attack.

Gasp! Enemy! Tanz swirled himself in front of his sister, the hair along his spine creeping up towards the sky. He was a pathetic sight, but in his mind he surely looked fearsome!

"Who're you?" he said venomously, not trusting this...gulp, huge male in front of them. He wasn't the brightest lion (figuratively speaking), but he knew better than to say that they were all alone. Ethiopia would probably have something smarter to say, though, so he kept his trap shut.

Ethiopia gasped in surprised, firs the bird flew right over them and then this lion showed up! She crouched behind her brother, peering past his side to get a look at the stranger. She watched Tanzania for a bit, then when he stopped talking, hesitated. He was probably waiting for her to come up with something. Ethiopia wasn't much of a liar, despite her smarts, but they really shouldn't let anyone know they wer ealone, who knows what would happen?

"Our parents are nearby. " She said, somewhat defensively. "If we yell they'll hear it! " The gray cub nodded, flicking her tail tip. Please, please buy it.

"I asked you first. " Mapatano huffed, ears folding against his skull. Look, pathetic, starved blue cub trying to look scary. Then the other one spoke, and he focused his eyes on her. "Parents nearby, then, hmm? " He quirked a brow. "From the look of you two, you hadn't seen your parents in.. .a while. " He walked to the side, making a half-circle around them.

"Besides, if they were nearby, Hisa would spot them. " As if on command, the red kite returned, landing on a rock near her bonded. "Aww, cute. " the raptor commented quietly, mostly to herself, once getting a better look at the two. Hisa was somewhat fond of cubs, though she certainly didn't like them too often, the cute-factor was always there.

Mapatano flicked an ear at his bonded, lashing his tail somewhat irritably. "To answer your question, I am Mapatano, and these are my pride's lands. "

Startled by the large black lion moving around them, Tanz kept his eyes pinned straight at the adult. Hmph. He wasn't going to be sneaky with Tanz around, that was certain! The blue cub followed the lion's movements, not bothering to look around him. Probably not a smart move, but he figured that the lion would be a scarier thing than that bird that flew over them earlier.

After hearing his sister speak, he could tell that they weren't in the best position. If that bird listened... He was torn from his worries when the kite returned.

His eyes shot from the kite to the lion, unsure as how to decide the situation. He kept himself inserted between them and his sister, shifting backwards with a step to Ethiopia.

His mind was darting around about what to say, but he couldn't help but snort at the idea of a pride's lands. They were everyone's weren't they?

"If that land is yours, than that rock is mine!" he exclaimed, quite childishly. He was gesturing at the rock that Hisa was standing on.

Ethiopia watched the lack male just as closely as her brother, but slowly felt herself relax. She wasn't sure if she relaxed because he was losing the scary-effect, or because she was just too tired and hungry to argue much on him being a bad lion.

She sighed, glancing at her brother for a few seconds before back at the lion. "We're lost. " She admitted, though she left out the part on the parents being dead. He didn't have to know that, if he knew it, he wouldn't think they were looking for them. Him thinking they were looking for them was ideal, if she couldn't convince him they were nearby.

He glanced at the gray cub. He suspected she was lying again, a cub in this state would have to be lost for a very, very long time. So either they'd been dumped, their parents had given up on finding them, or... they were orphans.

"Blue-cub, king of a rock. You must be proud. " he rolled his eyes at Tanzania's childish claim, and Hisa withdrew a chuckle. He contemplated turning to leave, he didn't need to spend time here with these cubs... but they were cubs. Mapatano wasn't cruel, he was just an a*****e. They were starving.

He also wouldn't be the one to leave two cubs that didn't know any better out here, only to get his ears bitten off by Fahari for it later.

"You two will follow me. " He stated matter-of-factly. "I will take you to my cave, we will sit out the rain there. Hisa will catch a hare for you to eat, she will meet us at the cave. " Though it could be taken as an act of kindness, the tone in his voice was hardly kindly, though it was clear he had his mind set on handling these two. Hisa, as he mentioned that, took off, to catch said hare. "And you two will stay there for now. " He finalized, not intending to leave much room for arguments. He was more then happy to pick them up and drag them there if he must.

"Shall we go, then? "

Tanz also glanced at his sister, not quite sure what to trust now. They didn't have anything to bluff against the large lion. Plus he was uhh....just a little weak from hunger. Not that he'd ever really admit it seriously. He was king of this rock! Whatever a king was, but it didn't sound too bad. Being lost seemed like a good bluff for now, though. Then they could claim that he'd better be nice to them! Even if Dad and Mom weren't around anymore....

He grew a little silent for a moment, sullen at remembering that. Stupid earth shake. At least he still had his sister with him. It was in that moment that the big black lion started telling them what to do. With his heart a little less than fallen, he nodded. His voice was kinda scary, too. Huddling next to his sister, he shot a glance at the bird. Catch them food? He doubted it.

He'd figure out what these 'pride lands' were, and find a way to make sure that Ethi was well taken care of. He could take care of himself! ...maybe after a meal.

"We'll follow," he said bitterly, betraying his promise of not hinting at his hunger.

Ethiopia frowned slightly, momentarily scooting a bit closer to Tanz as the lion spoke, ears getting lower, until one perked curiously at the mention of a hare. Food? Not, that sounded nice. Though, the kite suddenly taking off startled her, mostly because of the wing beats. The idea of a place to wait off the rain was pretty good too. Still, she was a bit skeptical, and glanced at her brother, so he could make the choice.

Fortunately for her, he did, and she nodded in agreement.

Yes, like they had to agree. He nodded slightly. "Okay, then. " Maatano said, then wrinkled his nose as a drop of water hit it. Damn, rain was going to start. "Come on, " Without another word, the black lion turned, ears folding back into his mane as he felt more droplets of water falling down along his back. At first he trotted a bit, then slowed down, remembering with a bit of annoyance how slow(and starved) these cubs would probably be.

Pausing, he glanced back to make sure they followed, flicking his tail.

Tanz grumbled. He didn't like to follow orders, but he knew better than to say anything now. Besides, he did agree to go with him. The prospect of getting something to eat was too tempting, and as long as Ethi would be safe, he'd go along with it. No one just better mess with him, that was certain.

He hesitated for a long moment before following the adult, feeling quite tiny when he was so close to the large black male. It was a really good thing he was nice to them so far...and Tanz could only hope he would continue to be a little nice to both of them. As gruff as Tanz wanted to be, he wasn't stupid enough to thing he could take down something that big.

Oh, but he would get that big one day!
